Opis:: In recent years, devolved governments in Kenya have been offering semi-formal credit programs to rural households. Despite the key role of this type of credit in enhancing the welfare of rural household welfare, little is known on determinants of rural farm household participation in the credit programs. Therefore, this study sought to identify factors influencing farmers’ participation in the semi-formal credit program in Kakamega county. The study used a multi-stage sampling approach to gather data from 179 respondents. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics and a probit model. The results indicated that the semi-formal credit accessed by rural farm households was allocated to both on-farm and off-farm enterprises. Also, factors that significantly influenced household participation in the semi-formal credit included farming experience, occupation of household head, group membership, distance to credit source, distance to the nearest market, and access to financial training. Based on the study results, policymakers and other stakeholders should offer financial training, thus enhancing farmers’ productivity and promoting their participation in semi-formal credit programs. Also, they need to encourage farmers to join socio-economic groups and engage in sustainable off-farm activities.

Opis:: A comparative analysis, using the classification tree method, of typically agritourism and agriculturally inactive farms has been conducted in this paper. An interview questionnaire, carried out on 78 farms, has been applied as a research tool.According to the research, typically agritourism farms evaluated the quality of their own services more positively. However, these factors did not influence the improvement of offer standards. Perhaps they had to invest more often in the development of farms rather than focus on improving the sanitary and hygiene infrastructure. The residential buildings may have not been adapted to undergo redevelopment in that respect. Agriculturally inactive households rarely broadened their knowledge in order to improve accommodation conditions. They had higher standards regardless of the level of hosts' qualifications. Presumably, hosts who focus mainly on agritourism are more likely to improve accommodation conditions. They basically do not have to pay expenses that would be incurred by agricultural activity. The application of the classification tree method has allowed to observe that high self-evaluation of services provided does not always have to result in better sanitary equipment of rooms or possession of living rooms. The method has made it possible to present the examined factors in a simple graphical manner, thus allowing to notice differences between typically agritourism farms and agriculturally inactive farms.

Opis:: This paper presents analysis of differentiation of income situation of 528 family farms included in the farm accounting system in 1993-1997.
Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy jest analiza kształtowania się poziomu i struktury dochodów gospodarstw rolnych w pierwszej dekadzie transformacji ustrojowej i gospodarczej. Badaniami objęto stałą (tzw. powtarzalną) zbiorowość 528 indywidualnych gospodarstw rolnych prowadzących w latach 1993-1997 ewidencję danych pod nadzorem Instytutu Ekonomiki Rolnictwa i Gospodarki Żywnościowej w Warszawie (IERiGŻ). Zbiorowość tę poddano podziałowi na grupy według struktury dochodów określonej przez dochody z: gospodarstwa rolniczego, działalności pozarolniczej, zarobkowania poza gospodarstwem, świadczeń socjalnych, odsetek i innych źródeł. W wyniku wstępnej analizy materiału źródłowego badane gospodarstwa podzielono na sześć grup zróżnicowanych ze względu na strukturę dochodów:I - gospodarstwa o wyraźnej przewadze dochodu z działalności rolniczej w dochodach ogółem (gospodarstwa rolnicze);II - gospodarstwa uzyskujące porównywalne dochody z działalności rolniczej oraz świadczeń socjalnych (gospodarstwa rolniczo-socjalne);III - gospodarstwa uzyskujące porównywalne dochody z działalności rolniczej oraz pracy zarobkowej poza rolnictwem (gospodarstwa rolniczo-zarobkowe);IV - gospodarstwa o wyraźnej przewadze dochodu z pracy zarobkowej poza rolnictwem (gospodarstwa zarobkowe);V - gospodarstwa o strukturze dochodów silnie zdeterminowanej przez świadczenia socjalne (gospodarstwa socjalne);VI - gospodarstwa, w których sytuację materialną wyznaczają świadczenia socjalne oraz pozarolnicze zarobkowanie (gospodarstwa socjalno-zarobkowe).
