Opis:
This paper analyses the publishing trends of children’s literature in Italy on the basis of the annual reports issued by LiBeRWEB. The analysis, which focuses on the book publishing market, starts by introducing the main Italian publishing houses, in whose hands the publication of children’s books is concentrated. The paper will also talk about independent micropublishing by introducing the most active publishing houses, which are specialised in specific areas, such as gender studies. The publishing market will be progressively investigated by analysing several data, which suggest that literature for children and young adults is the driving segment of the Italian book publishing market. Indeed, despite the economic crisis, this is the only segment that has had positive results in the last years. In particular, the data examine several elements, which will allow us to understand such a phenomenon. If in the last years the so-called “high literature” has lost many percentage points (-7.6% in 2009), the “Cinderella of literature” has, instead, obtained positive results (+4%), maintaining constant production levels. Despite the use of percentages, the analysis takes into consideration other elements, like the quality of works, whose criteria are difficult to establish. The data show a positive change: if up to 2006 the number of novels of mediocre quality was high, probably do to a consumer trend of the market, from 2007 onwards, the situation progressively improves. Finally, the article briefly discusses the data of the digital market by analysing the role of audiobooks and e-books in the Italian market of children’s literature.

Opis:
In the early nineteenth century bookbinding work was done by traditional craftsmen’s methods. Workshop equipment and technology has not developed from the late Renaissance. In the nineteenth century new equipment and machinery were built to speed up the process o binding books and to allow larger runs. New technologies have led to changes in work organization and the creation of larger plants. The process of bookbinding mechanization in Poland was based mainly on German equipment and proceeded with a slight delay from the German bookbinding. Due to the small market orders, only a few binding workshops developed into medium or small factories. Bookbinding works were also created by printers and publishers. Full conversion of the bookbinding from outwork into the industry took place after World War II in the state binderies, which are now branches of printing plants.

Opis:
The publishing sector in Poland generates about 0.5 percent of GDP. Number of employees in the book industry as a whole is more than 80 thousand and in the publishing houses – almost 6 thousand. In recent years, the situation of the sector steadily worsens, including as a result the government action, such as raising the VAT rate in 2011. Textbooks are a segment of the book industry with the highest value. It is, depending on the methodology, from 840 million PLN to approximately 1.3 billion PLN. The main problems associated with the distribution of books are: a steadily increasing number of issued titles, prolonged sale of inventory from the previous years, difficulties of EMPiK trade policy, monopoly of some wholesalers and a decline in sales of traditional bookselling in favor of online purchases, including used books. Situation of printing companies is slightly better, although the problems of the entire market reflects on this sector as well. Particularly on smaller companies. Government programs – e-books and free textbooks are one of the most serious threats to the entire book market.

Opis:
Spadek ten został zrekompensowany wiele lat później poprzez udostępnienie wszystkich wyżej wymienionych prac zarówno w wersji analogowej, jak i cyfrowej poprzez Bibliotekę Cyfrową Instytutu.
The article aims to present the long-term development of the publishing house, currently operating under the name of Scientific Works of the Oil and Gas Institute – National Research Institute, continuing the activity of the Oil Institute, which started publishing monographs in 1945. Thus, after several decades of uninterrupted activity of the publishing house, we are now able to attempt a summary and draw conclusions. During this period, the name of the publishing house and the priorities changed, but the goal was always the same: to present the most important achievements in scientific and technological activities of the Institute, to document the individual achievements of scientific, research, and technical staff, and to initiate new technical, technological, and methodological solutions in cooperation with the industry. In the period from 1950 to 2021, a total of 357 such works were published. For many years, the criteria for acceptance of manuscripts have been gradually changed, and it has finally been accepted that priority is given to scientific monographs based on doctoral and habilitation theses, as well as international scientific programs and research projects with high implementation potential. It was noted that the volume of circulation of individual works has been decreasing over time, which was due to a shift from seeing a manuscript as training material for the industry, to seeing it as documentation of scientific research and R&D work. This decline was compensated many years later by making all the above-mentioned works available in analogue and digital versions through the Institute's Digital Library.

Opis:
The book market in Poznań at the turn of the 1920s and the 1930s got a particular boost and encouragement. Following a temporary softening of the strict policy of the German authorities towards the Poles, Polish lending libraries and bookshops publishing in Polish and for the Poles began to crop up. The press market, publishing both local newspapers and journals, enjoyed a particular development. Karol Reyzner was a lesser known publisher and undoubtedly stayed in the shade of more eminent and prominent figures such as Walenty Stefański, Jan K. Żupański, Napoleon Kamieński, Antoni Popliński and Ludwik Merzbach. His influence upon the local book market was far less intensive than that of the above mentioned publishers as his publications were not that numerous or important. However, K. Reyzner managed to survive on the market for as long as half a century, i.e. for a much longer period than many other prominent local Polish publishers of the time. Publishing primarily books for less educated people and specializing in publications with no scientific or literary aspirations, simple and cheap judging from the editorial standards, he nevertheless carried out an important social function. The present article discusses the history of Reyzner’s printing office and its publishing output, additionally outlining the role of the lending library attached to the printing office – the first one managed by a Pole and targeted at the local Polish population. The analysis of the still existing catalogues of the library indicates that, unlike the publishing activity of the firm, the lending library addressed much more cultured and refined reader, which is manifested by the content of the collection that included many accomplished works written by prominent authors or researchers of the time.
