Opis:: Road transportation is playing an important role in almost all freight movements and contributes to the economy. It has the highest share in the modal division of transported goods. This situation is not about to change in the coming years. Therefore, it is necessary to change the current situation and modify rules and regulations, which could lead to a decrease in the number of accidents in either the EU or the USA. This paper identifies and compares different safety measures, rules and regulations governing the safety of truck transport in the EU and the USA. The number of accidents is a good safety indicator. Finally, suggestions for improvements in terms of truck drivers’ safety in the EU and the USA are proposed.

Opis:: Driving a car does not mean only controlling it and bringing it to the destination but it is also a social interaction of drivers towards each other, where emotions play an important role. Destructive emotions e.g. anger worsen the ability of making a decision. And it also holds for the people behind the steering wheel. Abroad, the questionnaires used for the detection of potential aggressive drivers, or diagnostics of drivers who already have a driving license, have a form of survey. In year 2010 was realized a questionnaire about aggressive behavior of drivers in Slovak republic from which came out very interesting information. Some information is mentioned in this paper.
Jazda samochodem obejmuje nie tylko kontrolę nad samochodem i dotarcie nim do celu, lecz także relacje społeczne kierowców wobec siebie, stanowiąc obszar, na którym emocje odgrywają ważną rolę. Destruktywne emocje, na przykład złość, upośledzają zdolność podejmowania decyzji. To dotyczy również ludzi za kierownicą samochodu. Zagranicą prowadzi się badania ankietowe o charakterze przeglądowym w celu diagnozowania skłonności do agresji u osób posiadających już prawo jazdy. W roku 2010 przeprowadzono badania ankietowe dotyczące agresywnego zachowania kierowców na Słowacji, z których wynikają bardzo interesujące spostrzeżenia. Pewien przegląd informacji zawiera niniejszy artykuł.

Opis:: Road transportation does an excellent job of connecting Savar's inner and outer areas, but it might be difficult for commuters to decide which mode of transportation to employ because residents of Savar come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. It is necessary to do in-depth research on the characteristics of people in the study region who choose different modes of transportation to achieve the goal of selecting a certain mode for their travel. Where a person lives can have a significant impact on their typical patterns of travel behavior. People who live closer to the center of things have access to a wider variety of amenities than those who live further away, and as a consequence, their travel patterns are distinct from one another. The study's findings indicate that several factors, including income, age, gender, and vocational qualities and goals, influence a commuter's preferred method of transportation. When it comes to selecting a mode of transportation, the most predictable factors to take into account are trip time and cost. After conducting research, it was found that most excursions are made from this place to Motijheel, Tejgaon, and Savar Export Processing Zone for their services, businesses, and jobs, respectively.

Opis:: W artykule omówione zostało zagadnienie bezpieczeństwa przewozu ładunku, jako jednego z elementów bezpieczeństwa ruchu drogowego. Przedstawiono istotę zabezpieczenia ładunku, wskazując rodzaje zabezpieczeń, opisując metody zabezpieczenia kształtowego, blokowego i siłowego ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem metod przepasania odciągami. Ponadto wskazano zasady prawidłowego posadowienia ładunku w przestrzeni załadunkowej pojazdu, przedstawiając rodzaje sił oddziałujących na towar w czasie transportu. Ponadto przedstawiono procedurę obliczania ilości odciągów przepasających od góry w zależności od masy i wielkości ładunku oraz siły tarcia pomiędzy ładunkiem a skrzynią ładunkową. Przedstawioną procedurę zobrazowano na przykładzie zabezpieczenia ładunku w postaci worków z peletem umieszczonych na paletach płaskich, wskazując zasadę obliczania odciągów.
The article discusses the issue of cargo safety as one of the elements of road safety. The essence of cargo security is presented, indicating the types of security, describing the shape, block and power protection methods, with particular emphasis on the methods of lashing. In addition, the principles of correct loading of cargo in the loading area of the vehicle are presented, showing the types of forces affecting the cargo during transport. In addition, a procedure for calculating the number of superimposed lashings is shown, depending on the mass and volume of the load and the friction between the load and the vehicle’s floor. The procedure is illustrated by the example of a pelletized cargo shelter, showing calculation of the principle of lining.

Opis:: Transport telematics (ITS - Inteligent Transport Systems) deals with application of information and communication technologies with the aim of enhancing traffic performance, economies, efficiency, safety, ecology and comfort of transport. ITS basic functions applicable to all modes of transport include a.o. traffic control and management, intelligent vehicles, electronic fee collection, management of rescue systems, management of public mass transportation, route planning, provisioning of traffic information, fleet management and logistics of freight transport. Developing the tradition of science, research and the existing industrial basis, the Czech transport telematics sector is one of those most advanced in Europe. Nevertheless, the present scope of ITS implementation in the Czech Republic is relatively low, and the social climate and regulatory environment related to ITS aren´t at a sufficient high level either. Therefore, the Association for Transport Telematics (SDT, ITS&S) is coming up with an initiative called ITS 2020 Vision, trying to formulate crucial directions of development and implementation of transport telematics in the Czech Republic until 2020, identify the main obstacles to the development and propose the methods of how to remove them.

Opis:: Purpose: This study evaluates the acceptance of GPS/GPRS-based telematics technology in freight road transport companies registered in Poland. Design/methodology/approach: The evaluation is based on a survey of 500 representative road transport companies carried out in 2020. The Technology Acceptance Model was estimated, and its results were checked for robustness. The scope of the information collected in telematics systems is defined in terms of its perceived utility and perceived ease of use at the operational management level. The latent factors affecting technology use are defined and implemented. Findings: Most respondents (80%) claimed that telematics systems had a considerable influence on the effectiveness and efficiency of the whole company's operation. It contributed to a higher number of orders executed per time unit, more effective use of the driver's working time, and increased the entrepreneurs' trust in the company. The companies employing more workers recognize the higher usefulness of telematics systems and are motivated to use the technology more widely than smaller enterprises. TAMs estimated separately for small and medium-sized enterprises did not significantly differ among the parameter estimates. Research limitations/implications: The Technology Acceptance Model is a useful analytical tool for evaluating telematics technology acceptance by the road transport sector. The study is based on a random sample of enterprises observed once in 2020. It is recommended to monitor them in two or three waves to compare the dynamics of the telematics usage process. It is planned to continue the study in that direction. Practical implications: The outcomes are valuable in practice twofold. Firstly, the extension of telematics systems use is interesting for final users, i.e., road transport companies that will find scope for their application. Secondly, the results are helpful for system providers who get knowledge on telematics perception from enterprise management. Originality/value: Although widely applied to other IT systems, the TAM model has not been used to evaluate the use of telematics in road transport companies. The paper justifies TAM's categories at the operational management level in road transport enterprises, contributing to understanding managers' behavioral aspects of decision-making.

Department of Transportation Engineering is one of the oldest organization unit at Kielce University of Technology celebrating the fiftieth anniversary in this academic year. It played an important role in the training of cadres involved in a road engineering not only for Świętokrzyskie voivodeship, but also for Southeastern region of Poland. Except the didactic activity, it made a contribution in research in the field of asphalt mixtures, recycling pavement construction, traffic engineering and road safety.

Opis:: Zapewnienie bezpieczeństwa w ruchu drogowym jest jednym z podstawowych zdań ustawowych postawionych przed Policją. Są one istotnym instrumentem działań zmierzających do poprawy stanu bezpieczeństwa drogowego w Polsce, zmniejszenia kosztów wypadków drogowych oraz urzeczywistnienia celów europejskiej polityki transportowej. W niniejszym artykule przedstawione zostały wyniki przeprowadzonych działań kontrolnych.
Ensuring road safety is one of the basic saturatory tasks set against the Police. Out of concern for the safety of the youngest road users, brought to educational institutions, the policemenn of the Masovian Police from October 2017 to the end of June 2018 carried out activities under the name „GIMBUS”. These activities consisted nainly of checking the technical condition of vehicles and the sobriety and working time of drives. They are an important instrument of actions aimed at improving the state of road safety in Poland, reducing the costs of road accidents and achieving the objectives of European transport policy. This article presents the results of the control activities carried out.

Opis:: Forest roads are characterized by low traffic, but heavy timber haulage trucks have a significant influence on road conditions and usually exceed the limit of 80–100 kN per axle. The excessive weight of the trucks degrades the road surface and the forest environment. This article presents the results of a study of timber transport loads from their places of acquirement (forest districts) to the recipient (a large sawmill). The analysis includes the parameters of the timber transport vehicles and focuses especially on the gross vehicle weight (GVW), the total weight of empty truck and trailer during transport, and the weight of their loads. Scania, Iveco, Man, and Mercedes trucks with trailers and semitrailers designed for large-size pine timber transport were analyzed. ANOVA results revealed that all 80 analyzed vehicles exceeded the permitted GVW in the range from 2.28 to 19.94 Mg, transporting from 20.1 to 37.5 m3 of timber. The coefficient of determination between the amount of hauled timber and the GVW equaled 62.7%. Research conducted previously concluded that forest roads with ground and gravel surfaces are not suitable for overloads of 120–150 kN per axle. Therefore, it is necessary to find a logistical solution that will allow the load volume to be maintained at an acceptable level without destroying the forest road surface.

Opis:: W pracy wskazuje się, że masy całkowite samochodów z surowcem drzewnym pozyskanym z Państwowego Gospodarstwa Leśnego Lasy Państwowe powinny odpowiadać przepisom, aby zarówno drogi leśne jak i publiczne nie były ponadnormatywnie obciążane. W związku z przebudową dróg publicznych i aktualnie prowadzoną optymalizacją leśnej sieci drogowej konieczna jest współpraca zarządzających tymi drogami, planowanie wspólnych prac drogowych i opracowywanie logistyki transportowej lokalnych obszarów transportowych. Badania terenowe wykazały, że nośność dróg lokalnych i leśnych można podnosić stosując odpowiednie rozwiązania konstrukcyjne i nowoczesne materiały drogowe (np. geosiatki i geotkaniny).
The paper indicates that the total mass of vehicles with timber obtained from the State Forests National Forest Holding shall satisfy the requirements for both forest roads and public were not loaded above standards. In connection with the reconstruction of public roads and actually led the optimization of forest road network cooperation is required between managers of these roads, the planning of common work and the development of road transport logistics of local transport areas. Field studies have shown that the load capacity of local and forestry roads can be raised by using appropriate design solutions and modern road materials (eg. geogrid and woven geotextiles).

Opis:: Transportation, representing 6% of GDP, plays vital role in social and economic development of the Republic of Belarus. The purpose of this article is to present the geographic analysis of current spatial structure of the road transportation in Belarus in 2000-2014. The choice of transport mode for the article was influenced by several factors, such as historic development, network coverage, transformational changes in productivity, rapid increase in car ownership numbers, emergence of logistic centers and intelligent transportation systems. The article reviews the range of topics, including morphology of the major roads network, logistic centers spatial distribution and regional features of passenger and cargo productivity, discusses current transformational changes within the road transportation sector in Belarus. The key findings indicate that current changes in spatial structure of the road transportation in Belarus have uneven nature, shaped by social, economic, political and geopolitical external and internal factors and are a subject of interest for both transportation researchers and practitioners.

Opis:: A lot of substances and items are transported by road, sea, rail and air every day. The biggest hazard is created by the transportation of hazardous substances with flammable, caustic or toxic properties. The hazard level increases if such sub-stances are transported through densely populated areas. Traffic intensity, the technical condition of vehicles, drivers’ errors or ignorance and non-compliance with legal regulations are examples of factors that can lead to potential failures in the transport sector. Accidents can cause an uncontrolled release of dangerous gases or liquids, resulting e.g. in environmental degradation or a hazard to humans. The article presents the issues related to the hazards presented by road transportation of hazardous materials. Examples are shown of potential effects of accidents and hazard zones arising due to a release of selected hazardous substances, such as chlorine, ammonia, petrol, diesel oil or LPG.
