Opis:
New challenges related to the multifunctional role of forests in consideration of both natural environment and economy come into view sequentially. In current forestry practice, an important element is not only the quality of forest cultivations (silvicultural aspect) but also the costs incurred for their production and tending (economic aspect). The main purpose of this article is to show the prospect of increasing positive silvicultural effects depending on the method used in management of Scots pine stands under given site conditions. The comparative analysis was carried out using the study results obtained in the Forest District Nowa Dęba and those presented in other relevant studies. In the present study, we examined whether the site conditions have significant effects on silvicultural and economic effectiveness of regeneration and development of Scots pine stands or those predominated by Scots pine in the initial stages of stand growth. Significance of the regeneration method effects on growth characteristics of Scots pine regeneration as well as the costs of forest cultivation management was analysed. The study on silvicultural and economic effectiveness was carried out in the Forest District Nowa Dęba. The results obtained showed that using Scots pine natural regeneration under the conditions of fresh coniferous forest site and fresh mixed coniferous forest site was the way of management based on reason. This was supported by both the values of regeneration growth parameters and silvicultural quality along with clearly lower expenditures incurred to achieve these effects. In wet mixed coniferous site, Scots pine seedlings regenerated naturally; however, the results indicated their lower silvicultural quality and growth parameter values when compared to those artificially regenerated. In fresh mixed broadleaved forest site, equally for silvicultural and economic reasons, the more optimal option was to regenerate forest using traditional planting material as natural Scots pine regeneration showed lower silvicultural effects. The unit costs of regeneration and maintenance of stands with self-sown Scots pine in fresh mixed broadleaved forest site were higher when compared with other examined forest sites. On the basis of the results of the present study, it can be concluded that regardless of the regeneration method examined, the most differentiating factor of the final economic effect of Scots pine stand establishment and maintenance was the cost of regeneration operation. The expenditure for this purpose consumed the largest part of expenses incurred in artificial regeneration variant. The higher cost of corrections in artificially planted forest cultivations in poorer forest sites was one of the reasons behind the profitable final balance of naturally regenerating Scots pine stands. Differences between other costs analysed were not significant. The results of the present study may contribute to comprehensive assessments of natural and artificial ways of forest regeneration and indicate forest production costs that are the most closely related to site conditions.

Opis:
Social participation enables citizens to take part in the decision-making process. It is an increasingly popular instrument in Poland. The effectiveness of participation is the most important issue in this context. In accordance with the Act of 9 October 2015, urban regeneration mainly applies to mitigating negative social phenomena. The social aspect is also important at the stage of establishing urban regeneration programmes. Extensive social participation in the process of creating these programmes is one of the main requirements. The aim of the article is to present the scale of the involvement of local communities in the procedure of creating regeneration programmes in selected small towns in Poland. Conclusions from the analysis include an assessment of participation success rate in regeneration activities.

Opis:
A prerequisite for effective forest management is a detailed economic analysis of given management determinants. In the forest district’s expenditures, next to the wood harvesting and skidding, the cost of silvicultural activities constitute a considerable share. The choice of forest management methods, including those for forest regeneration has a significant effect on the costs incurred for silvicultural activities as well as on the quality of emerging new generation. The aim of the study was to assess the economic effectiveness of Scots pine stand management using natural and artificial regeneration. The research determined the size and structure of expenditures incurred for the establishment and maintenance of crops. We also carried out the analysis and assessment of the effects of the selected regeneration method on forest management economic efficiency. The economic analysis included the comparison of the costs of establishment and maintenance of stands with artificially regenerated Scots pine trees with the costs of analogous activities carried out within the research plots with Scots pine from self−seeding. The studies were carried out on 4 types of forest sites, i.e.: fresh coniferous, fresh mixed coniferous, wet mixed coniferous and fresh mixed deciduous. The analyses were carried out using the cash flow method – the stream of expenditure incurred for stand management. The total costs of artificial stand regeneration and maintenance were on average higher by 1,443.24 PLN/ha of plantation as compared to naturally regenerated stands. Lower costs of tending and corrections performed in artificially regenerated Scots pine stands did not compensate for high expenditure incurred on regeneration activities, and as a result the total cost amounted to an average of 5,002.94 PLN/ha, whereas in the case of natural regeneration the total cost was 3,559.70 PLN/ha. In the analysed methods, the site conditions were of great importance to the amount of expenditures incurred for stand regeneration and maintenance. The economic viability of forest natural regeneration was confirmed for fresh coniferous, fresh mixed coniferous and wet mixed coniferous habitat types. In fresh mixed deciduous site, high costs of tending treatments and corrections had a major effect on the low economic result of the natural method of forest regeneration. The presented results on the effectiveness of management of Scots pine stands or those with the predominance of Scots pine using natural and artificial regeneration can be an important factor in taking appropriate silvicultural decisions, based on the assessment and knowledge of determinants affecting profitability of undertakings.

Opis:
In this study, an attempt was made to investigate in vitro morphogenetic competence of three shrub species from the Thymelaeaceae family. The studied plant material originated from Russia, Greece and China, and the effectiveness of in vitro shoot formation and rhizogenesis of Daphne caucasica, D. jasminea, and D. tangutica was verified. The multiplication coefficient was compared for different propagation media. Medium composed of WPM mineral salts, MS microelements and a set of vitamins, supplemented with 1.0 mg dm-3 2iP, 0.1 mg dm-3 NAA, and 0.65 g dm-3 calcium gluconate, was appropriate for micropropagation of the tested genotypes. Shoot propagation in medium containing B5 vitamins and microelements was not as effective as on WPM/MS medium. The rooting phase, especially in D. tangutica, needs further optimization in order to reduce the costs associated with acclimatization of microplantlets obtained to in vivo conditions. After stabilization, the plants were successfully cultivated under greenhouse conditions.
Badano kompetencję morfogenetyczną trzech gatunków roślin krzewiastych z rodziny wawrzynkowatych. Materiał roślinny pochodził z Rosji, Grecji i Chin. Regenerowano in vitro pędy i korzenie przybyszowe u wawrzynka kaukaskiego (Daphne caucasica), wawrzynka jaśminowego (D. jasminea) oraz wawrzynka tanguckiego (D. tangutica). Etap ukorzeniania, szczególnie dla wawrzynka tanguckiego, wymaga dalszej optymalizacji w celu zmniejszenia kosztów ponoszonych w trakcie uzyskiwania materiału przydatnego do uprawy. Otrzymane drogą rozmnażania in vitro rośliny przystosowano do uprawy w warunkach szklarniowych.
