    Opis:
    The article analyses the current traction rolling-stock used by „Lietuvos geležinkeliai“ Plc. for freight transportation. The technical data of the above mentioned rolling-stock is explored and compared, and operation costs are estimated in the article. After the assessment of the forecasts of freight flows on the constructed railway „Rail Baltica“, the algorithm for selection of freight locomotives was proposed. The efficiency of the locomotives operated on the railway is determined by three multicriteria evaluation methods: the sum of ratings, simple additive weighting, and the geometric mean method. Locomotives are valued in accordance with technical, economic and ecological parameters. The results of possible effective performance of the rolling stock have been determined by changing coefficient values of the criteria. Finally, basic conclusions are given.

    Opis:
    The article investigates a possibility of using the traditional multi-criteria assessment methods to evaluate how significance of a railway line is distributed for the countries it crosses. The article analyses two examples of railway lines: the railway line Rail Baltica (Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia) and the container train Viking route (Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine). When investigating for which countries the Rail Baltica project will have bigger significance, and for which smaller, indicators of the countries are analysed by the length of Rail Baltica in the country, length falling per million residents in the country, length falling per thousand km of the existing railway, length per area of the county and length falling per country’s gross domestic product (GDP). To generalize them, multi-criteria optimization methods, such the geometric mean method, were used. To answer the question whether the methodology used is adequate, it was tested using the example of the already operating container train Viking. The results of calculations for the previously mentioned criteria are combined with the actual distribution of the freight turnover. A positive conclusion is made about the adequacy of the methodology to assessment of the importance of the railway line for the country.

    Jednym z najważniejszych projektów europejskich w najbliższych latach będzie budowa linii dużej prędkości Rail Baltica przebiegającej przez 3 kraje bałtyckie – od Tallina do granicy polskiej. Linia ta stanie się główną osią transportową i elementem restrukturyzacji sieci kolejowej tych państw, która obecnie ukierunkowana jest w zasadzie równoleżnikowo. Gęstość tej sieci jest jak na warunki europejskie niewielka, a standardy techniczne linii o szerokości toru 1 520 mm stosunkowo niskie. Linia Rail Baltica w połączeniu z projektami linii dużych prędkości w Polsce i w Czechach może też zmienić geografię transportową w Europie Środkowo-Wschodniej, a Polska jako centrum nowego układu komunikacyjnego zarówno dla pociągów pasażerskich, jak i towarowych może stać się jednym z głównych beneficjentów tych inwestycji.
    In the nearest years a structure of the Rail Baltica high speed line crossing 3 Baltic countries from Tallinn to border Polish will be one of the most important European projects. This line will became the main transport axle and the element of the restructuring of the railway network of the Baltic countries. The Rail Baltica line in combination with projects of the high speeds lines in Poland and in Czech can also change transport geography in central-eastern Europe. Poland as the centre of the new communications network both for passenger as well as freight trains can become one of main beneficiaries of this investment. In the article a history of the project of the new line was described from concept through the feasibility studies to the phase of preparations works.

    The aim of the paper is to present the most important results of the research carried out for the case study on the
    effects of Rail Baltica investments in the Warsaw Metropolitan Area (WMA) urban node. The research was carried out
    as part of the EU project NSB CoRe (North Sea Baltic Connector of Regions). In the article the main conclusions from the
    study are presented, describing changes that have supervened in the analyzed area (communes within the boundaries
    of the WMA, at a distance of up to 3 km from the E75 railway line and ones crossed by national road 8/S8) in the period
    of the E75 line’s modernization. The analysis focuses on changes in settlement structure as well as the functioning of
    railway transport, with an assessment of the improvements by its users. Conclusions from the analysis of changes in the
    spatio-functional and socio-economical dimensions are described and concern the number of building licenses granted,
    changes in population size, changes in the number of registered natural person business entities, changes in the number
    of transactions on the real estate market. Moreover, in the area of transport, the paper presents an assessment of the
    quality of railway services on the E75 line through passengers’ opinions and the integration of the Baltic railway with
    alternative transport modes.
    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie najważniejszych wyników badań przeprowadzonych na potrzeby Studium
    wpływu modernizacji linii kolejowej E75 na rozwój Obszaru Metropolitalnego Warszawy, Przedmiotowe opracowanie
    powstało w ramach projektu NSB CoRe (North Sea Baltic Connector of Regions). W artykule zaprezentowano
    najważniejsze wnioski z przedmiotowego Studium, opisujące zmiany, które zaszły na obszarze badań (zawartego
    w granicach OMW, obejmującego gminy położone w zasięgu 3 km od linii kolejowej E75 oraz gminy, przez które
    przebiega droga krajowa nr 8/S8), w okresie trwającej modernizacji linii E75. W tym celu skoncentrowano się na analizie
    zmian w przestrzeni osadniczej oraz w zakresie funkcjonowania transportu kolejowego i oceny przez podróżnych
    przyjętych usprawnień. Opisano wnioski z analizy zmian w wymiarze funkcjonalno-przestrzennym i społecznogospodarczym
    obszaru badań w zakresie: wydanych pozwoleń na budowę, zmiany liczby ludności, zarejestrowanych
    podmiotów gospodarczych osób fizycznych, transakcji zawartych na rynku nieruchomości. W artykule przedstawiono
    również zmiany, które zaszły w okresie modernizacji w zakresie transportu obejmujące ocenę jakości usług
    przewoźników kolejowych realizowanych na linii E75, opinie pasażerów na temat funkcjonowania transportu
    kolejowego oraz powiązania kolei bałtyckiej z alternatywnymi środkami transportu.
