The purpose of the paper was to determine two things: the influence of type and amount of reinforcement on shear strength of soil and the relation between the efficiency of reinforcement and soil moisture content. Shear strength was determined in a direct shear apparatus in a box with a square section of 80x80 mm. The range of normal stress was from 25 to 150 kPa and the shear velocity was 1.0 mm×min⁻¹. The tests were carried out on medium sand and clayey coarse silt at two moisture contents and with two types of reinforcement - polyolefine fibres and 40x3 mm foil stripes. The addition of reinforcement was 0.5 and 1.0% in relation to the dry mass of soil. Test results indicated that using polyolefine fibres as dispersed reinforcement in a sandy soil increased its shear strength. Whereas the influence of using foil stripes on shear strength was little. However, using both types of reinforcement in a cohesive soil increased its shear strength and this influence was particularly clear at higher moisture content.

For reinforcement of prestressed concrete structures using reinforced thermo-hardened steel rebar standard length 12 m class A400, A500, A600, A800 with periodic profile. However, thermo-hardened steel rebar is essential for the production flaw - bad soldered, welded connection to that she did not meet the performance requirements for fittings in this class. Since adhesion to concrete reinforcement studied mainly experimental method because the results depend on many factors. This paper presents the design of prototypes, methods of testing and analysis of the strength of concrete beams reinforced with connected valves. Experimental research program provides four series test reinforced concrete beams crossing 120 X 220 mm length 2000 mm bend with two concentrated forces. Experimental beams were reinforced with welded frame constructions of armature 4 0 8 A400 and working pre-stressed armature 0 12 A500C. Steel bars in reinforced concrete beams connected by crimp sleeves. To determine the characteristics of strength, deformation and crack-resisting of experimental beams they were tested for bending to destruction.
Do zbrojenia żelbetowych konstrukcji sprężonych używane są pręty ze wzmocnionej termicznie stali o standardowej długości 12 m, klasy A400, A500, A600, A800, o periodycznie powtarzalnym profilu. Często się zdarza, że ze względu na wady występujące przy spawaniu takiej stali pręty te nie spełniają wymagań swojej klasy. Adhezja między betonem a zbrojeniem zależy od wielu czynników, jest więc najczęściej badana na drodze eksperymentalnej. Przedstawiono sposób wykonania prototypów, metodę badań i analizę wytrzymałości belek żelbetowych z łączonymi mechanicznie prętami zbrojeniowymi. Program badań doświadczalnych przewiduje badania czterech serii belek żelbetowych o przekroju 120 x 220 mm i długości 200 mm, pracujących na zginanie i obciążonych dwiema siłami skupionymi. Badane belki były wzmocnione spawaną ramą zbrojeniową z prętów 4 X 08 A400 i sprężonego zbrojenia 0 12 A500C. Pręty stalowe łączone były tulejami zaciskowymi. W celu określenia wytrzymałości, odkształceń i odporności na pękanie badanych belek poddano je badaniom niszczącym na zginanie.

This article presents the results of research aimed at determining the influence of selected nanofillers of vinyl ester resin on the mechanical properties of the cured resin. The influence of the resin with nanofillers as a matrix on the properties of the unidirectional CFRP composite was also investigated. Graphite, silicon oxide and titanium dioxide nanopowders were used as resin nanofillers. Each of the fillers was considered in two different contents, i.e. 1 wt.% and 2 wt.%. The variants with such nanofillers content were compared with the unfilled reference variant. The uniaxial tensile strength tests of the resin samples were carried out, showing the possibility of increasing the strength by 19.35% for the variant 1 wt.% of silica nanopowder content. For CFRP composites, the possibility of increasing the strength in the three-point bending test by 25.57% due to the use of a matrix reinforced with graphite nanopowder with a content of 1 wt.% was demonstrated. Based on the analysis of fracture surfaces performed using SEM microscopy, it was shown that the fillers used lead to a significant improvement in the adhesion of the matrix to the composite fibers.

The main aim of the present study was to investigate the influence of reinforced self-affirmation and reinforced failure on the memory misinformation effect. The misinformation effect consists in the witness including some incorrect details into their testimony, stemming from sources other than the original event. In the reinforced self-affirmation procedure, participants first recall their greatest achievements in life and are afterwards given a memory task with positive feedback about their performance on it. In a series of previous experiments, reinforced self-affirmation proved to reduce vulnerability to misinformation. The same result was obtained in the present study. Reinforced failure is a procedure not studied before, consisting in the participants recalling their greatest failures in life, connected with negative feedback about performance on a memory task. It was hypothesized that reinforced failure would increase vulnerability to misinformation. The results pointed to the opposite tendency – participants in the reinforced failure group performed better than those in the misled control group. The reduction in susceptibility to misinformation was greater in the reinforced self-affirmation group than in the reinforced failure one. The results are discussed in terms of the possibility of constructing a method of immunizing people to the misinformation effect available in practice for a wide community of professionals dealing with interrogations.

The design of suitable thermophysical properties of reinforced ice as well as employing the novel material in feasible ways represent key aspects towards alternative building sustainability. In this overview research studies dealing with reinforced ice structures have been presented with an emphasis on construction parameters and reinforcement materials of the structures. The main focus of the study is directed to the identification of the main issues related to the construction of reinforced ice structures as well as the environmental and economic impact of such structures. Obtained research data shows that the compressive, tensile, and bending strength of reinforced ice can be increased up to 6 times compared to plain ice. The application of reinforcement materials decreases creep rate, enhances ductility, and reduces brittle behaviour of ice. Assessed reinforced ice structures were mainly found to be environmentally friendly and economically viable. However, in most of the analysed studies construction parameters and physical properties were not defined precisely. The conducted overview indicates the necessity for more comprehensive and more accurate data regarding reinforced ice construction, applied methods, and processes, and preparation of ice composites in general.

This study investigates the effect of composite material stiffness on the accuracy of drilled holes and delamination in the drilling process. Two types of composite materials were tested: glass fiber reinforced plastic (GFRP) and carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). The drilling process was performed using dedicated drill bits. Samples were clamped in a vice of the Avia-VMC 800 HS vertical machining center. Drilling parameters were maintained constant but unsupported element length was changed. The unsupported element length was defined as an unsupported distance between the drilled hole axis and the sample attachment location. The maximum feed force Ff was determined in the experiments. The accuracy of drilled holes was estimated by optical microscopy. Diameters of the drilled holes were measured. Results made it possible to determine the recommended unsupported element length at which the hole dimensions were within the dimensional tolerance. The study showed a clear decrease in the drilled hole quality and a significant increase in the feed force, especially in the area of tool exit from the workpiece. In addition, the number of delaminated fibers increased with unsupported element length was determined in the study.

Fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) strengthening is a possible option when the load carrying capacity of a structure needs to be increased for various reasons. On the other hand, the focus nowadays aims to save the environment by reducing the waste material. A suggestion was made to use waste concrete as an aggregate. If this new material was used more, it would be possible to use recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) and carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) to strengthen reinforced concrete (RC) structures and make them more environmentally friendly. An experimental investigation study on the shear behaviour of RC beams strengthened with CFRP strips was carried out. Tests were conducted on six reinforced concrete beams, with variations in the replacement ratio of RCA and strengthened by different configurations of CFRP under four-point loading. The results indicated that the load carrying capacity was increased, on average, by 18.09 and 35.04% for beams strengthened with CFRP with an inclined strip (IS) and continuous strip (CS) configurations respectively. The results also indicated that the increases in the stiffness were 21.08 and 37.31 for beams strengthened with CFRP in the IS and CS configurations, respectively. In addition the ductility of the beams increased after strengthening.

Currently, in view of the previous theoretical and experimental researches, the regulatory documents for the calculation of reinforced concrete elements strengthened by composite materials and the calculation and design of fiber reinforced concrete structures are in force in Ukraine and in the world. Simultaneous strengthening of the compressed and tensile zones has not been sufficiently studied. Therefore, further research of reinforced concrete elements, strengthened by modern and highly efficient materials, such as steel fiber concrete and composite materials, is of great theoretical and practical importance. The urgency of the study is due to the obvious need to improve the method of calculation of the reinforced concrete bending elements after simultaneously strengthening compressed and tensile zones.

Zgodnie z zaleceniami PN-EN-1992-1-1 stosowanie modeli ST jest szczególnie uzasadnione w obszarach dwuosiowego rozkładu naprężeń, to jest krótkich wspornikach, narożach ram czy też strefach przypodporowych belek. Nie są to jednak metody rozpowszechnione, szczególnie w odniesieniu do elementów skręcanych. W niniejszym artykule podjęto próbę zastosowania przestrzennych modeli ST do zaprojektowania zbrojenia w żelbetowych podciągach skręcanych i zginanych. Otrzymane za pomocą analizy ST zbrojenie porównano ze zbrojeniem otrzymanym na podstawie zależność zaproponowanych w punktach 6.2 i 6.3 EC2.
In accordance with the recommendations of PN - EN- 1992-1-1 the use of ST models is particularly justified in the areas of biaxial stress distribution, that is short cantilever, frames corners or shear zones of beams. However, these are not common methods, particularly as far as torsion elements are concerned. This article is an attempt to use three–dimensional ST models for design of RC beams in torsion. The reinforcement obtained by the analysis of ST models has been compared with the reinforcement obtained on the basis of the relationship proposed in Sections 6.2 and 6.3 EC2.

Bamboo is a naturally available, fast growing and renewable resource. Bamboo plants are found all over the world in tropical and non-tropical regions. Asia pacific region is specifically rich in bamboo biodiversity. Due to high energy demand of existing construction materials and scarcity of other naturally available materials like wood, bamboo is a good alternative for construction. This paper reviews the mechanical properties and use of bamboo in construction. The tensile strength of different bamboo species varies in the range 70-210 MPa, compressive strength 20-65 MPa, elastic modulus 2500-17500 MPa, and modulus of rupture 50-200 MPa. Bamboo is a versatile material and can be used in construction in various ways. Bamboo can be engineered to specific need in construction such as laminated and scrimber bamboo. Engineered bamboo are used for various housing purposes such as roofing and flooring. Bamboo culms are often used directly without any alteration as structural members such as beams and columns. Bamboo can also be used as reinforcement in concrete as a replacement to steel. The shear and flexural behavior of bamboo reinforced concrete (BRC) beams is significantly better than plain concrete beams. Bamboo fibers reinforced concrete (BFRC) is a good alternative to existing synthetic fibers reinforced concrete such as glass and steel fibers. Development of standardized testing procedures and structural specifications utilizing existing and future research findings will pave the way towards an extensive use of bamboo in construction industry.

W pracy przedstawiono krótką definicję tarcz żelbetowych, rozkład naprężeń, zasady kształtowania otworów drzwiowych i zbrojenia w tarczach. W części zasadniczej przedstawiono przypadek utworzenia tarczy żelbetowej z murowanej ściany poddasza, dzięki czemu możliwe było usunięcie wewnętrznego słupa w piwnicy budynku trójkondygnacyjnego. Tarcza ze ściągiem, do której zostały podwieszone niższe elementy, pozwoliła osiągnąć rozpiętość 10 m. Rozwiązanie to porównano z innymi rozważanymi, takimi jak zastosowanie belek stalowych lub belki sprężonej.
The article presents the case of the creating reinforced concrete deep beam instead of brick wall. As a result of this it was possible to remove the inner column in the garage of a 3-story building. Lower elements are suspensioned to deep beam with tie beam and thanks to that beam reaches a span of 10 meters. The analysis below broaches basing on three various of application of structural elements in that issue. This solution will be compared with others, such as steel beam or prestressed beam.

Green high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites (GHPFRCC) are a new class of sustainable cementitious composites, employing a high volume of fly ash to replace cement. In addition to increasing the sustainability of the construction environment, GHPFRCC exhibits a high tensile ductility and multiple cracking behaviors in the strainhardening state. These materials can effectively improve the structural energy dissipation capacity and structural durability. In this study, the optimum mixture ratio of GHPFRCC is presented established using an orthogonal experiment for a specific engineering application. The described GHPFRCC sustains the mechanical performance of concrete and is employed as the outer cladding to strengthen concrete columns. The finite element analysis of the material was based on the software ABAQUS and pseudo static experiments were conducted to exhibit retrofitting of GHPFRCC applied in the rehabilitation of seismic-damaged concrete columns. The computed and experimental results showed that GHPFRCC, while incorporating high volume fly ash, can retain significant multiple cracking behaviors. The energy dissipation capacity of the GHPFRCC reinforced concrete (RC) column is better than the comparable unreinforced column.

“Polyurea coatings as a possible structural reinforcement system” is a research project aimed at exploring possible applications of polyurea coatings for improving structural performance (including steel, concrete, wooden and other structures used in the construction industry). As part of the project, this paper focuses on evaluating the performance of bent reinforced concrete (RC) beams covered with a polyurea coating system. Easy polyurea application and its numerous advantages can prove very useful when existing RC structural elements are repaired or retrofitted. Laboratory tests of three types of RC beams with three different longitudinal reinforcement ratios were performed for the purposes of this paper. The tests were designed to determine the bending strength, performance and cracking patterns of the coated RC beams. In addition, a theoretical model was developed to predict the impact of the polyurea coating on the bending strength of the RC beams. On this basis, the effect of the coating on the bending strength and the performance of the coated beams at the ultimate limit state (ULS) was examined and analyzed. The results showed that the use of the polyurea coating has a positive impact on the cracking state of the RC beams subject to bending and little effect on their bending strength.

Opis:
Purpose: A parametric characterization of a mesomechanic kinematic caused by ondulation in fabric reinforced composites is investigated by numerical investigations. Design/methodology/approach: Due to the definition of plain representative sequences of balanced plain-weave and twill-weave 2/2 fabric reinforced single layers based on sines the variable geometric parameters are the amplitude and the length of the ondulation. Findings: The mesomechanic kinematic can be observed in the FE analyses for both kinds of fabric constructions. Research limitations/implications: The FE analyses consider elasticity and contraction due to Poisson effects, respectively, of the model under selected longitudinal strains. Practical implications: The results are evaluated at relevant positions on the centre-line of the ondulated warp-yarn of the plain representative model. A direct and linear coupling in case of the transversal kinematic behaviour, and thereby a corresponding definite reduction of the evaluated longitudinal strains in terms of the difference of the applied and determined longitudinal strains is identified. Originality/value: Both characteristic purely kinematic reactions due to geometric constraints directly depend on the introduced degree of ondulation. This non-dimensional parameter relates amplitude and length of one complete ondulation, and thus represents the intensity of the ondulation of the respective fabric construction.
