Opis:
Many scholars today share a view of relational sociology as a processual-transactional approach whose basic tenet is the fluid, relativistic, contingent, transactional character of social relations. They invite sociologists to see our so-called objects (societies, institutions, social patterns, conflicts, social movements, social classes, etc.) in a processual way. In this contribution the author objects that relationalism offers a reductive vision of social reality, because it supports a flat social ontology rather than a stratified social ontology. Relationalism reduces relationships to pure flows, considering structures as purely contingent, while relational sociology attributes a structure to relationships and gives autonomy to structures, even if they are produced by processes. We have to distinguish between different orders of reality: the processual-interactional (relationalist) and the relational orders. To see all of this, it is necessary to assume a relational gaze that is only possible if a supra-functional, morphogenetic framework is adopted.

Opis:
This paper argues that neither the relational approach nor the non-relational approach to global justice is at once necessary and sufficient to deal with complex cases of global (in)justice. In this intervention in the dispute between relational and non-relational approaches, the aim of the paper is not to support one side and oppose the other, but to combine both approaches in order to arrive at a more robust approach. Using the strengths of the relational approach to compensate for the weaknesses of the non-relational approach and vice versa, the aim of the paper is to set out a mixed, combinatorial or synthetic approach that will be used to address complex cases of global (in)justice. Rather thandiscussing how the synthetic approach applies to a particular complex case of global (in)justice, the paper shows how a synthetic approach that intends to address complex cases of global (in)justice will look like. Perhaps, colloquially in Hegelian dialectics, the relational approach can be seen as a thesis, the non-relational approach as an antithesis and the combination of both approaches as a synthesis.

Opis:
The article is an attempt to show the essence of relational capital in the context of the environmental uncertainty. The problem is all the more important that, on the one hand, the uncertainty is a challenge for representatives of management sciences, on the other hand, it is an immanent feature of any business activity. There is a necessity to search for a remedy for the lack of information needed to make decisions and the inability to predict effects of the decisions taken. The aim of this article is to present the current theoretical achievements in terms of the essence of relational capital in the context of the uncertainty of the environment. The article is divided into three parts. The first of them is devoted to the essence of the environmental uncertainty. The second part concerns the nature of relational capital from the perspective of the resource approach. The third part is an attempt to present the essence of relational capital in the context of the environmental un-certainty. There are indicated capabilities of managing the uncertainty of the environment, which can be achieved through relational capital. The literature shows the deficit of scientific research (theoretical and empirical) referring to relational capital in the context of the uncertainty. Moreover, the existing acquis comprises interesting cognitive gaps which , when filled in, should contribute to a deeper understanding of relational capital versus the uncertainty of the environment - which is going to be the subject of the author's further research.

Opis:
Mentalization is a process of social cognition that involves making inferences about one’s own behavior and the behavior of other people on the basis of unobservable mental states. Particularly in psychodynamic approaches, mentalization is conceptualized in the context of activation of internal representation of emotional relationship. In this study, we checked whether mentalization constitutes a predictor of relational satisfaction in the context of one’s own and the partner’s specific attachment. The research sample was composed of 32 heterosexual couples living together for at least two years. Three tools were applied: the Mental State Task, Experiences in Close Relationships-Relationship Structures, and the Relationship Assessment Scale. The results indicate a strong negative effect of one’s own attachment anxiety and avoidance, and a strong effect of the partner’s attachment anxiety on the relationship satisfaction for both men and women. In women, the incremental validity of mentalization in predicting satisfaction in the relationship beyond the attachment of their partners has been observed. The results are discussed in the context of the intrapsychic and interpersonal aspects of mentalization and attachment.

Opis:
This paper presents implementations of a few selected SQL operations using the CUDA programming framework on the GPU platform. Nowadays, the GPU’s parallel architectures give a high speed-up on certain problems. Therefore, the number of non-graphical problems that can be run and sped-up on the GPU still increases. Especially, there has been a lot of research in data mining on GPUs. In many cases it proves the advantage of offloading processing from the CPU to the GPU. At the beginning of our project we chose the set of SELECT WHERE and SELECT JOIN instructions as the most common operations used in databases. We parallelized these SQL operations using three main mechanisms in CUDA: thread group hierarchy, shared memories, and barrier synchronization. Our results show that the implemented highly parallel SELECT WHERE and SELECT JOIN operations on the GPU platform can be significantly faster than the sequential one in a database system run on the CPU.

In addition, I briefly discuss the traditional concept of a quale.

This article presents - next to conceptualization considerations - the empirical research report on creating of the external relational capital as a strategic resource. On the basis of quantitative and qualitative research, conducted in 57 companies, authors positively verify the hypothesis, which assumes that there is a significant correlation between the intensity and quality of different kinds of relationships with business stakeholders in the economic environment and actual economic condition and future growth prospects. Additionally, authors suggest that executives managers very rarely use consciously and intentionally relational elements of capital as a medium in strengthening their strategic potential.

W pracy przedstawiono rozwiązanie problemu trwałości danych w implementowanym programie komputerowym BiOBKalkulator wspomagającym obliczenia i doradztwo w zakresie substytucji biomasą konwencjonalnych źródeł energii. Zaprojektowano i zaimplementowano mechanizmy obiektowej reprezentacji danych będących wartościami atomowymi, przedziałami wartości lub listami przedziałów lub wartości atomowych. Zamodelowano hierarchię klas reprezentujących konkretne urządzenia do przetwarzania i spalania biomasy z wykorzystaniem tych mechanizmów i z zapewnieniem trwałości obiektów przy pomocy technologii Object-Relational Mapping. Proponowane rozwiązanie pozwala na ujednolicony dostęp do danych o potencjalnie złożonej strukturze oraz na uniezależnienie się modelu obliczeniowego aplikacji od warstwy bazodanowej.
The paper presents solution for the problem of data stability in an implemented computer application - BiOBKalkulator, which supports computations and consultancy in the field of substituting conventional energy sources for biomass. The research involved design and implementation of mechanisms for object representation of data constituting atomic values, value ranges, or lists of ranges or atomic values. Modelling covered hierarchy of classes representing specific equipment for biomass processing and combustion, and was carried out using these mechanisms and ensuring stability of objects with help of the Object-Relational Mapping technology. The proposed solution allows to ensure standardised access to data possessing potentially complex structure, and to make computational model of the application independent from database layer.

Opis:
Aggression is a deliberate, proactive or impulsive, defensive or active act, expressed through the use of physical power or psychological pressure. As such, it is a significant element of violent behaviour. According to developmental stages, aggression is expressed in various forms and is associated with the specific ways of regulating the feelings of shame and anger. We assume that excessive exposure and interrupted contact in development can lead to a specific regulation of the affects of shame and anger in a person who, because he feels threatened, can transform these feelings into aggressive behaviour. In addition, the dysregulated affects can lead to the dissociation of emotional experience, and thus to the inability to feel empathy, which allows for deliberate or proactive aggressiveness. Furthermore, the text presents the basic conclusions of research in the neurobiological understanding of aggression. The aggressive action is characterized by the specific functioning of the prefrontal cortex, the amygdala, and the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. Abuse in childhood and relational trauma are presented as a starting point for the specific functioning of the brain and specific affect regulation, which can also be associated with aggressive behaviour in adulthood.

This qualitative, longitudinal study directs attention to how adolescence – a time period that is already fraught with pressures and struggles for most – may be complicated by the presence of hirsutism, a putatively “sexdiscordant” marker. Attention is directed to the school-based experiences of a non-representative sample of 67 Canadian youth and 41 adult women who shared their recollections of how hirsutism had impacted their lives as adolescents. Although hirsute youth may seem well-situated to act as the trailblazers for the type of subversive crossings that Butler (1990) championed in Gender Trouble, our study find little to suggest that they would welcome this role. Rather, the obverse seems true. However, given the dependent status of adolescents in Western society, it might be entirely presumptuous to expect hirsute youth to behave as if dualistic thinking about sex, gender and sexuality did not exist when so many of their experiences will continuously remind them that it does.

Extensible Markup Language was mainly designed to easily represent documents; however, it has evolved and is now widely used for the representation of arbitrary data structures. There are many Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to aid software developers with processing XML data. There are also many languages for querying and transforming XML, such as XPath or XQuery, which are widely used in this field. However, because of the great flexibility of XML documents, there are no unified data storing and processing standards, tools, or systems. On the other hand, a relational model is still the most-commonly and widely used standard for storing and querying data. Many Database Management Systems consist of components for loading and transforming hierarchical data. DB2 pureXML or Oracle SQLX are some of the most-recognized examples. Unfortunately, all of them require knowledge of additional tools, standards, and languages dedicated to accessing hierarchical data (for example, XPath or XQuery). Transforming XML documents into a (quasi)relational model and then querying (transformed) documents with SQL or SQL–like queries would significantly simplify the development of data-oriented systems and applications. In this paper, an implementation of the SQLxD query system is proposed. The XML documents are converted into a quasi-relational model (preserving their hierarchical structure), and the SQL–like language based on SQL-92 allows for efficient data querying.

After briefly discussing the shift that the concept is provoking in the social sciences, about design, as well as politics and activism, the author points out the risks inherent in it and shows how they can be transcended by inscribing in place-making senses relating to, among other things, the multi-species urban community, hybrid spaces, verticality and transborderity of the contemporary city. The conclusion is a manifesto that points to place-making as an everyday attitude, a common concern for cities as shared space.
