- Improvement of the quality of habitats has increased the importance of forest stands in the regeneration phase. This period can be divided into two management sub−stages: sowing and cleaning phases. In the forest management practice, such stand category is characterized only by total area and growing stock. Double−feature (area, volume) table shows more complete characterization of age classes, which ranks the stands of this category with regard to their age and percentage of the area covered by the regeneration. The table can be used to determine the order of stand selection for felling. Too slow removal of old−growth stands is found to delay the exposure of the usually overgrown regenerations, often causing their damage in the process of forest utilisation or due to the lack of shelter from the wind−fallen trees. The existing management rules for the stands in this category should be changed.
