Opis:
The hyperspaces $ANR(ℝ^n)$ and $AR(ℝ^n)$ in $2^{ℝ^n} (n ≥ 3)$ consisting respectively of all compact absolute neighborhood retracts and all compact absolute retracts are studied. It is shown that both have the Borel type of absolute $G_{δσ δ}$-spaces and that, indeed, they are not $F_{σ δσ }$-spaces. The main result is that $ANR(ℝ^n)$ is an absorber for the class of all absolute $G_{δσ δ}$-spaces and is therefore homeomorphic to the standard model space $Ω_3$ of this class.

We determine the size levels for any function on the hyperspace of an arc as follows. Assume Z is a continuum and consider the following three conditions: 1) Z is a planar AR; 2) cut points of Z have component number two; 3) any true cyclic element of Z contains at most two cut points of Z. Then any size level for an arc satisfies 1)-3) and conversely, if Z satisfies 1)-3), then Z is a diameter level for some arc.

Opis:
In this paper we discuss asymptotic behavior of solutions of a class of scalar discrete equations on discrete real time scales. A powerful tool for the investigation of various qualitative problems in the theory of ordinary differential equations as well as delayed differential equations is the retraction method. The development of this method is discussed in the case of the equation mentioned above. Conditions for the existence of a solution with its graph remaining in a predefined set are formulated. Examples are given to illustrate the results obtained.

A metric space (X,ϱ) satisfies the disjoint (0,n)-cells property provided for each point x ∈ X, any map f of the n-cell $B^{n}$ into X and for each ε > 0 there exist a point y ∈ X and a map $g:B^{n} → X$ such that ϱ(x,y) < ε, $\widehat{ϱ}(f,g) < ε$ and $y ∉ g(B^{n})$. It is proved that each homogeneous locally compact ANR of dimension >2 has the disjoint (0,2)-cells property. If dimX = n > 0, X has the disjoint (0,n-1)-cells property and X is a locally compact $LC^{n-1}$-space then local homologies satisfy $H_{k}(X,X-x) = 0$ for k < n and H_{n}(X,X-x) ≠ 0.

Opis:
For a subspace A of a space X, a linear extender φ:C(A) → C(X) is called an $L_{ch}$-extender (resp. $L_{cch}$-extender) if φ(f)[X] is included in the convex hull (resp. closed convex hull) of f[A] for each f ∈ C(A). Consider the following conditions (i)-(vii) for a closed subset A of a GO-space X: (i) A is a retract of X; (ii) A is a retract of the union of A and all clopen convex components of X\A; (iii) there is a continuous $L_{ch}$-extender φ:C(A × Y) → C(X × Y), with respect to both the compact-open topology and the pointwise convergence topology, for each space Y; (iv) A × Y is C*-embedded in X × Y for each space Y; (v) there is a continuous linear extender $φ:C*_{k}(A) → C_{p}(X)$; (vi) there is an $L_{ch}$-extender φ:C(A) → C(X); and (vii) there is an $L_{cch}$-extender φ:C(A) → C(X). We prove that these conditions are related as follows: (i)⇒(ii)⇔(iii)⇔(iv)⇔(v)⇒(vi)⇒(vii). If A is paracompact and the cellularity of A is nonmeasurable, then (ii)-(vii) are equivalent. If there is no connected subset of X which meets distinct convex components of A, then (ii) implies (i). We show that van Douwen's example of a separable GO-space satisfies none of the above conditions, which answers questions of Heath-Lutzer [9], van Douwen [1] and Hattori [8].

Opis:
A class C of graphs is said to be dually compact closed if, for every infinite G ∈ C, each finite subgraph of G is contained in a finite induced subgraph of G which belongs to C. The class of trees and more generally the one of chordal graphs are dually compact closed. One of the main part of this paper is to settle a question of Hahn, Sands, Sauer and Woodrow by showing that the class of bridged graphs is dually compact closed. To prove this result we use the concept of constructible graph. A (finite or infinite) graph G is constructible if there exists a well-ordering ≤ (called constructing ordering) of its vertices such that, for every vertex x which is not the smallest element, there is a vertex y < x which is adjacent to x and to every neighbor z of x with z < x. Finite graphs are constructible if and only if they are dismantlable. The case is different, however, with infinite graphs. A graph G for which every breadth-first search of G produces a particular constructing ordering of its vertices is called a BFS-constructible graph. We show that the class of BFS-constructible graphs is a variety (i.e., it is closed under weak retracts and strong products), that it is a subclass of the class of weakly modular graphs, and that it contains the class of bridged graphs and that of Helly graphs (bridged graphs being very special instances of BFS-constructible graphs). Finally we show that the class of interval-finite pseudo-median graphs (and thus the one of median graphs) and the class of Helly graphs are dually compact closed, and that moreover every finite subgraph of an interval-finite pseudo-median graph (resp. a Helly graph) G is contained in a finite isometric pseudo-median (resp. Helly) subgraph of G. We also give two sufficient conditions so that a bridged graph has a similar property.
