Opis:
In the article, the author presents opinions of literature theorists, experts on rhetoric and culture, literature historians with regard to irony. She shows ways of defining irony, forms of ironic discourse, focuses on the overtness degree of ironic discourse among other things. In this background she depicts problematic, in her opinion, positions to self-mockery and sarcasm. The author cast a doubt on thesis that self-mockery is irony with a different object of ironic description and that sarcasm is strong irony. In the last part of the text the author draws attention to the fact that if treat irony, self-mockery and sarcasm as communicative occurrences then the differences among them can be seen in their sender-recipient context and functionality. Finally, she proves that irony is the tool of attack, self-mockery – defence, sarcasm indicates surrender. The author finds particularly interesting the fact that, even though these three forms of transmission are exceptionally complex tools of social communication, they are willingly and fortunately used by users of public discourse. According to that, she proves the thesis of anthropocentric genesis of irony. This form of presentation of the position is deep in us and, by use of various types of signs, we let it come out for a while.

Opis:
This article examines the representational modes of the relationships in Andrea Camilleri’s Vigata community and, in particular, those presented in Un filo di fumo. Our initial consideration is that only by combining a semantic perspective with a pragmatic one, the measurement of Sicilianisms and the evaluation of the quality of the Sicilian-Italian language can provide useful information. We need to analyse the relationship that exists between the extra-linguistic hints provided by the narrator and by the characters and the dialogues interspersed in the novel to realise that one needs to be wary of the literal sense of the text in order to fully grasp the significance of many statements. In other words, speakers make constant use of oblique strategies of communication, amongst which, this article argues, irony and sarcasm (in the current interpretation offered by the philosophy of language) emerge as prevailing. As irony is seldom presented as dislocated from an environmental, relational, and historical context, both the narrator and the characters are charged with the duty of providing indispensable information. The Sicilian-Vigatese world arising from some of Camilleri’s novels takes on a semiotic specificity, then, that can be deciphered only with adequate linguistic and cultural competence.

multimodal sarcasm detection
Opis:
This work aims to provide a novel multimodal sarcasm detection model that includes four stages: pre-processing, feature extraction, feature level fusion, and classification. The pre-processing uses multimodal data that includes text, video, and audio. Here, text is pre-processed using tokenization and stemming, video is pre-processed during the face detection phase, and audio is pre-processed using the filtering technique. During the feature extraction stage, such text features as TF-IDF, improved bag of visual words, n-gram, and emojis as well on the video features using improved SLBT, and constraint local model (CLM) are extraction. Similarly the audio features like MFCC, chroma, spectral features, and jitter are extracted. Then, the extracted features are transferred to the feature level fusion stage, wherein an improved multilevel canonical correlation analysis (CCA) fusion technique is performed. The classification is performer using a hybrid classifier (HC), e.g. bidirectional gated recurrent unit (Bi-GRU) and LSTM. The outcomes of Bi-GRU and LSTM are averaged to obtain an effective output. To make the detection results more accurate, the weight of LSTM will be optimally tuned by the proposed opposition learning-based aquila optimization (OLAO) model. The MUStARD dataset is a multimodal video corpus used for automated sarcasm Discovery studies. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed approach is proved based on various metrics.

Opis:
In this essay I intend to show how Maupassant turned his short stories into a denouncement area of the ‘inherited ideas’, which mean commonly accepted ideas, such as those included by Flaubert in his Dictionary of inherited ideas. In this part of Maupassant’s literary work, the syntagm ‘inherited ideas’ acquires several different meanings, such as: some commonplace topics of the French bourgeoisie, the hasty taking up of fashionable words, attitudes, or cultural clichés, which one may come across in everyday life, the tendency of accepting as unchallenged some social, moral or religious prejudices, or foolish beliefs and unjust statements, authoritatively uttered by ordinary people. I’ll also emphasize the manner Maupassant treated the ‘inherited ideas’ by his ironical hints and the narrator’s affective implication, in spite of his seeming impassibility.
