    “Not so much reportage as confession of love” – about the tendency to idealize Georgian culture in contemporary Polish travel reportage After 2008, Georgian culture has become the subject of many Polish travel reportages. It is idealized, resulting from the need to reproduce the myth of PolishGeorgian friendship. This myth arose from Russophobia existing in Poland and Georgia. Two of the three narratives studied are strongly Russophobic. The analysis of the content of the reports was carried out in reference to the model of cultural differences by G. Hofstede.

    The article discusses urban place names in Łódź in three historical period when Poland was not independent: during the partitions, the First World War, and the Second World War. The analysis focused on ways of German and Russian intervention into urban place naming in Łódź. It describes naming techniques (translations of Polish names, adaptations to foreign phonetic and writing systems, renaming) and the goals of foreign intervention into Polish place naming. The conclusion is that Russian and German interventions during the partitions and the first world war were mainly aimed at cultural assimilation, and consisted in use of Russified and Germanized forms. During the Second World War, on the other hand, Germans were consistently instilling elements of Nazi-German culture and history in place names.

    Ethnic and linguistic changes of the Belarusian population at the turn of the 21th centuryThe first part of the article presents historical background of the origin of the Belarusian nation, located in the area of a confrontation between Russia and Poland. This rivalry was won by Russia, and in effect Belarusian land was incorporated into the Russian Empire, and later into the Soviet state. The next part presents the 20th century ethnic structure as the consequence of the Bolshevik Revolution and World Wars I and II, resulting in some border changes, war loses and migration movements. The main part of the article deals with the ethnic and language changes which occurred in the last decade of the 20th and in the first decade of the 21st centuries. The statistical analysis and interpretation is based on data from three population censuses (1989, 1999, 2009). An ethnic structure and linguistic situation are presented with the emphasis placed on the status of the two languages commonly used in Belarus, i.e. Russian and Belarusian, as seen in two categories: of mother language and of the language used for communication at home. The conclusions prove the expansion of popularity of the Russian language and gradual decrease of the use of the Belarusian language, both in public and at home. The processes of Russification, which had begun in the Soviet period, are intensifying despite the fact that Belarus regained its political souverianity as a country. On the basis of quantitative data the author defines specific intensity and territorial distribution of the influence of the Russian language. The final part of the article shows political and geo-political consequences of these changes in Belarus.

    This paper deals with the problems of religious coexistence in late-imperial Russia based on the case of Buryatia. The only state religion – Russian Orthodoxy – saw its task in converting the non-Russians by all possible means and in shortest time. This policy coincided with the interests of the state, as religious homogenization was considered the most effective way to achieve the desired loyalty and patriotism among all subjects of the Empire. Buddhism, which according to the Orthodox clergy was a so-called foreign religion, presented a potential threat to the state, as its believers could be under influences from abroad. The author argues that the secular authorities both in St. Petersburg and in Eastern Siberia faced a dilemma that consisted in the necessity to conduct Russification among non-Russians and simultaneously to strengthen the borders of the Empire in the East. The Buryat subjects were officially allowed to confess Buddhism, since the authorities, being aware of danger from Qing China, needed a balanced policy towards them to avoid discontent and disturbances. Under such conditions, the Orthodox clergy, missionaries in particular, disregarding the damage their intolerance could cause to the state’s interests, became opponents to Siberian officials, accusing them of supporting Buddhism and Buddhist priesthood instead of rendering all possible assistance in the Christianization of non-Russians.

    The article studies the anti-national population policy of the USSR taking as the example the titular nation of Ukraine during the 1960s –1970s. The author investigates inner republican effects of migration (increasing the number of mixed marriages and the displacement of the Ukrainian language by Russian) and studies official statistics – Union censuses in 1959, 1970, and 1979 which allow a comparative analysis of the dynamics of the Ukrainians and territorial distribution in different regions of the republic. The author has found that in the outlined period the USSR government always created anti-Ukrainian background at all levels, which formed a widespread anti-national population policy of Russification and assimilation of the Ukrainians; there was an artificial formation of national-ethnic structure of the Ukrainian SSR and forcing international convergence to create a “single Soviet people”. Any statement or reference to Ukrainian national problems was regarded as a ground for harassment and persecution by the Soviet authorities and accusation of “Ukrainian bourgeois nationalism”. It has been proved that Ukrainians were the dominant nation almost throughout the USSR in the outlined period. The number of Ukrainians increased exclusively trough natural population growth, while the number of representatives of the Russian nation increased as a result of internal migration. The article presents the idea that Ukraine was one of the centers of accumulation of immigration flows in the Soviet Union, and because of this fact the multicultural Ukrainian SSR society, which basically constituted of Ukrainians, gradually turned into a bi-national society, where the Ukrainian majority coexisted with the continuously growing Russian minority. Resettlements were carried out primarily for political reasons and their aim was to deprive the native people of their national characteristics – language, culture, and the like. Demographic, economic, and social processes that were spread under the slogan of “internationalist aid” substantially changed the proportion of native and settled populations in some regions.

    This article examines the position of the Ukrainian language in educational institutions of the USSR during the 60s and 70s of the twentieth century. It is shown that the Soviet government actively implemented the policy of Russification, the aim of which was the complete destruction of the national-educational space of Ukrainians. Numerous decisions and resolutions of the country’s top party leadership have laid a solid foundation for the introduction of Russian as the language of interethnic communication. In the field of education, the ideologues of communism tried to shift the emphasis from the national characteristics of Ukrainians to the “common” for all – the Soviet ones. Oppression of the native language has caused alarm among the Ukrainian public. Realizing that the Ukrainian language is the basis for the preservation and development of the Ukrainian nation, the Ukrainian intelligentsia led the movement to protect it. Disagreeing with Russification, Ukrainians used all possible forms of protest against it at the time. It came to the formation of open opposition to Khrushchev’s educational reform. Many letters were received by various levels of government, newspapers, and magazines from various publishers, whose authors were concerned about the unequal position of the Russian and Ukrainian languages and expressed their indignation at the functioning of a large number of Russian-language educational institutions. Ukrainians were encouraged to spread the Ukrainian language and take care of its further development, thus seeking to preserve their own national identity. And the Ukrainian language continued to live and develop in the thick of the masses.

    Stłumienie powstania styczniowego 1863 roku spowodowało zaostrzenie represji carskiego zaborcy wobec społeczeństwa Królestwa Polskiego. Nasilenie działań rusyfikacyjnych oprócz wszystkich dziedzin życia społecznego objęło także system penitencjarny. Dzieje tego systemu po utracie autonomii Królestwa, które zaczęto nazywać Krajem Przywiślańskim, jak dotąd są znane jedynie fragmentarycznie. Podstawową barierą do zajmowania się badaniem tego okresu są zachowane źródła archiwalne, które zostały wytworzone w zdecydowanej mierze w języku rosyjskim. Na potrzeby niniejszego artykułu została przeprowadzona analiza najważniejszych elementów stanowiących podstawę ówczesnego systemu penitencjarnego, tj. ustawodawstwa penitencjarnego, organizacji więziennictwa, podstawowych środków oddziaływania penitencjarnego na więźniów oraz personelu więziennego.
    The suppression of the January Uprising in 1863 increased the repression of the tsarist invader against the society in the Kingdom of Poland. The intensification of Russification activities, apart from all areas of social life, also included the penitentiary system. The history of this system after the loss of the autonomy of the Kingdom, which came to be called the Vistula Land, is so far known only fragmentarily. The basic barrier to researching this period are the preserved archival sources, which were largely produced in Russian. For the purposes of this article, an analysis of the most important elements constituting the basis of the penitentiary system at that time was conducted, i.e. penitentiary legislation, organization of the prison system, basic means of penitentiary interaction on prisoners and prison staff.

    Działalność rządowych seminariów nauczycielskich na terenie Królestwa Polskiego w latach 1866–1915 służyła przygotowaniu kandydatów do pracy pedagogicznej w szkołach elementarnych. Przyjęty w seminariach model kształcenia i wychowania przyszłych nauczycieli miał zagwarantować realizację polityki rusyfikacyjnej w oświacie elementarnej. Wychowankowie seminarium zdobywali w nich nie tylko przydatną wiedzę pedagogiczną, ale również zostali poddani intensywnym zabiegom o charakterze wychowawczym, mającym z nich uczynić nauczycieli wiernie wykonujących polecenia zwierzchników. Postawione przez władze rosyjskie zadania przekładały się na sposób organizacji pracy dydaktyczno-wychowawczej prowadzonej w seminariach nauczycielskich i wymagały odpowiedniego doboru kadry pedagogicznej odpowiedzialnej za kształcenie wychowanków.
    The activities of government teachers’ training colleges in the Kingdom of Poland in the years 1866–1915 served to prepare candidates for teaching work in elementary schools. The model of education and upbringing of future teachers adopted in the seminars was to guarantee the implementation of the Russification policy in elementary education. The graduates of the seminary not only gained useful pedagogical knowledge there but also were subjected to intensive educational efforts aimed at turning them into teachers faithfully carrying out the orders of their superiors. The tasks set by the Russian authorities translated into the way of organizing didactic and educational work carried out in teachers’ training colleges and required the appropriate selection of teaching staff responsible for educating pupils.

    "The Domestic Notes" by Bishop Maciej Wołonczewski (Motiejus Valančius) as a contribution to the knowledge of the social and linguistic situation on the territory of the former Grand Duchy of Lithuania under the rule of the tsarsThe article introduces the interesting, albeit controversial, figure of Maciej Wołonczewski (Motiejus Valančius), an important member of the nineteenth-century clergy, and his Polish-language legacy. The bishop of Samogitia’s "Domestic Notes" document persecutions of the Catholic Church in Lithuania after the November and January Uprisings at the hands of Russian Tzarist authorities, and reflect the state of Polish language and its social functions in this historical period.Valančius’ manuscripts, published in the volume edited by the historians Aldona Prašmantaitė and Jan Jurkiewicz [Motiejus Valančius, Namų užrašai (The Domestic Notes), Vilnius: Baltos Lankos, 2003], were subjected to the far-reaching standardization of spelling, thus they are not a reliable source for a linguistic research. A linguist, who would make the effort of describing the Polish language of the author, should therefore locate and take advantage the original sources, dispersed in various archives in Vilnius. "Домашние записки" епископа Матвея Волончевского. К вопросу о социальной и языковой обстановке на территории бывшего Великого княжества Литовского во время царского правленияСтатья приближает интересную, но спорную, личность священника XIX-го века и его письменное наследие на польском языке. Заметки епископа Матвея Волончевского документируют репрессии, применяемые царским правительством по отношению к Католической церкви в Литве после восстаний против царской власти, и – одновременно – отражают состояние тогдашнего польского языка и его общественные функции. Изданные в научной разработке историков: Альдоны Прашмантайте и Яна Юркевича рукописи Волончевского [Motiejus Valančius, Namų užrašai (Домашние заметки), Vilnius: Baltos lankos, 2003] сильно кодифицированы и не могут быть достоверным источником лингвистических исследований. Лингвист, который захочет изучить польский язык жемайтского автора, будет вынужден работать с подлинниками, разбросанными по разным вильнюсским архивным фондам.

Ukazujemy strategie i obszary działań ruchów (walka o prawa konsumenckie, oddolna produkcja i dystrybucja ukraińskojęzycznych treści, popularyzacja języka, inicjatywy ustawodawcze) oraz ich potencjalny wpływ na politykę państwową.
    The article presents the activities of social movements for Ukrainian language in Ukraine since the Orange Revolution till present time (2005-2017). It explores strategies employed by these movements and fields of their operation (including struggle for consumer rights, grassroots production and distribution of Ukrainian language content, promotion of Ukrainian language use, legislative initiatives) as well as their prospective influence on state policy.

    Artykuł zawiera wyniki badań nad świadomością narodową społeczeństwa Białorusi i jej rolą w samoidentyfikacji narodowej Białorusinów. Ocenę stopnia świadomości narodowej autor przedstawił w kontekście polityki historycznej, a zwłaszcza istotnego dylematu (konieczności wyboru) między Zachodem, reprezentowanym przez Polskę i Litwę, a Wschodem, który jest utożsamiany z Rosją? Odrodzenie narodowe Białorusinów ukazane zostało w związku z fiaskiem polityki rusyfikacyjnej władz, realizowanej w latach 1995-2014 – od referendum w sprawie przywrócenia symboliki z czasów Białoruskiej SRR i równości języka rosyjskiego, do aneksji ukraińskiego Krymu i rozpoczęcia wojny hybrydowej w Donbasie. Wspomniane wydarzenia wpłynęły na zmianę postrzegania Rosji przez władze i patriotycznie świadomą część społeczeństwa. Uważana uprzednio za państwo sojusznicze, Rosja stała się w świadomości Białorusinów mocarstwem perspektywicznie zagrażającym niepodległości Białorusi. Jest to widoczne zwłaszcza w obliczu powtarzających się nacisków Rosji na pogłębienie integracji obu państw.
    The article contains the results of research on the national consciousness of Belarusian society and its role in the national self-identification of Belarusians. The author assessed the degree of national awareness in the context of historical policy, and in particular the important dilemma (necessity of choice) between the West, represented by Poland and Lithuania, and the East, which is identified with Russia. The national revival of Belarusians was shown in connection with the fiasco of the Russification policy of the authorities, implemented in 1995-2014 - from the referendum on the restoration of the symbols of the Belarusian SSR and the equality of the Russian language, to the annexation of the Ukrainian Crimea and the start of the hybrid war in the Donbass. These events changed the perception of Russia by the authorities and the patriotic conscious part of society. Previously considered an ally, Russia became a power in the minds of Belarusians that threatens Belarus's independence in future. This is especially evident in the face of Russia's repeated pressure to deepen the integration of both countries.

    Miesięcznik „Biełarus” porusza problemy społeczne, polityczne, religijne, a także zagadnienia języka białoruskiego i tożsamości narodowej Białorusinów. Spośród ponad 180 publikacji z lat 1980–2010 analizie poddano wybrane artykuły poruszające kwestie bilingwizmu na Białorusi i związane z tym problemy rusyfikacji języka białoruskiego, jego miejsca w systemie edukacji oraz w duchowym życiu Białorusinów, a także zależności między językiem ojczystym a świadomością narodową. Z oglądu tych artykułów wynika, że dla publicystów gazety język ojczysty był i jest ważnym elementem tożsamości narodowej. Wzięli oni na siebie rolę edukacyjną, prezentując historię języka białoruskiego i jego wpływ na rozwój świadomości narodowej Białorusinów oraz zachęcając w ten sposób czytelników do posługiwania się językiem białoruskim w życiu codziennym.
    The "Belarus" monthly deals with social, political and religious problems, as well as the issues of the Belarusian language and the national identity of Belarusians. From over 180 publications between 1980 and 2010, we have analyzed selected articles addressing the issues of bilingualism in Belarus and related problems like the Russification of the Belarusian language, its place in the education system and in the religious life of Belarusians, as well as the relationship between the mother tongue and the Belarusian national identity. After reviewing these articles, it appears that the native language was and still is an important element of national identity for journalists. They took on an educational role, presenting the history of the Belarusian language and its impact on the development of the national identity of Belarusians, and thus encouraging readers to use the Belarusian language in everyday life.
    Штомесячнік „Беларус” закранае грамадскія, палітычныя, рэлігійныя праблемы, а таксама пытанні беларускае мовы і нацыянальнае тоеснасці беларусаў. Сярод звыш 180 публікацый за 1980–2010 гг. аналізуюцца выбраныя артыкулы, у якіх закранаюцца пы¬танні білінгвізму ў Беларусі і звязаныя з гэтым праблемы русіфікацыі беларускае мовы, яе месца ў адукацыйнай сістэме ды ў духоўным жыцці беларусаў, а таксама залежнасці паміж роднаю мовай і нацыянальнай свядомасцю. Аналіз гэтых артыкулаў паказвае, што для публіцыстаў газеты родная мова з’яўляецца важным элементам нацыянальнае тоеснасці. Выконвалі яны адукацыйную ролю, паказваючы гісторыю беларускае мовы і яе ўплыў на станаўленне нацыянальнае тоеснасці і заахвочваючы гэтым сваіх чытачоў да ўжывання роднае мовы ў штодзённым жыцці.

Раскрыта суть польского, украинского и еврейского вопросов в Российской империи.

    The aim of the article was to present the influence of the Russian national architecture on the wooden architecture of the Lublin region, created at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, which was characterized by great distinctiveness. The subject of the work was to show the importance of increased Russification, which touched not only the spheres of social and cultural life, but also architecture.The article analyzes the preserved wooden architecture from the turn of the century in the present-day Lubelskie Region. The starting material used was the available archival materials and documentation prepared for the needs of the provincial conservator of monuments (the card for the records of architectural and construction monuments) and a local inspection was made to prepare photographic documentation of the current state. Characteristic wooden buildings were used as comparative material, built at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century in Samara, Russia. The buildings have a well-documented history and are well researched by local scientists. Additionally, they are kept almost intact. During the research, a comparative method was used for the existing wooden buildings in the Lublin region from the turn of the century with the Russian wooden buildings, mainly in terms of detail and façade decoration. It allowed us to notice the similarities between the details used in traditional wooden construction in the Lublin Province. It is especially visible in the details of the window decorations – richly decorated drip and window sills. It is an element characteristic only for the analyzed period, which confirms the thesis about the influence of the foreign invaders on the shape of architecture.
    Celem artykułu było przedstawienie wpływu architektury narodowej rosyjskiej na drewnianą architekturę Lubelszczyzny powstałą na przełomie XIX i XX w., która charakteryzowała się dużą odrębnością. Przedmiotem pracy było ukazanie znaczenia wzmożonej rusyfikacji, która dotykała nie tylko sfery życia społecznego, kulturalnego, ale także architektury.W artykule dokonano analizy zachowanej architektury drewnianej powstałej na przełomie wieków na terenie obecnego województwa lubelskiego. Jako materiał wyjściowy wykorzystano dostępne materiały archiwalne oraz dokumentację stworzoną na potrzeby wojewódzkiego konserwatora zabytków (karta ewidencji zabytków architektury i budownictwa) oraz dokonano wizji lokalnej w celu przygotowania dokumentacji fotograficznej stanu aktualnego. Jako materiał porównawczy posłużyła charakterystyczna zabudowa drewniana powstała pod koniec XIX i na początku XX w. w Samarze w Rosji. Zabudowa ta ma dobrze udokumentowaną historię oraz jest dobrze zbadana przez lokalnych naukowców. Dodatkowo przetrwała do dziś w stanie prawie nienaruszonym.Podczas badań porównano istniejącą zabudowę drewnianej Lubelszczyzny z przełomu wieków z zabudową drewnianą rosyjską przede wszystkim pod względem detalu i dekoracji fasady. Pozwoliło to na zauważenie podobieństw między detalami stosowanymi w tradycyjnym budownictwie drewnianym na terenie województwa lubelskiego. Szczególnie jest to widoczne w detalu stolarki okiennej – bogato dekorowane nad- i podokienniki. Jest to element charakterystyczny tylko dla badanego okresu, co potwierdza tezę o wpływie zaborcy na kształt architektury.

    The article describes and analyses the Polish language edition of the book Rządy imperialne w Kraju Nadwiślańskim. Królestwo Polskie i cesarstwo rosyjskie by the German historian Malte Rolf. The article confronts the factual layer of the book with the state of research and comments on the presented interpretations. The author draws attention to the cursory treatment of the presence of civil servants, soldiers and Russian priests in the Kingdom and the similarly perfunctory presentation of the educational policy, as well as the complete omission of the liquidation of the Greek Catholic Church and its consequences.
    W artykule opisano i zanalizowano polskojęzyczne wydanie pracy niemieckiego historyka Malte Rolfa pt. Rządy imperialne w Kraju Nadwiślańskim. Królestwo Polskie i cesarstwo rosyjskie. Autor konfrontuje warstwę faktograficzną książki ze stanem badań i odnosi się do przedstawionych interpretacji. Zwraca uwagę na zdawkowe potraktowanie obecności urzędników, żołnierzy i duchownych rosyjskich w Królestwie oraz polityki oświatowej, a także na całkowite pominięcie likwidacji Kościoła greckokatolickiego i jej następstw.

    In Leśna Podlaska, the image of Mother of God has been an object of worship since 1683. In 1727, the Leśna parish was taken over by monks from the Pauline Order. In 1875, on the basis of Tsar Alexander II's decree, the church in Leśna Podlaska, together with the venerated image, the great altar, and votive offerings, were handed over to the Eastern Orthodox Church. The remaining furnishings were transferred to 18 parish churches of the liquidated dioceses of Podlasie and Lublin. The organ was transferred to All Saints Church in Warsaw. The book collection of the Pauline monks from Leśna was donated to the library of the seminary in Lublin. In the years 1879–1881, the exterior of the church was changed, giving the building an appearance characteristic of Orthodox Church temples. Leśna Podlaska became an important centre of Russification policy carried out by Russia.

    The article presents and analyses the content of the monograph by Wiesław Partyka titled Opieka instytucjonalna na Lubelszczyźnie w XIX wieku. Szpitale i przytułki. Attention was drawn to elements such as the structure of the book, assumed chronological and thematic framework, and the source basis. The paper presents research problems that were only mentioned in the monograph, and which seem worth further research. Despite the critique regarding the presentation of the image of hospitals and shelters in the Lublin region, the publication can be seen as immensely valuable and useful for those dealing with social history of the nineteenth and early twentieth century.
    W artykule przedstawiono i poddano analizie zawartość monografii Wiesława Partyki Opieka instytucjonalna na Lubelszczyźnie w XIX wieku. Szpitale i przytułki. Zwrócono w nim uwagę na takie elementy, jak struktura książki, ramy chronologiczne i tematyczne oraz podstawa źródłowa. Zasygnalizowano w nim problemy badawcze, które w książce zostały przedstawione marginalnie, a które wydają się warte dalszych badań naukowych. Pomimo pewnych zastrzeżeń dotyczących przedstawienia obrazu szpitali oraz przytułków na Lubelszczyźnie, publikację tę można uznać za niezwykle cenną i przydatną dla osób zajmujących się historią społeczną XIX i początków XX w.

    On the basis of the analysis of normative legal documents and modern scientific historical literature the peculiarities of the action of total Russification on the events of modern history of Ukraine are determined. At the time of the policy of Ukrainization, Russification attacks had somewhat weakened their activity, compared to the Valuev Circular and the Ems Decree. During the period of Soviet Ukraine, Russification developed quite strongly: this was facilitated by the full Russification of the army throughout the USSR, the educational policy of the Soviet Union, the peculiarities of personnel policy for the distribution of jobs to young professionals after graduating from secondary special and higher education.Beginning in 1970, the scientific world of all the then republics of the Union was also Russified - because all dissertation defenses were approved in Moscow, and abstracts were allowed to be published only in Russian. Meanwhile, the Russian language is becoming more and more popular. The Soviet policy of Russification in Ukraine can be called a weapon of slow action, which after decades of its planned action has achieved its actual result - a war in which completely innocent people die. The cult of the so-called “Soviet man” was formed throughout the existence of the USSR. This formation was especially successful on the territory of our Ukraine.Over time, this led to certain signs of erasure of the national self-identification of the Ukrainian people and the formation of a dual mentality. The policy of our pro-presidential parties fully confirms this. At the time of the collapse of the Soviet Union on the territory of our Ukraine, the majority of the population were Ukrainian-speaking Ukrainians and slightly fewer Russian-speaking Ukrainians. But neither the highestranking politicians nor the vast majority of society considered this to be a significant problem. A significant number of Russian-speaking Ukrainians and, on the eve of Russian military aggression, the majority of Ukrainian citizens are overly tolerant of the Russian-speaking phenomenon in Ukraine. The existence of the so-called dual mentality in modern Ukraine – pro-Western (European) and Eastern (pro-Moscow) with the appropriate cultural characteristics. You need to take into account that.The fact that the nation is aging in Ukraine, and there were more pro-Moscow mentality since independence, so there were always enough representatives of pro-Russian parties in the Verkhovna Rada. The language laws approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine during its entire existence are a direct confirmation of this fact. From the point of view of the civilization approach, the view of foreign researchers (historians, publicists, sociologists, political scientists) on the problem of Russification of the Ukrainian people within the Soviet Union and at the time of independence is important
    На основі аналізу нормативних правових документів та сучасної наукової історичної літератури визначено особливості дії тотальної русифікації на події сучасної історії України. На час проведення політики українізації русифікаційні напади дещо послабили свою активність, порівняно з Валуївським циркуляром та Емським указом. За період Радянської України русифікація розвивалася досить потужно: цьому сприяли повна русифікація армії у всьому СРСР, освітня політика Радянського Союзу, особливості кадрової політики розподілу робочих місць молодим спеціалістам після закінчення середніх спеціальних та вищих навчальних закладів. Починаючи з 1970 р. науковий світ усіх тодішніх республік Союзу теж русифікувався – бо всі захисти дисертацій затверджувалися у Москві, а автореферати дозволялося публікувати тільки російською мовою. А російська мова тим часом все більше популяризується. Радянську політику русифікації на Україні цілком можна назвати зброєю сповільненої дії, яка через десятиліття своєї планомірної дії досягла свого фактичного результату – війни, у якій гинуть абсолютно невинні люди. Культ так званої «радянської людини» формувався протягом всього періоду існування СРСР. Особливо успішним це формування виявилося на території нашої України. З плином часу це призвело до певних ознак стирання національної самоідентифікації українського народ та до формування подвійної ментальності. Політика наших пропрезидентських партій повністю це підтверджує. На момент розпаду Радянського Союзу на території нашої України більшість населення становили україномовні українці та дещо менше було російськомовних українців. Але за суттєву проблему це ні політики найвищого рангу, ні переважна більшість суспільства не вважали. Значна кількість українців російськомовних та станом на переддень військової російської агресії переважно занадто толерантне ставлення більшості українських громадян до явища російськомовності в Україні. Існування так званої подвійної ментальності в сучасній Україні - прозахідного (європейського) спрямування та східний (промосковський) з відповідними культурними характеристиками. Враховувати потрібно і той факт, що на Україні відбувається старіння нації, і носіїв промосковського типу ментальності було за часи незалежності більше, тому представників проросійських партій завжди було достатньо у Верховній Раді. Ті мовні закони, які затверджувала Верховна Рада України за весь час її існування є прямим підтвердженням цього факту. З точки зору цивілізаційного підходу є важливим погляд іноземних дослідників (істориків, публіцистів, соціологів, політологів) на проблему русифікації українського народу у складі Радянського Союзу та у часи незалежності.

The author explores the role and place of national-patriotic issues in Ukrainian cinematography, shows the ideological enslavement of filmmakers, studies the conditions of creative self-realization in the Ukrainian SSR, and analyses the influence of social and political factors on the cultural sphere of Ukrainian people in the outlined period. The representatives of Ukrainian cinema has always tried to popularize national features of their own people, but in the specified period, for censorship reasons, Ukrainian cinema began to be prohibited. The main reason is the struggle with the so-called “Ukrainian bourgeois nationalism”. For such an accusation it was enough to voice any film in Ukrainian and to fill its content with Ukrainian subjects. The characteristic features of Ukrainian cinematography of the 1960s – the early 1970s are as follows: subordination to the Soviet centralized command-administrative system, total control of the CPSU – CPU, russification, denationalization, persecution of all Ukrainian values under the pretext of forming a united Soviet nation.

    Opis:
    This article examines the Soviet policy of ideologization and, russification of the cultural and educational space of the Ukrainian nation in the late 1950s – 1960s and characterizes the formation and development of the movement of the Sixtiers. Despite the comprehensive control of the Soviet totalitarian state over human thinking, the young creative Ukrainian activist continued to be a living intellectual force that was able to adequately analyze socio-political processes in Ukraine and sought radical change in society at that time. This period was marked by the emergence of the Sixtiers – a new generation of Ukrainian national intelligentsia, who defended the national language, education and culture, freedom of artistic creativity. Despite the difficult socio-political circumstances of the time, a significant cultural progress took place in the creative life of the Ukrainian SSR, saturated with a diverse range of views, ideas and aspirations. In Ukraine, there was an irreversible process of national self-determination of Ukrainians through the cultural and educational space. Nonconformist sentiments in Ukrainian environment began a gradual transition to new democratic norms and standards in the life of the Ukrainian nation.
    В данной статье исследуется советская политика идеологизации, русификации культурно-образовательного пространства украинской нации конца 1950-х – 1960-х гг. и характеризуется становление и развертывание движения шестидесятников. Несмотря на всеобъемлющий контроль советского тоталитарного государства над мышлением человека, молодой творческий украинский актив продолжал оставаться той живой интеллектуальной силой, которая была способна адекватно анализировать общественно-политические процессы в Украине и стремилась к кардинальным изменениям в обществе того времени. Очерченный период ознаменовался появлением шестидесятников – нового поколения украинской национальной интеллигенции, выступившей в защиту национального языка, образования и культуры, свободы искусства. Вопреки сложным тогдашним общественно-политическим обстоятельствам в творческой жизни УССР произошло заметное культурное продвижение, насыщенное разнообразным спектром взглядов, идей и стремлений. В Украине проходил необратимый процесс национального самоопределения украинцев через культурно-образовательное пространство. Нонконформистские настроения в украинской среде положили начало постепенному переходу к новым демократическим нормам и стандартам жизни украинской нации.

    Rusyfikacja języka białoruskiego to jeden z głównych językoznawczych tematów podejmowanych na lamach czasopisma „Zapisy” wydawanego przez Białoruski Instytut Nauki i Sztuki w Nowym Jorku. Autorem wielu publikacji poświęconych tej problematyce był Stanisław Stankiewicz. Autor opisał najważniejsze postanowienia, etapy i sposoby rusyfikacji języka białoruskiego, która przebiegała w dwóch kierunkach: 1. w kierunku zawężenia sfery używania języka białoruskiego w życiu publicznym i zastąpienia go językiem rosyjskim; 2. w kierunku wszechstronnej rusyfikacji białoruskiego języka literackiego. Polityka językowa, poczynając od lat 30. XX wieku prowadziła do zniszczenia bariery między językiem białoruskim i rosyjskim. W wyniku reformy w 1933 roku wprowadzono do języka białoruskiego około 30 fonetycznych i morfologicznych osobliwości języka rosyjskiego. Natomiast rosyjska leksyka zalewała język białoruski w sposób nie zadekretowany, lecz w drodze „dobrowolnych zapożyczeń w celu wzbogacenia języka białoruskiego”. Największe niebezpieczeństwo stwarzają rosyjskie konstrukcje składniowe oraz wyrażenia idiomatyczne, które burzą strukturę języka białoruskiego. Rusyfikacja szybko doprowadziła do hegemonii języka rosyjskiego we wszystkich sferach życia publicznego na Białorusi. Proces ten, niestety, trwa nadal w formalnie niepodległej i suwerennej Republice Białoruś.

    Opis:
    In the nineteenth century the primary function of school involved educating students, in most cases mechanically, with a limited range of knowledge. The first, often ultimate stage, included instruction on reading, writing and basic arithmetical operations. Learning those skills was enough during the period under consideration within the area of Bialystok district to be recognized an “enlightened person”. Central authorities in Petersburg aimed at promoting, through the schools, knowledge of the state language, components of Russian culture and the most important events in the time of the Romanovs. A primary educational objective was making students loyal in relation to the existing socio-political system. In the opinion of local community, Russian elementary public schools were considered a foreign and unwanted entity. This was mainly the result of the historical occurrences, although not exclusively. Partly, this unwillingness was due to the fact that the central authorities relinquished the costs of schools maintenance to the local people depriving them, at the same time, of the influence on their functioning.
    В девятнадцатом столетии основная функция школы заключалась в передаче учащимся, обычно механическим прикладным способом, определенного объема знаний. Первый әтап, часто он же и последний, заканчивался на обучении чтению, письму и простейших арифметических действий. Освоение указанных умений хватало для того, чтобы в описываемом периоде на территории белостокского повета считаться «просвещенным человеком». Центральная власть в Петербурге при помощи школ стремилась к популяризации государственного языка, русской культуры и ознакомлению с самыми важными событиями в истории Империи Романовых. Главной воспитательной целью считалось умение сформировать у учащихся лояльного отношения к существующей общественно-политической системе. Для локальной общественности русские публичные начальные школы являлись чуждыми и нежеланными. Әто являлось последствием исторических событий, хотя и не только. Иногда такое отношение появлялось на основании того, что власти перекладывали на плечи местного населения содержание таких школ, одновременно лишая жителей возможности влиять на их функционирование.

    В статье осуществлена попытка определения и анализа внутренних и внешних факторов, связанных с вопросом автокефалии Белорусской Православной Церкви в годы Второй мировой войны и в послевоенные три десятилетия. Одним из таких факторов следует считать непоследовательность представителей бывшего епископата БАПЦ в Минске (прежде всего архиепископа Афанасия Мартоса и архиепископа Филафея Нарко), как впрочем и белорусских национальных элит в вопросе автокефалии Белорусской Православной Церкви и путей ее осуществления.
    The article “Archbishop Athanasius Martas and the Autocephaly of the Belarusian Orthodox Church” attempts to identify and analyze internal and external factors related to the issue of autocephaly of the Belarusian Orthodox Church during the Second World War and in the three decades after the war.One of these factors is considered to be the inconsistency of the representatives of the former episcopate of the BAOC in Minsk (first of all, Archbishop Athanasius Martas and Archbishop Philafei Narko) as well as the Belarusian national political elites in the issue of the autocephaly of the Belarusian Orthodox Church and the ways of its implementation.
    W artykule podjęto próbę zidentyfikowania i analizy wewnętrznych i zewnętrznych czynników związanych z kwestią autokefalii Białoruskiego Kościoła Prawosławnego w okresie II wojny światowej iw trzech dekadach powojennych. Za jeden z tych czynników należy uznać niekonsekwencję przedstawicieli b. episkopatu Białoruskiego Kościoła Prawosławnego w Mińsku (przede wszystkim arcybiskupa Atanazego Martosa i arcybiskupa Filafeusza Narko) oraz białoruskich elit narodowych w kwestii autokefalii białoruskiego Cerkiew prawosławna i sposoby jej realizacji.

    У артыкуле аналізуецца зьява моўнага сораму сярод беларусаў з сацыя-лінгвістычнага пункту гледжаньня. Тэма новая ў беларускай сацыялінгвістыцы і мовазнаўстве наагул, бо раней тэма разглядалася пераважна як проста маргіналізацыя мовы. Дасьледаваньне моўнага сораму базуецца пераважна на беларускім матэрыяле: аналіз твораў беларускіх пісьменьнікаў, якія апісвалі зьяву раней за лінгвістаў, аналіз дыскурсу прэзыдэнта Беларусі аб беларускай мове і інтэрвію зь беларускімі мужчынамі, якія служылі ў войску за савецкім часам. Інтэрвію якраз раскрываюць цікавы гендарны аспэкт зьявы моўнага сораму: упершыню аналізуецца савецкае войска як дадатковая структура, якая навязвала беларускім мужчынам со-рам да сваёй мовы і культуры. Таксама дасьледаваньне абапіраецца на вонкавы досьвед падобнай зьявы: напрыклад, вядомы фэномэн auto-odi ці моўнай саманянавісьці каталёнцаў ды моўны сорам украінцаў.
    W artykule poddano analizie zjawisko wstydu językowego wśród Białorusinów w aspekcie socjolingwistycznym. Jest to zagadnienie nowe zarówno w socjolingwistyce jak i językoznawstwie. Wcześniej zjawisko to traktowano jako marginalizację języka. Badanie wstydu językowego opiera się głownie na materiale białoruskim: analizie utworów pisarzy białoruskich, którzy wcześniej niż lingwiści dostrzegali problem, analizie dyskursu prezydenta Białorusi dotyczącego języka białoruskiego i wywiadach z Białorusinami, którzy służyli w wojsku w okresie istnienia ZSRR. Wywiady dokładnie ukazują także interesujący genderowy aspekt zjawiska wstydu językowego: po raz pierwszy analizie poddano wojsko radzieckie jako dodatkową strukturę, która wzbudzała wśród Białorusinów poczucie wstydu do języka ojczystego i kultury. Badanie oparto także na zewnętrznym doświadczeniu podobnego zjawiska: na przykład znany fenomen auto-odi, czy językowej nienawiści Katalończyków i wstydu językowego Ukraińców.
    The article analyzes the phenomenon of linguistic shame among Belarusians from the sociolinguistic point of view. The topic is new in Belarusian socio¬linguistics and linguistics in general, as it was previously was considered mainly as a mere marginalization of the language. The study of linguistic shame is based mainly on Belarusian material: analysis of works by Belarusian writers who described the phenomenon before linguists, analysis of the Belarusian president's discourse on the Belarusian language and interviews with Belarusian men who served in the Sovietera army. The interview reveals an interesting gender aspect of the phenomenon of linguistic shame: for the first time the Soviet army is analyzed as an additional structure that imposed shame on Belarusian men for their language and culture. Also, the study is based on external experiences of this phenomenon: for example, the well-known phenomenon of auto-odi or linguistic hate of oneself of Catalans or linguistic shame of Ukrainians.
