This article focuses on comparative characteristics of associative images of female and male saints. The study was aimed to reconstruct and compare associative representations. The respondents were 80 students of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The methods used in the study included a “but-test” (X is A, but…) and a free association test. The data collected (received from respondents) for a saint-woman demonstrate that she is frequently attributed with features such as e.g., humble, merciful, virtuous/chaste, while a saint-man is typically presented as: strong, principal, adamant. The image of a female and male saint may strongly depend on the general image of a woman and man (respectively). According to the participants of the present study, both female and male saints have common attributes. Features of a saint include: goodness, altruism, helpfulness, devotion to God and faith, making miracles, courage, high-mindedness, serenity and humility.

Both of the above mentioned 13th century monastery foundations in Podhale -the Cistercian Szczyrzyc as well as the Franciscan Stary Sącz - played important religious, cultural and social role in the development of this region. Their founders were important people, both the voivode of Cracow Teodor Gryfita and the Cracow duchess Kinga of the Arpad family (later a saint) inscribed themselves for the work of monastery foundations in Podhale in the colonization and economic process but above all the religious and cultural life in the then Piast state.

The article presents the Western Women Monasticism in Gaul spread by Saint Caesarius of Arles and his followers. In 506 Saint Caesarius of Arles undertook the building of the Women Monastery of Saint John, which was finalized in 512. The first Abbess of the monastery was Saint Caesarius’ sister, Saint Caesaria. Saint Caesarius wrote the Rule for the monastery in 534. After Saint Caesaria, another Caesaria became Abbess and the monastery counted up to 200 nuns in those years. To Abbess Caesaria, Saint Liliola and Rusticula succeeded. The influence of Saint Caesarius on Monasticism in Gaul was relevant, thought the Rule had a greater impact in Provence. The history of the monastery of Saint Andrew at Villeneuve, near Avinione, is not widely attested: one chronicle reports that, in 586, a woman named Caesaria died in the monastery. Even fewer historical sources concern other women monasteries in Gaul. According to tradition, also the monastery of Saint Peter du Puy in Orange was founded by Saint Caesarius. In the VI century the Rules of Saint Aurelianus of Arles, Regula ad monachos and Regula ad virgines were written as well. Saint Aurelianus of Arles founded two monasteries in Arles: a women monastery (Saint Mary’s) and a men monastery (Saints Peter and Paul’s).
Artykuł omawia łaciński monastycym żeński w Galii krzewiony przez św. Cezarego z Arles i jego kontynuatorów. W 506 r. Cezary rozpoczął budowę klasztoru żeńskiego św. Jana, która została ukończona w 512 r. Pierwszą jego ksienią została siostra św. Cezarego – św. Cezaria. Do klasztoru wstąpiło wiele dziewic i wdów. Cezary napisał dla nich regułę w 534 r. Następczynią św. Cezarii została inna Cezaria, zwana Młodszą. Mniszek w klasztorze było wówczas aż dwieście. Następną ksienią została św. Liliola, a później św. Rustykuła. Przed śmiercią Cezary chciał uczestniczyć w liturgii mniszek w klasztorze św. Jana i skierował do wspólnoty zachętę, by pozostała wierna regule. Wpływ Cezarego na monastycyzm galijski był wielki, choć „Reguła” odegrała większą rolę jedynie w Prowansji. Nie znamy dokładnie dziejów klasztoru św. Andrzeja z Villeneuve koło Awinionu. Jedna z kronik mówi, iż w 586 r. zmarła w nim niejaka św. Cezaria. Jeśli chodzi o inne klasztory żeńskie w Galii, to mamy na ich temat jeszcze bardziej skąpe wiadomości. Zachował się list Cezarego wysłany do pewnej ksieni, z którego można wnosić, iż była ona jego duchową córką i kierowała założoną przez niego wspólnotą mniszek. Według tradycji także klasztor św. Piotra du Puy w Orange został założony przez św. Cezarego na górze Eutropiusza. W VI w. powstały także „Reguły” św. Aureliana: Regula ad monachos i Regula ad virgines. Założył on w Arles dwa klasztory: żeński św. Marii i męski świętych Piotra i Pawła.

The subject of this article is the procedure for selecting a saint of the Roman Catholic Church patron saint for the city, municipality or wider territory. The establishment of a patron saint is within the competence of the confessional authority, in particular, the bishop and the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sac-raments. The procedure consists of three stages: the election, acknowledgement and affirmation of the patron saint. The church’s current regulations regarding the election of patron saints are contained in two documents of the Holy See. The municipal council, the poviat council and the assembly of the province pass a res-olution on the patron at the stage of his election by the society and the clergy. The above-mentioned authorities do not take part in the next two stages. Entities of territorial self-government only have a supporting vote. They cannot independently establish a patron saint, regardless of the decisions of the ecclesiastical authorities. The position of administrative courts that the resolutions of the constitutive au-thorities of entities of territorial self-government belong to the category of public administration matters is unjustified. The decree of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments is addressed to a given diocese and not to local self-government authorities. The patron saint is established for a city, mu-nicipality, poviat, or for an area that does not have administrative borders. Entities of territorial self-government must respect the autonomy of the church authorities, and public authorities should be impartial in religious matters. Therefore, entities of territorial self-government do not have the competence to establish a patron saint for the promotion of a municipality, district or self-government of the voivodship. However, they can refer to saint persons at the symbolic level, for example, in the coat of arms or the names of streets and squares. This also applies to schools and hospitals run by local self-government authorities.

Carlyle’s relationship to the German and English Romantics has received much critical scrutiny. However, despite Carlyle close friendship with Southey, no study of the two, to my knowledge, has been undertaken. Carlyle writes meaningfully of their meetings, and his Reminiscences sketches their many encounters. Even before their first meeting, Carlyle valued Southey’s sense of the Romantic. The relationship also caused Carlyle to reflect on the struggle of great men and on the particular angst writers experience. Largely unrecognized, too, is Southey’s role in popularizing the Saint Simonians, which in turn would stage Carlyle’s commentary on them, identifying key points of correspondence to his own beliefs. Southey also caused Carlyle to understand and then to empathize with the disposition of an exhausted sage, and from Southey he derived his critique of feudal industrialism, inept governmental leadership, bankrupt culture, economic disparity, dispossessed workers, and the despised poor. Southey’s views on industrialism, market economy, and labor would receive wholesale adoption by Carlyle. Southey’s reward in all of this is how approvingly he is remembered by Carlyle, when so many of his contemporaries were disparaged. Despite a certain shyness and nervous disposition, which Carlyle considered a feminine trait, “blue blushes and red,” Southey emerges as affectionate, godly, empathetic, loyal, industrious, and chivalrous. The stuff of which he was comprised were, Carlyle felt, “things rare and worth, at once pious and true.”

Jan Długosz in his cards made a presentation of Annales…fifteenth century priest and reformer – Jan Kapistran. My purpose was to show the characteristic this person, something valued by chronicle writers. Długosz used different methods, to convince the reader about theconcepts of hero sainthood, for example descriptions such as: famous, reverend, smart-which come from the catalog, which were used by the author many times, symbolical, numbers – three, forty, a hundred, which enforce belief, that next to Jan amazing things are happening. Miracle making, prediction, healing, gift of tiers most appeared in this source biography. Comparing the preacher to St. Augustine strengthened the belief in the sanctity of the hero.

W efekcie przeprowadzonej analizy przedstawione zostanie znaczenie modlitwy epiklezy i jej miejsce w kanonie eucharystycznym tradycji bizantyjskiej.

Aim/Thesis. Important for all the Christian confessions, spiritual autobiography has, unfortunately until now, been insufficiently investigated and highlighted by contemporary researchers. Concept/Methods. Therefore, using information from sources like Confessions of Saint Augustin, but also recent works like the one of Saint Silouan from Athos, Saint John of Kronstadt or Nicolas Berdiaev, using these representative sources for the Orthodox sphere and other volumes, studies and articles, we will try to analyse this genre, to emphasise its interdisciplinary valences, and to show which are landmarks in the Orthodox sphere. We will also try to present its particularities here, its common points with other confessional spheres (Catholic or Protestant), and its practical importance for the Christian life. The information provided by the aforementioned sources will be investigated using deductive, analytic, and inductive methods (and also, the narrative one when the situation will request it).  Results and conclusion. The investigation will show to the reader why, despite of the fact that is a peripheral genre of Theological literature, spiritual autobiography is important for investigation and it helps to create bridges between different spiritualties and investigation domains, but also its potential practical use. Originality/Cognitive value. The analysis is also important because there we will show that, a long time before the rediscovering of subjectivism and subjectivity in literature (which happened in the 20th century, with Modernism), in the theological space this topic was not only known but also valorised in this genre. As methods, we will both use the deductive and the analytic, but we will also not neglect the narrative one.

The article presents the study of the short film Apocrypha by Andrei Zvyagintsev. The text is aimed at the interpretation of the movie in the context of the problem of memory, which is emphasised in the selected work in the explicit and implicit visual associations with the figure and poetry of Iosif Brodsky. The recognition of these characteristic elements in the structure of Zvyagintsev’s film has the influence on the perception of its meaning, leading the culturally aware recipient towards discovering its broad interpretative potential in view of the Russian literary tradition. The study is conducted using the comparative method of analysis. The core theory which constitutes the methodological foundation of the study is Astrid Erll’s concept of cultural memory expounded as intertextuality, i.e. the continuous building up of layers of texts, which are mediated, as well as her idea of transcultural memory, defined in the first instance as a process of fluctuation between the individual and collective level of remembering. Attention is turned to the motifs, which are characteristic both for Brodsky’s and Zvyagintsev’s poetics, such as the aquatic symbolism, temporal and topographical relationships, chromatography of cold colours etc. The application of the selected methodology in the presented discussion allows for exposing the dynamics of the changing nature of culture, which becomes the container of the social and territorial fluctuations of memory.

In this article the author deals with the issue of health care, which Jerome addresses in his letters to ascetics who, in many cases, by their extreme approach to the practice of fasting, destroy their health. On the one hand, Jerome teaches them how to understand and practice fasting in the Christian sense, and on the other hand, similar to today's dietitians, he tries to suggest a proper diet in such a way that it is possible to practice Christian fasting and lead one's life in accordance with the monastic vocation, while maintaining both spiritual and bodily health.

The source material for the present research contains chants and sermons written in honour of Saint Ladislaus from 1634 to 1836. A precise survey shows a variety of motifs dealing with the figure of Saint Ladislaus. The main question of the study is to what extent the Baroque speeches transmit the figure of St. Ladislaus as described in medieval sermons? It is showed that there are many links but it it impossible to find a direct relationship between baroque literature and medieval texts.

The article is an analysis of a collection of a dozen or so studies focused on the cult of saints in Central Europe between the eleventhand the early sixteenth centuries. The author points both to the merits of the publication in question (its emphasis on the intensity of the cult of saints and presentation of the subject matter in international conference languages) as well as its shortcomings: leaving out the question of saintly duchesses and saintly Christianizing dukes, and the shortage of articles discussing the analysed phenomena in a broad Central European context.

Saint Apollonia was a saint somewhere in the early ages, therefore little is known about her life. What we do know, however, is that she was a Catholic nun and lived in Alexandria at the end of the III century. During the uprising against the Christians which took place in Alexandria, she had her jaw broken as well as her teeth smashed, thereafter, she was burned alive. Consequently, the ruthless and extremely painful tortures performed on Saint Apollonia quickly became the topic of a number of graphics, paintings and sculptures. In the following work the authors discuss only a few of the paintings in which Saint Apollonia is depicted.
Wiedza o życiu św. Apolonii jest niewielka. Wiadomo, że mieszkała w Aleksandrii pod koniec III wieku. Była katolicką zakonnicą. Podczas pogromu chrześcijan w Aleksandrii torturowano ją, połamano jej szczękę i powybijano wszystkie zęby, a następnie spalono na stosie. Jej męczeńska śmierć na długo stała się tematem wielu grafi k, obrazów olejnych i rzeźb. W pracy autorzy omawiają tylko niektóre obrazy ukazujące świętą.

Jednym z ciekawszych przykładów obsługi komunikacyjnej portów lotniczych jest wykorzystanie tramwaju w Lyonie. Linia tramwajowa Rhônexpress z Part Dieu do Lyon Saint Exupéry Airport (Satolas) została uruchomiona 9 sierpnia 2010 r. Wykorzystuje ona częściowo tory linii tramwajowej T3 do Meyzieu Z.I., skąd kursuje z prędkością 100 km/h po nowo wybudowanych torach (wyposażonych w sygnalizację kolejową) na lotnisko. Zaprojektowany jako „Liaison ExpresS LYon Saint-Exupéry” (LESLYS) Rhônexpress jest obsługiwany przez Veolia Transdev sześcioma tramwajami Stadler Tango. Zapewnia szybkie i dogodne połączenie lotniska z centrum miasta. Jej charakterystyka techniczna i eksploatacyjna jest przedmiotem niniejszego artykułu.

Lo scopo di questo articolo è quello di presentare la spiritualità brigidina di fronte alle sfi de attuali della vita consacrata. Pertanto, un’analisi dei testi della fondatrice dell’Ordine del Santissimo Salvatore, patrona d’Europa, S. Brigida di Svezia, e la rinnovatrice dell’Ordine nel XX secolo, S. Elisabetta Hesselblad. Come punto di partenza per l’analisi è stato scelto un brano del Vangelo di san Giovanni, che racconta l’incontro tra Gesù e la Samaritana. In questo episodio evangelico troviamo uno stimolo a riscoprire il senso della vita consacrata. Un’attenta analisi dei testi di S. Brigida di Svezia e di S. Elisabetta Hesselblad mostra la loro pertinenza nel contesto dell’insegnamento contemporaneo della Chiesa sulla vita consacrata. Dopo tanti secoli, il cammino spirituale tracciato dalle fondatrici parla alla modernità. Sono vere maestre di vita cristiana e profetesse dei tempi nuovi. I loro pensieri, saldamente radicati nella Parola di Dio, ci permettono di trovare risposte ai dilemmi e alle sfide contemporanee della vita consacrata. La spiritualità delle Brigidine è sfaccettata e complessa, tutto da riscoprire nella sua attualità.
The aim of this article is to present the Brigidian spirituality in the face of the current challenges of consecrated life. Therefore, an analysis of the texts of the founder of the Order of the Most Holy Savior, the patron of Europe, St. Bridget of Sweden, and the renewal of the Order in the 20th century, St. Elizabeth Hesselblad. As a starting point for the analysis, a passage from the Gospel of Saint John was chosen, which tells of the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman. In this Gospel episode we find an incentive to rediscover the meaning of consecrated life. A careful analysis of the texts of St. Bridget of Sweden and St. Elizabeth Hesselblad shows their relevance in the context of the Church’s contemporary teaching on consecrated life. After so many centuries, the spiritual path traced by the foundresses speaks to modernity. They are true teachers of Christian life and prophetesses of the new times. Their thoughts, firmly rooted in the Word of God, enable us to find answers to the dilemmas and contemporary challenges of consecrated life. Brigidian spirituality is multifaceted and complex, all to be rediscovered in its actuality.

The author considers a possible dialogue between Saint Thomas Aquinas and representatives of the New Atheism. His interest focuses on the controversy about the existence of God. The paper is divided into three parts. In the first part the author presents main claims of the doctrine of the New Atheism. In the sec-ond he shows different conceptions of mind (reason) and rationality. In the last he presents Saint Thomas’ conception of rationality based on his metaphysical system. Undertaken considerations lead to a conclusion that the correct concep-tion of mind (reason) is a possible starting point in possible discussion with the New Atheism.

Reunion has few white sand beaches. The most exploitable of them are on the Saint-Paul coast on the west of the island, which are currently in the news after a spate of shark attacks. Their development for tourism has turned Saint-Gilles, once a small fishing and farming village, into a local and international beach resort with extensive repercussions on the organization of the municipal territory in which the agricultural uplands of the hinterland occupied an important area. This article analyses the imbalances created by such development and its sustainability conditions.

Bernardin de Saint-Pierre (1737–1814), who is remembered today primarily for his novel Paul and Virginie, was mainly interested in showing the grandeur of God through his investigations of nature. He viewed nature from the teleological perspective: everything in it has some reason and the human task is to detect this reason. He provided hundreds of examples of such reasons, on many occasions exposing himself to derision. The article shows the importance of orderliness of nature, as it manifests itself in interlocking harmonies, as the way he followed to establish the theological conclusion regarding the existence and the attributes of God.

Aim. The purpose of conducting a self-contained study on the naming of visiting places was the main motivation for this study. It is aimed to examine the historical background, visiting times, pre- and post-visit practices of mausoleum and grave visits seen in Turkish culture based on the regions of Bolu and Duzce, and to create a classification related to the ways in which the visiting places are named. Methods. This study covers the places of visit in Bolu and Duzce provinces in general, and visits to mausoleums in particular. Research: traditions, customs, rites, ceremonies have been revealed based on folk beliefs by using the discipline and methods of folklore. The data were collected through interview, participatory observation, and unattended observation methods. Results. As a result of this study, in Bolu 50, in Duzce 17 the tomb and the grave were examined and it was determined how and according to what these sacred places received their names. Conclusion. In almost every study conducted on sacred places of visit, various researches have been carried out by different disciplines on the naming of sacred places, and a new naming study was being conducted each time according to the characteristics of the region. This has led to the emergence of independent classifications. In this regard, there has been a need to conduct a comprehensive study of the naming and including the characteristics of the person buried in the grave. Based on this need, it was both the first in this field of study and a classification was put forward.

The main points are related to the cultural-anthropological (Michel Foucault) and theological contextualization of diseases (Jean-Claude Larchet) and their treatment in the Middle Ages. Based on the South Slavonic hagiographic literature, the terms physician and healer are defined and specified. The study focuses on the mental disease (insanity), which according to the methodology of Larchet is three types: somatic nature of madness, the madness of demonic origin, and madness of spiritual origin. Also partly concerns the problem of God fools’ insanity.
