Opis:
Deptford pink Dianthus armeria L. is a representative of Caryophyllaceae family. It is plant species that is strictly protected since 2014. In the local Red List for the Silesian Province it was considered an endangered species. During 2023-2024 fieldwork was done that aimed to update the list of the localities of this species in the Cieszyn Foothills region. The locality was marked on the map using methodological assumptions of Atlas of Distribution of Vascular Plants in Poland. The density of population was counted or estimated. As a result of the field studies in the study area 9 localities (a total of 17 local populations) of Dianthus armeria were found in grassland, meadow, fringe and ruderal communities. Totally 8 localities were new to this area. Only localities from Tuł Mt has been known earlier. There were also the highest abundance of population, estimated at 600-700 individuals but population contain several small populations that amounting from tens to several hundreds of plants. Two populations are in Cisownica village and they occupy slopes of two local mountains: Kopieniec Mt (475 m a.s.l.) and Malcowa Mt (510 m a.s.l.). In Cieszyn population grows close to the nature reserve “Kopce”, and ecological use are “Łąki na kopcach”. In Leszna Górna village populations occupy xerothermic grasslands. The other situation is Górki Wielkie where the species grows in ruderal habitats: levees along Brennica river and in the vicinity of market. The other human-made habitats which were grown by Dianthus armeria were found in Puńców. These ones were abandoned quarry of dolomites and the vicinity of sports field but close to the fring of oak-hornbeam forest. In general, the population in the Cieszyn Foothills, size ranged from a few individuals to approximately several hundred. The lack of accurate data from previous years does not allow to assess the dynamics of the distribution and abundance of this species. Based on the general trends of Dianthus armeria in Poland, the population status appears to be satisfactory.

Male Opillya (586 km2) is a small part of the Volhyn-Podillya Uplands, located southeast of Lviv and is characterised by the presence of various forms of landscapes, which led to the diversity of its phytobiota. Although located in the neighborhood of Lviv - one of the botanical centers, it was overlooked by botanists in the 19th and 20th centuries. The aim of the study, results of which are presented, was to determine composition of rare and endangered species of Male Opillya’s flora. The article provides a list of these species according to their conservation status defined by the Red book of Ukraine, the list of regionally rare species in Lviv region, the IUCN list, the CITES Appendix №2, and the Bern Convention. Based on the conducted analyses, it can be concluded that 143 species of flora in Male Opillya may disappear due to increasing anthropopressure.

Opis:
This work aimed to present the diversity of fungal species in the Poznań- Radojewo park. It was characterized based on literature data, unpublished master’s theses, the authors’ data, as well as data collected during two mycological trips organized by the Mycological Section of the Polish Botanical Society. Between 1980 and 2017, as many as 333 species of macromycetes have been found within the park in Poznań-Radojewo (among them 19% are rare and endangered), including eight protected species (Mitrophora semilibera, Morchella esculenta (var. esculenta and var. umbrina), Geastrum corollinum, G. fornicatum, Hericium coralloides, and Myriostoma coliforme), as well as two species new to the Polish mycobiota: Psathyrella bipellis and P. larga. The park in Poznań-Radojewo is very important for maintaining a high species diversity of fungi within the city of Poznań. During revitalization works, it is of paramount importance to take the needs of rare, threatened, and protected species under consideration and to preserve the natural character of plant communities. It is also vital to ensure the presence of coarse woody debris at different decomposition phases, which serves as an important substratum type for rare fungi.

The aim of this work was to determine the total phenolic content (TPC) and the antioxidant activity of methanol extracts of Hericium erinaceus, Hericium americanum and Hericium coralloides, including free radical scavenging method (DPPH), ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and radical cation scavenging method (ABTS). Hericium spp exhibited moderate to high antioxidant activity. The highest TPC (3.27 ±0.01 mg GAE g–1) and antioxidant activity values (17.0 ±0.68 mmol TE g–1 in FRAP; EC 50 = 4.12 ±0.12 mg mL –1 in DPPH •; EC 50= 2.83 ± 0.10 mg mL–1in ABTS•+ ) were found for methanol extracts of H. coralloides. The TPC and antioxidant activity of H. erinaceus isolates varied from strain to strain. H. americanum possessed considerably lower total phenolic content (2.31 ±0.01 mg GAE g–1) and antioxidant activity (10.5 ±0.59 mmol TE g–1 in FRAP; EC 50 = 7.82 ±0.09 mg mL –1 in DPPH•; EC 50 = 6.36 ± 0.12 mg mL–1 in ABTS •+) than H. coralloides and H. erinaceus. A high correlation was determined between TPC and ABTS •+( r2= 0.855), DPPH•(r2= 0.969) and FRAP (r2 = 0.942). According to results obtained in the present study, Hericium spp., especially H. coralloides and some of H. erinaceus isolates, might be promising natural source of antioxidants for food and pharmaceutical industry.

Opis:
The species of downy willow (Salix lapponum) and swamp willow (Salix myrtilloides) are extremely rare relicts among all members of the genus Salix. In Poland, they occur only in the eastern part of the Karkonosze Mountains, Masurian Lake District, and Polesie Lubelskie area. A huge threat to both species is the drainage of peat bogs and their excessive exploitation as well as diseases caused by bacteria and fungi. The present study aimed identify fungal species colonizing the aboveground organs of plants with disease symptoms and to indicate which species may pose a threat towards S. lapponum and S. myrtilloides growing under natural conditions. This research was conducted in Polesie National Park as a part of a research project by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Plant health assessments were carried out in natural habitats, while aboveground organs with disease symptoms were collected for laboratory mycological analysis. Colletotrichum salicis (teleomorph Glomerella salicis), Coniothyrium concentricum, Cylindrosporium salicinum, Phomopsis spp., Truncatella angustata, and Cytospora chrysosperma (teleomorph Valsa sordida) were the fungal species most frequently isolated from leaves and shoots of both willow species. The above-mentioned fungi are dangerous plant pathogens from the family Salicaceae. There were no obligatory parasites or monophagous pathogens on the aboveground organs of downy or swamp willow. Obligatory parasites may indicate a markedly low population of host plants in Polish conditions.

Opis:
Mycological data published in the years 2012−2017 in six papers on the exhibitions of fungi of the Białowieża Forest (NE Poland) was analysed to demonstrate that incidental, few days long field studies in that region may provide interesting and valuable data on fungal diversity and richness. The discussed papers, in addition to the lists of species presented, include information on some interesting taxa collected during the preparation of the exhibitions. This data complements the knowledge on the fungal biota of the Białowieża Forest and is documented by the herbarium specimens. There are 865 macrofungal taxa (72 of Ascomycota and 793 of Basidiomycota) mentioned in these papers. Almost half of them (421 taxa) were particularly valuable fungi, with 239 being new for the Białowieża Forest, i.e. they had not been reported from this area earlier. 75 taxa found during the field work preceding the exhibitions had not been found in Poland previously (e.g. Chromosera cyanophylla, Clitocybe collina, Cortinarius talimultiformis, Cystoderma subvinaceum). Moreover, 67 taxa have not been so far reported from other localities in Poland (e.g. Amylocystis lapponica, Pycnoporellus alboluteus and Steccherinum tenuispinum). 15 fungal species collected before the exhibitions are protected in Poland, 6 of them are strictly protected. 185 red−listed fungi were also found, among them 1 species with Ex (extinct) category (Scytinostroma galactinum) and 61 with E (endangered) category (e.g. Pholiota squarrosoides, Punctularia strigosozonata, Rigidoporus crocatus). An analysis of the published data indicates that even short−term, incidental studies may provide important and valuable data on the fungi of the Białowieża Forest and that the potential richness of its mycobiota is much higher than previously recognised and estimated. Presented results confirm the need for further basic research on the biodiversity of macrofungal biota of the Białowieża Forest. It should involve application of new research methods, participation of taxonomists specializing in specific fungal groups, identification of threats and establishing of a conservation program and population monitoring of the most valuable species in this area.

Opis:
The studies were conducted in the years 2005 and 2017 using the Braun-Blanquet method. The objective of studies was to investigate the condition of the grassland vegetation, including the presence of rare and endangered plant species in the Middle Wieprz Valley (PLH060005). The investigation in this area concerned the vegetation of rush meadows, wet and fresh meadows, and the presence of characteristic rare and endangered species in the communities under study. A Natura 2000 area (PLH060005) comprises a mosaic of land and water habitats and such a pattern of natural environment conditions favours the occurrence of varied plant associations. However, the extensive utilization of meadows or the lack of it pose a serious threat in the Middle Wieprz Valley to plant communities. The previously investigated rush communities as well as wet and fresh meadow communities are currently monitored to evaluate changes in vegetation of the studied grasslands. Principal Component Analysis was used to examine the changes in the percentage share of various characteristic species in three different types of communities between 2005 and 2017. The results of the currently conducted phytosociological survey indicate that the smallest changes in the floristic composition of the sward occur in the rush and wet meadow communities although fluctuations of the number of some plant species can be observed there. The more important changes in the species composition of meadow sward were confirmed in the following associations of the Molinio-Arrhenatheretea class: Ass. Lolio-Cynosuretum R.Tx. 1937, Ass. Cirsietum rivularis NOWIŃSKI 1927 and lower changes in the assotiation of the Arrhenatheretum elatioris BR.-BL. ex SCHERR. 1925. Analyzing the differences in the species composition of the sward that occurred in the studied communities between 2005 and 2017, it can be concluded that the biggest changes concern the Lolio-Cynosuretum association. A considerably greater presence of species characteristic of the Molinio-Arrhenatheretea class was found in the sward of this association in 2017 in comparison with the state of the vegetation cover in 2005. A similar trend, but with less distinct changes, can be observed in the Cirsietum rivularis association where an increasing proportion of characteristic species of the Molinio-Arrhenatheretea class was confirmed. In the period under study, no significant changes in the vegetation cover of the Arrhenatheretum elatoris association were found, as evidenced by the distribution of points corresponding to the particular sites of this community, covering similar areas in both years compared. However, sward condition of this plant association was not good enough in the previous study period. Among species from studied grassland communities in the Middle Wieprz Valley, the following species were very rarely occurring: Dactylorhiza incarnata (L.) SOÓ, Dactylorhiza majalis s.l. (Rchb.) P.F. Hunt et Summerh., Dianthus superbus L. ssp. superbus, Orchis militaris L., Lathyrus palustris L., Tragopogon pratensis L. ssp. orientalis (L.) Čelak, Cirsium rivulare (Jacq.) All. and Cynosurus cristatus L. The lack of utilization of the sward for pasturage has probably contributed to the considerably decreased numbers of the characteristic species Cynosurus cristatus. In the study area, this species can be regarded as very rare, even vulnerable, if the community for this association is not placed under active protection.
Badania przeprowadzono w latach 2005 i 2017 metodą Braun-Blanqueta w Dolinie Środkowego Wieprza (PLH060005). Obszar Natura 2000 (PLH060005) stanowi mozaikę środowisk lądowych i wodnych, a taki układ warunków środowiska sprzyja występowaniu różnorodnych zespołów roślinnych. Bardziej znaczące zmiany w składzie gatunkowym runi łąkowej potwierdzono w następujących zespołach roślinnych klasy Molinio-Arrhenatheretea: Lolio-Cynosuretum R.Tx. 1937, Cirsietum rivularis NOWIŃSKI 1927 i mniejsze zmiany w zespole Arrhenatheretum elatioris BR.-BL. ex SCHERR. 1925. (Rchb.) P.F. Hunt et Summerh., Dianthus superbus L. ssp. superbus, Orchis militaris L., Lathyrus palustris L., Tragopogon pratensis L. ssp. orientalis (L.) Čelak, Cirsium rivulare (Jacq.) All. i Cynosurus cristatus L. Brak pastwiskowego użytkowania runi przyczynił się prawdopodobnie do znacznego spadku liczebności gatunku charakterystycznego – Cynosurus cristatus L. W badanym rejonie gatunek ten można uznać jako bardzo rzadki, a nawet narażony na wyginięcie, jeśli zbiorowisko tego zespołu nie zostanie objęte czynną ochroną.

Opis:
Changes in the herbaceous layer (vascular plants), taking place between 1959 and 2016 on the permanent study plot in the compartment 319 of the Strict Reserve in the Białowieża National Park are presented. Zaręba [1972] presented phytosociological research carried out in 1959 on the 1.2 ha plot. The author established 10 relevés (size between 100 and 400 m2), in which in total 91 different species of vascular plants were noted. In 2016, the similar study was conducted, using slightly modified methods (the inventory of plants involved the total area of the study plot). The comparison of data recorded during both investigations revealed that the total number of plant species declined from the initial 91 to current 83. During the ca. 60−year long period, 43 plant species disappeared completely and were replaced by 35 new species. In the declining group, almost the half (20) were species important from the point of view of nature conservation, including four Red List species (Arnica montana, Goodyera repens, Lathyrus laevigatus, Trolius europaeus), 10 plant species protected by law, and several other precious species related to rare and declining woodland community types. The obtained results confirm the findings of other authors describing unfavourable changes in the flora of the Białowieża Forest during the past several tens of years. The floristic richness is an important part of the overall biodiversity of Białowieża Forest. It appears that strict protection does not secure the maintenance of this key component. Thus, an attempt to preserve diverse values of Białowieża Forest on a sustainable basis should, first of all, look for a proper balance between strict and active protection. The later can (and should) be integrated within the multifunctional forest management, conducted on the prevailing area of the Białowieża Forest.

Opis:
Lichens of the “Wrzosowiska Cedyńskie im. inż. Wiesława Czyżewskiego” nature reserve were studied in 2005 and 2011. Within the examined area, 103 species of lichens were observed. These include 23 species that are new to this area, some of them calciphilous, e.g. Agonima gelatinosa and Collema crispum. Many of them are rare in the Polish lowlands, e.g. Cladonia stellaris, Rhizocarpon geographicum, R. polycarpum, Stereocaulon condensatum, and S. incrustatum.
Porosty rezerwatu “Wrzosowiska Cedyńskie im. Wiesława Czyżewskiego” badano w 2005 i 2011 roku. Agonima gelatinosa i Collema crispum. Cladonia stellaris, Rhizocarpon geographicum, R. polytropa, Stereocaulon condensatum i S. incrustatum.

Opis:
Between 2014 and 2016, research was carried out in the “Bory Tucholskie” National Park, with the aim to investigate the diversity of species of macrofungi in Cladonio-Pinetum. The studies recorded 140 taxa of macromycetes, of which the majority was basidiomycete (136). The highest number of taxa of fungi (98) was found in 2016, while the lowest (76) was found in the first year of the study (2014). A total of 90 taxa were found in 2015. Among the identified species of macromycetes, Inonotus obliquus is on the list of protected fungi covered by partial legal protection and 23 reported species are on the “Red list of the macrofungi in Poland”, which is concerned with the protection of the habitat of Cladonio-Pinetum.
