Opis:
A comparison of international literature in occupational safety and health (OSH) research over the years from 1980 to 1998 was conducted. The comparison is based on the different languages of the over 35,000 articles, which were collected from different databases. The distribution of languages in the analyzed data has to be considered carefully with respect to the original purpose of the data collection and the specific role of the international publication language, English. The comparison shows that in several aspects OSH research does not differ in different publication languages. In some methodological aspects, and in specific objects of research, differences between articles published in different languages can be found.

Opis:
Results of a project searching for objective, quantitative evaluation of postoperative wound healing in cardiosurgery are presented. We propose simple thermal models of the healing processes after cardiosurgery interventions as objective descriptors allowing classification of patients for extraction and following recovery at home or for prolonged treatment in a hospital. Classification of healing as the normal process or as a process with complications is possible based on temporal changes of proposed thermal descriptors.

The contribution summarizes nearly all the models of classification of the Slavic languages, presented in the past 350 years, from simple enumeration through the qualitative and quantitative approaches, typically leading to the developmental models depicted as tree-diagrams, as well as the linear and net models. The individual models, especially the quantitative ones, are discussed in detail and, finally, correlated with accounts of Byzantine historians.

Opis:
Azodicarbonamide (ADA) additives are limited or prohibited from being added to wheat flour by various countries because they may produce carcinogenic semicarbazide in humid and hot conditions. This study aimed to realize the non-destructive detection of ADA additives in wheat flour using high-throughput Raman imaging and establish a quantitative analysis model. Raman images of pure wheat flour, pure ADA, and wheat flour-ADA mixed samples were collected respectively, and the average Raman spectra of each sample were calculated. A partial least squares (PLS) model was established by using the linear combination spectra of pure wheat flour and pure ADA and the average Raman spectra of mixed samples. The regression coefficients of the PLS model were used to reconstruct the 3D Raman images of mixed samples into 2D grayscale images. Threshold segmentation was used to classify wheat flour pixels and ADA pixels in grayscale images, and a quantitative analysis model was established based on the number of ADA pixels. The results showed that the minimum detectable content of ADA in wheat flour was 100 mg/kg. There was a good linear relationship between the ADA content in the mixed sample and the number of pixels classified as ADA in the grayscale image in the range of 100 – 10,000 mg/kg, and the correlation coefficient was 0.9858. This study indicated that the combination of PLS regression coefficients with threshold segmentation had provided a non-destructive method for quantitative detection of ADA in Raman images of wheat flour-ADA mixed samples.

Opis:
The prevalence of lifestyle diseases and trends related to healthy eating contribute to the constant search for chemical compounds with specific biological activity. Studies are conducted on plants and substances of natural origin that have been used in medicine for millennia. Techniques of vibrational spectroscopy are an underrated group of methods enabling direct analysis of plant raw material and food in their native forms. The presented examples of Arabidopsis tissues, various species and hybrids of poplar and Cistus herb classification, as well as quantitative analyses of active compounds in plant material and pharmaceutical products and determination of physicochemical parameters of common food (i.e. milk, yoghurts, pasta and flour), demonstrate the possibility of using vibrational spectroscopy for comprehensive analysis of samples of natural origin. Typical measurement techniques and chemometric methods are briefly described in this paper. The scheme of quantitative analysis based on vibrational spectra is shown and the impact of selected experimental parameters on the accuracy of the obtained results is discussed. The imaging techniques used to analyse the changes in plant tissue structures caused by genetic mutations were also presented.
