Artykuł jest namysłem badacza nad jego działalnością podjętą w ramach zrealizowanego projektu sytuującego się w perspektywie badań rekonstrukcyjnych. W obszarze zainteresowania znalazły się doświadczone przez niego trudności i wątpliwości, a także próby odnajdowania się w pracy z metodologią teorii ugruntowanej w danych. Zasygnalizowane zostały następujące kwestie: wybór orientacji badawczej i jego konsekwencje, rola badacza, znaczenie literatury i konsultacji z doświadczonymi badaczami dla działalności badawczej. Przedstawiony został również (za)rys zrealizowanego projektu. Inspiracją do stworzenia ramy konstrukcyjnej tekstu była autoetnografia analityczna.
The article provides a researcher’s reflection on her activity undertaken while conducting a project from the reconstruction research perspective. Difficulties and doubts experienced by the researcher and the attempts to adapt to working with the methodology of grounded theory are in the centre of attention here. The follow- ing issues were touched upon: a choice of a research orientation and its consequences, a researcher’s role, the importance of literature, and consultations with researchers experienced in this area. An outline of the carried out project was also presented here. Analytic autoethnography constituted the inspiration for establishing a constructive framework.

Identity politics have been of considerable interest to the qualitative research tradition as researchers have speculated on the extent to which identity and positionality matter in the field. In this autoethnography, I analyze private writings I composed while studying musicians’ life course trajectories in musical careers, paying particular attention to the methodological implications of my fieldwork decisions. I concentrate on: 1) issues of access, 2) identity politics, and 3) the ethics of relationships in the field. I analyze the extent to which I negotiated several (sometimes conflicting) ways I presented my identity in different settings and among different populations. My presentation of self-strategies – sometimes intentional, other times haphazard – allowed me successful entrée to the music world, though I remained an outsider within. I conclude with methodological implications highlighting the ways researchers’ identities may influence the research process and suggestions for qualitative researchers to consider in future studies.

Autorka podejmuje rozważania na temat wymiarów usytuowania badacza w badaniach jakościowych. Wprowadzając do tematu, pokazuje transdyscyplinarny rozwój oraz uwypukla paradygmatyczną różnorodność obecną w wybranym typie badań. W swojej refleksji koncentruje się na trzech wymiarach usytuowania badacza, tj. poznawczym, społecznym i emocjonalnym. Obecność i aktywność podmiotu poznającego w badaniach może przejawiać się bowiem w zdobywaniu wiedzy, nawiązywaniu interakcji społecznych oraz różnym emocjonalnym zaangażowaniu badacza w podejmowane praktyki. Następnie, autorka analizuje wybrane okresy i fazy badań jakościowych pod względem trzech wyróżnionych wymiarów usytuowania badacza.
The author considers the problems of the position of the researcher in qualitative research. In the introduction, the transdisciplinary development is shown and paradigmatic versatility found in this type of research is highlighted. The considerations are focused on the three dimensions in which the researcher is positioned, i.e. the cognitive, social and emotional dimensions. In the research, the presence and activity of the cognitive subject is expressed through gaining knowledge and taking action. Then, the author analyses chosen periods and phases of qualitative research in the light of the three selected dimensions in the position of the researcher.

This article is a retrospective look at the research experiences of the two authors, who began their study of ethnic issues in Poland at the beginning of the 1990s. They discuss the place and role of the anthropologist in the research process, the social and political context of activities in the field, the researcher’s position in relation to the research subjects, power relations, positioning, and the prevailing forms of discourse. Their aim is to show the challenges and dilemmas facing a researcher of ethnic minorities, with the necessity of choosing a strategy of engagement or distance and the consequences of that choice.
Artykuł jest próbą retrospektywnego spojrzenia na doświadczenia badawcze dwóch autorek, które rozpoczęły swe badania nad problematyką etniczną w Polsce na początku lat dziewięćdziesiątych XX wieku. W centrum ich uwagi znajduje się namysł nad miejscem i rolą antropolożki/antropologa w procesie badawczym, społecznymi i politycznymi uwarunkowaniami działań podejmowanych w „terenie”, usytuowaniem w relacji do badanych, pozycjonowaniem, relacjami władzy czy też  obowiązującymi formacjami dyskursywnymi. Kluczowe jest ukazanie wyzwań i dylematów, przed jakimi staje badaczka/badacz mniejszości etnicznych — w obliczu wyboru strategii zaangażowania bądź zdystansowania podczas badań oraz konsekwencji dokonywanych wyborów.

Young Researchers Symposium WILGA on Photonics Applications and Web Engineering has been organized since 1998, two times a year. Subject area of the Wilga Symposium are advanced photonic and electronic systems in all aspects: theoretical, design and application, hardware and software, academic, scientific, research, development, commissioning and industrial, but also educational and development of research and technical staff. Each year, during the international Spring edition, the Wilga Symposium is attended by a few hundred young researchers, graduated M.Sc. students, Ph.D. students, young doctors, young research workers from the R&D institutions, universities, innovative firms, etc. Wilga, gathering through years the organization experience, has turned out to be a perfect relevant information exchange platform between young researchers from Poland with participation of international guests, all active in the research areas of electron and photon technologies, electronics, photonics, telecommunications, automation, robotics and information technology, but also technical physics. The paper summarizes the achievements of the 38th Spring Edition of 2016 WILGA Symposium, organized in Wilga Village Resort owned by Warsaw University of technology.

Autorka sięga do antropologicznej refleksji podejmującej tematy etyczne oraz twórczości Marii Ossowskiej, znajdując w niej fundamentalne inspiracje.
The article concentrates on the analysis of the author’s field experience. It focuses on emotional and axiological dilemmas and complexities resulting from long-lasting cooperation with researched group. The effects of the process are on one side personal bonds between researcher and researchees (sometimes deep friendship and affection), and on the other side his/her engagement in studied society problems. The author uses not only literature about anthropological reflection on ethical issues in fieldwork, but also implies Maria Ossowska’s works, furnishing rich inspirations.

The aim of the article is to compare the conditions and opportunities faced by researchers from two academic disciplines: medicine and architecture. In this comparison, one would like to discuss the elements of art and science present in both disciplines. Architecture (from the Greek architekton "master builder") - the art and science of shaping space to meet the physical and psychological needs of man (B. Zevi 1966. Medicine (from the Latin medicina "medical art") - an empirical science (one that is applied, based on observation or experience) covering all knowledge about human health and diseases and how to prevent and treat them. The foundation of the development of medicine, apart from scientific progress in all related fields, is the excellent combination of theory and practice in the form of medical universities with complexes of clinics. The matter is different in architecture, where the practical aspect is completely detached from universities and there are no “architecture polyclinics”.
Celem artykułu jest porównanie warunków i możliwości uprawiania zawodu naukowca w dyscyplinie medycyny i architektury. Z tego porównania wysnute są wnioski i postulaty dla dyscypliny architektura. Architektura (grec. architecton „główny budowniczy”) – nauka empiryczna (stosowana), sztuka i nauka kształtowania przestrzeni w celu zaspokojenia fizycznych i psychicznych potrzeb człowieka. (B. Zevi 1966) Medycyna (łac. medicina „sztuka lekarska”) – nauka empiryczna (stosowana, oparta na doświadczeniu) obejmująca całość wiedzy o zdrowiu i chorobach człowieka oraz sposobach ich zapobiegania, oraz ich leczenia. Podstawą rozwoju medycyny, prócz postępu naukowego we wszystkich dziedzinach pokrewnych, jest doskonałe rozwiązanie polegające na łączeniu teorii z praktyką: Uniwersytet medyczny z zespołem klinik. Inaczej jest w architekturze, gdzie aspekt praktyczny jest zupełnie niezwiązany instytucjonalnie z uczelnią, brak jest „klinik architektury”.

Rozważania zawarte w artykule koncentrują się wokół autonarracji, służącej rekonstrukcji życia w perspektywie czasu. Ukazanie istoty i znaczenia autonarracji w życiu współczesnego człowieka kieruje dalsze rozważania ku propozycji rozczytania autorskiej techniki narracyjnej nazwanej jako „odkrywanie siebie z powrotem”. Artykuł stanowi próbę przyjrzenia się temporalnemu biegowi historii życia poprzez snucie autonarracji o samym sobie uwikłanym w codzienność.
The considerations included in the article focus on self-narration that serves life reconstruction in time perspective. Showing the essence and importance of self-narration in the life of a contemporary man directs further thinking to the proposal of reading the author’s narrative technique called as “discovering oneself again”. The article is an attempt of looking closer at the temporary life history course through self-narration about oneself entangled in daily life.

The article considers the problem of researcher’s embodiment in the process of data gathering and analysis in an ethnographic study on social world of climbing. In author’s opinion, presented reflections go beyond described case and remain applicable to every ethnographic research interested in embodied experiences of human beings, especially these in which the main research topic is physical, e.g., sport activity, bodywork, and work with the body. The author analyses relations between embodiment of particular actions taken by the researched subjects and embodiment of the research process. She raises the problem of transition between the researcher’s identity and the social world participant’s identity – searching for the possibility of using autoethnography in the process of data gathering and analyzing. Finally, she presents three aspects of the body/embodiment in the ethnographic research, referring them to the studied subjects (climbers) and to the researcher: (a) the body as an agent, (b) the embodied experience, (c) the body as a subject of theorizing and reflections. The author emphasizes the embodied nature of research process – especially in the ethnographic studies – and suggests taking into consideration the embodiment of the researcher and the role of the body in the process of knowledge production.

Koncepcja badania tworzywa językowego tekstów literatury przy utrzymywaniu w procesie badawczym stałej relacji w obrębie triady: pisarz – tworzywo językowe – tekst oraz pisarz – tekst – badacz. Dominantą jest postrzeganie pisarza nie tylko jako autora i kreatora tekstu, nadawcę komunikatu, twórcę oryginalnego warsztatu pisarskiego, ale również jako jednostkę ludzką, egzystującą w określonym czasie i miejscu/miejscach, osobowość o konkretnej tożsamości, obdarzoną swoistymi właściwościami, posiadającą sobie właściwe: wiedzę, doświadczenia, upodobania, poglądy, preferencje i emocje. Pisarz jest twórcą tekstu a badacz powinien uszanować jego prawa autorskie, ale jednocześnie jak najlepiej ukazać wszystko to, co pisarz zawał w swoim tekście.
The concept of researching linguistic material of literary texts while in the research process maintaining the constant relation within the triad of ‘writer – linguistic material – text’ and the one of ‘writer – text – researcher’. The dominant element is perceiving the writer not only as the author and creator of the text, the sender of the message, and the creator of an original literary workshop, but also as a human being existing at a specific time and place/places, a personality with a specific identity, with specific features and characteristics such as a certain level of knowledge, experience, preferences, views and emotions. The writer is the creator of the text and the researcher should respect his or her copyrights, but – at the same time – should present everything the writer has included in his or her text in the best possible way.

Autor artykułu stawia tezę, że dynamicznie rozkrzewiające się badania jakościowe nie mogą uwolnić się od metodologicznej tradycji pozytywizmu, a projekty badawcze realizowane przez badaczy społecznych często wpadają w scjentystyczne pułapki. W rezultacie badania jakościowe nierzadko stają się rewersem badań ilościowych. Dzieje się tak, ponieważ badacze nie są w stanie uwolnić się od kulturowej matrycy modernizmu, której są „nosicielami” i której składowe, na ogół nieświadomie wciąż aplikują do badania społeczeństw ponowoczesnych.
The author of the article states that the dynamically springing up qualitative research cannot free itself from the methodological tradition of positivism and the research projects carried out by social researchers very often fall into scientistic traps. As a result, the qualitative research frequently becomes the reverse of quantitative research. It happens so, because the researchers are not able to free themselves from the cultural matrix of modernism, whose “carriers” they are and whose components, usually unconsciously, they apply to their research on post-modern societies.

This paper discusses the ongoing evolution of research into poverty, with the profound and thorough reformulation of the researcher–respondent relationship, which has blurred the distinction between the researcher and research subject. The researcher–respondent roles have merged, turning the research subject into the agent and respondents into researchers inquiring into their own conditions. This process has evolved through the first British ‘second-hand’ inquiries into poverty, analyses of personal documents (diaries), oral history traditions, the family histories presented by Oscar Lewis, personal accounts, monographs of communities, and recent participatory approaches to poverty research such as the ‘Poverty First Hand’ project.

Scholarly publication is a leading requirement for the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program. Publishing articles, therefore, has become an appealing expectation for early-stage doctoral researchers (ESDRs). However, little has been done to address the dynamic relationship between the PhD and the academic publication system. The purpose of this study is to understand the intricately intertwined structures of PhD study and to explore the challenges related to scholarly publication. A group discussion method was deployed for data collection by recruiting international ESDRs (n=15) from three different countries. Primary results indicate that common anxiety is associated with the requirement to publish in high impact factor journals as well as the publication process. Quality supervision is recognized as inevitable to improve a mentor-mentee relationship and was found helpful in reducing the barriers to scientific publication. Moreover, the dominant structural factors of PhD study determine the ESDRs’ decision-making. The study suggests that the PhD study should remain research-intensive rather than simply for the sake of obtaining a higher qualification.
