Opis:
The social and cultural environment of kindergartens and schools has experienced considerable changes during the past few decades. This greatly affected teachers as well, since children with a wide range of economic, cultural and family backgrounds bring with them contrasting moral values to preschools or elementary schools. Children of migrant workers, refugees, immigrants lead to increased diversity which requires new competences from teachers. The notion of incorporating multiculturalism in today’s schools is beyond question. Therefore education policy should signiicantly prioritize the inclusion of cultural varieties: diferent religions, diverse traditions and customs.

Opis:
This article deals with the issue of home-country receptivity towards social remittances from the professional diaspora. Social remittances from the highly skilled depend on a favourable context for knowledge and skills transfer in their home countries, a context that could be summarised by the term ‘country receptivity’. This article is based on the case of Lithuania. The data comes from a series of semi-structured interviews with members of the skilled diaspora and representatives of institutions that are involved in programmes targeted at the diaspora. The analysis reveals several groups of obstacles to successful knowledge and skills transfer that may be understood as issues of country receptivity: mistrust of government by diaspora members, expressed as a belief that it is not interested in results and thus involvement of the diaspora, but rather in pursuing particular political objectives; lack of openness towards other experiences (unwillingness of institutions at different levels and in various fields to open up to new opinions, approaches and experiences brought by Lithuanians from abroad); bureaucratic and institutional impediments (inability of institutions to adapt their procedures in the interests of cooperation; slowness and ineffectiveness when dealing with requests or reacting to initiatives from the diaspora); and a perceived negative opinion (unwelcoming attitude) in society towards Lithuanians from abroad. The interviews also provide some tentative evidence of a ‘feedback loop’, through which the involvement of the diaspora causes changes in the home-country institutions. In the discussion part of the article, possible causes and implications of these obstacles are considered.

The present paper deals with pollen biology in terms of pollen productivity, pollen sterility and pollen viability in the context of fruit set of eight selected ethnomedicinally important angiospermic taxa like Aconitum heterophyllum Wall. (Ranunculaceae); Aeschynanthus sikkimensis (Cl.) Stapf. (Gesneriaceae); Curcuma zeodaria Rosc. (Zingiberaceae); Nardostachys jatamansi DC. (Valerianaceae); Panax pseudoginseng Wall. (Araliaceae); Swertia pedicillata Ban. (Gentianaceae); Thalictrum foliolosum DC. (Ranunculaceae) and Zanthoxylum oxyphyllum Edgew. (Rutaceae) growing in the vicinity of Darjeeling Himalaya. Among the investigated taxa, pollen productivity, sterility and viability were highest in Curcuma zeodaria and lowest in Swertia pedicillata. The variability and positive correlation of log values between pollen production, sterility, viability and fruit set of selected taxa were noticed. From present finding it is concluded that the pollen biology in terms of productivity, sterility, viability and fruit set showed significant variation and correlation with each other among different selected taxa and even within same taxon. The results are discussed in terms of evolutionary relationship and sexual fitness of selected ethnomedicinal plants.

Vibration influence on man causes its selective transfer through the structure of human body. There was determined analytical structural model of human body dynamic. Synthesis of dynamical features of the model's system by dynamical receptivity method enabled determining of dynamical characteristics of structure of a standing man. For determine dynamical characteristics of human body there were suggested parameters of structure according to Potiemkin-Frolow model. There were determined exit powers of human reactions on forces occuring on a tractor's frame. The tractor was forced by simulation of going through the blocks (on a stand of accelerating tests). Basic frequencies of forces: 1Hz, 1,26Hz, 2,5Hz.

Opis:
The chief aim of this article is to show that St. Thomas Aquinas’s Fourth Way of demonstrating God’s existence can only be made precisely intelligible by comprehending it as a real, generic whole in light of its specific organizational principles. Considered as a real, generic whole, this argument is one from effect to cause (from a real order of more or less perfectly existing generic, specific, and individual beings [habens esse] more or less perfectly possessing generic, specific, and individual ways of being within qualitatively different, hierarchical, orders of existence to a first cause of this order of perfections). In addition, this article maintains that, to comprehend this complicated argument, readers mush be familiar with philosophical principles that St. Thomas repeatedly uses throughout his major works, but with which most of his contemporary students tend to be unfamiliar. Consequently, a secondary aim of this paper is to introduce readers unfamiliar with them to some of these principle so that they may be able better to comprehend what St. Thomas is saying in this demonstration and in other teachings of his as well.

Opis:
Dostoyevsky’s famous novel Crime and Punishment can be interpreted as an argument with Nietzsche’s view on the genealogy of conscience. While Nietzsche believes that conscience is a product of a disease and inhibits the will to power, Dostoevsky shows the situation of crossing the border as a source of moral illness and self-destruction of the human person. Crime and Punishment, as well as Dostoevsky’s novel Demons and The Trial of F. Kafka, also criticize modern and postmodern society, in which there is a strong trend, stimulated by psychoanalysis, to liberate people from guilt. With reference to Martin Buber’s views, the author of the article formulates a thesis on the ontological nature of guilt, treating its confession as a necessary act of self-enlightenment in conscience.Examining the structure of conscience in the context of guilt, a deeper level must be indicated, called synderesis in the scholastic tradition. Considering the elements of experience present in the experience of conscience, the author criticizes the intellectualist interpretation of synderesis. He takes into account the deep level of understanding of conscience in the category of heart made by D. v. Hildebrand and the anamnesis category of J. Ratzinger.

Opis:
This article argues that, strictly speaking, from its inception with the ancient Greeks and for all time, philosophy and science are identical and consist in an essential relationship between a specific type of understanding of the human person as possessed of an intellectual soul capable of being habituated and a psychologically-independent composite whole, or organization. It maintains, further, that absence of either one of the extremes of this essential relationship cannot be philosophy/science and, if mistaken for such and applied to the workings of cultural institutions, will generate anarchy within human culture and make leadership excellence impossible to achieve. Finally, it argues that only a return to this “common sense” understanding of philosophy can generate the leadership excellence that can save the West from its current state of cultural and civilizational anarchy.

Opis:
Since most pressing today on a global scale is to be able to unite religion, philosophy, and science into parts of a coherent civilizational whole, and since the ability to unite a multitude into parts of a coherent whole essentially requires understanding the natures of the things and the way they can or cannot be essentially related, this paper chiefly considers precisely why the modern world has been unable to effect this union. In so doing, it argues that the chief cause of this inability to unite these cultural natures has been because the contemporary world, and the West especially, has lost its understanding of philosophy and science and has intentionally divorced from essential connection to wisdom. Finally, it proposes a common sense way properly to understand these natures, reunite them to wisdom, and revive Western and global civilization.
