Opis:
The article discusses the results of simulation-based and experimental research carried out on gas foil bearings. Owing to the use of a set of flexible thin foils in such bearings, they exhibit certain beneficial features that cannot be found in other types of bearings. They have nonlinear operational characteristics and allow the dissipation of excess energy, thus reducing the vibration level. Moreover, gas foil bearings can self-adapt themselves to the current operating conditions by changing the shape of the lubrication gap. Therefore, they can be used to improve the dynamic performance of rotors, in particular, those operating at very high rotational speeds. This article explains the mechanisms for changes of stiffness and vibration damping in compliant components of a foil bearing. The results of the analysis of the bearing’s subassemblies using advanced numerical models are presented. They are followed by conclusions that were drawn not only from these results but also from the results of the experimental research. It has been proven that the rotor supported on carefully designed foil bearings is capable of maintaining a low vibration level, even if it operates at a high rotational speed.

Opis:
The paper presents modelling process and results of the bench tests of the C0-45, which is a turbocharger for heavy-duty diesel engines. For turbochargers like this, it is necessary to measure the level of vibration. This paper presents the test results for 115 turbochargers. Rotor speed during the tests varied between 25,000 and 42,000 rpm. Rotor speed during the tests on a C0-45 turbocharger varied within three ranges, i.e., Range I: n=25,000÷32,000 rpm and a=0.5g; Range II: n=33,000÷38,000 rpm and a=1.0g; Range III: n=39,000÷42,000 rpm and a=1.5g; (g=9.81m/s2). Measurement of vibrations was realized by a sensor located on the body of the turbocharger. Bench tests also included measurement of key charge parameters such as the amount of mass trapped, mean flow velocities, turbulence level, gas pressure, temperature and oil flow. The results are presented in the form of diagrams showing the amplitude of the acceleration function with regard to the rotor’s RPM. Research shows that using the correct parameters in construction and technological processes of assembly are very important for the effective functioning turbochargers.

Opis:
This article presents a new development of an indirect stator flux-oriented controller for sensorless speed induction motor drive utilising instantaneous and steady-state values, respectively, of a fictitious resistance symbolised as R_f. The dimension of the fictitious quantity, in this context, is the ohm, which is the difference between the stator d- and q-axis fictitious resistances. However, from the measurement of the stator voltage and currents of the machine, two independent resistance estimators are built. Therefore, the first is considered as a reference model of the induction machine (IM), and the second is considered as an adjustable model. Subsequently, the error between the states of the two models is used to drive a suitable adaptation mechanism that generates the estimation of the speed, for the adjustable model. Furthermore, the structure of the proposed estimator is free from stator resistance and eliminates the requirement of any flux computation. All the detailed simulation study is carried out in MATLAB/Simulink to validate the proposed method and to highlight the robustness and the stability of the proposed model reference adaptive system estimator.

Opis:
A sensorless indirect stator-flux-oriented control (ISFOC) induction motor drive at very low frequencies is presented herein. The model reference adaptive system (MRAS) scheme is used to estimate the speed and the rotor resistance simultaneously. However, the error between the reference and the adjustable models, which are developed in the stationary stator reference frame, is used to drive a suitable adaptation mechanism that generates the estimates of speed and the rotor resistance from the stator voltage and the machine current measurements. The stator flux components in the stationary reference frame are estimated through a pure integration of the back electro-motive force (EMF) of the machine. When the machine is operated at low speed, the pure integration of the back EMF introduces an error in flux estimation which affects the performance torque and speed control. To overcome this problem, pure integration is replaced with a programmable cascaded low-pass filter (PCLPF). The stability analysis method of the MRAS estimator is verified in order to show the robustness of the rotor resistance variations. Experimental results are presented to prove the effectiveness and validity of the proposed scheme of sensorless ISFOC induction motor drive.

Opis:
It is proposed to apply direct electric drive (DED) based on synchronous machines with permanent magnets (PMSM) to drive of five-section low-floor tram. Given the limited size of the motor and its required overload capacity, based on the results of computer modeling of 2D magnetic field, the magnetization curve of machines was obtained and virtual computer model of PMSM was created in MATLAB/Simulink taking into account magnetic saturation of the machine. In vehicle cart designed especially for low-floor trams, the space for installation of 4 motor-wheels with DED is limited. Therefore it is impossible to use continuous angular sensor of the rotor position, which would facilitate smooth shape of electromagnetic torque. That is why Tyree Hall sensors are used. To prevent pulsation of electromagnetic torque, which would lead to rapid wearing of tram wheels’ rims, hybrid observer is applies. This observer calculates angular speed and trigonometric functions sin and cos of rotor position angle on the basis of discrete Hall sensors signals. For the study of developed two-zone speed control system of PMSM of DED, the computer model that simulates the work of a digital control system was created. Using the model, series of experiments were conducted. They showed the efficiency of the applied approach.

Different buried permanent magnet arrangements in rotors are compared based on electrical machines found in literature regarding high-speed capability. An analytical approach is presented to analytically calculate mechanical stresses in the bilateral and central bridge of V arrangements in order to determine the achievable circumferential velocity of a rotor geometry. The mechanical model is coupled to an analytical model which can determine the flux density in the main air gap under consideration of flux leakage within the rotor. The multi-domain model enables the analytical design of high-speed rotors with buried permanent magnets in V-arrangement.

In the article, the analytical dependences of modelling the cell cross-sectional area between two adjacent blades of a rotary blade pump and capacity for a pump with fixed and rotating stators are given, and analytical dependences are derived to model the power necessary to overcome the friction forces of the blades. The forces acting on the radially placed blade of a rotary pump with a fixed stator (non-rotating or stationary) and a rotating stator are analyzed. Design and technological parameters that influence the pump capacity and power are taken into account. The power required for the movement of the pump blade without taking into account the compression of the air has the opposite character of the change as to the pump capacity The capacity of a rotary pump with a rotating stator is three times higher than that of a stationary stator. The rotary pump with a rotating stator, with six radially spaced blades, consumes 0.854 [kW] less power to overcome the blade friction of 1313 kW The results of modelling of the pump work are given.
