Opis:
This project was conducted with a multicultural construction company in Hawaii, USA. The job duties performed included drywall and carpentry work. The following objectives were selected for this project: (a) fire prevention training and inspection of first aid equipment; (b) blood-borne pathogen training and risk evaluation; (c) ergonomic and risk evaluation intervention program; (d) electrical safety training and inspection program; (e) slips, trips, and falls safety training; (f) stress assessment and Personal Profile System; (g) safety and health program survey; (h) improving employee relations and morale by emphasizing spirituality; and (i) computer-assisted biofeedback stress management training. Results of the project indicated that observed safety hazards, reported injuries, and levels of perceived stress were reduced for the majority of the population.

This paper studies safety attitudes, their relationship with safety training behaviour, and generalised self-efficacy. From a sociotechnical perspective, training programs might be used as a mechanism for enhancing attitudes, especially to improve safety and occupational health. Also, self-efficacy allows to enhance training effectiveness. The aim of this paper is to validate a safety attitude scale and to examine its relationship to safety training behaviour and self-efficacy in organisational settings. With data from 140 employees, results show a conceptually meaningful 3-factor solution. Hierarchical multiple regression analysis shows a main effect of safety training behaviour and levels of self-efficacy on safety attitude. Study limitations and its implications on safety training design are also discussed.

The aim of the paper is to present the European Project "MODULE CLOSE TO". The project is executed in eleven European Union countries. The paper describes main objectives and guidelines of the project. The project's main result in the final stage should be the development of conditions for unification of drivers''training system across Europe by introducing into drivers' training new educational module. The module consists in realization of educational method called "peer-to-peer" during drivers' training, which is taken from addiction treatment prevention in which a peer reports on a problem to another peer. In drivers' training, the course participants are confronted with road accident offenders (course participants' peers) and their stories, which should lead to positive changes in attitudes and behaviours of young, beginning drivers and therefore to permanent reduction in number of both road accidents and their victims. The preliminary research confirmed that classes with road accident offenders have a positive influence on developing proper attitudes of young drivers. A discussion concentrated on offender, his/her susceptibility to risky behaviours, accident's circumstances, confrontation with its consequences and on serving an adjudged sentence makes an impression on young course participants. The project anticipates introduction of pilot classes in driving schools, high schools, etc. within the framework of drivers' training with participation of road accident offenders and also evaluation of its influence on course participants. The final effect of the project will be the development of conditions for introducing a new educational module into existing drivers' training system as well as developing conditions for recruiting accident offenders and actions motivating them to join the project realization.

W artykule przedstawiono czynniki mające wpływ na pogorszenie bezpieczeństwa pracy w kopalniach węgla kamiennego. Zaprezentowano wybrane zagadnienia związane z planowaniem robót górniczych w kopalniach węgla kamiennego, zwracając szczególną uwagę na znaczenie kompleksowych projektów eksploatacji w pokładach zagrożonych tąpaniami oraz właściwy sposób rozprowadzania powietrza w rejonach wentylacyjnych w warunkach zagrożenia metanowego, pożarowego, pyłowego i klimatycznego. Następnie przedstawiono zagadnienia związane z stosowanymi technologiami i wyposażeniem technicznym kopalni węgla kamiennego wskazując na ich korzystny wpływ na poprawę bezpieczeństwa pracy. Na końcu zwrócono uwagę na zagadnienia zapewnienia odpowiednich kadr dla polskich kopalni węgla kamiennego, co miało i ma wpływ na poziom bezpieczeństwa w polskich kopalniach i ich wyniki produkcyjne.
The article presents a set of factors that cause a decrease in work safety in Polish carbon mines. Selected aspects of mining planning in Polish carbon mines are presented with special focus on the importance of comprehensive exploitation plans on decks threatened with afterbursts, and a proper way of leading ventilation air flow where there is a methane, fire, dust or climate hazard. Next, the technologies and equipment used in Polish carbon mines are presented and their positive influence on work safety. Proper human resources procedures are discussed, too.

Our paper deals with the methods and techniques used in the educational process in the Maritime University of Constanta to develop the practical abilities and principles in applying the operational procedures and the utilization of the specific safe and rescue equipments at sea, by the students and maritime officers. The educational process has an outstanding role in the career of a maritime officer and the problem of the safety and security is essential in order to avoid catastrophes and for saving human lives. The paper presents the implementation, the role and function of the new simulators as part of the teaching process. Quality cannot be obtained without new teaching methods and training procedures, where IT and simulators occupy an outstanding place. These new methods and techniques have been introduced in the Maritime University of Constanta (MUC) step by step, from the multimedia tools to computers with dedicated complex software.

W artykule przedstawiono analizę przepisów dotyczących zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy w ramach stażu dla bezrobotnych, które chronią w dostateczny sposób stażystę. Jednakże brak kompatybilności pomiędzy przepisami Kodeksu pracy i określającymi zasady odbywania stażu dla bezrobotnych a przepisami regulującymi zasady opieki zdrowotnej nad stażystami, może powodować trudności w realizacji obowiązku przeprowadzenia wstępnych badań lekarskich. Przepisy dotyczące ochrony życia i zdrowia stażystów świadczących pracę w ramach stażu powinny zapewniać taką ochronę.
This article analyses regulations concerning occupational safety and health during unemployment training programmes ensuring young people have sufficient protection. However, lack of compatibility between the Labor Code, regulations on unemployment training courses and regulations on trainees' health care may cause problems with regard to conducting obligatory preliminary medical examinations, whereas such protection is granted by Polish law.

Opis:
Training of merchant vessels crew covers not only theoretical knowledge from a given field but also a lot of practical exercises. Simulators play a very important role here as they make it possible to create real life situations experienced at sea and the true behaviour of a vessel in different conditions. They enable demonstrating real actions taken during ship 's engine failure or during any other breakdown. Thanks to this the course participants and students can experience a variety of different situations which may happen both while operating the vessels during their routine work at sea or when something goes wrong or in distress situations. This article presents the simulators which are at Gdynia Maritime University used for training, their use and the prospective of their development. The author concentrated on presenting the significant role of simulators in the process of education and training of seafarers and officers both those from the deck and from the engine room departments. The simulator base is being constantly developed and sometimes the training employs only part of its possibilities and potential; wider use in the process of training may add a lot to increase the level of safety at sea.

A systematic approach to occupational safety and health (OSH) management and concepts of knowledge management (KM) have developed independently since the 1990s. Most KM models assume a division of knowledge into explicit and tacit. The role of tacit knowledge is stressed as necessary for higher performance in an enterprise. This article reviews literature on KM applications in OSH. Next, 10 sections of an OSH management system (OSH MS) are identified, in which creating and transferring tacit knowledge contributes significantly to prevention of occupational injuries and diseases. The roles of tacit knowledge in OSH MS are contrasted with those of explicit knowledge, but a lack of a model that would describe this process holistically is pointed out. Finally, examples of methods and tools supporting the use of KM in OSH MS are presented and topics of future research aimed at enhancing KM applications in OSH MS are proposed.

Training in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) in today's society is legitimate. European Union pays great attention to the OSH issues. Besides creating a favorable social environment and awareness of compliance with OSH standards, it is important to create the vital platform in the public education system for training of highly qualified experts. At the universities in Slovakia there has been built a system of professional training of specialists in the field. The paper informs on the orientation of Slovak universities on issues of education and training in the field of OSH.
Szkolenie BHP we współczesnym społeczeństwie ma swoje głębokie uzasadnienie. Kwestie BHP są podawane ze szczególną uwagą przez UE. Ponadto waŜne jest tworzenie korzystnego środowiska społecznego dla świadomego przestrzegania norm BHP. Istnieje potrzeba, aby system edukacji publicznej stworzył odpowiednie miejsce dla wykształcenia wysoko wykwalifikowanych specjalistów z tego zakresu. Artykuł ten zawiera informacje na temat orientacji słowackich uniwersytetów na sprawy kształcenia specjalistów z zakresu BHP.

This article describes a certification system of persons responsible for functional safety developed by the Office of Technical Inspection (UDT-CERT) in Poland in cooperation with members of the Programme Committee No. 8 and representatives of two technical universities: in Gdansk and Warsaw. The system is consistent with standard ISO/IEC 17024 concerning the conformity assessment, and includes requirements of EN 61508 and some sector standards. The certification and training programs include two levels of qualification: I – general and II – expert, and four specializations in functional safety: A – hardware and software, B – process industry, C – machinery, and D – nuclear power plants.

Safety of navigation is a complex problem which consists of many aspects. Seagoing and the level of training contribute to one making the right decisions in accordance with the principles of conduct. Crew training takes place at sea, as well as in maritime training centres. The article describes the safety problems of a warship in the event of fires in various regions of the vessel, hull puncture and unsealing. The problems connected with the identification of damage, its types and methods and tools to repair it have been described. The simulator of damage control has been described and scenarios of events which can be simulated have been presented. One of the scenarios – fire in the engine room – has been chosen and the course of the training with the use of the HOMAR OPA (organization of operations against fire and water), simulator produced by The Autocomp company for the Navy Training Center in Ustka, has been described. The main subjects of trainings are connected with fire safety, fire simulation, fire fighting, hull damages, water and fire defence, investigating damages, warship survivability, repair works etc. The trainings with the use of the simulator include preparation procedures for removing the hull damage and equipment failures as part of the process of securing the proper equipment to fight with water and fires, development of methods for detecting the inflow of water and fire, preparation of procedures to fight with water and fire, training of the crew to fight fires and water. The OPA simulator has been developed on the basis of the latest computer technology, with the use of large-size projection on the screen in the form of a cylinder’s segment.
Bezpieczeństwo żeglugi jest złożonym problemem, na który składa się wiele aspektów. Na podejmowanie właściwych decyzji oraz zgodne z zasadami postępowanie wpływa praktyka morska i wyszkolenie. Szkolenie załóg odbywa się podczas rejsów morskich, jak również w ośrodkach szkolenia morskiego. W artykule opisano problemy bezpieczeństwa okrętu wojennego w sytuacji wystąpienia pożarów w różnych rejonach jednostki, przebić kadłuba oraz rozszczelnień. Przedstawiono problemy identyfikacji uszkodzeń, ich rodzaje oraz metody i narzędzia do ich naprawy. Opisano symulator obrony przeciwawaryjnej i scenariusze zdarzeń, które mogą zostać zasymulowane. Wybrano scenariusz pożaru w siłowni oraz opisano przebieg szkolenia załogi na nowo powstałym symulatorze HOMAR OPA (Centrum Szkolenia MW w Ustce). Szkolenie na symulatorze obejmuje procedury przygotowania do usunięcia awarii kadłuba i urządzeń w zakresie zabezpieczenia odpowiedniego sprzętu do walki z wodą i pożarami, opracowanie metod wykrywania napływu wody i wystąpienia pożarów, przygotowanie procedur przeciwdziałania do walki z wodą i pożarami, przeszkolenie załogi w walce z wodą i pożarami. Symulator OPA zbudowany został na bazie najnowszej technologii komputerowej z użyciem wielkogabarytowej projekcji na ekranie będącym wycinkiem walca.

Coraz większe znaczenie zyskuje bezpieczeństwo osobiste pasażerów, kierujących pojazdami i kontrolerów. Do tego dochodzi bezpieczeństwo mienia: pojazdów, przystanków i pozostałej infrastruktury. Artykuł przedstawia działania prowadzone przez przewoźnika na tym polu. Podstawą jest utrzymywanie kompetentnej załogi, która poradzi sobie w skomplikowanych warunkach drogowych wielkiego miasta oraz w przypadku pojawiających się problemów ze strony pasażerów. Drugim znaczącym obszarem działań jest współpraca z instytucjami odpowiedzialnymi w mieście za bezpieczeństwo - w artykule omówiono wspólne akcje przeprowadzane z policją i strażą miejską. Przedstawiono działania przeprowadzane w zakresie infrastruktury przystankowej, w Krakowie bowiem przewoźnik jest odpowiedzialny za jej funkcjonowanie i utrzymanie. Poza tym skrótowo przedstawiono wybrane statystyki dotyczące: ofiar wypadków, struktury przeprowadzanych kontroli i współpracy z innymi instytucjami.
Protection of security in public transport is a complicated challenge. Transport safety is related to the road traffic. Personal passengers' as well as drivers and inspectors safety gains bigger importance. To this catalogue one should add property safety: vehicles, stops and other infrastructure elements. This article presents activities undertaken by the carrier in this scope. The basis is to employ competent staff who can manage in complicated road conditions occurring in a big city and in case of problems with passengers as well. The second important area of activities is cooperation with institutions responsible for the safety in the city. Actions executed together with the Police and the City Guard (municipal police unit) have been presented in the article. Since in Cracow it is the carrier which is responsible for maintaining of the public transport stops infrastructure, the activities related to this task have been discussed in the article as well. Besides, selected statistics concerning victims of accidents, structure of inspections and cooperation with other institutions have been presented in short.

Príspevok poukazuje na dôležitosť výchovy a vzdelávania v oblasti dodržiavania bezpečnej práce a ochrany zdravia študentov – budúcich učiteľov chémie. Je venovaný potrebe rozvoja a požiadavkám na rastúce nároky na bezpečnosť a hygienu práce. Téma výchovy a vzdelávanie v oblasti dodržiavania zásad bezpečnej práce je dnes vysoko aktuálna. Cieľom výchovy a vzdelávania k BOZP je poskytnúť študentom potrebné vedomosti a informácie a rozvíjať zručnosti a návyky pre bezpečnú prácu.
The paper shows the importance of education and trainig in the field of respecting the safe work and the students’ health prevention – future chemistry teachers. It is about the need of development, and demands on increasing requirements to safety and hygiene of work. Topic of education and training in the area of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is very actual nowadays. The aim of OHS education is to offer students needed knowledge and information, to develop skills and habits, which are inevitable for safe work.
