l-menthol has been widely used in flavour, food and pharmaceuticals. Because of its high volatility and whisker growth, l-menthol-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex was produced to improve shelf-life, provide protection, and enhance the stability of l-menthol. The inclusion complex was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction. The results show that l-menthol was successfully encapsulated in hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin. l-menthol loading capacity is about 8.44%. Geometries and binding energies of l-menthol-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complexes were investigated using molecular mechanics calculations. The shape and orientation of the most stable complex, and the minimum binding energy were determined. L-menthol release from complex was determined by thermogravimetric analysis. Two l-menthol release rate peaks were observed at 69.3 and 279.1°C. The l-menthol release reaction order, release activation energy and the preexponential factor were obtained.

The paper presents the results of research of the influence of clogged injector nozzles in fuel injection system on the shape of heat release characteristics. The study was conducted on a laboratory four-stroke marine engine, type Sulzer 3Al 25/30, with nominal power Ne = 408 kW at nominal rotational speed n = 750 rpm. The study was carried out according to active experiment plan, during which the engine failure of the injection system was simulated. Simulation of loss of patency of injector nozzles (clogged) was to completely clog two holes of nine injection injector nozzle holes with a diameter of 0,325 mm. Measurements were made at a constant engine speed of 750 rev/min for five loads: 50, 100, 150, 200, 250 kW. Measurements of pressure of combustion were performed by means of tensometric sensors of Spice Company. Based on measured pressure curves heat release characteristics were determined. The algorithm allows the determination of net heat release rate q and the net generated heat Q characteristics. Based on the obtained results it can be concluded that significant improvement in the diagnostic use of indicator diagrams can be obtained by using heat release characteristics. These characteristics are correlated with the process of fuel injection and the injection pump operation. As demonstrated in the work of analysing the heat release rate q, it is possible to infer diagnosis on the technical condition of the fuel injection system.

The paper analyzes the factors influencing the quantity and quality of diagnostic information obtained by engine indication with electronic indicators and pressures analyzers. Amount of information obtained virtually unchanged since the advent of the first construction pressure analyzers produced by Autronica and ABB Company. In many cases, the value of the maximum combustion and compression pressures, can be measured using these devices with sufficient accuracy and reliability, is if ignition occurs after piston TDC. Determination of the mean indicated pressure, compression ratio and heat release characteristics required to develop a method of TDC determination on the indicator diagrams, generate reliable angular axes in real time and pressure sensors of sufficient accuracy. It should be noted that in the latest solution of ABB system, a correction of thermodynamic loss angle and combustion pressure sensors of high accuracy were introduced. For marine diesel engines diagnosis, the pressure sensor measuring sustainability is important because of the ability to create trends of specific diagnostic parameters, which may constitute an additional, important source of diagnostic information. The paper presents an overview of currently available pressure sensors that can be used during marine engines indication. Most important issues related to the pressure measurement on indicator valves were characterized. An assessment of the gas channels and the quality of the angular axis impact for the parameters of indicator graphs was done.

The article discusses the problem of determining the characteristics of heat release based on experimental indicator diagram for diagnostic purposes. The importance of the operational diagnosis of marine engines is the analysis of indicator diagrams was identified. In addition to analysing changes in the values of indicated, should be aimed to oriented broader analysis, including the determination on the basis of experimental indicator diagram of heat release characteristics during the combustion process. Then it is essential to choose the right model of heat release for reciprocating piston engines with direct fuel injection. In the diagnostics of piston engines, including marine engines, special interest arouses use single-zone model based on indicator diagrams as a source of information. Based on the results their own research we analysed the impact on the characteristics of heat release of simplifying assumptions in the model of heat release, including constant value adiabatic exponent. In the temperature, range 300÷2800 K waveformsκ are considered to be linearly dependent on the temperature. Based on the above, for the gas temperature from 800 K to 1850 K value of the exponent κ decreases about 3%. The effect of the value κ on the course of characteristics q and Q, to the typical marine engines was shown.

The article analyses the possibility of using the electronic type indicators, in the diagnosis of marine engines. The analysis of indicated parameters read from the indicator diagram is now widely use on ships in the diagnosis of marine engines. To make this possible, measuring indicated systems should meet a number of important requirements to be met to ensure the possibility of their diagnostic use. These include reliable determination of the top dead centre piston (TDC). The above is particularly important in in-depth analysis of indicator diagrams − calculating the heat release characteristics. The paper presents results of research on the effect of the error on the accuracy of the location of TDC (GMP) on calculated heat release characteristics. In order to demonstrate the impact positional error TDC, simulation study was conducted in which indicated diagrams was used, obtained on a medium-speed four-stroke marine engine type A25/30 and the low-speed two-stroke engine type RTA76, Sulzer Company.

In the near future, natural gas may become a fuel, which will see increased use in powering internal combustion engines. Due to its properties, it can be used to power spark-ignition engines without major obstacles. Yet using natural gas to power compression-ignition engines proves to be more difficult. One of the possibilities are the dual-fuel compression-ignition engines running with gas fuel and diesel fuel, enabling ignition through compression and combustion of gas fuel. The article presents the heat release characteristics of the Perkins 1104D-E44TA engine powered by compressed natural gas and diesel fuel. Characteristics of heat release are an image of the combustion process. They affect the engine performance indicators. The determined heat release characteristics for a dual-fuel-powered engine were compared with the heat release characteristics for a diesel engine under the same operating conditions. An analysis of heat release characteristics was carried in the scope of their influence on the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust of the tested engine. The effect of the relative amount of heat released and the heat release rate during the combustion process in the Perkins 1104D-E44TA engine cylinder running dual-fuel with CNG+diesel on the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust, as compared to the values measured when running with diesel fuel only, was demonstrated. Higher share of natural gas in the total amount of energy supplied to the engine cylinders results in greater differences in the course of the combustion process and result in a greater reduction in the concentration of nitrogen oxides in the exhaust of the tested engine.

This article gives a comprehensive study of the detonation reaction-zone (DRZ) and energy release characteristics of a cast HMX-based polymer-bonded explosive, PBX-91C, which has been demonstrated in our previous study to be an insensitive explosive. The DRZ of PBX-91C was studied by the impedance window method; the detonation reaction time, DRZ length, and detonation pressure were obtained. The cylinder test was employed to evaluate the acceleration ability of PBX-91C, the Gurney velocity and the parameters of the Jones-Wilkins-Lee (JWL) equation of state (EOS) for PBX-91C. The shock overpressure test was carried out to evaluate the energy release characteristics of PBX-91C in free-field; TNT was also tested for comparison. On the basis of the parameters of the JWL EOS determined by the cylinder test, three-dimensional numerical simulations of the shock overpressure tests were conducted. The results showed that PBX-91C is substantially more powerful than TNT; moreover, the energy release of PBX-91C is more rapid. All of these results suggest that the detonation performance of PBX-91C is close to that of RDX. PBX-91C can be a good candidate for main charges as it has both high energy and low sensitivity.

The main goal of the present work was to check whether it is possible to use a thermochemical model to predict the heat of combustion of new RDX-based propellants and to determine which calculation conditions ensure that the calculated heat obtained is close to the calorimetric value. Calorimetric measurements of the heat of combustion of selected new RDX-based propellants were carried out and their combustion characteristics were also obtained by thermochemical calculations. The combustion heats determined experimentally and theoretically were compared. On the basis of an analysis of the results obtained, the influence of the temperature of “freezing” of the composition of the combustion products on the calculated combustion heat was checked. The ballistic parameters of the tested propellants were also calculated.

Marine engines are very complex technical objects, having many important functional systems, which include, inter alia, injection system, characterized by high unreliability. In this system, there may be different types of defects (damage) that affect the engine parameters, including specific fuel consumption, as well as failures endanger the safety of the ship. The indicator diagrams and analysis of indicated parameters have limited utility in the diagnosis of damages of marine engine, although this is a method commonly used in operational practice. To achieve greater diagnostic effectiveness, when, based on indicator diagrams, are calculated and then the characteristics of heat release is analysed - net of heat release characteristics and the intensity of the heat release, it was demonstrated. This procedure is particularly effective in the diagnosis of damages of marine diesel engine injection system components. It has been shown that the characteristics of heat release contain information about the condition of the injection systems, which enable to diagnose their failures. This is shown on the example of a clogged nozzle holes (their carbonizations). The obtained results allowed selecting the diagnosis symptoms, useful in detecting these faults in the injection system, from the characteristics of heat release: net heat release (Q) and intensity of heat release (q). The object of the research was typical marine medium speed engine Sulzer A25/30.

The paper presents the issues related to the diagnosis of injection system marine diesel engines, which are characterized by high unreliability. It was supported by the statistics of emergency events marine engines. It has been shown that the not only parameters of the diesel engine depends on the reliable operation of injection equipment but also the safety of navigation. This indicates the importance of diagnostics injection system, giving the ability to detect defects at the early stage of their development, in order to avoid failure. This has been demonstrated on the example of the injection system leak detection. The article discusses the possibility of using in the heat release characteristics calculated based on the indicator diagram in the marine engine injection system diagnostics. It has been shown that the characteristics of heat release contain information about the condition of the injection systems, which enable to diagnose their failures. The obtained results allowed to select the diagnosis symptoms, useful in detecting faults in the injection system, from the characteristics of heat release.
W artykule przedstawiono problematykę związaną z diagnostyką aparatury wtryskowej silników okrętowych, które należą do najbardziej zawodnych układów funkcjonalnych tych silników. Poparte to zostało danymi statystycznymi zdarzeń awaryjnych silników okrętowych. Wykazano, że od niezawodnego działania aparatury wtryskowej zależą nie tylko parametry pracy silnika, ale także bezpieczeństwo żeglugi. Wskazuje to jak istotne znaczenie ma diagnostyka układów wtryskowych, dająca możliwość wykrywania uszkodzeń na wczesnym etapie ich rozwoju, aby nie dopuścić do awarii. W artykule omówiono możliwość wykorzystania w diagnostyce układu wtryskowego silnika okrętowego charakterystyk wydzielania ciepła wyznaczanych w oparciu o wykres indykatorowy. Wykazano, że charakterystyki wydzielania ciepła zawierają informacje o stanie technicznym układów wtryskowych, umożliwiające diagnozowanie ich uszkodzeń. Uzyskane wyniki badań pozwoliły na wyłonienie z charakterystyk wydzielania ciepła symptomów diagnostycznych przydatnych w wykrywaniu uszkodzeń w układzie wtryskowym, co wykazano na przykładzie wykrywania nieszczelności układu wtryskowego.

A major problem for the diagnostic use of the indicator diagram is the pressure sensor location. Indicator channel and valve may bring in significant distortions in the resulting pressure. The paper presents results of research conducted on the medium speed laboratory engine Al 25/30. Indication was made by the sensor placed directly in the cylinder (instead of starting air valve), before the indicator valve (with special Kistler adapter) and on the indicator valve. During the research the course of heat release rate q and the heat released Q were determined. Distortion of heat release characteristics for the sensor placed in the indicator valve is important, but it is estimated that diagnostic information is not lost. Influence of the pressure sensor location can be significantly reduced by proper adjustment of the TDC position.
Jednym z głównych problemów diagnostycznego wykorzystania wykresów indykatorowych jest miejsce umieszczenia czujnika ciśnienia. Kanały oraz zawory indykatorowe są źródłem istotnych zakłóceń pomiarowych. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczących miejsca zamocowania czujnika ciśnienia spalania na silniku laboratoryjnym Sulzer Al25/30. Czujniki ciśnienia zostały umieszczony bezpośrednio w cylindrze (w miejsce zaworu startowego), przed zaworem indykatorowym oraz na zaworze indykatorowym. Oprócz podstawowych parametrów indykowanych na podstawie wykresów indykatorowych wyznaczono przebieg charakterystyk prędkości wydzielania ciepła oraz ciepła wydzielonego. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników badań stwierdzono, że kanały gazowe silników średnioobrotowych wnoszą znaczące opóźnienia sygnałów ciśnienia i deformacje wykresów indykatorowych, jednak możliwe jest w dalszym ciągu ich diagnostyczne wykorzystanie. Wpływ lokalizacji czujnika ciśnienia może być istotnie zmniejszony poprzez prawidłową korektę położenia GMP.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań wpływu wybranych uszkodzeń układu wtryskowego silnika okrętowego na przebieg charakterystyk wydzielania ciepła. Badania przeprowadzono na laboratoryjnym silniku Sulzer typu Al25/30. Doświadczenie zrealizowano zgodnie z planem eksperymentu czynnego, podczas którego symulowano wybrane uszkodzenia układu wtryskowego. Indykowanie silnika wykonano za pomocą tensometrycznych czujników spalania firmy Spice. Wykorzystując uzyskane wykresy indykatorowe wyznaczono charakterystyki wydzielania ciepła. Zastosowania algorytmy umożliwia obliczenia szybkości wydzielania ciepła q oraz ciepła wydzielonego Q. W oparciu o uzyskane wyniki badań można stwierdzić, zastosowanie charakterystyk wydzielania ciepła, może w sposób istotny wpłynąć na podatność diagnostyczną wykresów indykatorowych. Potwierdzono istotną korelację pomiędzy działaniem układu wtryskowego a przebiegiem tych charakterystyk. W oparciu o uzyskane przebiegi szybkości wydzielania ciepła, możliwe diagnozowania badanych uszkodzeń układu wtryskowego.

Opis:
In order to determine indicator diagrams-based heat release characteristics, a single- zone model of net heat release was used for perfect gas. It was proved that when a constant value for isentropic exponent is assumed, the error in determining the characteristics can be limited to 1% at the nominal load. The effect of errors in determining the position of piston TDC, as well as that of gas passages and indicator valves on the calculated characteristics was evaluated. It was shown that for low-speed engines the effect of gas passages in negligible, while for medium-speed engines the characteristics reveal some deformations (waves), which are repeatable for an individual cylinder in the examined engine construction. The results of the performed investigations and analyses suggest possibility and advisability of the use of heat release characteristics in diagnosing ship engines, in particular low-speed machines.

W artykule przedstawiono zagrożenia stwarzane przez wybrane środki ochrony roślin stosowane w rolnictwie zawierające substancje aktywne z grupy pyretroidów (lambda-cyhalotryna, beta-cyflutryna i deltametryna), które wytypowano na podstawie rejestru środków ochrony roślin dopuszczonych do obrotu zezwoleniem Ministra Rolnictwa i Rozwoju Wsi [1, 2]. Wyznaczono parametry wybuchowe stwarzane przez obłoki pyłów wybranych substancji i preparatów oraz zakwalifikowano je do odpowiednich klas wybuchowości [3, 4]. W zakresie zagrożenia pożarowego metodą kalorymetru stożkowego przy poziomym ułożeniu próbki przy obecności palnika pilotowego określono szybkość wydzielania ciepła [5].
The article presents the threats posed by selected plant protection products used in agriculture containing active substances from the pyrethroid group (lambda-cyhalothrin, beta-cyfluthrin and deltamethrin), which were selected on the basis of the register of authorized plant protection products granted marketing authorization by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development [1, 2]. Explosive parameters created by dust clouds of selected substances and preparations were determined and classified in appropriate explosion classes [3, 4]. In terms of flammability danger, values of heat release rate were determined on the basis of calorimetric analysis of specimens exposed in the horizontal orientation to controlled levels of irradiation with an external igniter [5].
