Opis:
One of the most critical problems in all practical systems is the presence of uncertainties, internal and external disturbances, as well as disturbing noise, which makes the control of the system a challenging task. Another challenge with the physical systems is the possibility of cyber-attacks that the system’s cyber security against them is a critical issue. The systems related to oil and gas industries may also be subjected to cyber-attacks. The subsets of these industries can be mentioned to the oil and gas transmission industry, where ships have a critical role. This paper uses the Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT) method to design a robust controller for the ship course system, aiming towards desired trajectory tracking. The proposed controller is robust against all uncertainties, internal and external disturbances, noise, and various possible Deception, Stealth, and Denial-of-Service (DOS) attacks. The robust controller for the ship system is designed using the QFT method and the QFTCT toolbox in MATLAB software. Numerical simulations are performed in MATLAB/Simulink for two case studies with disturbances and attacks involving intermittent sinusoidal and random behavior to demonstrate the proposed controller.

Opis:
In a previous work, Prieur, Trelat (2006), we derived a result of semi-global minimal time robust stabilization for analytic control systems with controls entering linearly, by means of a hybrid state feedback law, under the main assumption of the absence of minimal time singular trajectories. In this paper, we investigate the Martinet case, which is a model case in 1R3, where singular mini-mizers appear, and show that such a stabilization result still holds. Namely, we prove that the solutions of the closed-loop system converge to the origin in quasi minimal time (for a given bound on the controller) with a robustness property with respect to small measurement noise, external disturbances and actuator errors.

Opis:
This paper presents an overview of some recent results concerning the emerging theory of minimax LQG control for uncertain systems with a relative entropy constraint uncertainty description. This is an important new robust control system design methodology providing minimax optimal performance in terms of a quadratic cost functional. The paper first considers some standard uncertainty descriptions to motivate the relative entropy constraint uncertainty description. The minimax LQG problem under consideration is further motivated by analysing the basic properties of relative entropy. The paper then presents a solution to a worst case control system performance problem which can be generalized to the minimax LQG problem. The solution to this minimax LQG control problem is found to be closely connected to the problem of risk-sensitive optimal control.

Opis:
In the paper the problem of ship autopilot design based on feedback linearization method combined with the robust control approach, is considered. At first the nonlinear ship model (of Norrbin type) is linearized with the use of the simple system nonlinearity cancellation. Next, bearing in mind that exact values of the model parameters are not known, the ensuing inaccuracies are taken as disturbances acting on the system. Thereby is obtained a linear system with an extra term representing the uncertainty which can be treated by using robust, H∞optimal control techniques. The performed simulations of ship course-changing process confirmed a high performance of the proposed controller despite the assumed significant errors of its parameters.

Opis:
This paper presents a case study on the design of a robust controller for the depth of anesthesia (DoA) induced by the drug propofol. This process is represented by a linear model together with a non-parametric uncertainty description that is evaluated using a patient model bank with 20 patients undergoing sedation. By using H∞ methods, the controller is aimed to comply with robust stability and performance specifications for the class of patient models considered. A minimization problem of sensitivity and complementary sensitivity is made to design the controller. The controller that results from this procedure is approximated by a controller with a lower order, that in turn is redesigned in discrete time for computer control application. The resulting controller is evaluated in simulations using a realistic nonlinear model of DoA.
