This article discusses about the usefulness of projection techniques in an interdisciplinary sense. For many years, representatives of various fields have been dealing with the diagnosis, methodology and interpretation of human behavior. Therefore, using projection methods are a situation in which a person assigns individual incentives to any stimulus material. These tests allow to determine its methods of mental functioning, because it depends on what individual has needs, values or desires. The relevance of the projection technique depends on the extent to which the subject is unaware that during the study reveals his own beliefs, impulses and emotions. The results of projection tests should be interpreted by a psychologist with extensive experience in this area, because the lack of sufficient knowledge and competence can lead to errors affecting the results of the examined person.

For the participants of the mission to return home and normal life can be difficult. For this reason, you should emphasize the importance of this aspect of the personal and social support soldiers returning from missions outside the country. First one is focused on whether and who helps in overcoming current problems and meet the needs. In contrast, the present aspect of social support focuses around investigate this, we need people who are disadvantaged are being met and what kind of help they can get. It is highly important psychological and psychiatric assistance granted to the participants of the mission. It is worth noting that the proportion of soldiers participating in missions benefit from this kind of aid and how this aid is assessed. Unfortunately, people who benefit from psychological or psychiatric help are sometimes exposed to stigmatization because of this. To change the misconceptions and stereotypes related to the assistance provided by psychologists and psychiatrists, first you have to know the reasons for this phenomenon. Lots of information on the highlighted topics provide results of social research carried out by the Military Office of Social Research, which is part of the Military Centre for Civic Education. These will be presented in this article.

Opis:
Clinical significance is a crucial element in the diagnosis of mental illness, yet, it is practically untheorised and significantly under-researched. This article takes up the question of how the criterion of clinical significance is translated into psychiatric practice. More particularly, it examines how psychiatrists account for the threshold between health and depression. The paper is anchored in the constructionist view of discourse underpinned by the assumptions of critically oriented discourse analysis. It is based upon a convenience sample of 39 semi-structured interviews with specialistpsychiatrists in south-western Poland. There is no discursive space for clinical significance in psychiatrists’ accounts. There is no boundary, no decision to be taken as to whether the symptoms are clinically significant. Depression, invariably constructed in terms of diagnostic criteria, is always represented as fully developed, appearing out of thin air, with no period of falling ill. The article raises the issue of the validity and usefulness of psychiatric diagnosis.

Opis:
Purpose: To estimate the frequency of aggressive behaviors in health care institutions, and determine their influence on emotional reactions of medical workers. Materials and methods: The study involved 201 health care professionals from the regions of Lower Silesia and Opole in Poland. The authors employed the exposure to patient aggression inventory, based on the questionnaires of Merecz and Nowicka & Kolasa; this inventory divides patient aggression towards medical workers into seven different forms. Results: In over 90% of cases, health care professionals fell victim to patient aggression in a workplace. It mostly took forms of verbal aggression, a raised voice and shouting. A physical attack was reported by 45.6% of the surveyed; it resulted in physical injuries in 27.9% of psychiatric hospital workers and 24.7% of general hospital workers. As a reaction to patients’ verbal aggression, medical workers usually calmly explained that such behavior was improper. Violence and aggressive behaviors of patients evoked workers’ anger, fear, a feeling of resignation and the loss of their sense of safety. In most case's victims of patient aggression either coped with the problem themselves or asked their co-workers and superiors for help. Conclusions: Aggressive behaviors of patients arouse in medical staff, mostly anger. Medical workers usually cope with patient aggression themselves; nurses more often than other health care professionals ask their superiors and co-workers for help. It is necessary to conduct further research into the problem of patient aggression towards medical staff so that actions ensuring safety for workers can be taken.

Background Post-development analysis of medications allows for comprehensive understanding of the safety profile over extended periods, and can direct future improvements to enhance the therapeutic benefits while minimizing risks. Our primary goal was to examine whether a substantial relationship exists between such patient experiences and the statistical analysis of data about the same medications from clinical trials. Material and methods Patient feedback regarding medication commonly prescribed for psychiatric conditions was obtained from a publicly available website webmd.com. We searched clinicaltrials.gov for statistical analysis regarding the same medications. Data from webmd.com was subjected to sentiment analysis, while ClinicalTrials data underwent statistical analysis. Results The findings suggest a general connection between the two data sources. Medications with a greater amount of patient feedback generally attract more research attention, although with some exceptions. Additionally, medications approved for children receive less feedback online compared to those for adults and seniors. Medications for seniors receive more positive and neutral feedback in contrast to those for children and adults. Conclusions Online platforms offer a space for patients to share their experiences with using specific medications, potentially contributing to the enhancement of patient care and aiding researchers in further studies.

Was tun mit arbeitsunfähigen Zwangsarbeitern?
What to do with incapacitated forced laborers in Nazi Germany? The solutions ranged from care by factory, camp or resident doctors, through hospitals, and special foreign hospitals to deportation “to their home country,” although it was uncertain whether they would ever get home. The methods of dealing with them deteriorated throughout the course of the war. By 1944 at the latest, “mentally ill Eastern workers and Poles” were to be admitted to sanatoriums and nursing homes, where their future fate was to be decided. This was partly used as license for murdering tuberculous-infected foreigners. The Pfafferode asylum in today's Thuringia was from September 1944 a “collection point” for the states of Thuringia and the provinces of Saxony and Anhalt. This example shows how Eastern European forced laborers were also victims of murder. Detailed statements by the staff attest to the handling of patients on wards 17 and 18, personally supervised by Director Theodor Steinmeyer, where a striking number of patients died.

The paper analyzes, on the basis of Ryle’s concepts of knowledge that and knowledge how, both objectified (verbalized, justified and verified) forms of expert knowledge and the performative (procedural, interactional) nature of expertise. Both theoretical and practical aspects of the identified categories are studied from historical and social (institutional) perspectives as phenomena characteristic of post-modern information society. In virtue of the selected social examples an epistemological model of performative expert knowledge and expertise is constructed in which crucial elements are distinguished: experts’ cognitive attitudes and dispositions, intellectual skills, intuition and mistakes as well as types of interactional versus contributory expertise. Also considered are the epistemological consequences derived from the research concerning expertise in psychiatric treatment where both expert knowledge and expertise fall into line with institutional requirements (medical or juridical) as well as procedures (correspondence with facts and/or other procedures).

Homelessness is an urgent problem for any civilised society. It becomes the subject of examination of several fields of science such as social work, medicine, nursing, public health, law, sociology, psychology, theology, ethics, economy, environment and so on. In the paper, the authors analyze individual types of homelessness and social and health forms of assistance. They pay attention to the causes of homelessness, they describe the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms and the related right to treatment, the right to social services. In the Czech Republic, they approximate the importance, objectives and tasks of the association of asylum houses and dormitories, similarly indicating the situation in the Slovak Republic. They pay particular attention to health risks in the homeless community (mental disorders, infectious diseases, viral hepatitis, HIV/AIDS) and access to healthcare for the homeless.

This paper discusses major issues related to the application of coercive measures in psychiatric hospitals. The situations are presented when a physician is authorized to initiate compulsory medical procedure against persons posing threat for their own life or health, their immediate surroundings or common security - against their own will. Provisions of the Mental Health Act regarding the application of direct coercive measures within the limits of necessity are vital guarantee of respecting the rights and freedoms of an individual.

Without any doubt, one of the most important roles of the immune system is protection against various pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites. Currently, it is well known that any changes in its activity lead to an increase in the frequency of infectious diseases. There are some data available, suggesting that in patients with psychiatric disorders, such as depressive disorder, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, immune system reactivity is modified. In this review, the activity of some innate immunity elements, such as the number and the cytotoxic activity of NK cells, the activity of the complement system, the number of neutrophils, the activity of monocytes/macrophages, the concentration of reactive oxygen species and reactive nitric species, the concentration of acute phase proteins (e.g. C-reactive proteins, mannose-binding lectin) in patients with mental disorders is presented. Also, cytokine and chemokine concentrations (IL-1β, IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IP-10, MCP-1, TNF, IFN-γ) in patients with psychiatric disorders are discussed. Finally, the alterations in adaptive immunity response, including B cell and T cell subpopulation number, and immunoglobulin levels (IgG, IgM, IgA, IgE) are demonstrated. It should be stressed, however, that data concerning the immune system reactivity in patients with different mental disorders are still scarce and ambiguous. Further studies are needed, therefore, to fully explain the relationship between psychiatric disorders and immune system functioning.
W pracy przedstawiono informacje dotyczące wybranych elementów odporności nabytej – liczebności i cytotoksyczności komórek NK, aktywności układu dopełniacza, liczebności neutrofilów, aktywności monocytów/makrofagów, stężenia reaktywnych form tlenu, reaktywnych form azotu i białek ostrej fazy (białka C-reaktywnego, lektyny wiążącej mannozę) – u pacjentów z zaburzeniami psychicznymi.

Objectives: Data on the prevalence of chronic diseases and their relationship with sickness absence in the Italian public employees are rather scarce. Therefore, in the first place, we assessed the distribution of chronic diseases in the employees of the University of Ferrara. As a next step, we investigated the possible associations between each chronic disease and cumulative days of all-cause sickness absence, and finally we investigated the odds ratio of each single chronic disease on sickness absence. Material and Methods: A total of 514 employees, 269 sick-listed and 245 not sick-listed in 2012, were studied. Demographical/clinical characteristics and chronic diseases were obtained from all study participants during medical surveillance procedures. Sickness absence days and job seniority data were obtained from the administrative office. Results: Gastrointestinal and psychiatric diseases were the most reported in the sick-listed sample (p = 0.01 and p = 0.02, respectively, compared to the not sick-listed). In the interquantile regression analysis, the sickness absence days were as - sociated with psychiatric diseases (β = 65.1, 95% CI: 13.2-117.1, p = 0.01) and with the presence of 2 or more chronic diseases (β = 23.3, 95% CI: 4.5-42, p = 0.02). Furthermore, the logistic regression analysis showed that the odds of sickness absence were increased 2 fold by psychiatric diseases (OR = 2.2, 95% CI: 1.01-4.93, p = 0.04), and gastrointestinal diseases (OR = 1.9, 95% CI:1.07-3.42, p = 0.02) and, to a lesser extent, by high body mass index (OR = 1.05, 95% CI: 1-1.11, p = 0.03). Conversely, female gender reduced by half the odds of sickness absence (OR = 0.5, 95% CI: 0.3-0.8, p = 0.04). Conclusions: This study highlights the relevant association between chronic diseases and sickness absence in Italian public employees. Our findings indicate the importance of considering the health status when designing preventive interventions aimed at decreasing sickness absences in this population.

This paper focuses on the letters (starting in 1907) that Maria Komornicka addressed to her mother, written from the psychiatric and mental institutions where she was confined. Notably, in these writings the first-person voice is a male subject. The important experience which this epistolary reflects is the rejection of the mental illness as a social construction which can define the author’s identity. The present article examines the narrative self, self-modalities and identity, and how the author writes the self to refuse and fight against the imposed, attributed disease. Among the key themes which will be explored are: an epistolary record documenting the conditions and contexts of the author’s opposition to clinical isolation, misunderstanding and uncertainty as essential components of anti-diagnostic discourse, linguistic strategies to invalidate the practices of exclusion and medicalization, and creativity and healing through letter-writing.
