    When an interviewee proclaims that she/he supported cultural and ethnic plurality, but then proceeds to argue that immigrants did not really fit into her/his homogeneous society, the effect is baffling. This article analyses these apparently paradoxical accounts in order to explore why concepts of homogeneity were being referred to. Thus case-studies of individuals engaged in civil society immigrant-support organizations are presented based on problem-centred interviews conducted in Beppu (Japan) and Halle/ Saale (Germany). Employing methods of qualitative data content analysis this article argues that concepts of homogeneity may appeal to plurality-supporters in order to protect ambitious self-images.

    The main assumption of this text is that being a parent can create an opportunity to learn. From an andragogical perspective this assumption refers to the key issue which is the answer about the mechanism of learning experience creation. The way the author chooses to consider this problem is phenomenography research on what adult people have experienced being a mother or father in their lives and what they have learnt in this situation. The main instrument of their learning experience description is the concept of upbringing identified through the prism of the following questions: What does it mean that you are a parent? How do you know how to create a relation with your child? What in your opinion is the success and failure in your parenting? In the end this small project demonstrates that instrumentality is the domain form of the description of parents’ thinking about children and reality in which they exist. That is why the author asks about the potential of cultural foundation in the formation of the learning experience.
    Głównym założeniem przyjętym w niniejszym artykule jest to, że doświadczenie bycia rodzicem jest jednym z tych, które tworzy szansę dorosłym na uczenie się. W tym sensie autorka nawiązuje do kluczowego w andragogice zagadnienia dotyczącego mechanizmu kształtowania doświadczeń uczących (learning experience). Aby spróbować się z nim zmierzyć, przeprowadziła ona badanie fenomenograficzne dotyczące tego, czego dorośli doświadczają będąc rodzicami, a w konsekwencji czego się uczą będąc w tej sytuacji. Proste pytania typu: co to znaczy według ciebie być rodzicem, skąd wiesz jak wychowywać własne dziecko, czym jest dla ciebie sukces, a czym porażka w wychowaniu, stały się inspiracją dla rodzicielskich wypowiedzi. W rezultacie ich analizy wyłoniono kilka koncepcji wychowania, których wspólnym fundamentem – jak się okazuje – jest instrumentalizm w myśleniu o dzieciach i o świecie, w którym funkcjonują, ale także o sobie i własnym uczeniu się. Dlatego na koniec autorka pyta, czy nie jest tak, że ów instrumentalizm jest cechą naszej kultury i przekłada się na rozumienie tego, co jest uczące w naszym życiu, czyli – mówiąc językiem andragogów – na rozumienie uczącego potencjału naszych doświadczeń.

    The social and behavioral sciences need distinctive concepts to escape entrapment in cultural assumptions. Currently there are several sources for concepts, but vernacular words are most frequently used. These words are usually ambiguous and may reaffirm the status quo. This essay proposes that a new approach is implied in Goffman’s work. Most of the new terms he invented went undefined. However, he can be seen as struggling in much of his writing to develop two basic components of the “looking-glass self,” awareness structures and embarrassment. His method seems to have involved using many vernacular cognates and close examination of detailed examples of each concept. The implication is that it might be possible to ground concepts by 1. Listing and examining links to vernacular and technical cognates, and 2. Closely exploring many concrete examples. A study of one type of awareness structure, collective denial (Zerubavel 2006), can also be used to illustrate the potential of this method.

    This article describes selected results of the research on current children which was done in years 2016-2017. The research is focused on exploring the social space of current children - home, leisure time, games and their relation to selected social attributes - desires and pleasures, ambitions, fears and worries. Then we examine concepts of adults about children in these areas. The research sample consists of 96 children aged 5-7 years and 188 adults. The research method is a semi-structured micro-interview for children and questionnaire for adults. In this article the author presents interpretation of research results - the desires, the pleasures, the fears and the worries of the current children in comparison with the concepts of adults.

    This article claims that the legacy of European imperialism and colonialism in Africa can be conceptually compared to the legacy of Russian and Soviet imperialism and colonialism in the former USSR republics and the nations of Central and Easter Europe that were under Soviet dominations. Despite the obvious fact that the historical conditions and paths of African nations that were colonized, repressed and ruled by the European empires differ significantly from the experience of the nations of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, that were conquered and colonized by the Russian Empire and later on were subjects to the Soviet rule, it is suggested in this article, that the conceptual lessons drawn from the vast literature dedicated to the studies of the aftermath of colonialism in Africa can enrich the scholarly efforts aimed at understanding the post-soviet spaces and different processes in it. What is meant by “conceptual lessons” is methodological opportunity for a different perspective or even a different lens through which the legacy of the Soviet rule and the current Russian neo-imperial foreign politics can be better understood. Much is written about the European imperialism and its colonial policies, however there is still some reluctance in applying the methodological framework of postcolonial studies to the former Soviet Union and present day Russia. Scholars all over the world studied the colonial legacies that African nations struggled to overcome and there are topics of particular relevance to the study of the post-soviet space: the processes of post-colonial nation building, the roles of new national elites, the ideological choices in foreign policies of newly independent nations, the aftermath of the policies of assimilation, the imperial “ideologies of superiority”, the economic consequences of colonialism, the role of churches and religious organizations in supporting colonial suppression – as conceptual topics, all of them can be studied critically, also in a comparative perspective, to have a much better understanding of the former soviet and current Russian foreign politics and policies.

    The goal of the work is to show the character and dynamics of changes in the environment of companies and market institutions and highlight the directions in which marketing strategies are going as a response to the new challenges. A detailed area of analysis is the R&D sector. Institutions from this sector have to adapt their activities to the requirements of the environment by using the concept of relationship marketing and the concept of customer value management. In the work secondary sources of information in form of specialist publications, research results of specialized agencies and the results of the author’s own research were used. Moreover, the work includes two examples presenting the models of functioning on the R&D market, based on modern organization and marketing solutions.

    W artykule dokonuje się analizy porównawczej różnych klasyfikacji paradygmatów nauki i nauk o zarządzaniu w aspekcie ich pragmatyczności i odpowiedniości odnośnie do badań organizacji oraz uzasadnia tezę o wysokiej użyteczności modelu badawczego zaproponowanego przez Kenetha D. Stranga. Model Stranga, oparty na koncepcji ideologii badawczych, pozwala na pokonanie teoretycznej niewspółmierności i współpracę przedstawicieli różnych paradygmatów. Artykuł zawiera ponadto refleksje odnośnie do paradygmatu jako kluczowego czynnika wpływającego zarówno na rozwój nauk o zarządzaniu, jak i na działania praktyczne w organizacjach. Wybór określonego paradygmatu, tj. ideologii badawczej, ma decydujący wpływ na wyniki badań, a także uogólnienia praktyki. Paradygmat określa strategię badawczą, dobór metod badawczych i reguł wnioskowania. Ma on też wpływ na proces edukacji, a co za tym idzie ma swój udział w kształtowaniu światopoglądu naukowców, przedsiębiorców i menedżerów.
    The article presents a comparative analysis of various classifications of both sciences’ and management sciences’ paradigms in terms of their pragmatism and adequacy regarding organization research. Furthermore, the aim of the article is also to justify the thesis about the high usefulness of research model proposed by Keneth D. Strang. Strang’s model, based on the concept of researcher’s socio-cultural philosophy, allows on the one hand to overcome the theoretical incommensurability and on the other hand makes it possible for representatives of various paradigms to cooperate with each other. The article contains also reflections on the paradigm as a key factor affecting both the development of management sciences and the practice of management. The choice of a specific paradigm, i.e. research ideology, has a decisive impact on the results of research, as well as the generalization of practice. The paradigm defines the research strategy, selection of research methods and inference rules. Furthermore, it influences the education process, and thus has an impact on shaping the worldview of scientists, entrepreneurs as well as managers.

    Od momentu pojawienia się koncepcji marketingu usług przechodzi ona nieustającą ewolucję. Pojawiające się nowe trendy (m.in. Service-Dominant Logic, Service Logic, New Service Marketing) i obszary badań marketingu usług (np. Transformative Service Research) skłaniają do dokonywania podsumowań pewnego etapu rozwoju i stawiania pytań, w którym kierunku powinny podążać badania marketingu usług w przyszłości. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie obecnych trendów w marketingu usług, a także wskazanie przyszłych priorytetowych kierunków badań w tym obszarze. Artykuł ma charakter koncepcyjny i oparty jest na analizie najnowszej literatury przedmiotu.
    The beginning of interest in services marketing in the world dates back to the 1970s, when it was found that services differed greatly from material products and required different marketing tools. Since then, concepts and tools have undergone evolution until they have voiced that the differences between tangible and intangible goods are so eroded that services marketing should apply to all businesses, regardless of what products (material or intangible) they offer. The emerging new concepts (such as Service-Dominant Logic, Service Logic, New Service Marketing) and services marketing research areas (e.g. Transforma questions in which direction should the research of services marketing follow in the future. The aim of the article is to present the new concepts and current trends in services marketing in the world, as well as to indicate the future priority research directions in this area. This article is conceptual and is based on an analysis of the latest subject literature.
    С момента появления концепции маркетинга услуг она проходит непрерывную эволюцию. Появляющиеся новые тренды (напр. Service-Dominant Logic, Service Logic, New Service Marketing) и области изучения маркетинга услуг (напр. Transformative Service Research) склоняют к подведению итогов определенного этапа развития и к тому, чтобы задавать вопросы, в каком направлении должно идти изучение маркетинга услуг в будущем. Цель статьи – представить нынешние тренды в маркетинге услуг, а также указать будущие приоритетные направления изучения в этой области. Статья имеет концептуальный характер и она основана на анализе новейшей литературы предмета.

    Artykuł stanowi pierwsze z cyklu trzech opracowań odnoszących się do problematyki perspektyw rozwoju marketingu uwzględniającej aspekty nauki, dydaktyki oraz praktyki. Zamieszczono w nim szereg konkluzji dotyczących współczesnych koncepcji marketingu i perspektyw rozwoju tej dyscypliny nauki z uwzględnieniem kwestii teoretycznych podstaw i założeń koncepcyjnych dotyczących marketingu w kontekście kryzysu ekonomii. Przedstawiono ponadto problematykę sprawności marketingu w perspektywie skuteczności, efektywności i produktywności. Poruszono problem badań marketingowych, ich poprawności i rzetelności. W artykule zwrócono także uwagę na proces ewolucji w obszarze komunikacji marketingowej.
    The paper constitutes the first from three parts of discussion dealing with problems of perspectives of marketing development, taking into account science, didactics and practice. There were presented some conclusions concerning modern concepts of marketing and perspectives of development of the science, covering theoretical bases and assumptions about marketing in the context of crisis of economics. Moreover, problems of efficiency, effectiveness and productivity of marketing were discussed. The problem of marketing research, its correctness and reliability was taken into account as well. The paper also pays attention to evolution in the sphere of marketing communication.
    Статья представляет собой первую из цикла трех разработок, касающихся проблематики перспектив развития маркетинга, учитывая аспекты науки, дидактики и практики. В ней по- местили ряд выводов, касающихся современных концепций маркетинга и перспектив развития этой дисциплины науки с учетом вопроса теоретических основ и концептуальных предпосылок, касающихся маркетинга в контексте кризиса экономии. Кроме того, представили проблематику эффективности маркетинга в перспективе результативности, эффективности и производительности. Затронули вопрос маркетинговых действий, их правильности и достоверности. В статье обратили тоже внимание на процесс эволюции в области маркетинговой коммуникации.

    Praca zawiera pogłębioną refleksją nad kwestią badań funkcjonalnych w geograficznych badaniach wsi oraz dyscyplin pokrewnych, głównie gospodarka przestrzenna. W geografii społeczno-ekonomicznej oraz gospodarce przestrzennej koncepcja funkcjonalna odegrała istotną rolę w opisie i wyjaśnianiu rzeczywistości, stwarzając podstawy dla programów badawczych miast i wsi. Najważniejszym celem artykułu jest próba określenia podstawowych dylematów poznawczych i praktycznych w badaniach funkcjonalnych wsi. Przemyślenia zawarte w artykule dotyczą problemu wyborów, przed którymi stają badacze w projektowaniu i prowadzeniu studiów funkcjonalnych oraz pokrewnych im kierunków. Poruszono takie kwestie, jak relacyjność i desygnaty funkcji, problem czasu i skali badań oraz dylemat porządku przestrzennego i spójności. Autorzy postulują rozwój koncepcji krytycznych opartych na neofunkcjonalizmie. Stwarza to możliwość rozwoju badań, które zwracają uwagę na lokalne wymiary życia społecznego i gospodarczego. Podejście to może być bardzo twórcze dla planowania przestrzeni lokalnych i podstaw społecznego zaangażowania w proces podnoszenia warunków życia, wzmacniania tożsamości kulturowej oraz kreowania samych miejsc.
    The content of the work includes an in-depth reflection on the issue of functional research in geographical studies of rural areas and related disciplines (mainly spatial management). In human geography and spatial management, the functional concept has played an important role in describing and explaining reality, laying the foundations for various research programs. The most important goal of the paper is an attempt to identify the basic cognitive and practical dilemmas in functional studies of rural areas. The considerations contained in the article concern the problems of choices faced by researchers in designing and conducting functional studies and related fields of study. Issues such as relationality and function designations, the problem of time and scale of research, and the dilemma of spatial order and coherence were raised. The development of critical concepts based on neofunctionalism is postulated. This creates an opportunity to develop research that draws attention to the local dimensions of social and economic life. This approach can be very creative for planning local spaces and social involvement in the process of improving living conditions, strengthening cultural identity and creating the places themselves.

    The origin of maritime research lies in a multi‐disciplinary approach. The philosophical grounding for academic research inherently shapes the methodological approach, data collection methods adopted, and analysis techniques deployed. Thus, there is a need for an insight into the philosophical underpinnings of maritime research for better understanding of research design in maritime context. The paper will examine social science and its grounding in philosophical concepts for qualitative research, and the relevance of philosophical approach to ‘values’ in social science, to maritime research by using qualitative methods. The aim is to apprise the novice maritime researchers ‐ in simplistic language, about the philosophical approach to values, as an alternative to complex descriptions of concepts available in philosophical articles and references.

    Recent years have seen tremendous growth of interest in narrative approaches to research in both the social sciences and the humanities. Much of this research focuses on the stories of individuals and how they tell them. This article addresses the contribution of a symbolic interactionist approach to develop the “collective story” (Richardson 1990) through the use of sensitizing concepts. It focuses on research on the experience of widows, widowers, and Iranian Bahá’í refugees to Canada to demonstrate how one can use sensitizing concepts to craft a collective story of members of marginalized populations that sit at the bottom of the “hierarchy of credibility” (Becker 1967).

    In the current paper chosen interrelations of psychoanalysis and scientific research are presented. The main focus of the study was on the significance of psychoanalytic inspiration in conducting research interviews, creating the conditions of data gathering (projective situation), and drawing on interpersonal relationship between an interviewer and an interviewee. As a result of qualitative research literature review, three areas of the interview development were proposed: 1) to go beyond simple verbatim transcript (to collect non-verbal information as a source of emotional-relational aspect of the interviewee’s speech); 2) to go beyond the perspective of the research participant’s perspective as the source of information (to collect the introspective data form the interviewer about the relationship that was experienced during the interview); 3) to compare the information from different sources and the readiness to search for well justified patterns of data (especially comparing the data derived from the interviewee and interviewer both in verbal and non-verbal aspects). The preliminary attempt was to discuss such issues as: ways of non-verbal data collection, transference and countertransference analysis in research interview, the specificity of diagnostic and research interview.

    W artykule przedstawiono genezę oraz podstawowe koncepcje zarządzania mediami. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest wykazanie odmienności zarządzania organizacjami medialnymi, która wynika z dwóch przesłanek: ich odmiennej, dualnej natury oraz właściwości informacji, podstawowego zasobu, jakim „gospodarują” organizacje medialne. W artykule postawiono dwie tezy: 1) podstawowe dobro współczesnego świata, jakim jest informacja, wymaga nowych sposobów zarządzania; dotyczy to zwłaszcza organizacji medialnych; 2) zmiana sposobów zarządzania w organizacjach medialnych wymaga kadr o innej wiedzy i predyspozycjach, a to wymaga nowych sposobów kształcenia. Postawione tezy wskazują, że analiza zarządzania mediami może być dokonywana na gruncie nauk humanistycznych, zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do mediów publicznych.
    The article describes basic concepts of carrying out research and defining media management. Research determinants and specification of given research area have been denoted, including information as primary stock being ‘utilized’ by media organizations. One introduced basic Polish and international research areas related to media management. Distinctness of attitude towards public and commercial media enterprises has been emphasized. The article verified two theses: 1. information, being basic good of contemporary world, requires new ways of management; it concerns especially media organizations; 2. the change of ways in which media organizations are managed requires staff possessing different than until now predispositions, knowledge and skills, which in turn, necessitates new ways of education.

    The article is devoted to defin the conceptual foundations of the study of socio-cultural lines of study literary reading of 5th grade students in the schools of national minorities of Ukraine. The purpose of the study is to identify the conceptual foundations of teaching literary reading in the schools of national minorities of Ukraine (in the framework of socio-cultural lines). Research methods. The main method of creating concepts was the inductive method, and the theoretical methods such as the analysis of philosophical, literary, methodological, psychological and pedagogical literature. The use of empirical methods are limited, among them, a pilot experiment was the main method. A didactic study of the implementation of socio-cultural lines in the context of teaching literary reading involves the deployment of conceptual research in three areas: methodological, theoretical and practical fields. In methodological concept, the status categories of activity and personality are defined. The doctrine of the activities of AK toils the value of different types of teachers and children’s activities, in particular training, their decisive role in the formation of personality in the process of literary reading in Ukrainian language. Understanding the nature of "the identity of the student" requires a teacher of literary reading of the 5th grade students of schools with national languages, in the learning process, to give the instruction for the personal self-development and self-realization through activity and communication in various social environments. The theoretical concept (general scientific and specifically-scientific concept) reflects the relationship and interaction of the various theories, approaches and principles of General scientific and specifically scientific nature in relation to the study of problems of implementation of socio-cultural lines of study of literary reading. The basic idea for solving the problem of realization of socio-cultural lines of study literary reading of the 5thgrade students in schools with national languages of instruction at the application level is to focus educational activities on creation of conditions for proper formation of sociocultural competence of the student through the discovery of the essential forces students to process their own activity and communication with adults and other children. Results: the study concept represented through three interrelated concepts – methodological, theoretical and applied, comprehensively ensures the implementation of the main idea of the study.
