    In the article we analyze proper nouns occurring in Evgeny Schwartz’s Дракон. A very important aspect which should be considered in the play’s translation is its intertextuality. The author refers to other works by taking over the characters and introducing the prototype text components. We will look over the only Polish translation of Jerzy Pomianowski (1965) and three English translations of Elisaveta Fen (1975), Yuri Machkasov (2001) and Anna Epelbaum (2013).

    Opis:
    The author presents a semantic and structural analysis of several puzzling toponymies from the south-east Lublin region. They are the following names of villages: Teniatyska, Podrusów, and parts of villages and hamlets: Sikliwce, Rebizanty, Koszele. Probabilistic research, studies on their history and settlement, a reconstruction of the starting forms of toponymies have made the author to arrive at the following conclusions: Teniatyska is a cultural name connected with the Ukrainian appelative teneta. Primarily, it most probably defined a place where traps or nets were laid. It cannot be excluded that such a place was a water mill of which mention has been made in the notes. Another interpretation allows for the starting form Teniatyn. Then the personal name would be included in the toponym Teniata (Pol. Tenięta). A change in the from of the toponym Teniatyn > Teniatyszcze would be linked with the establishment of a new settlement in place of the deserted one, once inhabited. Podrusów refers to the topographic or water name Rusiec, one that is analogous to the names of the proximate settlements, cf. Susiec. Sikliwce is an ethnic name, most probably primarily referring to a water environment - a near-by stream. With, the name would change its category from the category of ethnic names to the family ones. The process of anthroponimization had taken place in another local name of that area - i.e. Rebiznaty, primarily, Koszele is a typical family name from the personal name Koszel, and the latter is derived from kosz (basket), “a vessel woven from straw and straw.”

    Wielu badaczy wskazuje transfer nazw własnych jako jedną z trudności przekładu. Niniejsza praca dotyczy translacji imion w dwudziestu jeden przekładach baśni Rumpelstilzchen spod pióra braci Grimm. Analizie zostały poddane angielskie, brazylijskie, polskie, tureckie oraz japońskie wydania baśni napisanej pierwotnie w języku niemieckim. Praca skupia się na analizie prawdziwego imienia tytułowego skrzata oraz imion wymienianych przez baśniową królową. Artykuł zawiera pięć analiz opisujących onomastyczne aspekty przekładu oraz zastosowane techniki tłumaczeniowe. Wyniki wskazują na to, że podejście tłumaczy do przekładu imion było różnorodne na przestrzeni lat oraz wydań. Najczęściej wykorzystywanymi technikami były zamiana oraz transkrypcja, a ich bogactwo jest szczególnie widoczne w podejściu do przekładu powszechnych imion, np. Cunz i Heinz.

    Opis:
    A proper noun as a nomination, identification, delimination and sociopragmatic unit acquires a specific mandate in media communication. Within this communication, proper nouns operate as a vehicle contributing to a reduction of verbal proxemics among a media product, mediator and the audience, which is created through colloquialization procedures. The reduction of proxemics is generally reflected in the media structures that are not based on visual code, considering the genetictypological aspect. From this field a proper noun transits to print in a broader concept, which is not infrequently supported by teletechnologies. In media communication, and also in the segment of serious (non-tabloid) print, we can thus observe reinforcing tendencies of spontaneity, non-officiality, familiarity, joviality, tendencies, (self-)presentation, manipulation and persuasion. All of these tendencies have not occurred in this type of print until recently, or they have been represented only in trace amounts. The aim of this paper is to synergistically outline the sources, manifestations and consequences of the activation of colloquialization of proper nouns in “the media landscape.”

    In the article a linguistic analysis has been presented of 307 names, most of them connected with settlements (14 hamlet and over 250 so-called ‘dworzyska’ – farmsteads), and a few dozen ones connected with physiographic objects (rivers, swamps, hills) or with cultural objects (Orthodox churches, inns) from the area of one big village, Kamionka Wołoska, situated near Rawa Ruska. The work is based on the 19th and 20th century Polish materials. The colonial-ethnical past of the studied place – that perhaps goes back to the old-Russian times, or to the 15th-century stage of the Wallachian colonization – determines the fact that the studied names to a high degree – 44% – were formed under the influence of the Ukrainian language. Its features can be seen on the phonetic (Biłuki, Chołody, Hnilce, Hobryny, Struki), morphological (Berezowce, Chocije, Hryńczuki, Panejki) and lexical (Bodnary, Majdan, Popowicze) levels. Names that are genetically Polish constitute about 10%. The others are forms that are neutral, without distinct Polish or Ukrainian features. These proportions cannot be directly transposed to the linguistic-ethnical relations recorded for the 19th century, when eg. in 1881 in Kamionka 6994 Greek Catholics and only 78 Catholics lived. The overstated numbers for the genetically Polish names can be explained, on the one hand, by the fact that the forms reflect the influence of Polish on Ukrainian not in the local, but supra-local scale, and on the other hand, they may testify to the historical presence of a greater number of Poles on this area, who were later Ruthenized. Apart from these historical-colonial conclusions the study presents the picture of onomastics that informs one about the place’s physiographic and civilization properties and about the semantic-morphotactic patterns of the local names (and indirectly also about the personal ones hidden first of all in the names of family farmsteads) in both the Polish and Ukrainian languages.

    The article presents the process of using the author’s and his associates’ experiences on the works of the academic Grammar of contemporary Polish language in creating inflexive Polish language dictionaries from a small book publishing in 1993 to a great dictionary designed and published in digital form in 2001. It reports the stages of narrowing the classification and description of the Polish inflexion categories in a way that makes it a basis to shape it into a computer program by the IT specialists from the AGH University of Science and Technology cooperating with the linguists; furthermore, it provides a sample of studies on expanding the dictionary with a multi-segment lexical units, meaning Polish idioms.

    Opis:
    The article draws attention to those aspects of language which show the individual nature of the Bible of Jakub Wujek and The Bible of Gdańsk. These bibles are actually two different works of this translation, with different confessional affiliations. Moreover, the article represents an attempt to analyze and classify the few places of parallel text in which the lexical differences are present. At the beginning, the author looks for these differences in the proper nouns which determine the names of God in the Old Testament, and in the names which characterize Jesus. The selected biblical place names are analyzed in the last part of the article. The research material was taken from the texts of the first editions of the Bible of Jakub Wujek and The Bible of Gdańsk.
