Opis:
Real life data sets often suffer from missing data. The neuro-rough-fuzzy systems proposed hitherto often cannot handle such situations. The paper presents a neuro-fuzzy system for data sets with missing values. The proposed solution is a complete neuro-fuzzy system. The system creates a rough fuzzy model from presented data (both full and with missing values) and is able to elaborate the answer for full and missing data examples. The paper also describes the dedicated clustering algorithm. The paper is accompanied by results of numerical experiments.

Opis:
Selection is a key element of the cartographic generalisation process, often being its first stage. On the other hand it is a component of other generalisation operators, such as simplification. One of the approaches used in generalization is the condition-action approach. The author uses a condition-action approach based on three types of rough logics (Rough Set Theory (RST), Dominance-Based Rough Set Theory (DRST) and Fuzzy-Rough Set Theory (FRST)), checking the possibility of their use in the process of selecting topographic objects (buildings, roads, rivers) and comparing the obtained results. The complexity of the decision system (the number of rules and their conditions) and its effectiveness are assessed, both in terms of quantity and quality – through visual assessment. The conducted research indicates the advantage of the DRST and RST approaches (with the CN2 algorithm) due to the quality of the obtained selection, the greater simplicity of the decision system, and better refined IT tools enabling the use of these systems. At this stage, the FRST approach, which is characterised by the highest complexity of created rules and the worst selection results, is not recommended. Particular approaches have limitations resulting from the need to select appropriate measurement scales for the attributes used in them. Special attention should be paid to the selection of network objects, in which the use of only a condition-action approach, without maintaining consistency of the network, may not produce the desired results. Unlike approaches based on classical logic, rough approaches allow the use of incomplete or contradictory information. The proposed tools can (in their current form) find an auxiliary use in the selection of topographic objects, and potentially also in other generalisation operators.

Opis:
A differential gene expressional network determines the prominent genes under altered phenotypes. The traditional approach requires n(n − 2)/2 comparisons for n phenotypes. We present a direct method for determining a differentia network under multiple phenotypes. We explore the non-discrete nature of gene expression as a pattern in a fuzzy rough set. An edge between a pair of genes represents a positive region of a fuzzy similarity relationship upon a phenotypic change. We apply a weight-ranking formula and obtain a directed ranked network; we label this as a phenotype interwoven network. Those nodes with large in-degree connectivity bubble up as significant genes under respective phenotypic changes. We tested the method on six diseases and achieved good corroboration with the results of previous studies in the two-step approach. The subgraphs of the isolated genes achieved good significance upon validation through an information theoretic approach. The top-ranking genes determined in all of our case studies are in consonance with the findings of the respective wet-lab tests.

Opis:
Every event has an extent in time, which is usually described by crisp time intervals. However, under some circumstances, temporal extents of events are imperfect, and therefore cannot be adequately modelled by crisp time intervals. Rough sets and fuzzy sets are two frequently used tools for representing imperfect temporal information. In this paper, we apply a two-dimensional representation of crisp time intervals, which is called the Triangular Model (TM), to investigate rough time intervals (RTIs) and fuzzy time intervals (FTIs). With this model, RTIs and FTIs, as well as their temporal relations, can be represented as graphics (i.e. discrete geometries or continuous fields) in a two-dimensional time space. Compared to the traditional linear representation of time intervals, we found that TM provides a more compact and clearer representation of imperfect time intervals and relations. Moreover, temporal queries of imperfect intervals can be graphically addressed in TM, which is closer to human intuition than mathematical expressions. As human minds are more efficient in perceiving and processing graphic representations than numerical representations, we believe TM can be applied as a valuable assistant tool for analysing and reasoning about imperfect time intervals.

Opis:
Agile development is a crucial issue within software engineering because one of the goals of any project leader is to increase the speed and flexibility in the development of new commercial products. In this sense, project managers must find the best resource configuration for each of the work packages necessary for the management of software development processes in order to keep the team motivated and committed to the project and to improve productivity and quality. This paper presents ReSySTER, a hybrid recommender system based on fuzzy logic, rough set theory and semantic technologies, aimed at helping project leaders to manage software development projects. The proposed system provides a powerful tool for project managers supporting the development process in Scrum environments and helping to form the most suitable team for different work packages. The system has been evaluated in a real scenario of development with the Scrum framework obtaining promising results.

Opis:
The paper is devoted to the problem of mining graph data. The goal of this process is to discover possibly certain sequences appearing in data. Both rough set flow graphs and fuzzy flow graphs are used to represent sequences of items originally arranged in tables representing information systems. Information systems are considered in the Pawlak sense, as knowledge representation systems. In the paper, an approach involving ant based clustering is proposed. We show that ant based clustering can be used not only for building possible large groups of similar objects, but also to build larger structures (in our case, sequences) of objects to obtain or preserve the desired properties.

Opis:
Proposed model identifies taxpayers on the basis of their features and properties that point to bigger possibility of taxation law observance problems. Model eliminates weaknesses of well known classification algorithms, as well as expert systems and taxpayers typing assists applications used wildly in tax offices. It is possible because of designing hybrid model that reflects well behavior of payers. Applying modern concepts in model predisposes it for future implementation of software solution that can be used in taxation administration.
