Opis:: Gospodarstwa agroturystyczne, często postrzegane jako wizytówka wsi, proponując atrakcje turystyczne powinny stanowić ostoję tradycyjnych założeń kompozycyjnych. Z tego powodu niezbędne jest ponowne przemyślenie problematyki aranżowania ogrodów, w których prowadzona jest działalność agroturystyczna. Jest to tym bardziej istotne, gdyż aktualnie obserwuje się zanik tradycyjnego charakteru ogrodów wiejskich, a gospodarstwa agroturystyczne mogą być szansą na ich zachowanie.
Agritourism farms often seen as a village 'postcard', should be a bastion of tradition (considered as traditional principles of composition), while offering wide range of outdoor activities. For this reason, it is necessary to notice the huge role of garden arrangement. This is important, because currently it is observed that the traditional rural character of the gardens disappears. The article proves that traditional rural gardens can be preserved as a part of agritourism farms.

Opis:: Investigations on an arrangement of ten rural gardens in Naprawa village near Jordanów were based on inquiry method and local inspection of the gardens with an inventory of ornamental plants used for the arrangement. All gardens were established after construction of new houses. All, with the exception of one, were managed by women of 20 to 55 years old. Half of the garden owners work in different professions, the rest work at their home farms. The owners pay particular particular attention to the esthetical appearance of their gardens. Only two of the gardens were unattractive. Expansion and arrangement of new borders were observed in ten gardens. However in one garden, the expansion of lawn was at the cost of ornamental plants. Non of the gardens visited were arranged in the rural gardening tradition, except in two cases which were partially traditional. Analysis of the plants used for planting in the gardens indicate low use of annual plants in spite of biennials and no hardy perennials. Borders were planted most often with perennials using mainly native species which flower in spring time. Apart from typical, traditionally recommended species for planting in rural gardens, several new ones were introduced, which are not often used in these kinds of arrangements, with disregard for many traditional, very valuable ornamental plants.

Opis:: The Przemyśl region belongs to the most magnificent places in the south-east of Poland, its attractions being varied landscape, clean natural environment, fertile soils as well as many monuments, as witnesses to such rich history of this region. It was possible to keep these values of a natural-landscape because the fundamental source of maintenance are here family - run country farms. Taking into consideration the above statements, we decided to carry out studies in the Przemyśl region in view of changes in the composition of traditional rural gardens. Observations were made in selected rural gardens of two localities - in Kniażyce (an area situated near Przemyśl) and in Grzęska (an area near Przeworsk). The group under investigation consisted of 22 objects. Studies involved: estimation of the farm-house condition and sociological questionnaire with garden owners. On the grounds of these studies and observations made in Przemyśl region, we can conclude that there are many traditional rural gardens kept. The reason for this is that in the last decades changes in the composition of gardens arrived gradually, therefore they are still composed according to the local tradition of cultivated plants. Rural gardens can be divided into three types: ornamental garden, flower-fruit-vegetables garden and decorative-recreation garden. In these gardens many traditional plant species are still grown, which for centuries have created the Polish country landscape in Przemyśl area. The neighbour exchange is, as it was before, a predominant form of getting plants. Today, like in former times women take care of rural gardens. They also spend a lot of their free time looking after their gardens, because they love flowers and treat this time as an active recreation.

Opis:: This study was conducted to determine the differences between a group of 77 contemporary home gardens and traditional country gardens in selected rural areas of the Lublin region. Contemporary gardens mostly differed from traditional country gardens in the spatial arrangements, diversity of species, and to a lesser extent, the use of ornamental plant species. There was, however, a difference in the main purpose of the gardens, having changed from being simply ornamental to recreational. Front gardens also changed from public spaces to closed spaces. An average of 25% of the gardens studied – with Hrubieszów county having the largest proportion of 50% – fully resembled traditional country gardens, while the rest differed considerably. There was, however, at least one or more features of a traditional country style in each garden.

Opis:: W dzisiejszych czasach, w otoczeniu zabudowy, radykalnym przemianom ulega coraz częściej znajdująca się w najbliższym otoczeniu zieleń. Tendencje jej kształtowania wzorowane są na standardach ogrodów miejskich czy podmiejskich, zgodnych być może z panującą modą, ale nienawiązujących w żaden sposób do cech krajobrazu wiejskiego. W związku z tym, czy nadal możemy mówić o tradycyjnych ogrodach wiejskich? Czy może w dobie globalizacji granica między tym co wiejskie a tym co miejskie zaciera się coraz bardziej? Niniejszy artykuł, na przykładzie dwóch dolnośląskich miejscowości – laureatów konkursu „Piękna Wieś Dolnośląska 2012 i 2013”, ma na celu przedstawienie współczesnych tendencji kształtowania frontowych ogrodów wiejskich. W pracy, na podstawie badań terenowych, przeanalizowano sposoby zagospodarowania przedogródków na ponad 600 działkach siedliskowych, wykazano formy ich aranżacji oraz dominujące gatunki roślin.

Opis:: The practice of homestead vegetable gardening has gained importance due to the increasing rate of rural poverty in developing countries. Keyhole garden is not yet a particularly common variant of home gardens but it is becoming popular globally in both developing and developed countries due to its unique benefits related to sustainable farming practices. The main objective of the study is to determine factors that influence the food security of rural farmers in Lesotho utilising keyhole gardeners in Leribe district in Lesotho. The study used a purposive sampling method to select a sample of 110 respondents. Descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression models were used for data analysis. The majority of households (65.45%) never skipped a meal and were food secure however, 27.27% sometimes skipped meals, and 7% skipped meals frequently. The study findings indicated that keyhole gardens influence food security since they boost food supplies, generate income and help in the reduction of food bills. The results of the study showed that age (p < 0.01), marital status (p < 0.05), household size (p < 0.10), market information (p < 0.05), donations (p < 0.01) and access to inputs (p < 0.01) influence the food security of keyhole garden farmers in the study area. The study recommends that agriculture civil service workers should receive training on keyhole gardens so that they can transfer the knowledge and skills to rural farmers to increase the awareness of, and the participation in, keyhole gardening and ultimately influence household food security.

Opis:: The authors used three example variants of rural development solutions to present the problem of defining the space of the contemporary countryside gardens of small, local parish communities in the former GDR, taking into consideration its integrative function. The three design subjects pre-sented in the paper (each developed with two variants) concern spatial arrangement of a parish garden as a public space for: community meetings and recreation (example 1 - fig. 1, 2), studying and recreation (example 2 - fig. 3,4), and relaxation/ meditation (example 3 - fig. 5, 6). All of them in the same attempt to organize space of wastelands; areas devastated culturally and naturally, but still important in the spatial structure of the town. The relations between the presented places local their use by local parish communities served as an impulse to define the fundamental, conceptual presumptions that let the presented composition suggestions take into account their timeless role of humanization of open space, with their potential standard of usage. One essential value of the presented examples is their practical potential - expected investment decisions after their public presentation to entire local communities (with declared support).

Opis:: Spatial shape is a result of a many years process which is influenced by a set of natural and cultural conditions which mix together. Shaping a village is firstly a period of building inhabitants and farming buildings, next symbols of cult and religion appear and together with development of the set, enrichment and development of inhabitants of the village, the spatial set was decorated and completed by plants for beauty and necessity. In rural areas, various forms of greenery were created in the past and their influence on the landscape can be found. Parks which used to be situated near palaces and churches, cemeteries, lane sets, midfield trees, fire brigade stations, farm yard trees and gardens next to houses, which are the subject of this article are among them. Traditional village gardens contain some characteristic which have not changed - many decorative plants grow on a small space and therefore a great variety of colours and shapes appear which attract passers-by attention and are in a way a visit card of a household. An important element of a garden composition are also fences usually from natural materials which constitute a boarder of a possession. There are many places in the area of Poland where nature and village settlements coexist and creating unrepeatable character. It is most important to preserve those historical rural sets and nursing their traditional elements both in macro and micro scale, as well as to continue customs of our ancestors as the historically shaped village areas which survived despite progressing changes are cultural heritage which provides the sense of unity and stability in the world of continuing changes.
