Opis:
Tree−ring chronologies were created for infested by the horse chestnut leaf−miner horse chestnut trees from Kleparski Park and Rakowicki Cemetery in Kraków. Radial growth depression was observed during the outbreak. Statistically significant differences in tree−ring widths during and before an outbreak were found only for chestnut trees from Kleparski Park. The different resistance to chestnut leaf−miner feeding was observed on trees originated from distinct urban growth condition of Krakow.

Opis:
The paper presents the dendrochronological analysis of silver firs (Abies alba Mill.) growing in the canopy layer of the forest stands. We searched for the similarities in the rhythm of radial growth of studied trees and we analysed the response of these stands to the increment disturbances related to the occurrence of adverse climatic factors and the pressure from industrial pollution. The research material was collected in 30 pure and uneven−aged silver fir stands located in the Świetokrzyskie Mountains (central Poland). We investigated the effect of age of the stands and the conditions for their growth (location, forest habitat type) on an average tree−ring width. In order to detect similarities in the rhythm of radial growth of the surveyed stands, we grouped the raw chronologies by the means of the cluster analysis, using Ward's agglomeration procedure with 1−r distance (r – Pearson correlation coefficient). We assessed the incremental response of the investigated stands to the disturbances (situations of significantly reduced radial growth) using indicators of resistance, recovery and resilience proposed by Lloret et al. [2011]. We also studied the influence of the stand age and the forest habitat type on the response of analysed for stands to the detected disturbances. The shortest chronology consisted of 94 tree−rings, while the longest one of 137. Average length of the obtained silver fir chronologies was 119 years. Older fir stands characterised with narrower rings (r=–0.451, p=0.012). Neither the location, nor the forest habitat type are the factors determining the similarity of the rhythm of radial growth of silver firs from the Świętokrzyskie Mountains (p=0.243 and p=0.967 respectively). The extreme climatic conditions responsible for the majority of the short−term (one−year−long) incremental depressions are the factor of regional importance, which affects the growth of investigated trees. Older stands characterized with better possibilities of increment recovery after the disturbance than younger stands (p<0.001), which may be a result of the production of secondary crowns. No consistent differences in the indices of resistance and resilience were found among analysed stands.

Opis:
The wild service tree (Sorbus torminalis L.) is a very rare tree species in Poland, which also represents the north-eastern border of its natural range. The majority of this species’ stands is found in Wielkopolska. This study was aimed at examining the relationships between growth and climate for trees of the species Sorbus torminalis L. growing in the Wielkopolski National Park and the forest district Pniewy (Wielkopolska). Samples for the analysis were taken from 63 trees. However, taking into account the missing growth rings and difficult identification of the tree-ring borders in sapwood, only ca. 30% of the samples could be synchronized and dated accurately. Applying classic methods of dendrochronological dating, a 94-year STW chronology was constructed, spanning the years 1920–2013. The chronology, in turn, was used as a basis for dendroclimatological analyses including correlation, response function and pointer years. Climatic data used in the analyses came from the meteorological station in Poznań; providing air temperature and precipitation for a period of 66 years (1948–2013) and 48 years of insolation data (1966–2013). Insolation had the highest negative and precipitation the highest positive impact on the annual growth in May and June. Positive pointer years could be linked to humid months with low insolation during the growth season, while negative pointer years are characterized by deficient precipitation, a large number of sunny hours and high air temperatures in the summer months.

Opis:
Jedną z przyczyn zamierania dębów nadwarciańskich upatruje się w zmianach warunków wodnych wynikających z regulacji przepływów Warty po wybudowaniu zbiornika Jeziorsko. W pracy przyjęto, że indykatorem stanu zdrowotnego dębów może być szerokość słojów rocznych drewna. Celem pracy było określenie ewentualnych zmian szerokości słojów rocznych drewna dębów szypułkowych, które mogły wynikać z oddziaływania zbiornika retencyjnego oraz wielkości opadów atmosferycznych w okresach wegetacyjnych. Ocenę różnic w przyrostach słojów drewna dokonano używając narzędzi dwukierunkowej analizy wariancji. Szczegółową analizę przeprowadzono przy użyciu kontrastów testujących interakcje. Przeprowadzona analiza wykazała, ze prawdopodobną przyczyną osłabienia kondycji badanego drzewostanu dębowego w Nadleśnictwie Konstantynowo były mniejsze od średniej z wielolecia opady atmosferyczne w okresach wegetacyjnych: 2003–2005.
Changes in water conditions resulting from the regulation of the Warta flows following the construction of the Jeziorsko reservoir are considered to be one of the causes for the dying of oaks growing at the Warta River. It was assumed in the study that annual ring width may be the indicator of health state of oaks. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of possible changes in annual ring width in common oaks, which could have resulted from the impact of the storage reservoir and the precipitation totals in the vegetation seasons. Differences in ring increments were assessed using the tools of the two-way analysis of variance. Detailed analysis was conducted with the use of contrasts testing interactions. The analysis showed that a probable cause of the deteriorated health state of the investigated oak stand in the Konstantynowo Forest Division were precipitation levels lower than the multiannual means, recorded during vegetation seasons 2003–2005.

Opis:
Tree−ring analysis of pine stands living under the influence of industry in south−eastern part of Silesia−Krakow Upland was performed for the last years. Now the new transect was added in the Olkusz region. Previous studies showed the distinct relationship between number of trees with observed reductions and distance from main source of pollution it this region. On the sites localised nearest to zinc−works "Bolesław" the value and the duration of reduction periods were the biggest. On the sites of new transect (OL VI) situated to the north from site OL 15, the influence of zinc−works is rather uncertain. Because of the time of occurrence and the distance form zinc−work, the reductions observed here seem to be the reaction to the other factor – perhaps the local source of pollution. To explain this matter further studies in this region should be done.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to assess the impact of climatic factors (temperature and precipitation) on tree ring width of larches from stands localised in southern part of Poland. Total ring as well as early− and latewood widths were taken in consideration. At the beginning authors used only standard processing and methods. Classic approach were insufficient to make some data useful for the correlation analysis, so authors decided to use more robust, custom methods.

Opis:
The study focused on tree rings of European beech in the stands in the Iława Forest District. The aim of the study was to analyse the effect of climatic conditions on the formation of the annual ring width at the limits of beech natural distribution in an area where the Atlantic and Continental climate meet and overlap. The mean tree−ring width was relatively wide and equalled 2,89 mm. The obtained time series covered the years between 1900 and 2002. On the basis of the response function analysis and indicator years it was demonstrated that there was a considerable impact of spring/summer precipitation on annual growth ring formation.
