Opis:
The fade-out sound effect designates a strict decreasing of the volume of an audio signal, starting from the detected initial level down to silence. Audio fade-outs are usually processed in off-line mode that is within audio editors, by employing different transcendental functions to set the time-related evolution of the audio level. However, the proliferation of mobile devices as well as the increasing popularity of web applications, implemented in HTML5/JavaScript, press for computing techniques suitable for real-time processing. In this context, having in view that the computation of the outputs of transcendental functions is very time-consuming, in order to construct the audio fade-out profile, a technique suitable for real-time computing is developed in the present investigation. The suggested techni-que is validated by means of an implementation in pure JavaScript, put forward with the purpose of immediate testing.

Opis:
The phenomenon of echo in the telecommunications channels is caused by the reflection of an electrical signal in a long line. In order to improve the quality of the transmitted sound, various adaptive filters are used to remove or at least reduce the level of the reflected delayed signal. However, such a process may result in a degradation in the quality of speech, although its intelligibility may not get worse. The work presents the results of subjective studies on assessing the quality of speech signals under the process of acoustic echo cancellation using different algorithms. The algorithms studied were: LMS (Least Mean Squares), NLMS (Normalized Least Mean Squares) and AP (Affine Projection). The study consisted of assessing the signal quality after applying the echo elimination process using the Degradation Category Rating method. A total of 312 signals were used in the test: 192 male speech and 120 female speech samples. Echo simulation was used using different delay times and levels of echo signal. Both types of speech have signal delay times of 20 ms, 50 ms, 100 ms and 200 ms with echo level values of -6 dB, -12 dB, -18 dB and -24 dB. In addition, for female speech signals, a delay time of 150 ms was introduced. The study involved 14 people aged between 18 and 38, including six women and eight men. All subjects had normal good hearing. Seven listeners had participated in subjective listening tests of the sound quality assessment previously. The listeners’ opinions were collected on prepared questionnaire. It was found that the highest ratings were given to the AP filter, while the worst ratings were featured the NLMS. It should also be noted that the range between the results obtained for AP and NLMS for female speech is smaller in comparison to male. It is also interesting that the discrepancy in ratings was greatest for a delay time of 100 ms for the AP filter and 200 ms for the LMS filter. It can therefore be concluded from the obtained results that, in the case of acoustic echo cancelation, AP filter introduced the lowest quality degradation while the LMS achieved slightly worse average ratings when compared to the AP filter . The NLMS filter characterized by the worst ratings, and in some cases received twice the quality degradation compared to the AP filter.

Opis:
Audio fading is performed in order to smoothly modify over time the level of an audio signal. In particular, the fade-in audio effect designates a gradually increase in the audio volume, starting from silence. In practice, audio fading is mostly carried out within audio editors i.e. in off-line mode by employing various transcendental functions to enforce the fade profile. Taking into account the increasing demand for interactive media services requiring real-time audio processing, the present approach advances an effective method of constructing the audio fade-in shape with a view to real-time computing. The paper encompasses plain and straightforward implementations in pure JavaScript, prepared precisely to validate the method of audio volume processing proposed here.

The Tomatis Method is a rehabilitation technique used in psychology, the main aim of which is stimulating the cochlea in the inner ear by filtered air-conducted and bone-conducted sounds. The system of electronic filters and amplifiers used for this therapy is called the Electronic Ear. Commonly, it is a commercial analog device that is expensive and after a few years its functionality declines. In this paper, we propose a digital Electronic Ear system using an STM32F4 family micro-controller and ADC/ DAC integrated circuits. The design of the digital sound filters allows to adjust more parameters and overcomes some of the constraints of analog systems. In this paper, we provide a short review of the Tomatis Method, the main functions of the Electronic Ear and we describe the designed system with comparison measurements to the analog original.

The auscultation technique has been widely used in medicine as a screening examination for ages. Nowadays, advanced electronics and effective computational methods aim to support the healthcare sector by providing dedicated solutions which help physicians and support diagnostic process. In this paper, we propose a machine learning approach for the analysis of heart sounds. We used the spectral analysis of acoustic signal to calculate feature vectors and tested a set of machine learning approaches to provide the most effective detection of cardiac disorders. Finally, we achieved 91% of sensitivity and 99% of positive predictivity for a designed algorithm based on convolutional neural network.

Opis:
In the paper, a noise map service designated for the user interested in environmental noise is presented. Noise prediction algorithm and source model, developed for creating acoustic maps, are working in the cloud computing environment. In the study, issues related to the noise modelling of sound propagation in urban spaces are discussed with a particular focus on traffic noise. Examples of results obtained through a web application created for that purpose are shown. In addition, these are compared to results obtained from the commercial software simulations based on two road noise prediction models. Moreover, the computing performance of the developed application is investigated and analyzed. In the paper, a flowchart simulating the operation of the noise web-based service is presented showing that the created application is easy to use even for people with little experience in computer technology.
