Opis:
In the paper, problem of proper tuning of second-order Reduced Active Disturbance Rejection Controller (RADRC2) is considered in application for industrial processes with significant (but not dominant) delay time. For First-Order plus Delay Time (FOPDT) and Second-Order plus Delay Time (SOPDT) processes, tuning rules are derived to provide minimal Integral Absolute Error (IAE) assuming robustness defined by gain and phase margins. Derivation was made using optimization procedure based on D-partition method. The paper also shows results of comprehensive simulation validation based on examplary benchmark processes of more complex dynamics as well as final practical validation. Comparison with PID controller shows that RADRC2 tuned by the proposed rules can be practical alternative for industrial control applications.

In this paper the explicit necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of Luenberger reduced order observer are established. In particular, it is proven that for the given linear time-invariant system of order n, having p linearly independent out- puts and m inputs, a Luenberger observer of order (n − p) can be constructed if and only if the given system is detectable. Further- more, a procedure is given for the construction of the observer. Our approach is based on the properties of real and polynomial matrices.

Opis:
Virtual testing and hybrid simulation have become an important trend in airplane design and validation. The traditional Testing Pyramid (or Building Block) approaches that emphasis on uniaxial coupon test and full structure certification test are being challenged. Researchers are trying to use advanced testing and simulation methods to replace the Testing Pyramid approach. Before physical testing, virtual testing can be conducted to simulate the physical test. Virtual model of the full testing system including controller, actuators, and fixtures can be constructed and validated. In this work, an example has been developed and validated to show the potentials of the virtual testing process. Hybrid simulation is an approach of analyzing an analysis model and physical structure integrated system under realistic loading conditions. Hybrid simulation combines the lab testing with numerical analysis to explore the benefits of both methodologies. In this study, a hybrid simulation for a simplified airplane wing was conducted to demonstrate the process. Virtual testing and hybrid simulation are alternative methods of Testing Pyramid approach. Full scale tests are still required for certification but the more that is known about the test article, the greater chances of success in the full-scale certification testing.

Reduced Order Models
control-oriented models
global flow stability

continuous mode interpolation
Opis:
In the present study, a hierarchy of control-oriented reduced order models (ROMs) for fluid flows is presented. Control design requires simplicity, accuracy and robustness from an online capable Galerkin model. These requirements imply low order of the associated dynamical system. Standard POD (praper orthogonal decomposition) Galerkin models may provide a low-dimensional representation of a given reference state. Yet, their narrow dynamic range and lack of robustness pose a challenge for control design. We propose key enablers to increase the dynamic range of the POD model. An 11-dimensional hybrid model is discussed which includes, in addition to 8 POD modes, a shift mode to resolve base-flow variations, and a complex global stability mode for enhanced description of the transient phase. The dimension is further reduced by a similarly accurate 3-dimensional generalized mean-field model employing a novel continuous mode interpolation technique between POD and stability eigenmodes. This method connects smoothly different operating conditions, different mode bases and even different boundary conditions, allowing the design of least-order, accurate Galerkin model for flow control purposes. The interpolation technique is employed to construct a priori flow model from the stability analysis and the Reynolds equation without the need for flow data.
W pracy przedstawiono grupę modeli niskowymiarowych przeznaczoną do sterowania opływem ciał. Metoda ciągłej interpolacji modów została zastosowana do konstrukcji modelu a priori przepływu, opartego jedynie o mody globalnej analizy stabilności.

Opis:
The Craig–Bampton (CB) method is a well-known substructuring technique that reduces the size of a finite element model (FEM) using a set of vibration modes. For large FEA models, the reduction process could be computationally expensive since it requires algebra operations on FEM mode shapes and FEM system sparse matrices. In this paper, we investigate the potential of usage of GPU parallel processing to speed up solving the system of linear equations that results from the CB reduction process made for a model of cyclic structures. A Python based high-level approach, employing the CuPy, GinkGo and STRUMPACK libraries on the GPU, is compared with an optimized Fortran code. In side-to-side comparisons, employing the same inputs, the Python-GPU code is run on a single GPU device and the Fortran code is run on a multi-core compute node. The CB reduction process was split into several parts, each dealing with different kind of algebraic formulation of the problem. Performance comparisons were focused on the sparse system linear solver, since it turned out to be the most time-consuming part. The results suggest that the current GPU-based linear sparse solvers do not surpass the state-of-the-art CPU-based MKL PARDISO solver (at least up to 1M DOFs).

A method for reducing controllers for systems described by partial differential equations (PDEs) is applied to Burgers' equation with periodic boundary conditions. This approach differs from the typical approach of reducing the model and then designing the controller, and has developed over the past several years into its current form. In earlier work it was shown that functional gains for the feedback control law served well as a dataset for reduced order basis generation via the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD). However, the test problem was the two-dimensional heat equation, a problem in which the physics dominates the system in such a way that controller efficacy is difficult to generalize. Here, we additionally incorporate a nonlinear observer by including the nonlinear terms of the state equation in the differential equation for the compensator.

Opis:
The pressurizer water level control system in nuclear power plant with pressurized water reactor (PWR) is responsible for coolant mass balance. The main control goal is to stabilize the water level at a reference value and to suppress the effect of time-varying disturbances (e.g. coolant leakage in primary circuit pipeline system). In the process of PWR power plant operation incorrect water level may disturb pressure control or may cause damage to electric heaters which could threaten plant security and stability. In modern reactors standard PID controllers are used to control water level in a pressurizer. This paper describes the performance of state feedback integral controller (SFIC) with reduced-order Luenberger state observer designed for water level control in a pressurizer and compares it to the standard PID controller. All steps from modeling of a pressurizer through control design to implementation and simulation testing in Matlab/Simulink environment are detailed in the paper.

Phenomena occurring in the flows are very complex. Their interpretation, as well as an effective impact on them in the flow control is often only possible with the use of modal analysis and low-dimensional models. In this paper, the selected modal decomposition techniques, namely Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD), Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD) and global stability analysis, are briefly introduced. The design of Reduced Order models basing on Galerkin projection is presented on the example of the flow past a bluff body. Finally, the issues of widening of the application of the models are addressed.

Physical flow modes are of particular interest for Reduced Order Flow Control-Oriented Models. Computation of physical modes as the eigensolution of linearized Navier-Stokes equations is a cumbersome and difficult task, especially for large, 3D problems. Instead we propose the solution of Navier-Stokes equation in the frequency domain and investigation of the system response to local or global perturbation. The flow variables are perturbed around steady basic state and the system response is used to construct mode basis suitable for ROMs.
