    Proces kształcenia przyszłych architektów wnętrz w Wyższej Szkole Technicznej w Katowicach na kierunku Architektura Wnętrz oparty jest na tematach projektowych, które są realizowane w ramach współpracy naukowo-badawczej z podmiotami zewnętrznymi. W artykule zaprezentowano przykład współpracy pomiędzy Urzędem Miasta Łaziska Górne, a Pracownią Projektową przy współpracy studentek w ramach Ogólnopolskiego Konkursu pt. „Współczesna modernizacja wnętrz powiatowej i miejskiej biblioteki w Łaziskach Górnych”. Rozwiązanie projektowe dotyczyło opracowania wnętrz 5 kondygnacji budynku wraz z systemem komunikacji wizualnej. Wstępnie założono, że objęta projektem przestrzeń ma poprawić elastyczność przestrzeni, zgodnie z założeniami brytyjskiego architekta Harry Faulkner – Browna, twórcy kilkunastu budynków bibliotek. Współpraca zaowocowała przyznaniem III miejsca w konkursie dla zespołu projektowego w 2017 roku.
    The process of education of future architects at the Faculty of Interior Design at the University of Technology, Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Applied Arts is based on real-life design projects. The article presents an example of the collaboration between the Łaziska Górne City Hall and the Design Studio represented by Kinga Palus in cooperation with students as part of the National Competition entitled „Contemporary modernization of the interiors of the district and city library in Łaziska Górne”. The design solution concerned the interior design of the 5-storey building with a visual communication system. It was initially assumed that the space covered by the project is to improve the flexibility of the space in accordance with the assumptions of the British architect Harry Faulkner – Brown’s, the creator of several library buildings. The cooperation resulted in the award of the third place in the competition for the design team in 2017.

    Opis:
    Artykuł omawia budownictwo biblioteczne pod kątem analizy formy i znaczenia budynków w fizycznej przestrzeni miasta i kampusów uniwersyteckich. Przywołano przykłady bibliotek uniwersyteckich w Charlottesville i w Wiedniu oraz biblioteki miejskiej w Sztokholmie. Omówiono zagadnienie widoczności bibliotek w fizycznej przestrzeni miejskiej oraz sposób wzajemnego oddziaływania na siebie tkanki miejskiej i gmachów bibliotecznych. Wskazano tradycyjne i nowoczesne role bibliotek, a także jak część przestrzeni publicznej realizuje się wewnątrz bibliotek.

    Opis:
    Contemporary libraries of the twenty-first century are characterized by a marked fluctuation of roles and functions commonly ascribed to them. Librarians are expected to be capable of anticipating them and addressing them appropriately in order to satisfy the requirements set up by users. This article is an attempt to discuss the most important changes that have hitherto been done and to indicate those areas of the activity of research, academic, public and, to a lesser degree, school libraries in which those changes will be particularly pronounced. Anticipated roles and tasks within the management and access to resources, building up own electronic resources and their processing, library space, embarking on tasks hitherto not regarded as strictly ''library" tasks as well as the most important changes in the author's view such as those to be introduced in user services, in-service trainings, education and propagation of knowledge are discussed in the article. The author believes that the new functions, on par with those already existing, should be subjected to actual users, but also to potential ones, even deeper than before. This should effect in creating the library environment as a ''meeting place", some kind of a social space to perform entirely new functions superimposed onto traditional ones in the library information. The new functions will include performing new cultural, educational, social, artistic and communal tasks carried out with a co-operation with other libraries, scientific, educational and cultural instructions. Additionally, the problem of changes in work force management, so vital in the supposed and anticipated transformation of the library and its functions, is evaluated and discussed.

    Opis:
    Around the world, creative exponents of various disciplines (artists, architects, designers), social activists and members of local communities have challenged stereotypes in thinking and acting, by proposing and implementing experimental ideas of alternative libraries in place of traditional ones closed inside a building or contemporary, open and modernised libraries. In their concepts and artistic executions (installations, actions), they have referred to various traditions of public art. Untypical locations of the libraries within natural scenery, on beaches, in parks, etc. and in public and social spaces of modern cities have redefined the notion of a library, changed its form and content, and given it a new meaning and function. Alternative libraries have specific i.e. artistic, educational, social, ecological or intervention programmes, their main idea being the openness to new experiences and to people.They also follow certain rules: they operate by action and interaction, based on the process of interchange, they are self-service, free-of-charge libraries. Shelves of books, freed from the walls of buildings, or various artistic small architecture projects which serve the idea of borrowing and reading books in publicly accessible places, have transformed those places into intellectually inspiring areas. Selected alternative library models have been analysed with regard to the following interpretive factors: A library in natural space, Libraries on beaches, An open public library as an example of radical democracy, A library as ‘a sculpture of knowledge’, Street libraries (the idea and practice of bookcrossing, small free libraries), A library as an object of modern art.

    Jednym z głównych zadań biblioteki akademickiej jest nieustanne wspieranie jej użytkowników w procesie naukowo-dydaktycznym. W artykule przedstawiono zmieniające się potrzeby i oczekiwania użytkowników Biblioteki Głównej Uniwersytetu Przyrodniczego w Lublinie, a także ofertę szkoleniową skierowaną do studentów tejże uczelni. Analizie poddano wyniki badania ankietowego określającego poziom satysfakcji użytkowników, przeprowadzonego w semestrze letnim w roku akademickim 2021/2022. 
    One of the main tasks of an academic library is to continuously support its users in the scientific and didactic process. The article presents the changing needs and expectations of the users of the main Library of the University of Life sciences in Lublin, as well as the training offer aimed at the students of this University. The results of a survey determining user satisfaction levels conducted in the summer semester of the 2021/2022 academic year are analyzed.

    Opis:
    The article presents the Library of Vilnius University, one of the oldest and most modern libraries in Europe. Its modernity is reflected in the types of services, the organization of the library space and work. The library’s policy is based on the philosophy associated with the mission of Vilnius University. It implies creating an attractive environment, supporting the search for information, study, research and cultural education. The main task of the Library is, therefore, to support and develop scientific communication. A large emphasis is placed on the services for the university environment, both for students and academic staff. Information technologies are used at a high level, and the use of digital materials now exceeds the use of traditional ones. The thing that draws attention is the organizational structure of the library based on tasks and services offered to users. The library is characterized by the rational use of staff and collections while meeting the needs of users to the maximum. It is focused on self-service: a large part of the collection is easily accessible, there is also a self-service store room of course books. The library houses space for individual and collective work, computer laboratories, seminar and conference rooms. While organizing the library space, the following important issues were taken into account: relaxation and easier interpersonal contacts; and therefore there are a number of zones of a quiet or loud rest. Part of the library is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, the library provides consulting services through subject specialists and departments which deal with scientific information and communication. The library has also developed a system of internal and external communication. The modernity of the library is reflected not so much in the use of the latest technology, but in modern management methods in all aspects of its operation.
