Opis:: Road transportation does an excellent job of connecting Savar's inner and outer areas, but it might be difficult for commuters to decide which mode of transportation to employ because residents of Savar come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds. It is necessary to do in-depth research on the characteristics of people in the study region who choose different modes of transportation to achieve the goal of selecting a certain mode for their travel. Where a person lives can have a significant impact on their typical patterns of travel behavior. People who live closer to the center of things have access to a wider variety of amenities than those who live further away, and as a consequence, their travel patterns are distinct from one another. The study's findings indicate that several factors, including income, age, gender, and vocational qualities and goals, influence a commuter's preferred method of transportation. When it comes to selecting a mode of transportation, the most predictable factors to take into account are trip time and cost. After conducting research, it was found that most excursions are made from this place to Motijheel, Tejgaon, and Savar Export Processing Zone for their services, businesses, and jobs, respectively.

Opis:: Spatial accessibility is an increasingly popular indicator of assessing the level of development of transport infrastructure, and its impact on the development of particular territorial units. Among the most often used indexes of accessibility that can be applied to analyses prepared for the purposes of sea ports and coastal areas, are the following: - time accessibility (presenting in a cartographic review how much time it takes to get to particular points), and accumulated accessibility; - potential accessibility (presenting units positions on the background of general transportation network of a given mode). The aim of this study was to assess the potential road accessibility in the years 2015 and 2030, as well as the changes resulting from the investments planned for this period of time. In the study of accessibility to the network of the existing sea ports, there were taken into account: Elbląg, Gdańsk, Gdynia, Ustka, Darłowo, Kołobrzeg, Świnoujście, Police and Szczecin. Analyses of these ports’ time accessibility have been also performed. It has been established that none of the Polish ports can boast of sufficient road connections with important national centres, which are their vital economic hinterland. The situation in Tricity (Gdansk, Sopot, Gdynia) is most favourable, and its further improvement depends on completion of the S5 and S7 express roads, and on the implementation of investments within the agglomeration. Extending the Szczecin Lagoon ports’ hinterland is going to be more problematic though it will also take place after the S3 road is completed. The small ports on the central coast are accessible by the system of roads only to a very limited degree and are not likely to improve their situation in the years to come. Implementation of the S6 express road will alter this state only partially (because of it running latitudinally). An integrated, spatially big market can be found only in the Tricity region. No integration of this kind can be found in the Szczecin-Świnoujście complex, not to mention the central part of the coast. The planned investments are to increase the range of the Tricity metropolis’s employment market (e.g. by Elbląg), and will allow an integration of the market within the area of the Szczecin Lagoon.
Dostępność przestrzenna jest coraz częściej stosowaną miarą pozwalającą na ocenę poziomu rozbudowy infrastruktury transportowej oraz jej wpływu na rozwój określonych jednostek terytorialnych. Do najczęściej stosowanych miar dostępności, które mogą mieć zastosowanie w przypadku analiz na potrzeby portów morskich oraz obszarów nadmorskich, należą: - dostępność czasowa (pokazująca w ujęciu kartograficznym czasy dojazdu do określonych punktów) oraz skumulowana; - dostępność potencjałowa (pokazująca pozycje jednostek w ogólnej sieci transportowej danej gałęzi). Celem opracowania była ocena dostępności potencjałowej drogowej w roku 2015 i 2030 oraz zmian w wyniku inwestycji planowanych w tym okresie. W badaniach dostępności do sieci istniejących portów morskich uwzględniono: Elbląg, Gdańsk, Gdynia, Ustka, Darłowo, Kołobrzeg, Świnoujście, Police i Szczecin. Dla tych portów wykonano także analizy dostępności czasowej. Stwierdzono, że polskie porty maja nadal niewystarczający poziom powiązania drogowego z ważnymi ośrodkami krajowymi, stanowiącymi ich istotne zaplecze gospodarcze. Najlepsza sytuacja występuje w Trójmieście, a jej dalsza poprawa zależy od realizacji dróg ekspresowych S5 i S7 oraz od inwestycji wewnątrzaglomeracyjnych. Powiększenie zaplecza portów rejonu Zalewu Szczecińskiego jest trudniejsze, ale również powinno mieć miejsce w przypadku ukończenia budowy drogi ekspresowej S3. Małe porty wybrzeża środkowego są bardzo słabo dostępne w systemie drogowym i nie poprawią tej sytuacji w najbliższych latach. Budowa drogi ekspresowej S6 tylko częściowo zmieni ten stan rzeczy (z uwagi na równoleżnikowy przebieg). Zintegrowany przestrzennie duży rynek istnieje tylko w rejonie Trójmiasta. Brak jest takiej integracji w zespole Szczecin-Świnoujście oraz tym bardziej, na wybrzeżu środkowym. Planowane inwestycje zwiększą zasięg rynku pracy metropolii Trójmiasta (m.in. o Elbląg) oraz pozwolą na integrację rynku w rejonie Zalewu Szczecińskiego.

Opis:: A lot of substances and items are transported by road, sea, rail and air every day. The biggest hazard is created by the transportation of hazardous substances with flammable, caustic or toxic properties. The hazard level increases if such sub-stances are transported through densely populated areas. Traffic intensity, the technical condition of vehicles, drivers’ errors or ignorance and non-compliance with legal regulations are examples of factors that can lead to potential failures in the transport sector. Accidents can cause an uncontrolled release of dangerous gases or liquids, resulting e.g. in environmental degradation or a hazard to humans. The article presents the issues related to the hazards presented by road transportation of hazardous materials. Examples are shown of potential effects of accidents and hazard zones arising due to a release of selected hazardous substances, such as chlorine, ammonia, petrol, diesel oil or LPG.

Opis:: Background: This study aims to shed light on risk-mitigating tools and strategies that can be used in third-party logistics (3PL) companies to increase performance. Risk and risk management tools are identified and classified according to the managers’ feedback and the theoretical background. The most important risks for the road transportation industry are analyzed, their implications are discussed, and mitigating strategies are offered. Methodology: The study used purposive sampling from international road freight forwarders that were members of the Association of International Forwarding and Logistics Service Providers (UTIKAD) or International Transporters' Association (UND). The data were collected by questionnaire method and analyzed with SPSS 22 and AMOS programs. Results: The results show that the road transportation industry has important risks that managers have not effectively managed. According to the results, the main problems in 3PL companies are lack of coordination, lack of visibility, and poor service quality. The results support that delivery risk directly affects transportation quality and process risks. Originality In this study, transportation-related risks are analyzed, showing their impact on a company’s overall processes. Additionally, we examine whether the transportation quality creates a mediation effect or information sharing has a moderation effect on a company’s process risks. Few studies exist on transportation risks and the role of mitigating strategies in reducing these risks, and this is also a limitation of our research from the risk perspective.

Opis:: Road transportation is playing an important role in almost all freight movements and contributes to the economy. It has the highest share in the modal division of transported goods. This situation is not about to change in the coming years. Therefore, it is necessary to change the current situation and modify rules and regulations, which could lead to a decrease in the number of accidents in either the EU or the USA. This paper identifies and compares different safety measures, rules and regulations governing the safety of truck transport in the EU and the USA. The number of accidents is a good safety indicator. Finally, suggestions for improvements in terms of truck drivers’ safety in the EU and the USA are proposed.

Opis:: Transportation, representing 6% of GDP, plays vital role in social and economic development of the Republic of Belarus. The purpose of this article is to present the geographic analysis of current spatial structure of the road transportation in Belarus in 2000-2014. The choice of transport mode for the article was influenced by several factors, such as historic development, network coverage, transformational changes in productivity, rapid increase in car ownership numbers, emergence of logistic centers and intelligent transportation systems. The article reviews the range of topics, including morphology of the major roads network, logistic centers spatial distribution and regional features of passenger and cargo productivity, discusses current transformational changes within the road transportation sector in Belarus. The key findings indicate that current changes in spatial structure of the road transportation in Belarus have uneven nature, shaped by social, economic, political and geopolitical external and internal factors and are a subject of interest for both transportation researchers and practitioners.

Opis:: Events and hazardous situations in road transport, breakdowns and even disasters during the transport of dangerous goods, pose a potential threat to human life and health, to the people working in the transport - drivers and the natural environment. This article presents some problems concerning the transport of dangerous goods on the basis of statistical data. The Author defines the risk in transport, as an indicator of the state or event that may lead to losses. The types of risks and their levels in road transport are specified herein. The key point in the article is the identification of hazards and safety factors of the driver’s work in the system of road traffic in the own assessment of the author. The article ends by an overall picture of risks in the road transport of dangerous goods.
Zdarzenia i sytuacje niebezpieczne w transporcie drogowym, awarie a nawet katastrofy podczas transportu towarów niebezpiecznych, stwarzają potencjalne zagrożenie dla życia i zdrowia ludzi, osób pracujących w transporcie – kierowców oraz środowiska naturalnego. W artykule przedstawiono wybrane problemy dotyczące transportu drogowego towarów niebezpiecznych w oparciu o dane statystyczne. Autor definiuje ryzyko w transporcie, jako wskaźnik stanu lub zdarzenia, które może prowadzić do strat. Określa rodzaje ryzyka i ich poziomy w transporcie drogowym. Kluczowa w artykule jest identyfikacja zagrożeń i czynniki bezpieczeństwa pracy kierowcy w systemie ruchu drogowego w ocenie własnej autora. The paper dwells on qualifications and obligations needed for persons responsible for transportation, packing, loading, filling or unloading of goods, concerning especially the importance and tasks of advisers on transportation safety of dangerous goods. Many factors influence the safe and smooth transport of dangerous articles. Regulations specify only general requirements for preparing documentation of shipment and marking the vehicle for carriage. The paper describes some faults which happen most often with documentation, marking, equipment and accessories of vehicles. The paper deals mainly with the road transport.

Opis:: The aim of the paper is to present the main guidelines of the Safeway2School European research project. The project's primary objective is to determine the safest route for school buses that transport children to school, through low traffic density areas, avoiding black spots. The project anticipates the use of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) in the process of children transportation. Within the project the Route Planning System, Rerouting System and Warning System will be designed and developed for school buses as well as for all surrounding vehicles. Project aims at designing the route for school buses and also the alternative route (in case the bus has to be rerouted due to traffic congestion or traffic incident) in order to maximize the safety of transported children with the use of localization and route planning tools, on-board safety systems and sensors in vehicles and road infrastructure. It is also crucial to design the network of ,"intelligent" bus stops (child-bus stop-bus communication) and equip the pilot group of children with special tags. The target group of the project consists of school bus drivers, children (pupils 6-16 years old) and their families, but also the road infrastructure authorities, car manufacturers, other road users and representatives of public administration. Within the project the training programs for school bus drivers, children, parents and other drivers will be elaborated. The aim of such activities is to result in unification of guidelines, training schemes and regulations concerning safe transportation of children to school. For the pilot realization of the above mentioned systems and training programs four European localizations have been chosen: Sweden, Austria, Italy and Poland. At the end of the project realization an evaluation of usability and effectiveness of applied technologies, as well as the level of system user's acceptance will be conducted. The project was submitted to the European Commission within the 7th Frame Program. Motor Transport Institute is the Polish project executor.

Opis:: Purpose: This study evaluates the acceptance of GPS/GPRS-based telematics technology in freight road transport companies registered in Poland. Design/methodology/approach: The evaluation is based on a survey of 500 representative road transport companies carried out in 2020. The Technology Acceptance Model was estimated, and its results were checked for robustness. The scope of the information collected in telematics systems is defined in terms of its perceived utility and perceived ease of use at the operational management level. The latent factors affecting technology use are defined and implemented. Findings: Most respondents (80%) claimed that telematics systems had a considerable influence on the effectiveness and efficiency of the whole company's operation. It contributed to a higher number of orders executed per time unit, more effective use of the driver's working time, and increased the entrepreneurs' trust in the company. The companies employing more workers recognize the higher usefulness of telematics systems and are motivated to use the technology more widely than smaller enterprises. TAMs estimated separately for small and medium-sized enterprises did not significantly differ among the parameter estimates. Research limitations/implications: The Technology Acceptance Model is a useful analytical tool for evaluating telematics technology acceptance by the road transport sector. The study is based on a random sample of enterprises observed once in 2020. It is recommended to monitor them in two or three waves to compare the dynamics of the telematics usage process. It is planned to continue the study in that direction. Practical implications: The outcomes are valuable in practice twofold. Firstly, the extension of telematics systems use is interesting for final users, i.e., road transport companies that will find scope for their application. Secondly, the results are helpful for system providers who get knowledge on telematics perception from enterprise management. Originality/value: Although widely applied to other IT systems, the TAM model has not been used to evaluate the use of telematics in road transport companies. The paper justifies TAM's categories at the operational management level in road transport enterprises, contributing to understanding managers' behavioral aspects of decision-making.

Opis:: Artykuł opisuje stan systemu okresowych badań technicznych. Ponadto wskazano podstawowe przyczyny zewnętrzne i wewnętrzne mające istotny wpływ na jakość badań technicznych pojazdów. Przedstawiono również przepisy Komisji Europejskiej w zakresie okresowych badań technicznych mających na celu ujednolicenie zasad badań pojazdów, procedur oceny układu i zespołów pojazdów w całej Europie, a w konsekwencji poprawę stanu technicznego pojazdów. W artykule skupiono się również na omówieniu koncepcji systemu wspomagania decyzji w obszarze utrzymania środków transportowych. Zdefiniowano podstawowe decyzje jakie są podejmowane w procesie funkcjonowania systemów transportowych.
The article presents state of the periodic technical tests system. The internal and external root causes having a significant impact on the quality of the technical inspections of vehicles have been identified. The newly proposed provisions of the European Commission on the periodic roadworthiness tests are intended to standardize the principles of testing of vehicles , procedures for assessment of vehicles system and components throughout Europe, and consequently, improve the condition of the vehicles. More over the article is focused on the investigation of conception of desicion support systems for means of transport maintenance processes performance. Thus, the main decisions being taken in the area of transportation systems performance are defined.
