Opis:
Scene recognition is a paramount task for autonomous systems that navigate in open scenarios. In order to achie ve high scene recognition performance it is necesary to use correct information. Therefore, data fusion is beco ming a paramount point in the design of scene recognition systems. This paper presents a scenery recognition system using a neural network hierarchical approach. The system is based on information fusion in indoor scenarios. The system extracts relevant information with respect to color and landmarks. Color information is related mainly to localization of doors. Landmarks are related to corner de tection. The corner detection method proposed in the pa per based on corner detection windows has 99% detection of real corners and 13.43% of false positives. The hierar chical neural systems consist on two levels. The first level is built with one neural network and the second level with two. The hierarchical neural system, based on feed for ward architectures, presents 90% of correct recognition in the first level in training, and 95% in validation. The first ANN in the second level shows 90.90% of correct recogni tion during training, and 87.5% in validation. The second ANN has a performance of 93.75% and 91.66% during training and validation, respectively. The total perfor mance of the systems was 86.6% during training, and 90% in validation.

Composé de quatre poèmes, de longueur variable, Symphonie musicale : pour une poévie de la Vie est un recueil de Jean-Baptiste Fondjo publié en 2022 aux éditions L’Harmattan de Paris. Cette œuvre poétique, essentiellement lyrique, se définit comme un hymne à la vie. Cette vie, si chère au poète, est célébrée à partir de la scène générique de la poévie, comme en témoigne le titre de l’œuvre. Mot-valise forgé à partir du morphème « poé », une troncation de la lexie « poésie » et du terme « vie », la poévie est un art poétique qui vise à promouvoir la vie, en mobilisant divers procédés d’écriture dont les plus représentatifs sont les déictiques, les marques suprasegmentales et la métaphore. Cette stratégie témoigne de la subjectivité du poète. Ces unités énonciatives donnent prise à l’analyse stylistique. Cette dernière se définit, en effet, comme une théorie et une méthode d’analyse structurale qui vise au décryptage et à l’interprétation des ressources langagières mises en œuvre par un écrivain, dans son texte. L’intérêt de cette étude est de montrer comment les outils de la linguistique de l’énonciation se prêtent à une interprétation stylistique de la poésie de Jean-Baptiste Fondjo.
Composed of four poems of varying length, Symphonie musicale: pour une poévie de la Vie is a collection by Jean-Baptiste Fondjo, published in 2022 by L’Harmattan editions in Paris. This poetic work, essentially lyrical, is defined as a hymn to life. This life, so dear to the poet, is celebrated from the generic scene of poévie, as evidenced by the title of the work. A portmanteau word forged from the morpheme “poé”, a truncation of the lexeme “poésie” and the term “vie”, poévie is a poetic art which aims to promote life, by mobilizing various writing processes, the most representative being deictics, suprasegmental marks and the metaphor. This strategy testifies to the subjectivity of the poet. These enunciative units give rise to stylistic analysis. The latter is defined, in fact, as a theory and a method of structural analysis which aims to decipher and interpret the linguistic resources implemented by a writer in his text. The interest of this study is to show how the tools of the linguistics of enunciation lend themselves to a profitable stylistic interpretation in the poetry of Jean-Baptiste Fondjo.

The aim of the studies was to design, implement and test the algorithm for vectorization of the scene, which is analyzed by an autonomous robot. The vectorization is the process of extraction of the contours of the objects located in the image taken by a camera. The result is stored in a computer's (robot's) memory as a sequence of points in euclidean space marking the examined objects' corners. During the tests, various images were used. Each one was previously pre-processed in a different way in order to reveal and highlight the contours of the objects. The vectorization process is divided into three steps which are described in detail in this article.

We describe an experimental study, based on several million video scenes, of seven keypoint detection algorithms: BRISK, FAST, GFTT, HARRIS, MSER, ORB and STAR. It was observed that the probability distributions of selected keypoints are drastically different between indoor and outdoor environments for all algorithms analyzed. This paper presents a simple method for distinguishing between indoor and outdoor environments in a video sequence. The proposed method is based on the central location of keypoints in video frames. This has lead to a universally effective indoor/outdoor environment recognition method, and may prove to be a crucial step in the design of robotic control algorithms based on computer vision, especially for autonomous mobile robots.

Whenever the recording engineer uses stereo microphone techniques, he/she has to consider a recording angle resulting from the positioning of microphones relative to sound sources, besides other acoustic factors. The recording angle, the width of a captured acoustic scene and the properties of a particular microphone technique are closely related. We propose a decision supporting method, based on the mapping of the actual position of a sound source to its position in the reproduced acoustic scene. This research resulted in a set of localisation curves characterising four most popular stereo microphone techniques. The curves were obtained by two methods: calculation, based on appropriate engineering formulae, and experiment consisting in the recording of sources and estimation of the perceived position in listening tests. The analysis of curves brings several conclusions important in the recording practice.

The study focuses on the schematization of natural categories of the meaning in the preposition over, and contrasting it with the schematization of relevant spatial relations in Serbian and Ukrainian. Contrasting similar verbalizations of spatial relations in Ukrainian and Serbian has enabled us to conclude that distinct senses of over correlate with image-schemas characteristic for various Ukrainian prepositions – mainly над and через, but also partially за and на, and Serbian prepositions preko and nad. We deduce that in Ukrainian and Serbian the presented set of scenes are not conceptualized as a chain of connected variations derived from the same proto-scene and possessing one or two changes in the scene that provoke a distinct sense, but rather as different scenes that represent various categories of spatial relations, and they are not connected via derivation.

The notions of inter- and transdisciplinarity represent categories which the humanities frequently resort to in the discourse, but which remain difficult to define.  The attempts to do so are most often associated with subscribing to one of the possible models of interpreting relationships between individual disciplines of science. Mieke Bal’s concept of transdisciplinarity, which this paper discusses, envisages a framework where the privileged form of formulating scientific concepts would be in research practice that is rooted not only in the methodologies of individual sciences but most of all in the everyday practices and experiences.

The article discusses the question of traditional images in Greek epic poetry, which are based on metonymy, coexisting with themes and type-scenes and stabilising the epic song. Firstly, I present a sketch of oral theory, originally presented by M. Parry and A. Lord. Secondly, I deal with the question of the type-scenes in Homeric epics and Russian oral epic songs—the middle element of A. Lord’s oral song structure. After that, I move on to cognitive theory and its application to Homeric epics, especially in the matter of cognitive scripts as a basis for the construction of type-scenes. Furthermore, I connect cognitive theory with M. Nagler’s Gestalt, A. N. Sabynin’s DRK-structures and J.M. Foley’s traditional referentiality, which are based on a metonymy. On that basis, I present some examples of traditional images of “house” in the Odyssey, which consist of recurrent elements, such as “megaron,” “bedroom,” “wife,” “children,” etc. The singer evokes the traditional image of the “house” using metonymy. The analysis of examples reveals that these images, regardless of the exact words used by the singer, are stable—just as the type-scenes built on M. Clark’s basic scaffolding.

Plato’s Protagoras belongs to the most read and analyzed works of the philosopher. Interest is aroused not only by the content of the work, but also by its form: diligent composition, elaborate descriptions of characters and dramatic nature of separate scenes, although the work belongs to the group of narrative dialogues. The aim of this article is to analyze the prologue of Protagoras, which consists of five scenes (309a–316a), to answer the question what function they have and how important role they play in this dialogue.

Despite numerous publications on the soundscape of Wroclaw and the history of major music festivals like Jazz nad Odrą, not enough attention has been devoted to the local, independent activity of popular music artists. This article is a contribution to contemporary research into the popular music scene in Wroclaw. The author has carried out his own research in the summer and autumn of 2019, focusing on rock music and jazz. This is because, according to surveys, these types of music are most often indicated as specific to Wroclaw. The author’s goal is to indicate the reasons for the popularity of specific popular types of music and to determine the features specific to the popular music scene in Wroclaw. Into account is taken the history of the city and the repertoire of contemporary concerts as well as the reception of the events and the soundscape of places and the entire city. The author presents the methodology (sound walks, participant observation, surveys, interviews) using literature on the subject of popular music studies, soundscape studies and performance studies.

This study shows that it is simplistic to argue that the narrative dynamics in contemporary Francophone African novel is monotonous. It then consists in demonstrating that it is rather indicative of a striking realism that it sometimes offers to see horrific scenes of life exhibited such that the reader immediately succumb to the temptation to share the worldview of author in review through the characters involved. Based on the operationalization of the explicit-implicit duality as structured in Pierre Barberis’s sociocriticism framework, the study postulates, in two parts, that hypotyposis is a fertile and multiple variable figure which is spread at the same time like the modalisation of an event, a relevant semiological sign, a figure of the transcendence convened by the novelist in order to collect the attention of the reader by touching his psyche and causing in him a certain number of emotions such as the feeling of horror.
La présente étude montre qu’il est réducteur de soutenir que la dynamique de narration dans le roman africain francophone contemporain est monocorde. Il s’agit alors de la monstration qu’elle est plutôt révélatrice d’un réalisme si saisissant qu’il offre parfois à voir des scènes de vie horribles exhibées telles que le lecteur succombe immédiatement à la tentation de partager la vision du monde de l’auteur en examen par le biais des personnages mis en jeu. Fondée sur l’opérationnalisation du diptyque explicite-implicite structuré à travers la sociocritique de Pierre Barbéris, l’étude postule, en deux parties, que l’hypotypose est une figure féconde à variable multiple qui se déploie à la fois comme la modalisation d’un événement, un signe sémiologique pertinent, une figure de la transcendance convoquée par le romancier en vue de capter l’attention du lecteur et de toucher sa psyché en suscitant en lui un certain nombre d’émotions, par exemple le sentiment de l’horrible.

The article discusses the construction of space and the position of the viewer in the video installation Madame B. Explorations in Emotional Capitalism, presented at the turn of 2013 at the Museum of Art in Łódź. Directed and designed by Mieke Bal and Michelle Williams Gamaker, the installation was produced in parallel with a full feature film of the same title. Both the installation and the film constitute an intersemiotic translation of a literary work – Gustave Flaubert’sMadame Bovary. Part of the inspiration for this experiment was the proto-cinematic quality of Flaubert’s style (narrative simultaneity resembling parallel editing, the suppression of drama, dissolution of the time-flow). The museum installation, with its use of dark exhibition space and multiscreen projection, provided an innovative interpretation of the novel by bringing to the fore its acute audio-visuality: the non-verbal level of meaning found in the presentation of material surroundings, fashion, gesture, facial expressions, sound, tone, and tempo of action. In this respect, the exhibition had an advantage over the continuous version of the feature film, which tends to focus the viewer’s attention more directly on the plot. In the case of the museum installation, the narrative continuity was disregarded in favor of the affective resonance of selected scenes from Emma’s life. Walking through a series of episodes split across nineteen screens, the viewer had to choose his or her own way through a complex narrative (the whole comprised 450 min. of filmic material), so in a sense it was the viewer who “performed the piece”. The narrative of Madame B. partly diverged from Flaubert’s story to bring it closer to our times. The anachronistic intermingling of the 19th century and contemporary realities set it away from the conventions of costume movies and suggested the actuality of Emma’s story – its relevance for contemporary questions of “emotional capitalism”. These anachronisms and the spatialization of the narrative occasioned a specific position for the viewer, who, despite the immersive effect of the images, remained conscious of his or her participatory presence here and now. Thus, while attending to the scenes of Emma’s life, the viewer might also reflect on the emotional effects they raised in him/herself. This analytic outlook did not necessarily inhibit the viewer’s sympathetic engagement with the protagonists’ emotions and experiences, but gave it a more informed character. The spatial arrangement of images, as well as the situations performed in several episodes, also invited reflections on the social function of looking and being seen. In this sense, the installation may be counted as a part of Mieke Bal’s practice of visual culture analysis.

Underground music scene in SilesiaUpper Silesia is usually associated with the historical land situated in southern Poland with highly developed industry, mainly mines and steelworks. The inhabitants of Upper Silesia are perceived as conservatist. In spite of that, it is Upper Silesia, precisely Gliwice, where the most vigorous underground music scene in communist Poland was created at the beginning of the 1980s. The Gliwice Alternative Scene was focused around student clubs in Gliwice with „Gwarek” as the representative one. In this article we will show the artistic legacy of chosen musical bands from GAS such as Smierc Kliniczna, R.A.P., Absurd, Processs, Brzytwa Ojca. In particular we will analyze the lyrics and quote interviews with the musicians from the before mentioned bands. We will therefore demonstrate that the Gliwice Alternative Scene was not only an alternative to the blues scene, which was very popular in Upper Silesia, but also through the fusion of punk, reggae and new wave as well as unconventional, radical lyrics, it stood out among other bands which created the Polish underground musical scene of the 1980s. In terms of its social impact, it was a “niche within a niche”. Finally, it is worth noting that the Gliwice Alternative Scene was beyond censorship and the dominant communist discourse. Underground po ŚląskuGliwicka Alternatywna Scena (GAS) była jednym z najprężniej rozwijających się środowisk alternatywnego rocka w Polsce lat 80. Organizowała się od początku tamtej dekady w gliwickich klubach studenckich, z których najbardziej emblematycznym miejscem okazał się „Gwarek”. Najważniejszymi zespołami GAS były: Śmierć Kliniczna, R.A.P., Absurd, Processs, Brzytwa Ojca. W tekście skupiamy się w szczególności na analizie tekstów piosenek wymienionych zespołów oraz treści wywiadów narracyjnych, prasowych, radiowych przeprowadzonych z muzykami współtworzącymi GAS. Wynika z nich, że opisywane przez nas zjawisko dobrze oddawało ducha całej polskiej alternatywy ostatniej dekady PRL, jak i pozostawało fenomenem specyficznym w skali regionalnej.

Bardzo ważna jest rola oględzin miejsca. Ich przebieg i wyniki dokumentowane są w protokole oględzin, w miarę potrzeby sporządzana jest dokumentacja techniczna. To właśnie ona stanowi dla organu procesowego nieodzowny materiał poglądowy. Stale rozrasta się katalog rozwiązań technicznych oraz urządzeń służących utrwalaniu czynności oględzin. Dowiedziono już, że wykorzystanie techniki skanowania 3D do utrwalania wyglądu miejsca zdarzenia niesie liczne korzyści.
The contribution of forensics to the effective fight against crime must be significant. Since its inception, it has been inspired by scientific achievements, which, in turn, entailed the systematic development of forensic research, the effects of which improve the activities on the crime scene, which is the richest source of information about the crime and the offender. The role of the scene examination is very important. Its course and results are documented in a protocol of examination, technical documentation is prepared if necessary. It is this type of documentation that constitutes an indispensable reference material for the investigative authority. The catalogue of technical solutions and devices for the recording of scene examination activities continues to expand. It has already been proven that the use of 3D scanning technology to capture the appearance of the scene brings numerous benefits.

The influence of hidden additional information concerning the circumstances of input data acquisition on the quality of decisions based on the data is considered. An analogue to the intuition influencing natural decision making is indicated. The problem of contextual information in decision making based on Bayes rule, on reference data sets in various applications as well as of scene analysis by numerous examples is illustrated.
