In the article, a validation module, being a component of an integrated system supporting routing in software defined networks (SDNRoute), is proposed and thoroughly examined. The module allows for the verification of the results provided by the optimization module before these results are deployed in the production network. Routing policies are validated for their impact on the network quality parameters and against the threat of overloading (congestion).

The problem of automatic evaluation of the QoE parameter is a very interesting research area. Quality of Experience is a broad issue and requires the analysis of many aspects not only graphical user interfaces but also, inter alia, Quality of Service and user ratings.

Nowadays, the advancement and increased use of fifth-generation (5G) and sixth-generation (6G) systems have created a demand for more efficient and rapid transmission of information over wireless communication media. However, developing wireless communication systems that can meet these modern-day criteria for fast, reliable, and secure information exchange is a challenging task. To address this issue, this paper proposes a novel model for enhancing the 5G system. The proposed model utilizes polar code with rate matching and constitutional interleaving over the Suzuki fading channel. The combination of polar codes with rate matching and interleaving enables the communication system to achieve a lower error rate and better reliability over a Suzuki fading channel. Specifically, the polar code can correct a larger number of errors, while rate matching and interleaving can mitigate the effects of channel variations and reduce the probability of error bursts. These enhancements can lead to more robust and reliable communication in wireless networks.

In this article, methods of evaluating the quality of voice transmitted are specified. Some exemplary principles of testing usability of a network to provide VoIP services are suggested. Mechanisms that enable it to improve the quality of calls in the existing data networks liave been discussed.

Opis:
Na podstawie prac prowadzonych w IŁ przedstawiono najważniejsze wymagania stawiane sieciom realizującym usługę VoIP. Wyszczególniono aspekty techniczne związane z przesyłaniem pakietów głosowych w sieci danych. Omówiono problemy dotyczące zaadaptowania protokołu IP do usługi VoIP. Opisano czynniki wpływające na jakość głosu przenoszonego w sieci danych i zaproponowano ogólny proces testowania jakości głosu w sieciach o ustalonej charakterystyce ruchu.
In this article, the most important requirements to be satisfied by the VoIP data networks are presented as based on the research carried out by the NIT. Technical aspects concerning the transmission of voice packets in a data network are specified. Problems due to the IP protocol being adapted to the VoIP service are discussed. Factors influencing the quality of voice transmitted in a data network are described and a general process of testing the quality of voice in the data networks of stabilised characteristics of traffic is suggested.

In this paper, a general framework for modelling stochastic service curves for communication networks is presented. It connects with each other two approaches to the traffic analysis and performance evaluation of communication systems, namely, the one which is called a deterministic network calculus with its stochastic counterpart. Thereby, it enables to treat any communication traffic in a consistent way. Further, as we show here, it enables also achieving new results. Derivation of the above model is presented in details in this paper. Finally, some hints are given how the method presented in this article could be applied in maritime telecommunications area.

The main objectives of the MarCom project (‘Maritime Communications - broadband at sea’) are to investigate the main user needs and communication technologies requirements to accommodate those needs within the maritime community. The project will carry out several pilots to demonstrate the usability of terrestrial wireless technologies in combination with, and in some areas instead of satellite communication (SatCom). The major benefit to the maritime users are expected to be reduced costs, increased bandwidth, Quality-of-Service (QoS) and improved communication security and versatility. The MarCom approach is characterized by combining thorough investigations of present and future user needs through nine scenarios/user cases along with identification of cost-effective communication platforms to match the application requirements being obtained. The MarCom investigations have revealed the bandwidth needs for a set of application groups, and identified the data integrity requirements for each group. Furthermore this paper is addressing the MarCom work with the IMO/IALA e-Navigation strategic initiative in establishing the bandwidth requirements to obtain the major objectives of the e-Navigation concept.

W ostatnich latach obserwujemy rosnącą potrzebę zapewnienia odpowiedniej jakości świadczonych usług w lokalnych sieciach bezprzewodowych. W tym celu opracowany został standard IEEE 802.11e. Niestety, jak pokazują badania naukowe, nie jest on pozbawiony wad. W prezentowanej pracy zaproponowano nowy protokół o nazwie PUMA-TCS (Priority Unavoidable Multiple Access with Traffic Category Support) pozwalający na lepsze różnicowanie ruchu oraz większe gwarancje świadczenia usług z określoną jakością. W pracy zawarto również wyniki badań oraz analizę porównawczą obu protokołów, przeprowadzonych przy użyciu wybranych symulatorów sieci bezprzewodowych, co pozwoliło wskazać zalety oraz wady badanych metod dostępu.
There is a growing interest in QoS provisioning for wireless local area networks in recent years. Because of this, the IEEE 802.11e standard was introduced. Unfortunately, a few research papers show, that it has a number of serious flaws. The presented work describes a new protocol called PUMA-TCS (Priority Unavoidable Multiple Access with Traffic Category Support), that allows for better than IEEE 802.11e traffic differentiation and QoS guarantees. Research results and comparative analysis of protocols using selected simulators are also included in the paper. This allows to reveal a pros and cons of both channel access schemes.

Opis:
Podstawowym parametrem sieci WLAN jest przepustowość transmisji. Zdefiniowane w standardzie przepustowości maksymalne teoretyczne są w warunkach rzeczywistych ograniczane z jednej strony jakością kanału transmisyjnego, a z drugiej sposobem działania samego standardu. W przypadku standardu IEEE 802.11 zastosowana metoda komunikacji DCF wprowadza obowiązkowe przerwy w nadawaniu – interwały czasowe IFS, które powodują zmniejszenie przepustowości osiąganej w jednostce czasu. W artykule omówiono różne ulepszenia metody DCF, zaproponowane w wyniku prac naukowo-badawczych. Porównano je pod względem przydatności w rzeczywistych zastosowaniach.
The basic parameter of the WLAN is transmission output. The defined in the standard of output capacity maximum theoretical values are in the real conditions limited, on the one hand, by the transmission channel quality and, on the other hand, by the way in which the very standard acts. In the case of standard IEEE 802.11, the applied method of communication DCF (distributed coordination function) introduces the obligatory pauses in broadcasting – temporal intervals IFS which cause a reduction of the output capacity achieved in a time unit. In their article, the authors discussed various improvements of the DCF method proposed in result of research works. They are compared in terms of their usefulness in the real applications.

Workstations, CPU etc are in a period of transition, moving from a relatively slow network links and data oriented services to a high set fibre optic services and more diverse services. As such many of the hard and soft real time will not only demand high bandwidth but also a predictable and guarantee Quality of Service (QoS) along side ,which is not offered in a best effort network (BE). The provision and terms of (QoS) to real-time applications is a key issue in promising broadband packet switched networks and network of other sorts. Applications such as voice and video typically require QoS guarantees in terms of end-to-end data transfer delays. Supporting the diverse and of course, heterogeneous delay requirements of applications with widely varying characteristics requires packet scheduling schemes more sophisticated than First-In-First-Out (FIFO) at each switch in the network(2) are one of most accepted examples of such scheduling schemes. This points to the convincing need for a QoS, which apportion a high network utilization to be realized.In this paper, we focus on the EDF scheduling scheme, since it is known to provide the optimal delay performance (2), in the deterministic environment, and can for this reason be expected to perform well in the real time setting as well. The large amount of bandwidth as promised by the future network also offer the integration of real time applications, hard or soft.

IP scheduled throughput defined according to 3GPP TS 36.314 reflects user throughput regardless of traffic characteristics, and therefore has become one of the most important indicators for monitoring Quality of Service (QoS) of the end user in Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN). However, networks built on a distributed architecture make the above definition impossible to be applied directly due to the implementation challenges. This paper gives an overview of the classical Long Term Evolution (LTE) architecture as opposed to Dual Connectivity (DC) topology and focuses on a novel method of solving the calculation issue with the IP scheduled throughput measurement in edge computing environment. Experimental results show a good agreement with the real end user perception.

Thanks to the availability of mobile devices and the spread of broadband access around the world, the number of network users continues to grow. This has raised user awareness when it comes to the quality of content they consume. Many service providers and operators focus on monitoring QoN (Quality of Network) and QoS (Quality of Service) parameters, particularly those influenced by bandwidth and latency. However, for most end-users, quality is understood as the subjective QoE (Quality of Experience), a mixture of several individual factors. This paper presents a QoN evaluation, carried out under real-time operating conditions at a university campus, considering the overall performance of the cellular network. The study involved 50 mobile devices, i.e., smartphones, used by students during their typical activity throughout a week. The results were gathered on the eve of 5G, using a custom-built Android application. This application enabled the acquisition of valuable data about the wireless link, including download and upload speed, latency (pink), the ID of the serving base station, and type of cellular connection. This approach can be used to detect the strengths and weaknesses of back-end networks.

The IP QoS System is based on next generation networks (NGN) and differentiated services (DiffServ) architectures. Its main part is a signaling system, which allows to send a request from a user to the system for establishing new connection with predefined quality of service assurance. In this paper we present trial results of the proposed signalling system. The experiments were performed to measure setup delay utilizing artificial call generator/analyzer. To obtain results we assumed different distributions of interarrival and call holding times based on the literature. The results show that the setup delay strongly depends on access time to network devices, however also on the assumed call holding time models.

Quality of service (QoS) is an important attribute for selecting a service during the service composition process. Although availability and reliability have been considered as the predominant factors for estimating reputation, two aspects are missing in the literature. First, their use is limited to composite service level and does not count on the atomic level. Second, their combined effect is not evaluated. Better estimation of QoS can be done with both factors considered together, whereas when taken separately for computing reputation, availability will give the probability of a service being up/running and reliability will analyze the change in failure trend of that service. In this research, a mathematical modeling of predominant QoS factors, availability and reliability of atomic services using Markov Chain model and Weibull analysis respectively, are suggested. Also importance of modeling reputation as an aggregation of availability and reliability has been explained. This research concludes two results. First, counting on probability of a service being up/running and its failure trend, together, results in a better estimation of its behavior and helps selecting the most appropriate one. Second, this resulted in selection of a service with higher reputation but lower usage cost, as opposed to using a single factor that resulted in higher reputation with higher cost.

In the recent ten years, with the development of new applications through Internet such as multimedia or networked control applications, users need more and more quality of service (QoS). However, the requested QoS is not the same depending on the application. Most of the new models to manage internet traffic are based on specific QoS criteria which should be optimized. This paper presents main multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) approaches such as MPLS adaptive traffic engineering (MATE), load distribution in MPLS (LDM) and load balancing over widest disjoints paths (LBWDP) that are new models for traffic engineering. It also introduces periodic multi-step (PEMS) algorithm that adapts the offered quality depending on the class of the routed traffic.
