Opis:
R&D in the field of ballistic protection of an individual soldier have led to creation of personal protection equipment. Modern body armor allows substantial reduction of personnel losses from small arms. Unfortunately, it is not possible to ensure complete protection of the soldier by only those technical solutions which reduce threat penetration into the body armor, since the power of weapons is constantly increa sing and non-lethal ammunition has appeared; but the acceptable weight of body armor is limited. The paper presents the results of development of such components of soldier's equipment which improve his protection by reducing his signature for visual, night vision, thermal and radar reconnaissance.

Opis:
One popular approach to the problem of Non-Cooperative Target Identification is the use of 2D Inverse SAR images. Methods to successfully identify a target include the comparison of a set of scattering centers in the ISAR image to a database or the estimation of target dimensions. While working well in theory, these techniques face major difficulties in practice. In the conventional case of a monostatic radar, visibility of scattering centers varies with the target aspect angle due to fading. In this paper we examine that the visibility of scattering centers can be improved by incoherent addition of images from spatially distributed radars. The main focus lies in the description and results of a multistatic ISAR experiment carried out at Fraunhofer FHR. We display theoretically derived bistatic synchronization errors in a practical system and formulate additional multistatic synchronization requirements, necessary to add up the images.

Opis:
Radar and ARPA feature certain efficacy limitations due to weather conditions and target manoeuvres. Therefore, it appears rational to supplement the information derived from radar with additional information. A system which is claimed to be tailored to perform this task is AIS delivering proper information automatically and continuously. However, in certain users opinion, integrity of AIS data is still insufficient. In this paper, discussion concerning incompleteness and integrity of this type of data is presented. To prove effectiveness of AIS dynamic data in collision avoidance, detailed investigations have been conducted. Analysed data originate from the Gulf of Gdansk, dating back to the years 2006‐2012. According to the research results, there are exceptional situations, when the information coming from the sensors cooperating with AIS is incomplete. This problem concerns information related to HDG and ROT, especially, when the vessels are not “on the way”.

The paper presents joint operation of AIS-AtoN and radar. There was brought forward a fact of divergence of the information visualized in radar in cases when AIS receivers are produced by different manufacturers. It happens that the AtoN AIS information is not displayed by radar screen. It is also essential that not every ship is provided with AIS equipment; therefore the users cannot always fully take advantage of AtoN AIS in respect of functionality.

Opis:
Collision avoidance is one of the high-level safety objectives and requires a complete and reliable description of maritime traffic situation. A combined use of data provided by independent data sources is an approach to improve the accuracy and integrity of traffic situation related information. In this paper we study the usage of radar images for automatic identification system (AIS) and radar fusion. Therefore we simulate synthetic radar images and evaluate the tracking performance of the particle filter algorithm as the most promising filter approach. During the filter process the algorithm estimates the target position and velocity which we finally compare with the known position of the simulation. This approach allows the performance analysis of the particle filter for vessel tracking on radar images. In a second extended simulation we add the respective AIS information of the target vessel and study the gained level of improvement for the particle filter approach. The work of this paper is integrated in the research and development activities of DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation dealing with the introduction of data and system integrity into the maritime traffic system. One of the aimed objectives is the automatic assessment of the traffic situation aboard a vessel including integrity information.

Opis:
The article presents some possibilities of same type radar copies identification with the use of graphical representation. The procedure described by the authors is based on transformation and analysis of basic parameters distribution which are measured by the radar signal especially Pulse Repetition Interval. A radar intercept receiver passively collects incoming pulse samples from a number of unknown emitters. Information such as Pulse Repetition Interval, Angle of Arrival, Pulse Width, Radio Frequency and Doppler shifts are not usable. The most important objectives are to determine the number of emitters present and classify incoming pulses according to emitters. To classify radar emitters and precisely identification the copy of the same type of an emitter source in surrounding environment, we need to explore the detailed structure i.e. intra-pulse information, unintentional radiated electromagnetic emission and fractal features of a radar signal. An emitter has its own signal structure. This part of radar signal analysis is called Specific Emitter Identification. Utilization of some specific properties of electronic devices can cause heightening probability of a correct identification.

Opis:
This article presents the procedure of identification radar emitter sources with the trace distinctive features of original signal with the use of fractal features. It is a specific kind of identification called Specific Emitter Identification, where as a result of using transformations, which change measure points, a transformation attractor was received. The use of linear regression and the Lagrange polynomial interpolation resulted in the estimation of the measurement function. The method analysing properties of the measurement function which has been suggested by the authors caused the extraction of two additional distinctive features. These features extended the vector of basic radar signals’ parameters. The extended vector of radar signals’ features made it possible to identify the copy of radar emitter source.

Detection of small crafts/targets, in particular, sailing yachts with the ship's radar is not always possible. Radar reflectors are used to improve their detection. The AIS (Automatic Identification System) transmits position, motion vector and identification signals of a vessel to other ships and VTS (Vessel Traffic Services) centers . This system significantly increases the possibility to detect small crafts. The paper presents results of comparative study of using information from the Automatic Identification System and from radar to determine the accuracy of tracking the position and motion vector of ships in the Gulf of Gdansk. Possibilities and limitations of the AIS are also presented.

Opis:
This article presents an important task of classification, i.e. mapping surfaces which separate patterns in feature space in the scope of radar emitter recognition (RER) and classification. Assigning a tested radar to a particular class is based on defining its location from the discriminating areas. In order to carry out the classification process, it is necessary to define metrics in the feature space as it is essential to estimate the distance of a classified radar from the centre of the class. The method presented in this article is based on extraction and selection of distinctive features, which can be received in the process of specific emitter identification (SEI) of radar signals, and on the minimum distance classification. The author suggests a RER system which consists of a few independent channels. The task of each channel is to calculate the distance of the tested radar from a given class and finally, set the correct identification coefficient for each recognized radar. Thus, a multichannel system with independent distance measurement is obtained, which makes it possible to recognize particular radar copies. This system is implemented in electronic intelligence (ELINT) system and tested in real battlefield conditions.
