Opis:
Information is the basic tool of inter vivos communication. It serves as a carrier for many data. Thanks to it, many areas of human life can function. Cybernetic scientists have recognized that mankind has difficulty defining and defining „information”. Marian Mazur undertook the task of creating the definition. His research laid the groundwork for a qualitative information theory. Its task was to define the information and carry out the analysis and synthesis of this important reality. Moreover, it showed the differences between doctrine and science. Information science and its theory and quality have shown that scientists want their views to fit with reality. Doctrinaires need reality to match their views. The task of a scientist is to search for truth, therefore he is worried about the difficulties of finding it. The doctrinaire knows the truth from the beginning and enjoys its completeness. Moving on, the scientist has a lot of doubts that what the science says is true, while the representative of the doctrine has no doubt that what the doctrine says is true. After all, the scientist thinks what science says is impermanent, so the doctrine says what the doctrine says lasts forever. The above study showed what information is and what the science of information looks like, moreover, its basic dimension was presented, indicating its operational and essential character. A very valuable description is the analysis of various areas of human life, in which there are various types of information, among them false and false. Pseudoinformation and disinformation occur very often, therefore the next thought expressed in the article was the characteristics and their practical application.

Opis:
The paper seeks to identify the key characteristics of digital goods, or goods – such as digital images, music files and e-books – that exist in digital form and are shipped to the consumer through e-mail or via the internet. The authors start out by carrying out an ontological analysis based on literature studies in different fields, including economics, information theory and philosophy. The two main concepts used in the research are Polish engineer Józef Kossecki’s general qualitative theory of information and Aristotle’s theory of hylomporhism. The paper introduces a distinction between two kinds of digital goods: pure digital goods and converted digital goods. Pure digital goods consist of two levels, the author says, the digital original and the file embedded within the medium. Converted digital goods consist of four levels: the form, the physical original, the digital image, and the file embedded within the medium. Digital goods vary between the different levels and have a specific cost structure, Wieczerzycki says. The producer pays the fixed cost related to the production of digital goods as well as the cost of network infrastructure needed for distribution. The consumer, on the other hand, covers variable costs related to the creation of copies of files embedded within a medium.
W ramach rozważań przeprowadzonych w artykule, wyróżnione zostają dwa typy produktów cyfrowych – czyste produkty cyfrowe i skonwertowane produkty cyfrowe.

Opis:
Znajomość zasad rządzących postępowaniem każdego z charakterów pozwala przewidzieć zachowanie ludzi o danym charakterze w każdej sytuacji i umożliwia wskazanie im takiego obszaru działalności, w którym będą odnosić największe sukcesy. Cybernetyczna teoria charakterów ma zatem szerokie możliwości stosowania jej w oświacie, psychologii oraz teorii organizacji i zarządzania jako metoda ułatwiająca podejmowanie decyzji optymalnych.
Professor Marian Mazur (1909-1983) was the electrical engineer, specialized in electrothermics, and the founder of the Polish Cybernetics School. Prof. Mazur is the author of two, worldwide groundbreaking theories: "The theory of the autonomous cybernetic systems" (1966) and "The qualitative theory of information" (1970). In his work "Cybernetics and character" (1976) he related the autonomous systems theory (i.e. able to control itself and able to preserve this ability) to a human being as an example of an autonomous system; he further defined a human character as a set of rigorous control parameters. These parameters cannot be influenced by the environment, except for the destructive effects. It means the human character is non-convertible, and in case of a conflict between a character and a situation, it is the situation that should be changed. This approach varies from that applied in psychology. By analyzing how the autonomous system proceeds the matter, the energy and information, Prof. Marian Mazur defined five kinds of human characters, putting them in order according to the extent of their ability to collect and distract. The knowledge of the basic rules that determine each character's actions allows predetermining actions of a human being with a particular character in every situation. It also enables indicating the most appropriate range of activity for them to succeed. Thus, the cybernetic theory of characters can be widely applied in education, psychology, and the organization and management theory, including human resources, as a method for optimizing the decision-making process.

The article presents the basic concepts and methodological procedures of grounded theory methodology that uses visual data and is called visual grounded theory. It uses the visual data to con¬struct categories, theoretical properties of categories for action and visual phenomena that manifest themselves as processes. Present article introduces, therefore, the rules and procedures for visual grounded theory based on both my own, and other authors research experience. In order to bet¬ter illustrate the procedures in question, there are presented examples of these studies. The visual analysis is conducted at four levels: creating an image, its presentation, its content and structure and its reception. It is the basis for the concept of multislice imagining and visual grounded theory helps to reconstruct it.

In the paper, we present the development of symbolic interactionism (SI) in Poland by tracing and discussing its beginnings, as well as the influence the Chicago School had on the reception of SI in Polish sociology. Furthermore, we differentiate between two trends in the development of SI in Poland. One is connected with the early theoretical elaborations of the SI orientation and translations of classical books representing this perspective; another is linked with empirical work underpinned by SI concepts and the grounded theory approach in empirical research and data analysis. Stressing the importance of translations of classical texts of SI in its reception in Poland, we emphasize the role of field research and applications of SI concepts in sociological investigations that we shortly characterize.

Opis:
Many PhD students begin as unconscious Naturalists or Emotionalists using interview studies to report people’s “experience” of an unquestioned social “problem.” An analysis of articles in one journal shows that this naïve use of interview data has become the common currency of qualitative research. In a critique of one such article, I show how interview studies may simply reproduce interviewees’ own accounts, glossed over by a few social science categories. By “mining” interviews for apposite extracts, such researchers lose sight of how sequence is consequential for what we say and do. Much more needs to be done if qualitative research is not to be just a set of techniques but an analytic project, different from journalism.

The paper is based on personal 20-year experience of teaching qualitative methods and methodology of grounded theory. In the following paper I would like to show the usefulness of visual analysis in teaching methodology of grounded theory. A very important tool is sequencing of pictures which gives a comparative insight into empirical data and teaches the comparative method. Students can learn how to compare and find patterns in empirical instances which have visual character. Some of the sequences show stages of action and the sequence which is a linear representation of activity. In other case, the sequences of pictures given to students are not planned. They are almost accidentally created and force students to find patterns by means of the comparative analysis. We should always know what was happening before a picture was taken as well as afterwards, it is similar to sequences analysis in textual data (Silverman, 2007: 61 -84, 146). Students are also encouraged to saturate categories using data from photos. This helps them to proceed with the research from empirical incidents to conceptually elaborated properties of categories and finally to the definition of category. They also get familiar with the procedure of saturating category. In this way they learn visual grounded theory, that is using the visual images for generating categories, properties and hypotheses.

The subject of the article is an analysis of the most important contexts of emergence and the crucial tendencies apparent in the field of contemporary art based research. The author reconstructs the historical coincidence in the humanities and social sciences, which enabled the emergence of art based research. The author analyzes the changes within the field of qualitative research and cultural studies, especially those being conducive to searching the qualities of socio-cultural phenomena through artistic practices. An analysis of the methodological tendencies and the basic aesthetic categories of that field is undertaken and a question about the value of the qualities gained in the course of the artisticly based research is posed. The article inscribes the art based research in the context of the fourth historical phases of qualitative research by the discerned Yvonne S. Lincoln and Norman K. Denzin, and also in the democratic and postmodern flow of cultural studies. It underlines the importance of the reflexive turn in anthropology, but most of all, the role of the cultural analysis of literature and the narrative turn. It punctuates as the most important in the field of art based research – the modern dichotomy between knowledge and emotion. From that dichotomy the basic ways of defining the cognitive possibilities of art has emerged. Artistic practices are treated here as evocative, revealing emphatic experience. Finally, the author undertakes a comparative analysis of the modern theory of art and the activity of symbolization in the conception of Susanne K. Langer with the conception of evocative, epiphanic genres and identifies them as the two crucial tendencies in the field of art based research. They are analyzed as defining differently the cognitive qualities of art, resulting in distinct ethical and political consequences.

Opis:
Contemporary discussion on the main tendencies in the field of art based research for qualitative research is based on the already accepted belief that art is also the cognitive practice. The discourse about artistic as cognitive should be then moved forward, and the questions about the concrete examples of synergy of artistic and qualitative research should be posed. The profits resulting from this contract should be evaluated, and the inventory of the real democratic equivalence of artistic and humanistic tools should be done. How the balance between competences and roles in the artistic-qualitative research is maintained? Can we speak about them as of art based, or maybe it would be better to cautiously think of them as of arts informed? Are these projects the most experimental and critical bridgehead of the qualitative research, or rather trade trend of proffesionals? Should we treat them as examples of the interdisciplinary practices, or rather as exemplars of the transdisciplinary cultural analysis? The last mentioned will serve here as the axis of deliberations: from the perspective of cultural analysis we will evaluate the role of art in the field of qualitative research. Articles gathered in this issue represent the wide range of the possible approaches to the art based research. The introductory article of my authorship, „Between authonomy and ephiphany. Art based research, qualitative research and the theory of art”, attempts the analysis of the main tendencies within the field of art based research in the historical, methodological and aesthetical terms. It draws the historical coincidence in the social sciences and the humanities which enabled the emergence of the artistic qualitative research, and emhasizes the special role of the narrative turn. It reveals the slits within the cultural analysis and the qualitative research which became the new places for the artistic-research practices. It also reveals the entanglement of these practices in the dichotomies founded on the modern theories of art and analyzes the most important of them: between the autonomy of artistic symbolical forms and the epiphanic evocativeness of art. The last mentioned emerges on the foundation of the presence and experience, and in the consequence, opens the social spaces for the ethics of care. An article of Dariusz Brzostek, „Black Science – Black Magic. Afrofuturism, narrative and cognition”, can serve as an example of the classical cultural analysis in the semiotic-critical spirit, representative for this version of cultural studies which was explicitly conducive for the growing tendencies of art based research. An analysis of afrofuturism as the narrative formation and speculative fiction which are formative for the specific socio-cultural groups, realizes an assumption of Paul Willis of searching the creative action in the practices of everyday life. The democratic impetus of cultural studies has diminished the historical burden of an autonomy of art, treating it as the one of many cultural practices, as a place of production of socially important meanings, and in the same time, has strenghtened the labourious practices of cultivation of every day – accentuating its creative aspects in the terms of art living. In the Brzostek’s cultural analysis which can be defined as artistically informed, one can also notice the clue of the narrative turn. The productive and formative aspects of the popular narrations are crucial in this analysis: they tie together the two records of the qualitative research – biographies and social structures. In the consequence, an analysis of afrofuturism reminds the best years of the cultural studies, as from the Paul Willis’ projects Learning to Labour: How Working Class Kids Get Working Class Jobs. The clue of the disciplinary thinking, attempting to situate the art based research in the front of, within, and besides other social sciences and the humanities is continued in the article of Dorota Łuczak, „The Iconology of X-Ray Images”. Łuczak analyzes the history of the process of including X-ray photography in the area of the interest of the history of art, especially in the project conducted by Horst Bredekamp, Das Technische Bild in years 2000-2012 in Hermann von Helmholtz–Zentrum für Kulturtechnik at the University in Berlin. In the epistemological and metodological aspect, the project raised the problem of the subject of the visual research and the role of technical images in the social process of construction of knowledge. The subject of the inquiry was rather not the prove of the social construction of the visual reality (as in the anglo-saxian visual studies) but rather an analysis of the reciprocial determination between systems of knowledge and the conventions of representation of technical images. Finally, in the conclusion an author points out, that it is not necassary to resign from the rigours of the art historian analysis (style, iconology, comparative studies), that they can be productive for the research of the bodily, perceptual, subjective and habitual contexts of the technical images. Most of all, the subjectivitizing category of style can be refferred to the mental constructs constituting the processes of knowing. The usage of drawing, sketching and doodling in the practice of the organizational development is the subject of consideration of Adam Dzidowski in his article „The formative role of art and organisational aesthetics – visualisation and drawing in organisational development”. Dzidowski analyzes drawing as an expressive medium, enabling to reveal the creative and innovative solutions. Drawing and sketching can be seen as a cognitive tools, resolving problems, representing the stage of the organizational development, diagnozing, searching for the creative solutions. In those areas their usage in the organizational development inscribes itself into the heuretic tendencies in the field of art based research – as the practices of creation of the generative formulas, resulting with the creative scripts of action. The achievement of these goals can be supported by the artictic practices changing the models of organizations and breaking the prevailing schemes of thinking. Dzidowski refers to the dychotomy between functionalism and the cultural and interpretive studies, outlining the situation in which the management practice is still founded on the functional paradigm and the artistic tool of drawing is intended to „soften” this quantitative and formal attitude. He refers to the old dychotomy between the structuralism and ethnography, the scientific heritage of Emile Durkheim and the sociological writings of Georg Simmel – revealing in the same time the deep entanglement of the art based research in the series of various oppositions. The most solid of them is the opposition between knowledge and emotion, from which the whole current Issue of Art and Documentation begins. The two articles in this Issue: of the duo Joanna Bielecka-Prus and Aneta Pepaś and an article of Karolina Sikorska, represent the activist tendency in the field of art based research. The perspective of Bielecka-Prus and Pepaś is the precise reconstruction of the realized by them project Where the cocs crow – the wedding ethnoperformance. This was the animation-research enterprise, organized by the City Culture Centre in Dynów, realized with the cooperation with ethnographers, anthropologists, ant socio-cultural animators. This two-voice reconstruction is then the record of the interdysciplinary art based research project. The aim of this ethnoperformative action was the reconstruction and play of the the wedding ceremony characteristic of the Dynów Foothill, for which the point of departure was a scenario of the wedding from Ulanica. It was not the accuracy of the ethnographic reconstruction at the stake of this action, but rather the mediation of tensions and relations in the local communities through the common, performative action. The wide range of the qualitative research has been centered around the scenario of the wedding ceremony, scenario negotiated with the local community. The final version of the ethnodrama, the performative scipt built on the basis of data gathered in the research, was the common decision of the inhabitants of the Dynów Foothill. An article of Karolina Sikorska, „Female artists in work and about work. The cognitive dimensions of art” reveals this version of the activist tendency in the field of art based research which does not exist without the critical theory. This perspective takes often the critically based form of detailed case studies. Sikorska in the context of the subject matter of this Issue draws the specific map of the problems specific for the cultural and political contexts of work of women artists at Academies and Universities. She poses fundamental questions for the practice of the art based research: what makes impossible and what enables being the artist-researcher functioning in the institutional structure and not in the partisan field beyond that. Finally Sikorska points out three concrete artistic-cognitive strategies taken by women making art about other women work. Paula Milczarczyk, an author of an article „Omnis natura artificiosa est. Project The Symbiosity of Creation” in the light of the theory of paraartistic values” analyzes the artistic practice of Jarosław Czarnecki/Elvin Flamingo in the context of an aesthetics of reality and the conception of paraartistic values of Maria Gołaszewska. Finally, Sebastian Dudzik and Marek Glinkowski in the dialogue „The graphic art as a cognitive tool. The two voices about the matrix” convey the conversation of the artist and art historian considering the cognitive aspects of the ways of thinking and action in the graphic art. They represent the graphic thinking as the paradigmatic for the media art, they define the notion of the matrix, the matrix thinking, the cultural matrix, the matrix trancoding, analyzing the transitivity of these notions from the classic graphical techniques to the new media art. Using the cultural matrix notion, they define graphic art as the medial tool of the cultural analysis. We were opening this section on art based research with the assumption of the qualitatively directed cultural analysis of Paul Willis, that the symbolical wholeness of the expressive human life is the sort of art, and its research demands aesthetic tools. Similarily, in the aesthetics of paraartistic values, artistic structures are treated as usable to the reality. Artist become in this context an accoucher, revealer, finder of the hidden aspects of the reality, who helps to see and analyze its qualities.

Model of methodological and theoretical pluralism, developed after the behavioral revolution, allows different methods and purposes of approach in research of political spheres of social life. For many years, it seemed that the current consensus is not threatened, that the acceptance of the status quo is widespread. As it turned out, however, post-behavioral order and peace were hiding under the surface of old conflicts and contradictions, and generated new ones. Somewhat like 100 years ago, at the beginning of the new century, they flowed on the surface – colliding with each other – as completely different visions of policy research, based on a different meaning of objectivity and truth and the role that the gained knowledge plays in the society. In October 2000, to a dozen American political scientists and publishers of professional magazines there was sent an e-mail, signed “Mr. Perestroika”, containing harsh criticism of the system of forces existing in the American political science, under which there is a strong dominance of representatives of science-oriented mathematical modeling and quantitative methods, and representatives of other approaches are being discriminated against. This letter, commonly called the “Perestroika Manifesto”, has rapidly spread in the network, gaining a few hundred followers within a few weeks. It became the nucleus of an informal Perestroika Movement, which brought together a larger group of political scientists dissatisfied with the current model of discipline. They performed against the domination of investigator-driven assumptions of logical positivism and radical behaviorism, based on the assumption that it is possible to predict the political behavior on the basis of the theories of rationality. They also questioned focusing on discovering universal, independent of context, truths about politics, based on testing causal hypotheses with regard to the behavior of political actors and the quest to build a general theory. Th is results in their opinion that there is the marginalization of other studies aimed at clarifying and resolving specifi c issues and, on the other hand, the need of search for a more explicit link between theory and practice. Supporters of the Perestroika Movement do not reject entirely quantitative methods, only tend to criticize their absolutizing character, involving the complete discrediting of approaches which are not referring to the quantifi cation of data or treating this type of treatment only as a complementary knowledge considerations based on normative narrative. Th erefore, they generally tend to the concept of methodological triangulation, in which quantitative techniques may complement and partially be a form of verifi cation of qualitative methods in various research issues, of course, if you can combine both types of approaches. Th ey are clearly in favor of the primacy of the essence of research method. From this point of view, based on compliance with the applicable rules of methodological research, they do not have to be in this respect particularly innovative, hyper-precise or mathematicised. Th ey should, however, contain a well-constructed argumentation, allowing reliably resolve important issues. Th e result should be to restore compounds research and theoretical knowledge with the real problems of political life, moving away from the extreme containment and academic character towards the relationship of knowledge about politics of social practice.

Opis:
The article concerns the methodological and theoretical aspects of research carried out in the environment of intellectually disabled people. The issues of intellectual disability pose a challenge for researchers; individuals with an intellectual disability constitute a specific group, the research of which requires an interpretative approach, that is, open and flexible research methods. Therefore, the main stress in the article is on proving the usefulness of the interpretative perspective, along with the advantages of adopting the grounded theory methodology to research this category of people. These approaches make it possible to adjust the research strategy to the characteristics of the explored research area. They allow for in-depth analysis of empirical data and thus create conditions for an accurate depiction of the researched environment. Making reference to research on the environment of intellectually disabled people, the usefulness of grounded theory methodology procedures was assessed in a broader context of research conducted in the interpretative paradigm.

Opis:
The main aim of the article is to identify the capabilities and constraints of using CAQDAS (Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software) programs in qualitative data analysis. Our considerations are based on the personal experiences gained while conducting the research projects using the methodology of grounded theory (GT) and the NVivo 8 program. In presented article we focused on relations between the methodological principles of grounded theory and the technical possibilities of NVivo 8. The paper presents our opinion about the most important options available in NVivo 8 and their application in the studies based on the methodology of grounded theory.

This paper outlines my concerns with Qualitative Data Analysis' (QDA) numerous remodelings of Grounded Theory (GT) and the subsequent eroding impact. I cite several examples of the erosion and summarize essential elements of classic GT methodology. It is hoped that the article will clarify my concerns with the continuing enthusiasm but misunderstood embrace of GT by QDA methodologists and serve as a preliminary guide to novice researchers who wish to explore the fundamental principles of GT.
