Opis:
The level of de gradation of reinforced concrete bridges was evaluated based on the in-situ measurements performed on five reinforced concrete bridges under service located in the Czech Republic. The combined effect of carbonation and chlorides with respect to the corrosion of steel reinforcement, namely the pH and the amount of water-soluble chlorides, were evaluated on drilled core samples of concrete. Based on these parameters, the ratio between the concentrations of Cl- and OH, which indicates the ability of concrete to protect reinforcement, was calculated. All the data were statistically summarized and the relationships among them were provided. The main goal of this study is to evaluate the non-proportional effect of the amount of chlorides per mass of concrete on the risk of corrosion initiation and to localize the “critical” locations in the bridges that are the most affected by the degradation effects.

Opis:
The article presents the results of non-destructive testing, which was carried out on the concrete pillar with an unusual, trapezoidal shape and densely spaced reinforcement. After stripping the formwork, some surface voids became visible, which suggested that the existence of subsurface voids was also probable. The Ground Penetrating Radar method (GPR) was used to state whether these voids are formed and possibly to determine their approximate location. This paper discusses the adopted methodology of measurements, analysis and the GPR data processing. The interpretation of the echograms was based on a comparison of recorded GPR data with the modelling results MRS (FD) of electromagnetic wave propagation with the known geometry of the tested pillar. The results of detection are shown mainly in the form of the echograms (B-SCAN) and are collected as a cumulative sketch (C-SCAN). In order to assess the impact of the identified voids on the bearing capacity of the structure, the shell model of the pillar was built with the use of FEM. It shows stress distribution differences in the pillar with a continuous internal structure and in the pillar with the modelled voids. The obtained results were used for checking the bearing capacity of damaged pillar and during the preparation of the effective repair program.

W artykule przedstawiono starania o ocalenie stuletniego mostu żelbetowego, przypadkowo odnalezionego w nasypie drogowym w miejscowości Łabunie koło Zamościa. Zaangażowanie środowisk inżynierów drogowo-mostowych doprowadziło do przeniesienia mostu na tereny Politechniki Lubelskiej, gdzie będzie obiektem dydaktycznym i ozdobą uczelni. Przedstawiona działalność jest przykładem prawidłowych zabiegów o ochronę technicznego dziedzictwa narodowego.
Efforts for saving the one hundred years old RC bridge discovered accidentally as embedded in road embankment at the vicinity of site Labunie near Zamość were presented in the paper. The engagement of the road and bridge engineers allow to transfer the bridge on the Lublin Polytechnic area where it will serve as educational object and valuable specimen for the school. Presented activity is an example of correct efforts for preservation of national technical heritage.

Opis:
The article presents the problems of building and maintaining urban transport infrastructure in Warsaw at the turn of the 20th century. The text concerns Kajetan Mościcki (1855-1933), engineer, who was appointed by the acting Mayor of Warsaw, General Sokrates Starynkiewicz, to the position of senior city engineer and head of the municipal construction department, where he worked from 1889 to 1909. During this period, he paved the streets which were worn or damaged by sewerage works with wooden blocks and covered the sidewalks with concrete slabs. He designed the first slip road in the Kingdom of Poland in the form of a spiral, and he also participated in the construction of the oldest road engineering structures made of reinforced concrete, located in Ujazdowski Park and on Karowa street in Warsaw, the first Warsaw power plant and the second city bridge across the Vistula. In addition to his professional activity, Kajetan Mościcki was an inventor in the fields of mechanics and electrical engineering. At the end of his life, he founded an award that the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences was to grant to Polish scientists for outstanding achievements.
