Opis:
Electroretinography is a useful tool used in diagnosing retinal disorders. Refractive errors are a common and increasing group of abnormalities, which, if undiagnosed, may lead to complications. Physiologically, i.e., refraction of the child’s eye, evolves from myopic or hyperopic after birth, towards emmetropic. However, high refractive errors tend to present with retinal diseases. Early electroretinography is a great diagnostic test that allows its detection. Because of that, it can help avoid loss of eyesight and prevent future implications. Unfortunately, low accessibility and interpretational difficulties are main barriers in wider implementation of that method.

Opis:
In this work, we describe a new method for assessing the refractive correction error in power corrected ophthalmic lenses. The ideal power distribution map corresponding to the lens design to be measured is initially obtained. Then, using some known techniques, the real power distribution map of the lens under test is obtained. Finally, the difference between the two distributions is computed, obtaining a distribution map of the refractive correction error of the lens under analysis. In the paper, we describe the implementation of the proposed method using the Hartmann test to analyze a corrected power ophthalmic lens. The technique is analyzed, and its effects on measurement resolution discussed. This method can be useful to verify the designing errors in the lab or to verify manufacturing errors of ophthalmic lenses during mass production.

Opis:
A simple mathematical model for the temperature evolution in the cornea exposed to short-pulsed Ho: YAG laser under Laser Thermo Keratoplasty (LTK) treatment is developed by incorporating both the heat flux phase-lag and temperature gradient phase-lag in Fourier’s heat transfer model. An analytical solution to the mathematical model is obtained using the Laplace transformation technique. The computational results for the temperature profile and the temperature variation with time are presented through the graphs. The effect of some typical parameters: the heat flux phase-lag and the temperature gradient phase-lag on the temperature distribution and temperature variations are illustrated and discussed.

Opis:
In this paper, we have analyzed the performance of our optimized non-zero dispersion shifted fiber with three different test fibers, namely, single mode fiber, conventional non-zero dispersion shifted fiber and dispersion shifted fiber. While comparing the performances of those fibers, our optimized non-zero dispersion shifted fiber has yielded a better quality factor of 5.24 at 2.5 Gbit/s for long haul fiber length of 120 km in the absence of amplification and dispersion compensation. In order to measure the nonlinear impairments of wavelength division multiplexing channel, the quality factor values are measured at the sample channel 193.1 THz for 150 km lengthed fiber with peak input power of 6 dBm. Due to a very large effective area of optimized non-zero dispersion shifted fiber, it delivers a better quality factor of 6.12 compared to the other test fibers. We have also carried out the analysis for higher bitrates and different modulation formats at the transmission end. More phase encoded modulations of carrier-suppressed return-to-zero–differentiated phase shift keying and carrier-suppressed return-to-zero–differential quadrature phase shift keying offered optimum performances for a distance of 120 km at 10 Gbit/s bitrate. By including optical amplifiers, we could achieve a record fiber transmission length of 4000 km at the bitrate of 2.5 Gbit/s which can help the future wavelength division multiplexing optical networks to a great extent.
