Opis:
Carpet weavers suffer from musculoskeletal problems mainly attributed to poor working postures. Their posture is mostly constrained by the design of workstations. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of 2 design parameters (weaving height and seat type) on postural variables and subjective experience, and to develop guidelines for workstation adjustments. At an experimental workstation, 30 professional weavers worked in 9 different conditions. Working posture and weavers’ perceptions were measured. It was shown that head, neck and shoulder postures were influenced by weaving height. Both design parameters influenced trunk and elbows postures. The determinant factor for weavers’ perception on the neck, shoulders and elbows was found to be weaving height, and on the back and knees it was seat type. Based on the results, the following guidelines were developed: (a) weaving height should be adjusted to 20 cm above elbow height; (b) a 10º forward-sloping high seat is to be used at weaving workstations.

Budowa potencjalnie bezpiecznej infrastruktury drogowej warunkowana jest w dużym stopniu właściwą implementacją ogólnych wymagań bezpieczeństwa ruchu w szczegółowych zapisach przepisów techniczno-budowlanych, a także umiejętnym wykorzystywaniem tych zapisów w praktyce przez projektantów. W artykule przeanalizowano typowe błędy występujące na polskich drogach oraz wskazano możliwości eliminacji tych błędów poprzez zmiany istniejących przepisów; sformułowano także ogólne zalecenia dotyczące tych zmian.
Construction of a potentially safe road infrastructure is strongly determined by an appropriate implementation of overall traffic safety requirements in detailed technical and construction regulations, as well as skilful application of these regulations in practice by the designers. Therefore this paper contains analysis of typical errors occurring in Polish roads and it attempts at identifying possibilities to eliminate these faults through changes in the current regulations. General guidelines for these changes have also been formulated.

Opis:
This study focuses on the development of an interface for gesture control and Boolean operation of 3D objects in 3D computer-aided design (CAD). Although mouse and keyboard have been mainly used as computer input devices, novel computer interfaces are becoming increasingly popular with rapid development of computer technologies. Among several computer interfaces, the gesture interface is well-known as an system operable through the natural human behavior. However, the application to 3D CAD has been scarcely studied so far. From the backgrounds, a simple gesture interface was developed to operate a 3D object in 3D CAD. Leap Motion Controller (LMC) was used as a motion sensor device. A dialog-based graphical user interface (GUI) was also created for the parameter setting. As a result, several operational functions could be successfully executed through various hand-finger motions. Moreover, the system enabled us to experience an intuitive interaction with 3D CAD. Then, the several demonstrations were performed to identify the recognition characteristics of the gesture interface. The differences in the recognition rate were revealed as the results. Especially, it confirmed that a combination of static and dynamic gestures could help to enhance the recognition rate in the gesture interface using LMC. In accordance with the findings, the functions for Boolean operation were also implemented for the manipulation of a 3D object, such as extrusion and hole making.

The Ministry of Infrastructure has launched work on changing the technical conditions to be met by roads and road design standards. As part of the set of standards, new “Guidelines for the design of pedestrian infrastructure” have been also developed. The second part of this project is “Guidelines for designing pedestrian line infrastructure”. The article presents the identification of problems in designing pedestrian infrastructure in Poland and an overview of the measures to solve these problems in other countries. The principles of designing a pedestrian line infrastructure are also discussed in the article.

Wzrost ruchliwości mieszkańców miast połączony z nieograniczonym dostępem do samochodów powoduje wzrost zatłoczenia ulic. Taki stan rzeczy wiąże się ze wzrostem strat czasu użytkowników, wydłużaniem się godzin szczytów komunikacyjnych, wzrostem zanieczyszczenia powietrza oraz degradowaniem przestrzeni miejskiej. Postępowanie zgodnie z ideą zrównoważonej mobilności wymaga zmiany modelu podziału zadań przewozowych i dalszego zwiększania znaczenia roweru jako środka transportu wykorzystywanego w codziennych podróżach. Warunkiem jest jednak zwiększenie jego konkurencyjności w stosunku do innych środków transportu, co wymaga zapewnienia odpowiedniej infrastruktury, gwarantującej rowerzystom warunki do sprawnego, komfortowego, ale przede wszystkim bezpiecznego przemieszczania się. Rozwój ruchu rowerowego wymaga inwestycji nie tylko w infrastrukturę transportową i nowe trasy, ale też w przebudowę i rozbudowę pod tym kątem dróg i ulic. Artykuł przedstawia proponowane kierunki zmian przepisów projektowania dróg i infrastruktury przeznaczonej do ruchu rowerów. Odnosi się do takich zagadnień jak: kształtowanie tras dla rowerów w planie i profilu drogi, skrajnia, projektowanie łuków w planie, widoczność na przejazdach dla rowerzystów przez jezdnie, torowiska tramwajowe i tory kolejowe, urządzenia i wyposażenie infrastruktury związanej z ruchem rowerów.
The increase of urban mobility combined with unrestricted access to car increases congestion of the road network. This cause an increase in time losses, mainly in peak hours, air pollution and the degradation of urban space. Following the idea of sustainable mobility requires change of the modal split and further increasing of the importance of the bicycle as a mean of transport for everyday travel. However, it requires the provision of adequate infrastructure, ensuring that cyclists can move smoothly, comfortably, and above all safely. The development of cycling demands investment not only in transport infrastructure and new routes, but also in the reconstruction and extension of roads and streets based on national design regulations. The article sets out the direction of the amendments proposed in the new rules on road design, from the point of view of infrastructure for bicycle traffic. This applies among others to: plan and profile of bicycle routes, bicycle traffic gauge, horizontal curves, visibility at road, tram and railway crossings, safe equipment of the infrastructure related to the bicycle traffic.

Celem tej pracy jest analiza obciążeń nawierzchni drogowych ruchem oraz jego prognozy, głównie w aspekcie projektowania przebudowy dróg lub wzmacniania nawierzchni. W obecnej chwili metoda modelowa jest metodą, która daje największe możliwości prognozowania ruchu pojazdów. Przygotowanie cyfrowego modelu sieci drogowej oraz ruchu pojazdów, który na niej się odbywa pozwala na wyeliminowanie wielu wad dotychczasowych metod prognozowania. Dla dokładnego prognozowania ruchu pojazdów ciężkich metodą modelową niezbędne jest zbudowanie jak najlepszej bazy wiedzy o ruchu występującym na istniejącej sieci drogowej w szczególności w oparciu o jak największą liczbę punktów umożliwiających zarówno klasyfikację jak i preselekcję wagową klasy np. WIM-P.
The purpose of this paper is the analysis of traffic load on road pavement and it forecasting, in aspect of designing the reconstruction of roads and pavement strengthening. At present modeling method is a method that offers highest level of traffic load forecasting. Preparation of the digital model of road network and traffic load, which take place on it, allows to eliminate many drawbacks of existing methods of forecasting. For accurate predictions of heavy vehicles by model it is necessary to build the best possible knowledge base of traffic load which is present on the existing road network in particularly based on the largest number of measure spots to both classification and pre-selection of weight classes such as WIM-P.

In European Union programs regarding environment protection it was repeatedly stressed that the best policy against the natural environment is prevention or simply avoiding its degradation instead of later fights with a negative influence on it. In 1990 it was materialized in the act about valuation of the influence on the environment (so called UVPG). This guideline is diversely interpreted and exerted in various EU membership countries. The case study presents a German example of introducing it into life. In Germany, in land use planning as well as during design of communication routes the conventional technical project expands to new assignments, so called "commentaries to the project from the point of view of landscape protection". While designing more than regional routes such case studies constitute an integral part of the technical project and, what is connected with it, they come into binding force and are elements of documentation which the Investor is obliged to effectuate while formulating and validating the investment. Those assignments have been creating quite a new area of operation for landscape architects. On account of their qualifications and education ranging to ecological, planning, urban and architectonic aspects they can carry out case studies in a complex way, valuate interactions of protected goods, turn in architectonic and technological solutions with help of which it is possible to avoid or weaken the negative influence on the environment. In the process of education of landscape architects it is essential in future to pay special attention to putting stress on knowledge from the domains of ecology, landscape planning, urbanity and various industry coordination as well as on classical assignments for this professional group.

Opis:
Carpet weaving is a high risk occupation for developing musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). The objectives of the present study, which was carried out in the Iranian hand-woven carpet industry, were determination of the prevalence of MSD symptoms, identification of major factors associated with MSD symptoms and development of guidelines for workstation design. 1,439 randomly selected weavers participated in this study. A questionnaire was used to collect data on MSD symptoms. The results revealed that the prevalence rates for symptoms in different body regions were high as compared to the general Iranian population (for neck, back and large joints, p < .0001). The results of multivariate analyses showed that major ergonomic factors associated with musculoskeletal symptoms were loom type, working posture, daily working time and seat type. Based on the results, some general guidelines for designing weaving workstations were developed. A prototype test showed that the new workstation was acceptable for subject tests and that it improved working posture.

Praca dotyczy problemu projektowania i badania systemów MS-WIM (Multi-Sensor Weigh in Motion), które pozwalają ważyć poruszające się pojazdu samochodowe, bez nakładania istotnych ograniczeń na ich prędkość. Głównym etapem procesu projektowania jest modelowanie podstawowych elementów takiego systemu i badania symulacyjne prowadzone na tych modelach. W pracy przedstawiono modele wieloczujnikowego stanowiska ważącego, nawierzchni drogi, zawieszenia mechanicznego ważonego pojazdu oraz modele algorytmów estymacji nacisków statycznych oraz masy całkowitej pojazdu. Przedstawione modele zostały zweryfikowane poprzez porównanie wyników rozważań analitycznych prowadzonych przy przyjętych założeniach upraszczających z wynikami badań symulacyjnych przeprowadzonych na tych modelach. Celem projektowania systemu MS-WIM jest znalezienie takich wartości parametrów wymienionych elementów systemu, które pozwolą ograniczyć niepewność wyniku ważenia do poziomu 2%, bez specjalnego ograniczania prędkości pojazdu. Uzyskane wyniki pokazują, że ten cel może zostać osiągnięty w systemie ważącym wyposażonym w co najmniej 16 linii czujników nacisku.
The paper addresses the problem of design of the Multi-Sensor Weigh in Motion (MS-WIM) systems, which allow weighing the moving vehicles without serious limitation of their velocity. The main stage of the system design is its modeling and simulation tests. The simulation tests are conducted on the models describing the main elements of the MS-WIM system which are as follows: - model of multi-sensor WIM site, model of road surface, model of weighed vehicle suspension and model of data processing algorithm. The mathematical models of all elements are presented in the paper. The presented models were validated by comparing the results of analytical analysis conducted for assumed simplification to the simulation results obtained for the models. The aim of the system which allow limiting the weighing uncertainty to the level of 2%, without serious limiting of the vehicles velocity. The obtained results show, that this aim could be reached using MS-WIM system equipped with at least 16 load sensors.

Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia zasady i cele projektu Kinetyczna morfogeneza starającego się opisać ruch człowieka poprzez interaktywny system przechwytywania ruchu i tworzonej generatywnie geometrii na podstawie rzeczywistego kontekstu przestrzennego. Artykuł opisuje proces opracowania wytycznych dotyczących aplikacji, prezentuje efekty działania pierwszego prototypu, a także wskazuje kierunki dalszych prac badawczych. Celem opracowania jest odnalezienie i opisanie piękna form biologicznych powstających w oparciu o ruch człowieka. Najważniejszym aspektem badań jest czysta eksploracja formy oraz zacierającej się granicy między realnym, materialnym światem a przestrzenią wirtualną. Głównym zakładanym rezultatem projektu jest znalezienie różnorodnych możliwości generatywnej wizualizacji procesów w czasie rzeczywistym poprzez narzędzia interaktywne. Przeprowadzone badania oraz analiza rezultatów doprowadziła do lepszego zrozumienia relacji przestrzennych między ludzkim ciałem a rzeczywistym/wirtualnym kontekstem przestrzennym i odnalezienia nowych możliwości interakcji między środowiskiem generatywnym (proces cyfrowy, w którym obiekt generatywny ma szansę zaistnieć; stanowi zbiór zasad, skryptów, algorytmów określonych przez projektanta; zawiera w sobie również moduł ewaluacji, pozwalający oceniać wartość estetyczną danego obiektu generatywnego przez projektanta) a kontekstem fizycznym.
The article outlines the principles and goals of the research project Kinetic morphogenesis trying to describe human movement through interactive motion capture and generative geometry based on real spatial context. In addition, the article describes the process of design guidelines development, demonstrates the effects of the first prototype, and outlines the direction of further research related to the project. The aim is to find the beauty in biological forms which arise based on human movement. The research here is about pure form finding and blurring the boundary between real, material world and virtual space. The main assumed outcome is the exploration of various possibilities of generative process visualization in real time through an interactive tool. Additional findings resulted in better understanding of spatial relations between the human body and real (or virtual) spatial context. In addition, exploration of new possibilities of interaction between generative environment (a digital process in which the generative object has a chance to occur; is a set of rules, scripts or algorithms specified by the designer. It also has a module of evaluation which allows assessing the aesthetic value of the generative object) and real context.

Badania zostały przeprowadzone w ramach 15. sesji międzynarodowych warsztatów International Baikal Winter University of Urban Planning 2014 i bazują na autentycznym kontekście urbanistycznym Irkucka (luty 2014). Celem pracy jest zaproponowanie algorytmu optymalizacyjnego, który pozwoli na przekształcenie istniejących struktur urbanistycznych w dzielnice osiągalne na piechotę. Stworzony na potrzeby projektu algorytm w aplikacji Grasshopper wykorzystuje zaadaptowany kalkulator przyjazności dla pieszych (oryginalnie WalkScore®) do oszacowania wyników walk score dla poszczególnych zabudowań mieszkalnych, a następnie przy użyciu ewolucyjnego narzędzia do rozwiązywania matematycznych problemów wyszukuje optymalne lokalizacje dla nowych funkcji usługowych w taki sposób, aby zmaksymalizować średnią wyników walk score. Jako wynik implementacji algorytmu w zadanym problemie w dalszej części artykułu przedstawiono konceptualny projekt przyjaznej ruchowi pieszemu dzielnicy. We wnioskach przedyskutowano zalety i wady zaproponowanego algorytmu, wynikowy projekt, a także wskazówki dla dalszych badań.
This paper presents an urban analysis and design workflow using Rhinoceros/Grasshopper with evolutionary solver Galapagos and add-ons: Shortest Walk (ShortWalk) and Elk. The research is based on the authentic urban situation in the city of Irkutsk and was conducted within the 15th session of the International Baikal Winter University of Urban Planning 2014. The aim of the research is to propose a workflow, which reforms some part of the existing urban structure into walkable neighborhood. The study uses a walkability calculator to estimate the walk scores for the residential buildings within the design perimeter and applies genetic algorithms to point out the location of the new amenities to maximize the average of the particular walk scores. As a result, the conceptual project of walkable-optimized neighborhood is proposed. The conclusions show the limitations and potentials of the applied algorithm, discuss the resulting project and outline future research.

Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie możliwości zmniejszenia kosztów eksploatacji infrastruktury. Autor na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań wybranej linii stawia tezę, że przy obecnym obciążeniu linii kolejowych - z czysto ruchowo - organizacyjnego punktu widzenia - jest możliwość zmniejszenia liczby rozjazdów na stacjach pośrednich niewęzłowych z podwójnymi przejściami torowymi w głowicach, bez negatywnego wpływu na zdolność przepustową linii i stacji oraz na płynność ruchu.

Opis:
Research was conducted to identify an ergonomics-based intervention model designed to factor in musculoskeletal disorder (MSD) prevention when library projects are being designed. The first stage of the research involved an a posteriori analysis of 10 recent redesign projects. The purpose of the analysis was to document perceptions about the attention given to MSD prevention measures over the course of a project on the part of 2 categories of employees: librarians responsible for such projects and personnel working in the libraries before and after changes. Subjects were interviewed in focus groups. Outcomes of the analysis can guide our ergonomic assessment of current situations and contribute to a better understanding of the way inclusion or improvement of prevention measures can support the workplace design process.

Opis:
Transportation science and integrated logistics of passengers in the cities provide a detailed study of the movements both on entry to the urban areas than within them. Parking lots are, very often, places of exchange between the motorized and the pedestrian or cycling mode, or between individual and collective motorized modes. As the modern urban civilization is known by its impetuous car parking expansion it becomes essential to design the parking lots bearing in mind the needs of those who will really use them and not referring to the political lobbies in the city administration. The study of parking lot in terms of business and financial design, planning and management after the construction needs is a more accurate determination of the experimental parameters, which enable choice of the model to minimize the uncertainty of the data that will define the revenues according to the Project Financing procedures.
