    Background: Nurses’ professional self and job satisfaction directly affect their professional practices. For this reason, it is important to find out about their perceptions of their professional self, the factors that affect and are affected by the professional self, and nurses’ job satisfaction. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the professional self-concept and job satisfaction of nurses working in psychiatry clinics. Material and Methods: The universe of this descriptive and correlational study was the psychiatric nurses in Turkey and its sample comprised of 103 nurses employed in the psychiatry clinics and polyclinics of university hospitals randomly selected from provinces representing the seven geographical regions in Turkey. The data collection tools used in the study were Information Form, Professional Self Concept Scale and Nursing Job Satisfaction Scale in Nurses. Results: Psychiatric nurses have a high professional self-concept and moderate job satisfaction. There is a statistically significant positive correlation between the professional self-concept and job satisfaction of nurses. Conclusion: Professional self-concepts and job satisfaction of psychiatric nurses are affected by demographic characteristics and these two variables are related to each other.

    Opis:
    Among the predictors of the staff burnout, the temperament and styles of coping with stress are indicated. The superior goal of the presented researches was to examine the degree to which both temperamental traits and specific styles of proceeding in the face of stressful situations are explaining the variability of the results in the area of staff burnout among psychiatric nurses. To accomplish this goal, the studies were carried out, in which 60 women working in psychiatric medical care sector were examined. In experimental project, three methods of psychologic survey were applied, such as 1) the Formal Characteristics of Behaviour – Temperament Inventory (FCB-TI) by J. Strelau and B. Zawadzki (FCZ-KT), 2) the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS) by N.S. Endler and J.D.A. Parker, 3) the Maslach Burnout Inventory – Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS). The statistical analysis carried out allowed the confirmation of predictive role of sensorial sensitivity, task style and emotional style in the staff burnout. In case of avoiding style and other five temperamental traits, there is no reason to consider these variables the predictors of staff burnout. The results of the studies carried out suggests that in the psychological or therapeutic assistance provided to psychiatric nurses: 1) to a greater extent it is needed to concentrate more on strengthening active involvement in solving the occupational problems than on realising the harmfulness of avoiding tendencies in the area of coping, 2) it seems important to shape the ability of aware experiencing the negative emotions revealing in contact with the psychiatric patient.
    Wśród predyktorów wypalenia zawodowego wskazuje się na temperament i style radzenia sobie ze stresem. Nadrzędnym celem prezentowych badań było zbadanie, w jakim stopniu zarówno cechy temperamentalne, jak i konkretne style postępowania w obliczu sytuacji stresowych wyjaśniają zmienność wyników w obszarze wypalenia zawodowego pielęgniarek psychiatrycznych. Dla realizacji tego celu przeprowadzono badania, którymi objęto 60 kobiet pracujących w sektorze psychiatrycznej opieki zdrowotnej. W projekcie badawczym zastosowano trzy metody psychologicznego pomiaru. Należą do nich: 1) Formalna Charakterystyka Zachowania – Kwestionariusz Temperamentu J. Strelaua i B. Zawadzkiego (FCZ-KT), 2) Kwestionariusz Radzenia Sobie w Sytuacjach Stresowych N.S. Endlera i J.D.A. Parkera (CISS), 3) Kwestionariusz Wypalenia Zawodowego C. Maslach (MBI-HSS). Przeprowadzone analizy statystyczne pozwoliły na konfirmację predykcyjnej roli wrażliwości sensorycznej, stylu zadaniowego i stylu emocjonalnego w zakresie wypalenia zawodowego. W przypadku stylu unikowego oraz pozostałych pięciu cech temperamentu nie ma podstaw do uznania tych zmiennych za predyktory wypalenia zawodowego. Rezultaty zrealizowanych badań sugerują, że w pomocy psychologicznej czy terapeutycznej świadczonej pielęgniarkom psychiatrycznym: 1) w większym stopniu należy koncentrować się na wzmacnianiu czynnego angażowania się w rozwiązywanie problemów zawodowych aniżeli na uświadamianiu szkodliwości unikowych tendencji w obszarze radzenia sobie, 2) ważne wydaje się kształtowanie umiejętności świadomego przeżywania emocji negatywnych, ujawniających się w kontakcie z pacjentem psychiatrycznym.
