    The aim of this paper is to contribute to the academic discussion on the proper understanding of the notions of responsibility and innovation. In recent years, the field of Responsible Research and Innovation has grown rapidly among academia and received considerable attention. One area of focus concerns the proper understanding of the notion of the terms themselves. They are especially problematic in light of the critique that the subject has already received (cf. Blok, Lemmens 2015). This article provides an answer to that critique and proposes an alternative approach to the notions discussed. On the one hand, it outlines the so called ambivalued notion of innovation (cf. Kawalec 2015) and on the other, it presents a four-point characteristic of responsibility relevant to the field of research and innovation. In the text, the term responsibility should be understood as collective, future-oriented, socio-political, and values-oriented.

    The article is part of a larger cycle, and presents a part of the results of studies designed and conducted by a team of specialists in the Department of Applied Social Sciences. The work contains theoretical introduction to the topic of socially responsible innovation, a brief description of the methodology of the study and analysis of the results of research in the field of knowledge and opinions of the company's employees on socially responsible innovation in relation to the characteristics of the company and its relationship with the employees soft skills.

    Pojęcie „odpowiedzialne badania i innowacje” (RRI – Responsible Research and Innovation) jest coraz częściej wykorzystywane już od ponad dekady. Koncepcja ta nie jest obecnie dobrze opisana. Teoria RRI nie jest wystarczająco rozwinięta i nadal istnieją znaczące różnice koncepcyjne. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest odpowiedź na następujące pytania: „Jak może być zdefiniowane RRI?”, „Na jakim etapie jest proces wyłaniania wymiarów koncepcyjnych RRI?”, „Jaka może być rola RRI w procesie uniwersyteckiego transferu technologii?”. Metodyka zastosowana w badaniu to krytyczna analiza stanu wiedzy. Badanie polegało na zgromadzeniu publikacji z takich baz danych, jak: Scopus (www.scopus.com), EBSCO (www.ebsco.com), Google Scholar (scholar.google.com) i Google Books (books.google.com). Analizie poddano publikacje tylko z recenzowanych czasopism. Sformułowania użyte w trackie przeszukiwania baz danych to: odpowiedzialne innowacje, odpowiedzialne badania i innowacje, RRI oraz transfer technologii. Analiza krytyczna stanu wiedzy doprowadziła do wniosków skutkujących propozycją siedmiu wymiarów pojęciowych RRI (inkluzja, antycypacja, reakcja, refleksja, troska i wymiar ekonomiczny). Zaprezentowane wymiary RRI mogą być realizowane w procesach transferu technologii procedowanych na uniwersytecie. Koncepcja RRI jest wciąż w fazie rozwoju. Dyskusja wokół koncepcyjnych wymiarów RRI będzie prawdopodobnie zmierzać w tym samym kierunku co wyzwania strategiczne uczelni. W wyniku przeprowadzonego badania wyłoniły się dwa kluczowe wnioski. Po pierwsze, wykorzystanie koncepcji RRI może doprowadzić do przesunięcia punktu ciężkości celów działalności Centrów Transferu Technologii (CTT) od wartości finansowo‑księgowych (przychody, przepływy pieniężne, stopy zwrotu, patenty, opłaty licencyjne etc.) do procesów, które są związane z drugim kluczowym wnioskiem, iż siedem zaprezentowanych wymiarów koncepcyjnych RRI powinny być realizowane w ramach procedur CTT. Uwzględnienie tych dwóch wniosków umożliwia wdrożenie RRI na uniwersytecie w szerszej perspektywie niż tylko spełnienie administracyjnych wymogów instytucji finansujących badania naukowe.
    The term „Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI)” has been increasingly used for over a decade. The RRI concept is not currently well defined. The theory of RRI is not developed enough and there are still conceptual divergences. This paper introduces the issue of Responsible Research and Innovation and addresses the following key questions: How do we define RRI? Where do we stand in terms of understanding the RRI dimensions presented in literature? What is the role of RRI in the university technology transfer activity? The study is based on literature search on the Scopus (www.scopus.com), EBSCO (www.ebsco.com), Google Scholar (scholar.google.com) and Google Books (books.google.com) databases to obtain articles published in peer reviewed journals, related to the concept of RRI and technology transfer. The search terms (for title and topic) were: responsible innovation, responsible research and innovation, RRI, technology transfer. Critical analysis of the state of knowledge allowed to propose a set of seven conceptual dimensions (inclusion, anticipation, responsiveness, reflexivity, sustainability, care and economic) of the Responsible Research and Innovation concept that may be implemented in technology transfer processes executed at universities. RRI concept is still under development. A discussion around the conceptual dimensions of RRI will be followed by the strategic challenges of universities. The study resulted in two conclusions. Firstly, the RRI concept may shift the focus of TTOs (Technology Transfer Offices) from outcomes (revenues, cash flow, rate of return, patents, license fee, etc.) to processes, which further leads to the second conclusion, that all seven presented conceptual dimensions should indicate particular types of processes in university TTO. Fulfillment of these two conclusions makes possible to implement RRI on University in a wider perspective, than just fulfill the requirements of administrative funders.

    Purpose: The main aim of this paper is to identify the specificity of socially responsible innovations in retail against the background of sustainable development, and to identify examples of socially responsible innovations implemented by selected retail chains in Poland. In the Author's opinion, they are crucial for the development of a responsible society, but also for a sustainable economy. Design/methodology/approach: The methodology applied in the article refers to the methodological canon of management sciences, including, among others, conceptual-theoretical and empirical research methodology. On their basis a critical analysis of foreign and Polish literature in the field of management science, theory of development and functioning of the retail trade has been carried out. The analyzed cases of retail chains were considered representative due to their strong market position and large contribution to the development of the FMCG market (the so-called "best business practices") - for this purpose, the qualitative research methodology was applied, including a case study. Findings: The analysis conducted in this paper indicates that large retail chains are creating socially responsible innovations, thus having a significant impact on the spread of socially responsible practices. These activities are mainly based on shaping the environmental awareness of employees and customers, increasing the safety and quality of products, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, effective waste management, rational use of natural resources, reducing staff turnover and improving their working conditions. Originality/value: The article presents how the literature on management science describes and explains the essence, specificity, and types of socially responsible innovations against the background of the sustainable development concept. On this solid factual basis, socially responsible innovations implemented by selected retail chains in Poland were identified. This allowed to verify theoretical assumptions related to the development of socially responsible innovations with the actual state of affairs, reflected in the analyzed practices of retail chains.

    Technology research, design, and development is confronted with rapidly advancing digitalization in two respects: (1) digitally supported or enabled technologies need to be designed and developed, and (2) the respective R&D processes themselves will happen in a much more digitalized environment. Technology design generally must take into account the values involved and possible consequences of the development and use of the resulting products, services, and systems. In a digitalizing environment, the issue of values gains even more significance because more and more close and intimate interfaces between humans and technology have to be shaped. Designing human-machine interfaces is not only a functional issue but touches upon ethical questions such as the distribution of responsibility, but also upon anthropological issues related to the human self-image and ideas about future society as well. In the respective research, design, and development processes, value-laden issues such as control, privacy, empathy, responsibility, and accountability must be taken into account beyond technical issues of efficiency and reliability. The need for designing and shaping digital future technologies involving ethics and technology assessment will be demonstrated by three examples: future industrial production and the fields of self-driving cars and care robots. Value sensitive design and responsible research and innovation will be introduced as approaches to deal with these challenges.

    Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) is an emerging paradigm and a novel approach to governing science and innovation with the aim of making them ethically acceptable and socially desirable. RRI concept has become a popular term as a result of making it a cross-cutting theme for the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme. Up to date, research on the topic has focused on conceptual problems (relation with similar concepts as well as ethical, moral, philosophical, cultural underpinnings and assumptions) and on the possibilities of making the concept relevant to the Research & Innovation community in Europe and worldwide. Despite some initial efforts, there is still a need to further develop methods and techniques that could make RRI a useful framework for conducting innovation activities, especially in the business environment. The aim of this paper is to propose a range of approaches that help operationalise RRI. The approaches employ methods such as weighted indicators, maturity models and scorecards.

    Opis:
    This article addresses the concept of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), which concerns extensive collaboration between different actors at all stages of the R&D process and emphasises the prevention of the potential negative impact of innovations. RRI has been incorporated as a key concept of Horizon 2020, the European Commission's framework programme for 2014-2020. The purpose of this article is twofold. First, it serves to present and explain the concept of RRI. Secondly, it aims to describe the degree of familiarity and practical implementation of the RRI concept in the Polish innovation system among scientific and business institutions and formulate training needs in this area. Research questions have been answered based on in-depth interviews conducted with representatives of various institutions of the Polish innovation system. The study results show that despite the lack of familiarity with the definition of RRI, similar concepts are known, and practices concerning particular aspects of RRI, including ethics, public engagement and gender equality, are implemented to some extent. Finally, the most critical barriers to the implementation of the RRI concept have been identified.
    Niniejszy artykuł dotyczy koncepcji Odpowiedzialnych Badań i Innowacji (OBiI), zakładającej szeroką współpracę między różnymi podmiotami na wszystkich etapach procesu badawczo-rozwojowego i kładącej nacisk na zapobieganie potencjalnym negatywnym skutkom tego procesu. OBiI zostało wpisane jako kluczowe pojęcie programu ramowego Komisji Europejskiej na lata 2014–2020 Horyzont 2020. Cel artykułu jest dwojaki. Po pierwsze, służy on zaprezentowaniu i wyjaśnieniu pojęcia OBiI. Po drugie przedstawia stopień znajomości i praktycznego wdrożenia koncepcji OBiI w instytucjach polskiego systemu innowacji. Odpowiedzi na pytania badawcze udzielono na podstawie pogłębionych wywiadów indywidualnych przeprowadzonych z osobami zajmującymi stanowiska kierownicze w różnych instytucjach naukowych i biznesowych. Wyniki badania pokazują, że pomimo braku znajomości definicji OBiI w instytucjach polskiego systemu innowacji znane są zbliżone pojęcia oraz w pewnym stopniu wdrażane praktyki dotyczące poszczególnych aspektów OBiI, w tym etyki, zaangażowania społecznego oraz równości płci. Badanie pozwoliło również na sformułowanie potrzeb szkoleniowych w zakresie OBiI oraz zidentyfikowanie najważniejszych trudności we wdrażaniu tej koncepcji w instytucjach polskiego systemu innowacji.

    The main aim of the article is to identify the factors distinguishing socially responsible investment (SRI) as an innovation on the financial market as well as the presentation of development prospects of SRI in Poland. In the course of goal realization were discussed definitions of sustainable financial market, socially responsible investment and analyzed SRI according to characteristics of financial innovation. Selected aspects of SRI, such as the RESPECT Index or green bonds, are examples of innovations on the Polish financial market. As part of the analysis of the prospects of socially responsible investment in Poland, author presents the results of empirical research conducted in 2017 in accordance to the Delphi method which indicate the slow growth of SRI in the next five year perspective.
    Głównym celem artykułu jest identyfikacja elementów wyróżniających społecznie odpowiedzialne inwestowanie (SRI) jako innowację na rynku finansowym oraz przedstawienie perspektyw rozwoju SRI w Polsce. W opracowaniu omówiono definiowanie zrównoważonego rynku finansowego i społecznie odpowiedzialnego inwestowania oraz przeanalizowano SRI pod kątem cech charakteryzujących innowacje finansowe. Wybrane aspekty SRI, takie jak RESPECT Index czy ekologiczne obligacje, stanowią przykład innowacji na polskim rynku finansowym. W ramach analizy perspektyw społecznie odpowiedzialnego inwestowania w Polsce zaprezentowano wyniki autorskich badań empirycznych zrealizowanych w 2017 roku według metody delfickiej, które wskazują na wolny wzrost SRI w okresie najbliższych pięciu lat.
