Opis:
Currently, triaxial (3D) accelerometers are installed in every smartphone, so paper proposes to use such an accelerometer in vehicle motion measurement. The work describes a conception of the utilization of 3D accelerometer in smartphone to the determination of the car speed and the estimation of a power on the vehicle wheels. The analysis of the results was conducted based on road measurements. The basic issues which were discussed: calibration of acceleration sensor and processing of acceleration signals with variable sampling time resulting from the properties of the smartphone operating system. The smartphone (iPhone 4s) uses the accelerometer LIS331DLH (in Microelectromechanical systems technology MEMS) 12-bit analog-to-digital converter for ±2g range. Moreover, the iOS system (ver. 9.3.5) was chosen because of the more stable sampling time than in the Android system. The article presents the following signal processing: 3D acceleration → longitudinal vehicle acceleration → vehicle speed →resultant power → power transmitted from the propulsion system.

Opis:
Sample-time errors can greatly degrade the dynamic range of a time-interleaved sampling system. In this paper, a novel correction technique employing a cubic spline interpolation is proposed for inter-channel sample-time error compensation. The cubic spline interpolation compensation filter is developed in the form of a finite-impulse response (FIR) filter structure. The correction method of the interpolation compensation filter coefficients is deduced. A 4GS/s two-channel, time-interleaved ADC prototype system has been implemented to evaluate the performance of the technique. The experimental results showed that the correction technique is effective to attenuate the spurious spurs and improve the dynamic performance of the system.

This paper is devoted to some problems that appear in derivations of the discrete time Fourier transform from a formula for its continuous time counterpart for transformation from the time into the frequency domain as well as to those regarding transformation in the inverse direction. In particular, the latter ones remained so far an unresolved problem. It is solved for the first time here. Many detailed explanations accompanying the solution found are presented. Finally, it is also worth noting that our derivations do not exploit any of such sophisticated mathematical tools as the so-called Dirac delta and Dirac comb.

Opis:
In this paper, we show that signal sampling operation can be considered as a kind of all-pass filtering in the time domain, when the Nyquist frequency is larger or equal to the maximal frequency in the spectrum of a signal sampled. We demonstrate that this seemingly obvious observation has wide-ranging implications. They are discussed here in detail. Furthermore, we discuss also signal shaping effects that occur in the case of signal under-sampling. That is, when the Nyquist frequency is smaller than the maximal frequency in the spectrum of a signal sampled. Further, we explain the mechanism of a specific signal distortion that arises under these circumstances. We call it the signal shaping, not the signal aliasing, because of many reasons discussed throughout this paper. Mainly however because of the fact that the operation behind it, called also the signal shaping here, is not a filtering in a usual sense. And, it is shown that this kind of shaping depends upon the sampling phase. Furthermore, formulated in other words, this operation can be viewed as a one which shapes the signal and performs the low-pass filtering of it at the same time. Also, an interesting relation connecting the Fourier transform of a signal filtered with the use of an ideal low-pass filter having the cut frequency lying in the region of under-sampling with the Fourier transforms of its two under-sampled versions is derived. This relation is presented in the time domain, too.

An attribute np control chart has been designed using resampling systems for monitoring non- -conforming items under exponentiated half-logistic distribution. We suppose that lifetime follows exponentiated half-logistic distribution. For the proposed control charts, the optimal parameters and control limits have been obtained. The operational formulas for in-control and out of control average run lengths (ARLs) have been derived. Control constants are established by considering the target in-control ARL at a normal process. The extensive ARL tables are reported for various parameters and shifted values of process parameters. The performance of the proposed control chart is evaluated with several existing charts with regard to ARLs, which empower the presented chart and prove far better for timely detection of assignable causes. A wide range of tables, a real-life example, and simulation study for RGS and MDS are given for a better understanding of the problem.

A new model of ideal signal sampling operation is developed in this paper. This model does not use the Dirac comb in an analytical description of sampled signals in the continuous time domain. Instead, it utilizes functions of a continuous time variable, which are introduced in this paper: a basic Kronecker time function and a Kronecker comb (that exploits the first of them). But, a basic principle behind this model remains the same; that is it also a multiplier which multiplies a signal of a continuous time by a comb. Using a concept of a signal object (or utilizing equivalent arguments) presented elsewhere, it has been possible to find a correct expression describing the spectrum of a sampled signal so modelled. Moreover, the analysis of this expression showed that aliases and folding effects cannot occur in the sampled signal spectrum, provided that the signal sampling is performed ideally.

The aim of this paper is to examine the empirical usefulness of two new MSF - Scalar BEKK(1,1) models of n-variate volatility. These models formally belong to the MSV class, but in fact are some hybrids of the simplest MGARCH and MSV specifications. Such hybrid structures have been proposed as feasible (yet non-trivial) tools for analyzing highly dimensional financial data (large n). This research shows Bayesian model comparison for two data sets with n = 2, since in bivariate cases we can obtain Bayes factors against many (even unparsimonious) MGARCH and MSV specifications. Also, for bivariate data, approximate posterior results (based on preliminary estimates of nuisance matrix parameters) are compared to the exact ones in both MSF-SBEKK models. Finally, approximate results are obtained for a large set of returns on equities (n = 34).

Opis:
Hybrid MSV-MGARCH models, in particular the MSF-SBEKK specification, proved useful in multivariate modelling of returns on financial and commodity markets. The initial MSF-MGARCH structure, called LNMSF-MGARCH here, is obtained by multiplying the MGARCH conditional covariance matrix Ht by a scalar random variable gt such that {ln gt, t ∈ Z} is a Gaussian AR(1) latent process with auto-regression parameter ϕ. Here we also consider an IG-MSF-MGARCH specification, which is a hybrid generalisation of conditionally Student t MGARCH models, since the latent process {gt} is no longer marginally log-normal (LN), but for ϕ = 0 it leads to an inverted gamma (IG) distribution for gt and to the t-MGARCH case. If ϕ 6= 0, the latent variables gt are dependent, so (in comparison to the t-MGARCH specification) we get an additional source of dependence and one more parameter. Due to the existence of latent processes, the Bayesian approach, equipped with MCMC simulation techniques, is a natural and feasible statistical tool to deal with MSF-MGARCH models. In this paper we show how the distributional assumptions for the latent process together with the specification of the prior density for its parameters affect posterior results, in particular the ones related to adequacy of the t-MGARCH model. Our empirical findings demonstrate sensitivity of inference on the latent process and its parameters, but, fortunately, neither on volatility of the returns nor on their conditional correlation. The new IG-MSF-MGARCH specification is based on a more volatile latent process than the older LN-MSF-MGARCH structure, so the new one may lead to lower values of ϕ – even so low that they can justify the popular t-MGARCH model.

The paper presents a new, revisited and unified approach to a linear continuous-time dynamic single-input single-output system identification using input and output signal samples acquired with a deterministic constant or random sampling interval. The approach is based on a specially designed identification experiment with excitation of the form of a continuous-time multisine random excitation and digital processing of the corresponding signal samples obtained without analogue antialiasing filtration in the case of disturbances satisfying or not satisfying the Shannon's sampling theorem. Properties of the proposed approach are discussed taking into account nonlinearity of the excitation generation and data acquisition systems with a focus on model identification in the case of input and output signal levels comparable with data acquisition system accuracy. Methods reducing influence of the disturbances (including aliasing) as well as nonlinearities of the excitation generation and data acquisition systems on identification results are proposed, too.

In this paper, the problem of aliasing and folding effects in spectrum of sampled signals in view of Information Theory is discussed. To this end, the information content of deterministic continuous time signals, which are continuous functions, is formulated first. Then, this notion is extended to the sampled versions of these signals. In connection with it, new signal objects that are partly functions but partly not are introduced. It is shown that they allow to interpret correctly what the Whittaker–Shannon reconstruction formula in fact does. With help of this tool, the spectrum of the sampled signal is correctly calculated. The result achieved demonstrates that no aliasing and folding effects occur in the latter. Finally, it is shown that a Banach–Tarski-like paradox can be observed on the occasion of signal sampling.

The paper describes the design and test results of a time-to-digital converter with 9 ps resolution and measurement uncertainty below 31 ps. The converter has been implemented in a programmable device Cyclone manufactured by Altera. The time-to-digital conversion is based on sampling of a periodic square signal. Information about the measured time interval is contained in the width of a pulse that circulates in a closed delay loop and is sampled with the use of a high frequency clock. This method is innovative in the kind of application and it has not been implemented in an integrated circuit so far. In order to achieve both high resolution and high measurement uncertainty the four-phase sampling clock has been used. Such solution allows for fourfold reduction in a number of cycles in the loop and consequently to diminish the measurement error significantly. The four-phase clock has been generated with an embedded PLL functional block. An issue of fundamental importance for the successful implementation of the converter was the use of two short pulses as a representation of the begin and the end of a measured time interval instead of a single long-width pulse. In this way an unpredictable shrinking or stretching of a measured time interval by elements of the delay loop that have different propagation times for rising and falling edges has been avoided. The measurement as well as calculation and processing of obtained results are controlled with the use of dedicated user interface worked out in C++.

Opis:
The line intersect method is recommended for coarse woody debris (CWD) inventories. This is due to the fact that for the CWD volume estimation with the assumed standard error (SE), the total time of measurements using line sampling units is shorter than when using the fixed−area sample units. The aim of the research was to determine: (1) the number and size of sample units whose use will allow achieving the assumed SE of the CWD volume estimation, and (2) dependence of this number and size of sample units on the quantity of CWD. The research material was collected from 131 sample units (sampling lines) with a length of 50.48 m each. They were systematically located in the stands (128 ha) on Bukowa Góra in the Roztocze National Park (south−east Poland). Data concerning the intersection points of the sampling line (in relation to its beginning) with the axis of a downed log, made it possible to simulate the measurement using shorter sampling lines (4, 8, …, 44 m) than the original ones. The simulation was performed using the original data (when the average CWD volume was 73 m3/ha), which also represented an inventory unit in which the CWD volume accounted for 10, 40 and 70% of the original value. These data were obtained by a random elimination of the appropriate portion of trees. The relationship between the single−tree−plot coefficient of variation (calculated for such a size of a sample unit which on average contains only one log) and the length of the sampling line was determined (figs. 2 and 3). On this basis the number of sample units necessary to obtain the assumed SE value of the target variable was determined (tab. 1). Using the data on labour consumption of individual measurement operations, the total working time was calculated for such a number of sample units that would guarantee obtaining the assumed SE of the CWD volume estimation (tab. 2). The total time of measurements was longer in an inventory unit with scarcer CWD resources (figs. 5 and 6). The optimal (due to the time of measurements needed to achieve the assumed SE of the CWD volume estimation) line length occurred within the range of 4−150 m. The use of sample units with a length of 60−150 m each was recommended in forests with the average CWD volume over 30 m3/ha, and with a length of 150−200 m in forest with sparser CWD resources.
