    Despite the fact that radio documentaries broadcast mainly strong emotions, the news valu of this genre is also an essential feature. Therefore, it is necessary to describe the potential of such works to expand knowledge about the surrounding world which could be significant for the listeners. The aim of this article is to present theses put forward by scholars with regard to radio documentaries. Researchers’ analyses are related to the genre’s potential to broaden people’s minds and influence the recipient’s perception.

    The aim of this article is to show the functions which music can perform in radio report-age. The analysis is based on documentaries created over the past decade by famous Polish reporters, such as Katarzyna Michalak, Cezary Galek, Julia Prus and Hanna Bo-gorya-Zakrzewska together with Ernest Zozuń. Fragments of their works were used as the exemplification of the different roles which soundtrack can perform, such as: to illus-trate, to describe, as well as to complete narration, composition or the characteristics of a situation, people, etc.

    The article is an attempt to enter scientific reflection relating to radio reportage in the field of sound studies, especially in one of its original elements — the theory of soundscape created by Raymond Murray Schafer in the 1960s. It starts with the basic terminological solutions in the field of soundscape and the audial form of reportage, then juxtaposes them with each other and indicates the possibilities of their mutual penetration in both scientific and media fields. It presents the common features of a radio documentary and a soundscape, e.g. focus on reality, attention to sound, specific narration, the use of the oral history method etc. This paper also shows the difference between these two forms such as a greater level of creativity in the case of reportage in combination with the “raw” naturalness of the soundscape. It also highlights how the idea of acoustic ecology can use radio reportage to disseminate its assumptions. Finally, it postulates the inclusion of this audio genre as an element of the soundscape to a harmonious hi-fi space and considers as justified to set together the experiences of both the discussed phenomena on theoretical as well as practical grounds, and to continue the reflection as sketched out in this article.

    Since the appearance of radio reportage in Poland, it has been evolving to this day. Along with its evolution, new divisions and definitions have developed. There is no one simple and consistent definition of radio reportage, as it is a specific king of work that exists between literature and fact. The article is an attempt to organise the main concepts of the radio reportage in Poland, and to present its specificity, as compared with other media, genres and practices.

    Niewidzialność przekazu radiowego implikuje dodatkowe wrażenia o charakterze innym niż audialny. Dzieło foniczne, w tym także reportaż radiowy, pobudza nie tylko słuch, ale przede wszystkim wyobraźnię dźwiękową odbiorcy. O sukcesie artystycznego przekazu radiowego można mówić tylko w sytuacji, gdy percepcji słuchowej towarzyszyć będą obrazy skojarzeniowe. Są one niezbędne do odczytania przekazu i właściwej identyfikacji postaci. W artykule zaprezentowano różne sposoby dźwiękowej prezentacji bohaterów. Foniczne oznaczenie postaci może odbyć się poprzez wykorzystanie wypowiedzi innych uczestników reportażu, a także poprzez wypowiedź reportera. Autor może również dokonać formalnej prezentacji, wykorzystując przy tym techniki typowe dla dziennikarstwa informacyjnego lub uciekając się do stylizacji, podporządkowując konwencji identyfikację bohatera. Najczęściej jednak uczestnicy reportażu pozostają anonimowi, dookreślani poprzez okoliczności towarzyszące.
    Apart from auditory impressions, the invisibility of radio messages implies additional stimuli. Phonic works, radio reportages included, stimulate not only the sense of hearing, but also the auditory imagination of their audiences. An artistic radio message may be perceived as successful only if the auditory perception is accompanied by associative images. They are essential for the proper comprehension of messages and identification of characters. The article presents various forms of auditory presentation of characters. Particular individuals may be phonically designated in the utterances made by other people depicted in the reportage, as well as by the reportage makers themselves. The author can also present them formally, using techniques typical for news journalism, or through the use of style, by subjecting the identification proces to the convention. Most often however, the characters remain anonymous and are specified only by the accompanying events.

    This article is an attempt to present the history of Polish radio reportage in a synthetic way, pointing out the most important features of the genre as well as the specificity of the Polish School of Reportage. The qualities developed there (including the “purity of form” and authenticity of sound) became distinguishing elements of the Polish reportage in the international arena. The artistic value of the audio creations makes today’s radio art researchers situate both radio play and sound reportage in the category of audio literature. This paper presents the development of radio reportage, taking into account the historical context as well as the communication perspective. Pointing to the aesthetic function of the message, the reportage is defined as a work of radio art, considered in terms of artistic impact.
    W artykule podjęto próbę syntetycznego ujęcia historii polskiego reportażu radiowego, wraz ze wskazaniem najistotniejszych cech gatunku, jak i specyfiki Polskiej Szkoły Reportażu. Wypracowane przez nią wyznaczniki, m.in. „czystość formy” i autentyczność dźwięku, stały się elementami wyróżniającymi polski reportaż na arenie międzynarodowej. Wartość artystyczna dzieł radiowych sprawia, że obecnie badacze radia sytuują zarówno słuchowisko, jak i reportaż dźwiękowy w kategorii: literatura audialna. W artykule zaprezentowano rozwój reportażu radiowego, uwzględniając kontekst historyczny oraz perspektywę komunikacyjną. Wskazując na estetyczną funkcję przekazu, reportaż został określony jako dzieło sztuki radiowej, rozpatrywane pod kątem oddziaływania artystycznego.

    Celem artykułu jest omówienie dokumentów radiowych dotyczących migrantów wojennych, które pojawiły się w polskich stacjach w pierwszych dwóch tygodniach konfliktu rosyjsko-ukraińskiego. Metodę badawczą stanowi analiza treści i artystycznych środków wyrazu dźwiękowego oraz analiza porównawcza. Dokumenty uchodźcze są dość jednorodne i kreślą polifoniczny portret migrantów jako społeczności, z której jednak można wyłonić indywidualne historie przesycone konkretną ludzką tragedią. Większość analizowanych prac skupia się na temacie, przywiązując nieco mniejszą wagę do formalnej strony, przez co tylko pojedyncze projekty można określić mianem reportaży artystycznych.
    The goal of the following text is to discuss radio documentaries concerning war emigrants that appeared in Polish stations during the first two weeks of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The research method used in the article is the analysis of the content and artistic means of audio expression as well as comparative analysis. Refugee documentaries are quite homogeneous and paint a polyphonic portrait of emigrants as a community, from which, however, it is possible to emerge individual stories saturated with concrete human tragedy. Most of the analyzed works focus on the subject, while attaching a little less importance to the formal side of the program, as a result only individual projects can be described as artistic reportages.

    W artykule rozpatrywany jest reportaż radiowy jako dzieło sztuki audialnej oraz jako przykład medialnej narracji historycznej. Analizie zawartości zostały poddane reportaże radiowe powstałe w Polskim Radiu po 1989 r., czyli transformacji ustrojowej, która dokonała się w krajach Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej. Z kolei analiza tematyczna została zawężona do reportaży podejmujących narrację historyczną, która dotyczy relacji Polski z jej sąsiadami (Czechy i Niemcy). Podjęto próbę syntetycznego ujęcia i scharakteryzowania tej narracji z uwzględnieniem stylistyki przekazu oraz technik organizacji materii audialnej. Analiza nie ogranicza się do poetyki przekazu, ale uwzględnia także wpływ ideologii społeczno-politycznej na sposób prowadzenia narracji.
    The author tackles a radio feature as a work of audio art and an example of a historical narrative in the media. Radio features broadcast by the Polish Radio after 1989, i.e., the system transformation which took place in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, were analysed with respect to their content. The thematic analysis was narrowed down to the features dealing with the historical narrative pertaining to the relations between Poland and its neighbours (Czech Republic and Germany). An attempt was made to approach this narrative and to characterise it synthetically, accounting for the style of the communication and the techniques of organising the audio material. The analysis is not limited to the poetics of the communication, but it also includes the impact of the socio-political ideology on the mode of the narrative.

    Reportaż radiowy jest dźwiękową formą relacjonowania rzeczywistości, literatura nie stanowi zatem bezpośredniego źródła dla jego twórców. Jednak w obrębie współczesnych produkcji radiowych znajdują się reportaże realizujące swoisty transfer literackich treści. W niniejszym artykule określono je jako reportażowe konkretyzacje literatury. Tego typu praktyki są audialnym aspektem charakterystycznych dla współczesnej kultury intermedialnych transpozycji. Artykuł omawia szczegółowe warunki przeniesienia literatury do formuły reportażu radiowego oraz prezentuje modelowe warianty realizacji dźwiękowych.
    Radio documentary is a sound form of reality covering, therefore may not be considered as a direct source for its authors. Nevertheless, within contemporary radio production, there are reportages constituting peculiar transfer of literary content. In this article, they are labeled as reportage concretization of literature. This type of practice is an audio aspect characteristic of contemporary culture intermedia transpositions. The article discusses specific conditions of literature translation to radio documentary formula and presents model variants of sound realizations.
