Opis:
The surprising similarity between decorative motifs found in Rome, Versailles, Warsaw, Berlin, Vienna and Szczecin is worth taking a closer look at to see how they relate. The popularity of the iconographic motif depicting Fames blowing on trumpets grew significantly during the Baroque period. It was because of its visual attractiveness and explicitness. This motive was a clear sign of the founder's prestige. The sources of the formal similarities between the presented examples are discussed in this article.
Zaskakujące podobieństwo między motywami dekoracyjnymi spotykanymi w Rzymie, Wersalu, Warszawie, Berlinie, Wiedniu i Szczecinie stało się powodem podjęcia poszukiwań ich wzajemnych relacji. Popularność motywu ikonograficznego, przedstawiającego Sławy dmące w trąby, wzrosła znacząco w okresie baroku. Wynikała ona z jego wizualnej atrakcyjności i jednoznaczności. Motyw ten stanowił bowiem dobitną oznakę prestiżu fundatora. Źródła podobieństw formalnych między prezentowanymi przykładami rozważa niniejszy artykuł.

Artykuł przedstawia omówienie wyników badania empirycznego na temat postrzegania celebrytów przez współczesne społeczeństwo. W części teoretycznej dokonano przeglądu literatury. Wspomniano o różnych definicjach celebryty, ich funkcjach w społeczeństwie oraz o statusach otrzymywanych ze względu na status społeczny. Badanie przeprowadzono za pomocą ankiety ilościowo-jakościowej przy wykorzystaniu kwestionariusza internetowego. Autorka próbowała ustalić skojarzenia dotyczące tych osób, ich zajęcia oraz grupę docelową ich działań - wszystko widziane oczyma zwykłego odbiorcy. Zainteresowano się również wpływem celebrytów na życie respondentów. Ankiety zostały wypełnione przez ponad 300 osób, w większości w wieku od 17 do 25 lat, mieszkających na terenie Polski. Zamierzone cele badawcze zostały osiągnięte, co umożliwiło wstępne zbadanie danego tematu oraz wyciągnięcie odpowiednich wniosków. Ustalono m.in. trzy główne obszary, z którymi kojarzono celebrytów oraz krótkie definicje tychże osób.
This article presents the results of an empirical study on the perception of celebrities by modern society. In the theoretical part, the literature was reviewed. Various definitions of a celebrity, their functions in society and the statuses received by virtue of their social status have been mentioned. The study was conducted with the use of a quantitative and qualitative survey method - in this case an online questionnaire.. The author tried to establish associations about these people, their activities and the target group of their activities - all seen through the eyes of an ordinary audience. There was also an interest in the influence of celebrities on the respondents’ lives. The questionnaires were completed by over 300 people, mostly aged 17-25, living in Poland. The intended research goals have been achieved, which allowed for initial research on a given topic and drawing appropriate conclusions. It was established, i.a., three main areas with which celebrities were associated and short definitions of these people.

In the presented essay the diagnosis of narcissism as a socio-cultural ‘disease’ is discussed in a wider anthropological context of expositional and relational aspects of personal identity, based on selected narrative-oriented theories of the subject. According to them, the process of finding or creating the genuine self depends on how one presents oneself (the expositional aspect) to others (relational aspects). It creates a ground on which contemporary forms of ‘digital narcissism’ can develop. The article shows how these aspects have already reached their deviated form in ‘celebrity culture’ (analysed in the classic work by Christopher Lash), only to be brought to their extreme in the era dominated by interactive social media. Researchers seem to overemphasise the scope of this phenomenon and the risk it entails, as they don’t take into account more ‘passive’ usages of social media. The asymmetry between the ‘stage’ and the ‘audience’ – those who show themselves and their lives on the screens, and those who observe it – is still maintained, even if access to the ‘stage’ seems to be easier than in any epoch before. It is an assumption that supports a purely theoretical concern that eventually no one will be left to continue watching (a fear of an empty ‘audience’ discussed for example by Andrew Keen in The Cult of the Amateur). After all, a path to digital fame – the dream of every coeval ‘narcissist’ – is not as simple as it is often assumed. Even if, theoretically, available to everyone, only a few will be able to use this opportunity in its entirety. Most users will ultimately give up after their multiple tries to attract other people’s attention and accept their role as viewers prove ineffective. Another problem that derives from the ‘celebrity culture’ is that one can put oneself out there, on the public ‘stage’, not only through extraordinary achievements, talents, self-determination and hard work, as it supposedly was in the past, but also through an excessive, grossly offensive or outstandingly distasteful behaviour. As Umberto Eco put it, reputation has been replaced by publicity (in some cases no matter the cost). Nevertheless, there are still definitely more ‘admirers’ than ‘idols’ – more followers than the ones that are followed.

The Warsaw Model Library for Children, opened in Warsaw in November 1927, is one of the best-known institutions of this type in Poland. Its organization and methods of work have served, according to the name, as an organizational model of other children’s libraries. However, the library is not only a place and collections but also people – librarians. The article presents the characters of three managers of this library and their contribution to the development of such a single institution and its impact on the nationwide network of public libraries for children. The character and activity of the organizer and the first manager of the library Maria Gutry, then Zofia Wędrychowska-Papuzińska, and Sława Łabanowska, a long-time first post-war library manager, will be discussed. The fate of the library itself is the background to present their activity. The available biographical materials and archival documents collected in the library will be referred to.

Artykuł podejmuje problem wyjawiania własnych ukrytych grzechów poza forum sakramentalnym w kontekście miłości osoby w prawdzie. Na początku szeroko omówiona jest argumentacja dotycząca zachowania tajemnicy spowiedzi w ujęciu bł. Jana Dunsa Szkota. Na bazie uzyskanych stąd argumentów oraz tez św. Tomasza o skończoności zła i niekonieczności doskonałego poznania dla miłości autor snuje dalszą refleksję. Prowadzi ona do wniosku o fakultatywności wyznania swoich grzechów poza spowiedzią. Jednocześnie artykuł podkreśla wartość zachowania sekretu zabezpieczającego dobrą sławę osoby, konieczną dla życia w społeczności.
The article takes up the problem of revealing one’s own hidden sins outside the sacramental forum in the context of love for the person in truth. First, the author provides a thorough presentation of Bl. John Duns Scotus’ reasoning concerning keeping the seal of confession. Based on arguments gained this way, as well as on the theses of St. Thomas Aquinas on the finiteness of evil and the lack of necessity of perfect cognition due to love, the author continues his reflection, leading to the conclusion that revealing one’s sins outside the sacrament of penance and reconciliation is optional. At the same time the article emphasises the value of secrecy in protecting a person’s good name, which is essential for life in society.

Historia Podobwodu AK Sędziszów–Ropczyce kryptonim „Sława”, który wyodrębniono wiosną 1944 r. z Obwodu Armii Krajowej Dębica „Deser”, nie była dotąd przedmiotem odrębnego opracowania. W oparciu o dokumenty z zasobów Archiwum Państwowego w Rzeszowie oraz Archiwów IPN podjęto próbę wypełnienia tej luki. Podstawą opracowania są dokumenty ze szczebla Inspektoratu AK Rzeszów „Rtęć” (archiwa Podobwodu i Obwodu nie zachowały się) uzupełnione relacjami żołnierzy AK. Podobwód „Sława” powstał w końcowym okresie konspiracji antyniemieckiej, jednak Placówki: Brzeziny krypt. „Bomba”, Sędziszów I „Sława”, Sędziszów II „Gracja”, Łączki Kucharskie „Ławka”, Ropczyce I „Rakieta”, Ropczyce II „Ropa”, tworzone były i funkcjonowały od samego początku okupacji. Opisując je kolejno, skupiano się na jednym, za każdym razem innym, rodzaju działalności AK. Zaprezentowane tu, wybrane działania Placówek nie były ich wyłącznymi domenami, ale taka forma opisu pozwoliła w sposób skondensowany ukazać funkcjonowanie AK w każdym z możliwych aspektów. Były to: tworzenie struktur konspiracji, szkolenia, pozyskiwanie broni, wywiad i kontrwywiad, konspiracyjna produkcja broni, działania dywersyjne i sabotażowe, funkcjonowanie podziemnego wymiaru sprawiedliwości, odbiór zaopatrzenia lotniczego, akcja scaleniowa, przygotowania do wystąpienia zbrojnego przeciwko okupantowi, jego realizacja oraz działalność służb pomocniczych. W ramach podsumowania przedstawione zostały losy żołnierzy Podobwodu „Sława” po wkroczeniu na jego teren Sowietów – aż do chwili wejścia w życie rozkazu o rozwiązaniu Armii Krajowej z 19 stycznia 1945 r.
The history of the Sędziszów–Ropczyce Sława Home Army Subdivision, which was separated from the Dębica Deser Home Army Division in the spring of 1944, has not been the subject of a separate study so far. Based on the documents available in State Archive in Rzeszów and the IPN Archives, the author has made an attempt to fill this gap. The basis of the study are the documents from the Home Army Inspectorate Rzeszów Rtęć (archives of the Subdivision and the Division were destroyed), supplemented by the accounts of the Home Army soldiers. The Sława Subdivision was created in the final period of anti-German conspiracy, but the outposts: Brzeziny Bomba, Sędziszów I Sława, Sędziszów II Gracja, Łączki Kucharskie Ławka, Ropczyce I Rakieta, Ropczyce II Ropa were being created and functioned from the very beginning of the occupation. Describing them one by one, the author focused on a different type of Home Army activity for each one. The selected activities of the outposts were nottheir exclusive domain, but this manner of description made it possible to show how the Home Army functioned in a condensed manner, and in every possible aspect.These aspects include: the creation of underground structures, training courses, acquiring weapons, intelligence and counter-intelligence, clandestine production of weapons, sabotage and diversionary activities, a functioning underground justice system, receiving air supplies, structural consolidation, preparations for an armed struggle against the occupant and its execution, and the activities of auxiliary services. As a conclusion, the fate of the soldiers of the Sława Subdivision is presented, from the point of the Soviet invasion onto the Subdivision’s territory until the order to dissolve the Home Army of 19 January 1945 came into effect.

Sława i chwała [Fame and Glory] by Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz has been named as the author’s masterpiece. The work contains autobiographical elements and constitutes a summary of the writer’s ethical experiences, a historiosophical and philosophical synthesis. Only a few reviews have been published concerning the TV series adaptation, directed by Kazimierz Kutz under the auspices of the Polish Television in 1997. The first part of the article (Sensuality recoded) examines the specificity of the imagery of Iwaszkiewicz and Kutz, i.e. the translation of the sensuality of this prose to the language of cinema. Points 2–4 (Antiheroism, “Fame and Glory” as a social panorama, Dilemmas of a 20th-century artist) focus on the reading of the sense of the novel and the way the director relays it on the screen. The final considerations (Infamy) examine the causes of the commercial failure of the adaptation and make an attempt to evaluate the series. It turns out that, despite a modest budget and limited airtime, Kutz has preserved much of the spirit of the original work – it is still the same story about the end of a certain world

Autorka podejmuje próbę analizy wartości „sławy”. Niniejszy artykuł ukazał stosunek do sławy wybranych młodych celebrytów. Celem artykułu było ustalenie motywacji, które kierują młodymi ludźmi w dążeniu do sławy. Próbowano ustalić, czy sława była dla nich wartością samą w sobie, czy traktowali ją instrumentalnie. Materiał badawczy pochodził z wywiadów udzielonych przez celebrytów w różnych mediach. Analiza treści wypowiedzi pozwoliła pokazać, jakim zmianom podlegało podejście do sławy młodych osób robiących karierę medialną. Celebryci są szczególną kategorią, także dlatego że mają moc wzorotwórczą. Stanowią dla wielu, szczególnie młodych osób, postaci do naśladowania. Właśnie dlatego zwrócono uwagę na znaczenie, jakie przypisują sławie młodzi celebryci.
The author attempts to analyze the value of “fame”. This article showed the attitude of selected young celebrities to fame. The goal of the article was to establish the motivation that drives young people to fame and to determine whether fame was for them a value in itself or if it was treated instrumentally. The researched material was gathered from the interviews with celebrities published in different media. The analysis of the aforementioned material allowed to present the changes in young celebrities’ approach to fame.

The practice of contemporary artists is sometimes similar to the methodology of the researcher of the past. The creators engaged in the discovery of history, generate images of memory using historically or biologically similar methods, among which archival research, archaeological excavations and botanical experiments are a full-fledged artistic method. The reason for the work of Sława Harasymowicz is the nearby history, in which the members of her family and herself participated. Thierry Oussou has recently become famous for the excavation mystic that triggered the diplomatic incident. In his artistic work, Michael Wang raises global themes: climate change and economics. Their projects level the artistic and research work with the process. They reject the dictates of the objectivity, and linearity of the story. The method chosen by them, the questions posed and comments made by commentators are included in the discourse of contemporary humanities, in which the human subject has been included in the system of dependencies between animals, plants, and machines.
