Introduction: The purpose of the study was to assess the levels of motor coordination among 11- and 12-year-old Slovak school-aged children and to determine differences in motor coordination levels between the Slovak and Portuguese school-based populations. Methods: To assess motor coordination, we administered the standardized KTK (Körperkoordinations für Kinder) test battery, which allows complex evaluation of coordination abilities. The level of parameters studied was expressed using mathematical and statistical characteristics of median (Mdn), arithmetic average (M) and standard deviation (SD). Statistically significant differences between boys and girls in parameters of motor coordination were determined at p<0.05 using the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: The results showed that eleven-year-old and twelve-year-old Slovak students showed higher levels of motor coordination than their age-matched counterparts. Conclusions: Slovak children achieved higher scores in the KTK subtests that their and Portuguese counterparts. data from this pilot study will be beneficial for future monitoring of motor coordination.

Opis:
The article is an attempt at describing the relation between resilience and needs. It is based on the assumption that these are two sets of variables vital for harmonious development that resonate with each other in a peculiar manner. Resilience and human needs are both contextually and hereditarily conditioned, but the relation between them seems not necessarily a linear one. In adults, resilience might be a significant medium in the satisfaction of needs and even condition them. In children, however, the relation between these variables is different. A child is born with certain potential determining its level of resilience, but deprivation of their key needs, especially during first years, might simply impair their development or disturb its synchronisation. The main issue discussed in this article is the basis of the relation between resilience and the needs that must be satisfied at school. The article contains observations made while carrying out an experimental project that enables the youngest pupils to access and fulfil their multidimensional needs.

Moral education is one of the tasks of catechesis (cf. General Directory for Catechesis, No. 85-86). Te aim of this article is to analyze the importance of illustrations in moral upbringing of children in early school age. Te study is based on textbooks for religious instruction for pupils in grades I, II and III of primary school in Poland. Two series of handbooks have been examined: 1) issued by the publishing house “Wydawnictwo sw. Stanislawa” in Krakow and 2) issued by WAM publishing house in Krakow. Firstly, the importance of illustrations in school textbooks has been recalled, then all the images under consideration were listed and described in their content and adequacy for the moral education of children in early school age. Tis was done for the two mentioned series of catechisms. Te further analysis took place against the background of teaching methodology as well as the curriculum for catechesis. It shows that two series of catechisms vary significantly in terms of place and meaning attributed to the illustrations. In the textbooks published by “Wydawnictwo sw. Stanislawa” the iconic content dominates the text and is the starting point for the implementation of the lesson topic. Te textbooks published by WAM contain smaller illustrations are more of text, however the images are complementary to text or provide new information. Further development of textbooks for religious instruction in early childhood education must be based on the principle of primacy of illustration over the text. Images must be flawless in terms of quality, aesthetics and printing.
Wychowanie moralne jest jednym z zadań katechezy (Dyrektorium ogólne o katechizacji, nr 85-86). Celem artykułu jest analiza znaczenia ilustracji w wychowaniu moralnym dzieci w młodszym wieku szkolnym. Materiałem do badań są podręczniki do nauki religii dla uczniów klas I, II i III szkoły podstawowej wydane przez wydawnictwo św. Stanisława w Krakowie oraz wydawnictwo WAM. Artykuł przypomina znaczenie ilustracji w podręcznikach szkolnych, a następnie zawiera tabelaryczne zestawienie i opis ilustracji z tych katechez, które dotyczą formacji moralnej w dwóch wymienionych seriach katechizmów.

Introduction: Distorted processing of auditory information has a negative impact on the child’s cognitive development. There are only a few studies conducted by Polish researchers determining the normative values of psychoacoustic tests in auditory processing disorders. They are inconsistent due to different methodologies and different research protocols. Objective: The aim of the work was to determine the reference values of selected psychoacoustic tests for the population of Polish children between 7 and 12 years of age. Material and method: The study group consisted of 213 healthy children from 7 to 12 years of age. The condition for including the child in the study was an intellectual norm, proper sound sensitivity, proper development of children’s voice and speech. All children underwent two auditory temporal processing tests. The diagnostic procedure used a standardized Frequency Pattern Test (FPT) and Duration Pattern Test (DPT). The tests were carried out in accordance with the authors’ recommendations, using the original versions available on the CD for 60 dB SL intensity, simultaneously for the right and left ear. Results: The reference values for FPT and DPT tests were determined at various age ranges in children aged 7–12. It has been shown that auditory functions change with age and development of the child. Reference values including age, language, cultural and educational differences were prepared. Conclusions: The development of reference values for individual tests for the Polish children population is a key element in the reliable diagnosis of auditory processing.

Starting in the early years of education, math anxiety is negatively related to mathematic outcomes, therefore there is a need for its adequate measurement in young children. This study presents the psychometric properties of the modified Abbreviated Math Anxiety Scale for Elementary Children (mAMAS-E) for first- to third-grade children based on mAMAS. The validity of mAMAS-E was determined by a series of tests. The analysis confirmed its two-factor structure (Testing and Learning), positive relationships between mAMAS-E and math, general, and test anxiety, and a negative relationship with mathematical achievement. Children with a high level of math self-esteem and math self-confidence (but not Polish language self-esteem and self-confidence) have lower math anxiety in comparison to those with a moderate level. The results also indicate that girls have a higher level of math anxiety than boys. The validity and internal consistency of mAMAS-E are satisfactory; therefore, mAMAS-E may be a recommendable questionnaire for measuring math anxiety in young children.

Scientificmagazines have published hundreds of research papers on stereotype threat. They indicated that despite their intellectual potential some individuals may experience lower performance in school tasks because of the fear of confirminga stereotype about the low abilities of their social group. Most of the research was of an experimental nature, with the use of a single manipulation within the experiment group and comparing its results to those of the control group. Additionally, despite two decades of research, discrepancies in how the term is definedor in the manipulation and measurement methods persist. The article outlines the development of a tool for measuring the intensity of a sense of low abilities stereotype threat among elementary school pupils (grades IV-VI) and the results of a pilot study. The scale was developed based on the theoretical assumptions of Shapiro’s and Neuberg’s multi-threat concept, which appears to put in order the aforementioned discrepancies in understanding the phenomenon’s essence and the ways it is measured.

In this article, on the basis of research based on a qualitative strategy, an attempt was made to reconstruct the beliefs of early education teachers about children's out-of-school experiences and the need / possibility of using them in the practice of early childhood education. Teachers' ways of thinking about the features of children's out-of-school experiences and their value in the learning process at school are outlined. Getting to know the conceptualization of the studied area generated in the minds of teachers is very important due to their relationship with school practice, and more specifically with the design by teachers of didactic and educational situations aimed at integrating children's out-of-school experiences with the knowledge and experiences that are the subject of knowledge at school. The experiences gained in the extremely complex and dynamic contemporary space of a child's life are an important source of their knowledge and the basis of learning. The analysis of the collected statements of early childhood education teachers during individual open interviews with them allowed to identify the constitutive features of out-of-school experiences of children. Although teachers are aware of the continuity, multiplicity, transformation as well as the integrity and processuality of children's out-of-school experiences, in their statements they express caution in using them in educational activities at school due to their "imperfection". First of all, the teachers' way of thinking about the role of out-of-school experiences in the education of a child and, consequently, of school practice, requires changes.

This article is a report on the planned and conducted series of experimental art classes dedicated to children in early school age. The aim of the presented initial research was the verification of a working hypothesis assuming the positive influence of a planned and conducted art lesson class cycle inspired by abstraction, on the creative potential of the participants. In the research project presented and described below, abstraction has been treated as a potential factor stimulating creative thinking, the level of which has been identified by using Drawing Creative Thinking Test by K.K. Urban and H.G. Jellen (TCT-DP) in pre and post-experimental version. The research project was implemented on the basis of a quasi-experimental method, however – which must be emphasized – it has been based on the assumptions of action research and constructed on the basis of the ARTography category. 64 students from the first grade and two second grades of a primary school participated in the experimental class cycle. 47 pairs of drawings created on the basis of TCP-DP sheets have been analyzed and assessed. As a consequence, the distinguished working hypothesis has been initially confirmed – however, the presented research field requires further research, exploration and detailed analyses. The presented research and its initial results constitute a factor initiating the considerations regarding the possibility of applying and implementing non-standard solutions in art lessons, which – as it turns out, end up being solutions that are enriching and desirable, especially from the creative thinking perspective.

The article focuses on the issue of competences as a significant asset which, developed and perfected, determines not only the ability to adapt to various challenges at different stages of life, but also the ability to develop. One particular type of competence, the socio-emotional competences, understood as the body of knowledge, skills and attitudes connected to emotions and interpersonal relations. They allow not only to understand one’s own and others’ behaviour, but also to effectively build interpersonal relations. The shaping of those competences ought to begin in the early stages of child’s life, but it is hampered by many difficulties nevertheless. Particularly important becomes then increased awareness of and development of those competences in parents and teachers, as well as their cooperation.

In this article, we present the results of selected parameters of the running speed of young school children. The aim of this research is to determine the dependence of parameters of speed abilities and physical development of 6 – 7 year old children. The sample consisted of 67 probands (42 boys and 25 girls) with a decimal average age of 6.72 ±0.3 year. We used the test 4 x 10m shuttle run with changes of direction for diagnostics of running speeds. We used the test of lower-limbs frequency in 6s to find out the parameters of movement frequency. We established basic somatic parameters: body height, body weight, BMI. All obtained results were compared with each other and evaluated using correlation analysis. We stated that in somatic parameters high statistical dependence was recorded (p < 0.01), which we consider as a natural developmental indicator. In the group of girls, we recorded a slightly shorter contact time with the pad; however, a significantly longer flight time with single stride cycles. In intrasexual comparison, we recorded statistical significant difference in flight time and in stride frequency (p < 0.05). Boys achieved a higher stride frequency and a shorter flight phase, so they also achieved a higher number of step cycles. In the group of boys, we recorded statistical dependence (p < 0.01) between a running speed with changes of direction and stride frequency.

This publication shows the potential of pre-school age children to understand and use allegory, focusing specifically on the core of the ability to interpret the allegory of proverbs and sayings. A connection between comparison skills and allegory interpretation skills has been statistically proved, confirming that the image-based way of thinking is typical for the ages under research and allowing us to define visualization as a principal stage in the process of getting to the meaning of allegory. The publication also gives statistical arguments which support a connection between the development of the ability for abstract thinking and allegory interpretation skills, i.e. a child with better-developed abstract thinking ability will display a higher capacity for interpreting allegorical meanings.

Research objective: The aim of this article is to demonstrate the role and importance of interdisciplinary cooperation in supporting families with school-age children. The research problem and methods: Two research questions were posed in response to the research objective: What is the role of interdisciplinary cooperation for the support of families with school-age children? What are the benefits of interdisciplinary cooperation for the support of families with school-age children? The answers to those questions were obtained through the qualitative method, namely focus group interviews. The process of argumentation: The research process is epistemic and comprises an analysis of the author’s research. It refers to the characteristics of the functioning of families with school-age children and the difficulties and challenges faced by those families. This presentation of the theoretical and research assumptions of interdisciplinary cooperation among family support institutions addresses the need to support families with school-age children. Research results: The analysis of the research data revealed the significant role and benefits of interdisciplinary measures to support families with school-age children. The analysis and synthesis of the literature on the subject and of the author’s research focused on school education and the family support system. Conclusions, innovations, and recommendations: The research presented herein aligns with the recommended development of social policy, including the development for the benefit of the family, for building readiness and openness in the family support services, and for undertaking interdisciplinary cooperation. Another important result of this analysis is recommendations for the effective development of an interdisciplinary model of action in education and family support.

Opis:
From the earliest years, thanks to the interpretation of the observed events and on the basis of social and cultural messages, children have been independently building naive theories of the world referring to concepts from the visual arts field. This article presents the results of my own research. The subject of it was based on third-graders’ statements from Warsaw primary schools concerning the interpretation and description of the term ‘visual arts’. Focus interviews were used to collect qualitative data. According to the research, students’ attempts to define concepts from the visual arts field are very rich and detailed. Most of the naive theories can be realised by the children who have them and can be made present in the form of their verbal and non-verbal statements. Therefore, the youngest children should be involved in discussions on extended cultural topics, of which they can be fullyfledged participants.

Opis:
The idea of education with the use of educational media is not new, however contemporary teaching and upbringing require innovative forms in order to engage the recipients and raise the effectiveness of the process. A novel tool of influencing a child of a pre- and early school age is a therapeutic story, often being presented in a multimedia form. It is a carrier of social, cultural and language patterns. The child, through the identification with the main character, assumes the models of behaviour as well as adopts an active, creative and rational attitude towards difficult situations which may happen or happened. The mechanism of the identification of the recipient with the protagonist is stimulated by interaction, which is supported by the multimedia form. Tasks and games which are incorporated in the plot give the child the feeling of being in charge and the sense of success. Announcements made by the protagonist (inquiries, praise) strengthen the bond between the child and the fairy-tale character. Psychoeducational tales are used for prevention purposes, while psychotherapeutic and relaxation ones are implemented in therapy for the regeneration of human reserves.

Opis:
The authors present results of their studies dealing with symbols of fear identified in drawings made by Polish and Turkish children. The studies consisted in comparing results with regard to the categories and content of symbols recognized in the drawings presented by younger school-age children of the two nationalities. For the needs of the comparative analysis the following questions were formulated: In what way did the children present their fears in their drawings? How can the similarities in the symbols of fear presented in the drawings by Polish and Turkish children be interpreted? What do the observed differences testify to? Comparison of the symbols of fear allowed recognizing the similarities and differences occurring in the drawings produced by the examined children. It was found that the largest number of drawings present a symbol of fear connected with the category of animals. While interpreting the results, the authors accepted the thesis that the grasped similarities relating to the manner of presenting fear result from the common history of man, recorded in archetypes and symbols. On the other hand, the observed differences are connected with the tradition present in each of the cultures.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to reconstruct everyday educational life during the Covid-19 pandemic experienced and subjectively expressed by early childhood education students. Focusing on the child’s perspective is in line with modern studies of childhood, in which it is preferred to know and understand the situation of children with their active participation and based on their narratives (Jarosz 2018). The research material was collected in the course of studies located in the constructivist paradigm assuming that social realities are constantly reconstructed, and the only way to recognize them is to appeal to subjective opinions, experiences and beliefs. Focus group interviews conducted in the third grades of selected schools in Poland were used to articulate students’ own opinions and to reach various emotional states behind verbalized beliefs.
