Project management is an important problem in research and management practice. In business practice, the number of economic activities of enterprises that do not have a procedural nature and are projects oriented to achieve defined goals within a specified time increases. In recent years the literature has emphasized in project management the need to take into account both dynamic and growing complexity of the environment. The problem of increasing unpredictability and non-linearity occurring in projects where standard methods and techniques cannot meet their role is significant. There is therefore a need for a different approach to project management , which is based on system thinking, which at the same time optimally combines the advantages of traditional mainstream in project management. It is important to present the essence of systems thinking in project management to changes in the environment and the limitations of traditional project management.

Background. A risk is inseparably related to the planning and execution of each project. A project risk is an event that may have impact on the achievement of project goals and objectives. Therefore, it is extremely important to minimize the likelihood of the occurrence and impact of potential negative events, and at the same time to take full advantage of opportunities for improvement. In other words, there is a need for project risk management.Research aims. Point out the aspects and risk management processes which are perceived to have the biggest impact on the success of a project. Indicate the risk management techniques most often used.Methodology. The search for project aspects and risk management techniques was based on scientific literature review. Exploration of actual application of risk management in private sector projects was based on surveying experts. The participants were entrepreneurs from across Poland who belonged to the Association of Project Management Poland and postgraduate.Key findings. Among the many aspects and techniques of the risk management suggestions for those which may increase the chances of achieving project success.

Project risk management is an important aspect of project management. According to the PMBoK, risk management is one of the ten knowledge areas in which a project manager must be competent. Project risk management remains a relatively undeveloped discipline, distinct from the risk management used by operational, financial, and underwriters’ risk management. This gulf is due to several factors: risk aversion (especially public understanding and risk in social activities), confusion in the application of risk management to projects, and the additional sophistication of probability mechanics above those of accounting, finance, and engineering. The aim of the presented paper is to demonstrate how to use RIPRAN (the Czech project for risk analysis) as a main part of a feasibility study of a new product project in a manufacturing company. To fulfill this primary aim, we formulated these secondary aims: – To provide a critical analysis of the available information sources dealing with risk management in new product projects in manufacturing companies. – To study and profoundly understand RIPRAN, project risk analysis, its history, application, principles, rules, and exceptions. – To discuss with the author of RIPRAN about the RIPRAN application in new product projects in manufacturing companies of non-Czech origin. – To compile a feasibility study of the new product project. All of these highly cited secondary aims were fulfilled. A short overview of the risk management topic as well as RIPRAN’s characteristics and definition are part of the presented paper. To process this theoretical part of the paper, we used mostly analysis, synthesis, comparison, and deduction. We studied monographs, journals, and internet links with the impact of a source's topicality. The used sources are cited in the list of references. During the process of a feasibility study of a new product project provided through the analysis of our own experience, we discussed the application of the RIPRAN method to the new product project with the author of this method. We realized e-mail correspondence, phone discussions, and finally a personal meeting to control the whole RIPRAN analysis document and discuss the method’s application in the non-Czech origin business environment. To fulfill the primary aim of the presented paper, we decided to use the case study method.

The large variability of internal and external factors is a serious problem hampering production management. To meet the standards and at the same time ensure the viability of production it is necessary to quickly respond to problems that arise during production processes, and to adequately correct plans. Measures taken in the management of madetoorder production are frequently single and unique, and therefore resemble the features of project management. The paper discusses the project management method derived from the theory of constraints – CCPM. The paper describes an original algorithm for CCPM implementation and presents the results of success CCPM implementation in a company from the Wielkopolska region. The implementation of CCPM resulted in improved timeliness of order delivery, improved communication and standardization of processes related to order delivery.

Celem pracy jest omówienie kierunków zmian wykorzystania nowoczesnych narzędzi wspomagających zarządzanie projektami w przedsiębiorstwach o charakterze międzynarodowym. Pokazano aktualne praktyki dotyczące ich wykorzystania oraz omówiono szanse i zagrożenia, jakie im towarzyszą. W prezentowanej pracy zastosowano metodę studium przypadku uzupełnioną o przegląd literatury uwzględniający możliwości wykorzystania narzędzia Enterprise Project Management przez wybrane przedsiębiorstwa. Analizie poddano projekt wdrożenia narzędzia informatycznego do wspomagania procesów zarządzania projektami w przedsiębiorstwie międzynarodowym. Omówiono jego zalety oraz wady w stosunku do tradycyjnych sposobów zarządzania. Wskazano szanse i zagrożenia dla rozwoju przedsiębiorstw wynikające z zastosowania nowoczesnych narzędzi informatycznych. Zaprezentowane wyniki badań mogą stanowić wsparcie dla decydentów odpowiedzialnych za rozwój i wdrażanie nowych systemów informatycznych w przedsiębiorstwie. Wnioski zawarte w pracy mogą ułatwiać podjęcie trafnej decyzji w zakresie skutecznego wykorzystania narzędzi informatycznych wspomagających zarządzanie projektami.
The paper presents the results of research on implementation of the Enterprise Project Management system tools for project management designed to streamline the process of work planning and resource management in foreign subsidiaries. Advantages and disadvantages of this type of solutions were discussed in comparison to traditional methods of management. The author also shows opportunities and threats for the development of enterprises resulting from the use of modern information technology products which support project management. Finally, psychological factors were presented which may cause employees’ concerns in international subsidiaries and may constitute an obstacle for the implementation of Enterprise Project Management systems.

The objective of this article is to show that project management practices present key success factors for implemented a Quality Management System (QMS) in Moroccan companies. In general, the organizations seem to look at the implementation of a quality management system as a project and they employ standard project management tools, albeit to a different extent and in different ways. Following a qualitative study in Morocco, the companies, whatever their sector of activity and size, use different practices in the framework of the project QMS. Information was collected from practicing managers. The data analysis shows that project management practices present a great opportunity for the successful implementation of QMS within Moroccan companies.

To start doing anything a man should have an impulse. The author’s motivation to investigate the issue of "Risk Management Procedure in Hi Tech Project Management" derives from the commercial world of managing hi-tech projects. Such an impulse in the entrepreneurial world is called an entrepreneurial intention (B. Bird 1988). The 21stcentury technology is characterised by development and implementation of sophisticated products, which are subjected tovarious risks and incredible market competitiveness. The management of conventional and traditional projects hasobjective difficulties to cover all management components dictated by risks and the competitive market. The paper’s aimis to deal with the question of “whether risk factors receive enough attention by management?” and recommendexpanding the awareness among all the management and use risk management which will help with improving the abilityto cope with the management difficulties. Based on the author questionnaire results it was found that risk management should be part of project management, which fully meets the PMs’ expectations and has been found to meet the hypothesis assumptions.

Aim/purpose – The research aims to identify and evaluate factors impacting the implementation of an agile approach in a crowdfunding project with a goal to fund a film. Design/methodology/approach – The research was conducted in March-April 2018, and based on qualitative methods of gathering data from the Polish market. Findings – We point to the two groups of factors impacting whether or not a film team can implement the agile approach in a crowdfunding project: 1) the first group of factors refers to the iterative testing of ‘the work produced’ during the project, including testing of final film elements; 2) the second group of factors refers to team management such as team goal, team engagement and communication, and conflicts between team members. The findings indicate that a potential transition to the agile approach would require significant adjustments of the current methods of conducting film projects.

Social Responsibility concept applies to business, university and individuals. It is assumed that socially responsible thinking supports sustainable development through operations for the sake of stakeholders, who represent groups of interest from three kinds of environment - social, economic and ecological. Usually, there are some balance problem between integration of objectives from those three fields. They appear during project management process, exactly like during company operation processes. Due to this similarity, an idea of integrating Social Responsibility philosophy with project management appeared. The lack of literature connecting those two concepts, resulted in need of creating definition of a socially responsible project as a basis for discussion about socially responsible project approach. Firstly, authors analyzed twenty Polish and twenty English definitions of a „social responsibility” and a „project” by using Google Scholar source. Secondly, by comparing definitions of discussed issues, some new categories were identified and also, the frequency of their occurrence was measured. The research resulted in identifying common features of both definitions and, eventually, creating a definition of a „socially responsible project” - the main purpose of this publication.

Aim/purpose – The main purpose of this paper is to identify the necessity of distinguishing a particular taxonomic group termed creative projects. Is it a peculiar, distinctive type of projects, or nowadays every project can be denominated ‘creative’? The research aims at comparing the ways of understanding and defining this term in prior literature and in the opinions of practitioners involved in everyday project management and realization. Design/methodology/approach – The paper is divided into main parts corresponding to research objectives: first, the results of literature research is demonstrated briefly, and next the results of empirical research are delineated. The empirical research was conducted with mixed methods. The quantitative part conducted as CAWI was supported by Poll Everywhere platform, the qualitative investigations were supported by MAXQDA software. Findings – According to research results, there exists the inconsistency among the views of researchers, as well as practitioners. As the literature review reveals, there are various stances towards this issue: from silent assumption that the concept does not require to be defined till some analyses of the relations between routine and creative actions. Similar variety was disclosed when analyzing practitioners’ judgments. Research implications/limitations – The divergence in opinions as to the necessity of distinguishing a particular taxon of creative projects as well as the broad variety of opinions as to their specific characteristics have given rise to the call for more precise framing scientific research on creative projects. The research has numerous limitations result-ing from its scope, sampling method or sample size, however, it demonstrates the absence of coherent views and variety of arguments used. Originality/value/contribution – Apart from urging the more rigorous frames of research on creative projects, the paper indicates new avenues of investigations oriented towards determining the ways of assessing the level of project creativity. Moreover, the paper opens the further discussion on the education and training of more creative project managers, as well as on the designing creativity-supporting project environment.

The main purpose of the paper is to examine, on the basis of empirical research, the perceived manner of project management in organizations, as well as to determine the frequency of application of selected project management methodologies, in addition to the assessment of their usefulness for project risk management. The first part of the paper presents - identified on the basis of literature studies - types and examples of project management methodologies along with basic assumptions of the project risk management process, and in the second part - the results of empirical research conducted by recourse to a questionnaire among the participants of projects implemented in various types of organizations. The study showed that in organizations employing respondents, the methodical manner of project management is most often used, while the most popular project management methodologies were PMBoK, Agile and PRINCE2, wherein respondents highly rated the usefulness of selected methodologies for effective project risk management.

Celem badania jest empiryczne rozpoznanie sposobu funkcjonowania biur zarządzania projektami (ang. PMO) w organizacjach stosujących podejście zwinne. W części środowiska zarządzania projektami panuje przekonanie, że PMO powstające zwykle w organizacjach „tradycyjnych” (command and control) nie przystaje do tzw. zwinnego myślenia (ang. agile mindset). Przykłady liderów gospodarczych pokazują jednak, że po dopasowaniu do nowych warunków, biura utrzymują swoją funkcję, a wręcz stają się zwornikiem nowego, bardziej elastycznego systemu organizacji i zarządzania. W obszarze tym istnieje istotna luka wiedzy, która na bazie uważnego rozpoznania autorów nie znajduje nadal dostatecznego zaspokojenia w dostępnych zasobach wiedzy naukowej, ani źródłach popularnych. W badaniu przyjęto strategię badawczą opartą na metodzie wywiadów ustrukturyzowanych, za pomocą których zgromadzono materiał opisujący łącznie 6 przypadków. Następnie materiał ten poddano analizie. W rezultacie nie udało się wykazać istotnych różnic w funkcjonowaniu biura projektów między środowiskiem zwinnym i tradycyjnym. Respondenci nie dostrzegli również zagrożenia dla działania PMO w mniej sformalizowanym zwinnym środowisku.
The aim of the study is empirical recognition of the functioning of project management offices (PMOs) in organizations using the agile approach project management. In some project management circles, there is a belief that PMOs typically formed in ‘traditional’ (command and control) organizations are not compatible with the so-called agile mindset. However, examples of business leaders show that, after adapting to new conditions, PMOs maintain their function and even become a pivot for a new, more flexible system of organization and management. In this area there is a knowledge gap which has not been addressed sufficiently either in the subject literature or in popular sources so far, according to the authors. The study adopted a research strategy based on the method of structured interviews through which material describing a total of 6 cases was gathered. Subsequently, this material underwent analysis. As a result, it was not possible to demonstrate significant differences in the functioning of the project office between agile and traditional environments. The respondents also did not perceive any threats to the PMO’s operation in a less formalized agile environment.

In the research carried out by one of Polish research agencies [Pentor 2010], local administration offices were in general seen as institutions which, despite high expenditures, maintained inefficient operations and as a result did fully satisfy the needs of citizens. In addition, searching for the causes of failures in projects, the lack of professional approach to project management should be highlighted, which relates to the undertaken ad hoc adaptation activities to changes in the environment, and the implementation of projects in interim and in unsystematic way. The research found that the consequence of this state of affairs was the reduction of the effectiveness of implementation of projects and of synergistic effect created by audited entity. As a result, the growing importance of project management in the functioning of local government units in Poland, with low levels of performance previously practiced in this field, tended to take the search for a new approach to project management in the units.

Knowledge transfer and utilization are prerequisites for changing position at the project management maturity evolution path. A continuous improvement of the practices in collecting and re-usage project knowledge is needed for organizations to be at higher level of proficiency in project management which develops the organization's competitive position in the market of future. Project management performance is based on the knowledge of project team members. Naftanaila (2010) states that "other individuals, either internal or external to the project at hand, can use that knowledge if and only if it is applied and transferred effectively". Efficient knowledge transfer requires not only systems and procedures but also climate for knowledge share. Knowledge transfer between projects enables development of more effective and more sophisticated practices in project management. The results of the survey confirmed that knowledge is managed and utilized to a wider extent among organizations which are more experienced in project management. The immature organizations do not collect the project knowledge in a systematic way. However, managing project knowledge and experiences are still very important activities, no matter if organization is at the lowest or highest level of maturity. As little attention has been paid to how effective project knowledge transfer can help in achieving higher level of maturity in project management, this paper has contributed to the description of the importance of project knowledge transfer and utilization in the manner of improving project management maturity.

In this study, we have presented the results obtained using a new tool developed to solve the problem of finding the optimal trade-off between project duration and cost in the context of resource criticality. The tool we have developed applies principles of tabu search to optimize the process of identifying project activities to be accelerated. Using our project acceleration algorithm on projects previously treated using other approaches, we demonstrated that the tool identifies the same solution or in some cases a better solution and with a shorter calculation time. This work thus proposes a new avenue to explore with more in-depth studies for the improvement of project management.

Every professionally managed project is performed accordingly to precise defined principles, methods and a plan. As well, IT projects, which are major business ventures globally these days, are governed with similar approach. Defining objectives and project framework, selecting resources, drafting schedules are a fundamental skills, which can be taught at every basic business course. It seems to be that it is enough to acquire appropriate knowledge in area of project management to be successful IT manager in spite of the size and the type of the venture. Still, only 16% ERP projects are successful, 84% projects do not meet deadlines and business goals and 78% projects overrun budgets. By paradox, to solve above presented business, economic problem it is necessary to address it by developing axiological research. It is based on the principle that empathy is the third perspective that is build in to the well know Game Theory model which consists of two perspectives: trust and loyalty (Deutsch). In this case, in the process of selecting an appropriate type of the game, between a customer and a vendor, we have to base on a better understanding of needs and axiological profiles on both sites. In other words, if the business goal of the partner is better defined and understood and if it is assumed that the success of one site depends on the other, the final effect, by definition, is almost guaranteed. To achieved that, it is a must for every IT manager to work on developing, the so called business empathy instead of just useless promoting the assertive business philosophy.

Despite the Information Technology (IT) sector’s continuing growth driving massive demand for IT project practitioners, the high failure rate of IT projects has caused enormous losses for many organizations. Establishing effective and proactive practice for project risk management (PRM) is imperative. Risk exposure scoring is becoming a critical risk classifier in prioritizing items in descending order, developing plans to address the most significant factors, and leaving the rest on a “watch list”. This study analyzes responses from targeted project managers (PM) in Malaysia-Singapore to a survey. The author ranked the intrinsic risk of projects and investigated the effect of a project practitioner’s level of experience in risk assessment. The results indicated that a project practitioner’s assessments of risk depend on the number of years of experience acquired.

Opis:
A key issue for stakeholder management is to determine who, to what extent and why can influence a project. Proper identification of stakeholders and their classification according to the criteria adopted allows for defining their hierarchy, strength and impact on the project. This, in turn, conditions the development of a strategy for dealing with individual stakeholder groups. The definitions of the concept of a stakeholder have been reviewed to determine the identification criteria. The article also attempts to systematize methods of qualifying stakeholders, depending on the number of differentiation criteria. The methods used for the qualification of stakeholders are often presented graphically.

The article constitutes an introduction to the broadly-understood area Project Management. The text at issue includes the following questions: the interpretation of the notion of project and various interpretations of project management, the structure of research methods, project defining, the procedure of operationisation, the characteristics of research models and controlling lists, the peculiarity of improving and base planning, stages and phases of the planning and execution process.

In recent years project management has become a complex and diverse field of scientific research. It embodies a number of specific tools and techniques, choice of which to particular project is far from being obvious, especially for the beginners. Such situation rationalizes efforts aiming at the development of methods of training, which are more efficient than the “trial-and-error” approach. In this context the paper presents a web application that simulates real life scenarios and allows for developing skills, among others, in identifying the needed/available resources against the dynamically changing goals. The platform teaches the agile approach to project management with Scrum and gives an opportunity to “materialize” the progress made by users with an original piece of software. The prototype of the web application has been successfully tested at Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski University.

The aim of the article is to present elaborated risk management model in project management of e-learning courses development and implementation. Showed model of risk management is a part of a complex, integrated model for e-learning projects' processes management. The starting point of the article is an analysis of the current state of scientific literature in the field of project management for e-learning courses with a thesis that there are no suitable models adapted to the specifics of e-learning. For the thesis confirmation a case studies of four e-learning institutions with significant experience in e-learning field is being shown. Developed risk management model is presented in the third part of the article. It starts from showing elaborated general processes map, with integrated risk management. Finally detailed risk management models for distinguished processes are being presented. The article is based on case studies of European institutions with significant e-learning projects realization experience, like: Oncampus, Lübeck University of Applied Science from Germany; Distance Education Centre, Kaunas University of Technology from Lithuania; Center of Distance Education Development, Higher Banking School and Educational Portal of University of Gdansk, University of Gdansk. It also includes author's six years’ experience gained by participation in e-learning projects, like international Baltic Sea Virtual Campus and national POKL as courses’ author, instructional designer and it coordinator.

Successful management of an information technology (IT) project is the most desirable for all organisations and stakeholders. Many researchers elaborated that risk management is a key part of project management for any project size. Risk management is so critical because it provides project managers with a forward-looking view of both threats and opportunities to improve the project success. The objectives of this research are to explore organisational factors affecting IT project success and risk management practices influencing IT project success. Risk management practices include risk identification, risk analysis, risk response planning, and risk monitoring and control. The IT project success is measured by proces performance and product performance. Data are collected from 200 project managers, IT managers, and IT analysts in IT firms through questionnaires and analysed using Independent Sample t-test, One-way ANOVA, and Multiple Linear Regression at the statistical significance level of 0.05. The results show that the differences in organisational types affect IT project success in all aspects, while the differences on organisational sizes affect IT project success in the aspect of product performance and total aspects. Risk identification and risk response planning influence the process performance and the total aspects of IT project success. Risk identification has the highest positive influence on product performance, followed closely by risk response, while risk analysis negatively influences product performance.

Skilful project management will add value to business. The project manager’s ability tomobilize and combine resources plays a vital role in successful project management. Leadership andmanagement competences are identified and viewed as part of project management. The researchdata is based on Laurea’s student analysis of project management. Laurea’s implementation in businessdevelopment projects with real-life companies is part of the study programme for students.Individual skills of students used in these projects will be examined and compared to successfulproject management and leadership. The main results of the research verified that communication isthe main key competence for project success. Other key competences such as leadership attitude,a Project Manager’s motivational behaviour and project planning were included in the most criticalfactors of a project success.

The article deals with the problem of the relationship between an employee and a project manager. The research aims to examine the employee - project manager relationship in the projects of European companies. The article consists of two main parts. The first is theoretical, the second empirical. The empirical data was collected by conducting semi-structured interviews with five project managers and five team employees.
Artykuł podejmuje problematykę relacji między pracownikiem a kierownikiem projektu. Badania mają na celu zbadanie relacji między pracownikiem a kierownikiem projektu w ramach projektów realizowanych w europejskich przedsiębiorstwach. Struktura artykułu składa się z dwóch głównych części. Pierwsza z nich jest teoretyczna, druga empiryczna. Dane empiryczne zostały zebrane za pośrednictwem niestandaryzowanych wywiadów z pięcioma kierownikami projektów i pięcioma pracownikami zespołu.

Competence frameworks are increasingly used in several practice fields and have been an object of research. A typical development trend has been encapsulation into a particular field, not considering the developments in related fields. Similarly, in research, learning from neighbouring disciplines has been rare. Yet, during the past decade, there have been several attempts at linking essentially related disciplines in practice, such as entrepreneurship and project management. This is a reaction to the trends in the labour market – a growing demand for people with diverse competences. In this context, converging different fields via competences deserves more attention. This paper compares the competences required for project managers and entrepreneurs; in addition, it explores the possibilities for mutual enrichment, contributing to further linking of project management and entrepreneurship conceptually. The cross-examination of competences for entrepreneurs (The Entrepreneurship Competence Framework or EntreComp) and for project managers (International Project Management Association's Individual Competence Baseline [IPMA-ICB]) reveals some quite significant, but also weak, correlations. The linguistic approach used has natural limitations, as different terms have been used to convey the same concepts. Thus, a relational linguistic analysis and conceptual analysis have also been applied. The main implication is the recommendation to integrate core project management competences into competence models for entrepreneurs. A natural progression of this work is to build a common competence model for entrepreneurs and project managers.

W artykule ukazano kierunki rozwoju zarządzania projektami w świetle badań zagranicznych i krajowych oraz zwrócono uwagę na znaczenie dojrzałości projektowej organizacji, chociażby dla powtarzalnego osiągania takiego samego poziomu sukcesu w kolejnych projektach. Przedstawiono studia przypadków stosowania zwinnego zarządzania projektami w dużych korporacjach oraz wskazano na konieczność bardziej świadomego – czyli powiązanego ze strategią – pojmowania roli zarządzania projektami w organizacjach.
The article presents project management development trends in the light of foreign and national research and draws attention to importance of the organization’s project maturity if only for repeatable achievement of the same level of success in consecutive projects. Furthermore, case studies of the use of agile management in big corporations are presented along with the need to apply a more conscious – i.e. connected with strategy – understanding of the role of project management in organizations.

Jednym z takich sposobów może być zastosowanie metody łańcucha krytycznego, która umożliwia skuteczniejsze realizowanie projektów w środowisku wieloprojektowym, dzięki wprowadzonym buforom czasu i werbla. Metodę tą zaimplementowano w jednym z opolskich przedsiębiorstw, które realizuje zlecenia produkcyjno-usługowe w zakresie kompleksowego projektowania i wdrażania automatyki przemysłowej oraz wykonywania skomplikowanych instalacji elektrycznych dla różnego rodzaju budynków przemysłowych. Dzięki wdrożonej metodzie łańcucha krytycznego przedsiębiorstwo uzyskało znaczące korzyści finansowe i organizacyjne.
The manufacturing enterprises increasingly realize many orders (projects) at the same time in order to maintain their position in the global market. Project portfolio management is a complex activity and requires to adopt an innovative approach to managing business. One such method is the critical chain project management (CCPM), which allows for more efficient projects execution in a multi-project environment by introducing time and drum buffers. This method has been implemented in one of the companies in Opole Voivodeship, which performs production and service orders for complex design and implementation of industrial automation and execution of complex electrical installations for various types of industrial buildings. The implementation of the critical chain method has allowed the enterprise significant financial and organizational benefits.

The permanent increase in the number of projects implemented in public administration, as well as the implementation of several projects at the same time causes that some processes are repeated and take the form of functions that can be treated as permanent tasks assigned to positions or organizational units. Additionally, the increase in the complexity of projects and the need to gather knowledge and experience from accomplished projects are in favour of the need to build and operate a project management office in these units. The article is an attempt to identify organizational units in town offices with county rights in Poland that realise typical tasks for a project management office. The study concerns the determination of the place of these units in an organizational structure and tasks implemented by selected organizational units acting as a project management office.
Ciągły wzrost liczy realizowanych projektów w administracji publicznej, a także realizacja w tym samym czasie kilku projektów powoduje, że niektóre procesy powtarzają się i przybierają postać funkcji, które mogą zostać potraktowane jako stałe zadania przydzielone stanowiskom bądź jednostkom organizacyjnym. Dodatkowo, wzrost stopnia skomplikowania projektów i potrzeba gromadzenia wiedzy i doświadczenia ze zrealizowanych projektów przemawiają za potrzebą budowy i funkcjonowania biura zarządzania projektami w tych jednostkach. W artykule podjęto próbę identyfikacji jednostek organizacyjnych w urzędach miast na prawach powiatu w Polsce, które realizują zadania typowe dla biura zarzadzania projektami. Określono miejsce tych jednostek w strukturze organizacyjnej oraz wskazano zadania realizowane przez wybrane jednostki organizacyjne pełniące rolę biura zarzadzania projektami.

The presented paper is an attempt to evaluate the application of different buffer sizing methods (within the critical chain approach) to a real-life project, in order to show that it is important to choose consciously one of the existing methods. The implementation of the different approaches to the buffer sizing procedure resulted in eight unique schedules. Once all the methods were implemented, the authors of this paper stumbled upon 2 inconveniences (slack vs. buffer, splitting up buffers). Funding solution for these handicaps caused obtaining eight more schedules. In order to evaluate all the determined solutions, the authors decided to establish a simulation study. A random dataset was generated of 2000 observations using the mean and variance calculated for the probability distribution determined by three possible durations (optimistic, expected and pessimistic) given by the project team members. To validate the performance of different methods, two penalty systems were designed. The test results indicate which specific buffer sizing technique performs best in the presented case, taking into account the attitude of the decision maker. The simulation study is the proposal of a method to be applied in each case of the critical chain method application, because it makes the use of the critical chain method more effective.

Społeczna odpowiedzialność działalności przedsiębiorstw określa odpowiedzialność organizacji za zrównoważony rozwój, zawiera obowiązki w zakresie dbałości nie tylko o zapewnienie ciągłości jego funkcjonowania, ale także działania na rzecz ochrony środowiska naturalnego, likwidację lub zmniejszanie nierówności społecznych w tym skrajnego ubóstwa czy dbałość o lokalny rozwój gospodarczy. Analizując to zagadnienie przez pryzmat projektów Autorzy uważają, że projekty – jako główne instrumenty rozwoju organizacji – powinny uwzględniać elementy zrównoważonego rozwoju odnośnie do sposobu organizacji prac, planowania ich wykonawstwa, produktów cząstkowych oraz ostatecznych rezultatów. W tym ujęciu warto podkreślić, że odpowiedzialność za obszar zrównoważonego rozwoju należy postrzegać jako naturalny element zakresu projektu, zaś branie odpowiedzialności za ten obszar powinno stać się zwyczajowym elementem procesów zarządczych w realizacji projektów, ujętych nie tylko w oddolnych procesach decyzyjnych, ale również ich wsparciu metodycznym. Zdaniem Autorów warto również doprecyzować pojęcia społecznej odpowiedzialności projektów oraz zrównoważonego zarządzania projektami. Analizie tych właśnie zagadnień został poświęcony niniejszy artykuł.
Social responsibility of enterprises defines the organization’s responsibility for sustainable development, includes obligations to ensure not only the continuity of its operation, but also activities to protect the natural environment, eliminate or reduce social inequalities, including extreme poverty or attention to local economic development. Taking project management into consideration, the authors believe that projects, as the main instruments of organizational development, should take into account elements of sustainable development regarding the way of organizing work, planning its execution, partial products, and final results. In this approach, it is worth emphasizing that responsibility for the area of sustainable development should be perceived as a natural element of the project scope, and taking responsibility for this area should become a customary element of management processes in project implementation, included not only in bottom-up decision-making processes but also in their methodological support. According to the authors, it is also worth clarifying the concepts of social responsibility of projects and sustainable project management. This article is devoted to the analysis of these issues.

The main aim of this study is to analyse the development trends of project management with the focus on the management of IT projects. The initial parts of the work are devoted to the analysis of the concepts concerning project management and their relation to the management of processes. Next, the author defines the basic determinants of IT projects' management. The subsequent part of this work concerns the evolution of the IT project life cycle in project management methodologies. In the final part of this study the author characterized modern project management methodologies and analyzed the trends in their development.
Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza tendencji rozwojowych zarządzania projektami ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zarządzania projektami IT. Pierwsza część pracy poświęcona jest analizom pojęć, związanych z zarządzaniem projektami i ich stosunku do zarządzania procesami. Następnie autor definiuje podstawowe determinanty zarządzania projektami IT. W dalszej części pracy poruszane jest zagadnienie ewolucji IT i cyklu życia projektu w metodologii zarządzania projektami. W końcowej części pracy autor charakteryzuje nowoczesne metody zarządzania projektami i analizy tendencji w ich rozwoju.

High work efficiency is required by today’s organizations. Besides of other factors it depends on the right allocation of employed workers to their duties. Assigning employees to the right activities isn’t an easy task, because the job efficiency and differences in human nature have to be considered simultaneously. Usually, the decision undertaken by the human resource (HR) manager is based on his subjective experience. In several cases, such solution results in negative reactions of employees, and may lead to conflicts occurrence. In order to avoid them the problem of allocation of the properly selected team (taking into account workers’ personality) to the project’s activity is of crucial importance. Its right solution can decrease risk of activity execution delay. So, it is assumed the project’s completion time depends both on physical and psychological features of employed workers. Experimental results presented illustrate this approach.

The article presents the problem of managing projects by administration departments at higher education institutions in Poland. Changes in the higher education sector raised the need to increase efficiency in administrative work. One solution may be to implement project management standards. The main objective of the study was to check whether administration departments at higher education institutions in Poland use project management in their work. The author’s questionnaire was used as a research tool to conduct the study. The questionnaire was addressed to the Chancellors. 13 universities from 10 cities in Poland participated in the study. Eight of the universities declared to have regulations on project management activities in organizational documentation, while ten out of thirteen universities have project offices.

Purpose: The main objective of the research presented in this paper was to identify the managerial competences of project team managers. In order to achieve this objective, the first part of the paper explains the meaning of the term "project management" in the literature on management and quality. The second part of the paper is devoted to an analysis of the conducted research, on the basis of which an attempt is made to answer the question: which managerial competences are key in the role of a project manager? Design/methodology/approach: The research presented in this paper is based on the analysis of the literature on project management and managerial competences. The studies in literature also included secondary sources, which were communications from research of similar scope. The combination of different research methods allowed to obtain a broader context of the studied phenomenon and ensured a higher quality of the conducted research. The diversity of methods was aimed at achieving a consistency of the empirical basis for the inference. A diagnostic survey was adopted as the leading method. The remaining methods applied in the paper were auxiliary (complementary). Findings: An inseparable element of human life is change, which also accompanies enterprises on a daily basis. The information about changes in the market and competitors, provided every day, is a natural manifestation of economic life. Consequently, everyone has to improve their operations in the area of products, technology and organisation in order to remain on the market. As a result, every person, as well as every economic activity take actions aimed at achieving the intended goals, facing new needs and challenges. The way to achieve the desired results is a process known as a project. The efficient functioning of a project team requires the use of appropriate management support methods and tools, systematic measurement, constant comparison with competitors, removal of barriers and the exploitation of development opportunities. Research limitations/implications: In the future, research will be continued on a larger research sample. Practical implications: The paper presents the results of research carried out at a nationwide telecommunications operator that employs several thousand people. This company is part of a large capital group and, due to the group's communication policy, has reserved anonymity. The findings are very interesting and encourage research on a larger scale. They are a valuable source of information for managers responsible for the formation of project teams, the selection of its members, their functioning and project implementation. On the other hand, for persons. responsible for recruiting employees, the results may be useful in terms of developing a project team manager's profile, in particular when identifying the key managerial competences. Originality/value Based on empirical research, the paper proposes an original set of systemic solutions for project management to improve organisational performance.

The paper presents the declarative approach to design of a reference model aimed at project prototyping. The reference model contains the finite set of decision variables, their domains and linking those constraints, i.e. can be seen as a kind of Constraint Satisfaction Problem. Consequently, the model considered can be treated as a knowledge base specifying both a class of enterprises and the projects that could be conducted on their base. So, the model provides a platform for rapid prototyping of alternative versions of project scheduling. The routine queries can be formulated in the straight or reverse way. In that context, the proposed reference model can be implemented in constraint programming (CP) techniques

This paper presents the outline of the valuation method of development projects in which there are real option situations. The proposed method takes into account the dependence of the project as a result of two independent random economic factors, which are called state variables. Based on binomial trees, and uses multicriteria dynamic programming. Its use should allow not only to make the right decisions about the project, but also to support decision making during its implementation.

An investment project as an undertaking for the future, more or less foreseeable, is a priori encumbered with the possibility of occurrence of disturbances. In recent years there have appeared significant changes in the scope of execution of construction projects, connected with the investment execution time, manner of financing, investors, and the environment in which the given project is executed. That fact determines the need, or even the necessity, to conduct the research into the issues of risk assessment and its utilitarian aspects. That problem applies also to construction projects, including water supply and sewage projects. An example of the project with all kinds of threats characteristic of such types of investments is the project entitled “Complex protection of the underground waters in the Kielce agglomeration.” The risk factors result from the complexity and specificity of that type of projects. The presented article is an introduction to the discussion on the issues of assessing the risk of execution of water supply and sewage projects. The intention of the authors was to present the specificity of that type of projects and the general identification of the risk factors accompanying them.

This paper describes the problem of Project risk management, which certainly constitutes an important aspect of project management. Project risk management remains a relatively undeveloped discipline, distinct from the risk management applied to Operational or Financial risk management. Good Project Risk Management depends on supporting organizational factors, having clearly defined roles and responsibilities, and technical analysis. Chronologically, Project Risk Management may begin by recognizing a threat, or by examining an opportunity. Finally, risks must be integrated to provide a complete picture, so projects should be integrated into enterprise wide risk management, to seize opportunities related to the achievement of their objectives.

Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje harmonogramowanie jako element systemu zarządzania podczas instalacji sieci informatycznej. Obejmuje planowanie, terminarz, przydzielanie zasobów do określonych zadań, ocenę ryzyka oraz szacowanie budżetu. Materiał i metody: W artykule zostały omówione pojęcia i terminy związane z harmonogramowaniem. Do wyjaśnienia problemu została użyta aplikacja Microsoft Project 2010. Program jest prosty i przejrzysty w obsłudze. Zawiera wszystkie narzędzia i składniki niezbędne do stworzenia prawidłowego harmonogramu. Wyniki: W przykładzie podanym w projekcie obliczono czas trwania budowy sieci komputerowej i jego koszt. W koszcie zostały uwzględnione płace pracowników i zakup materiałów. Ścieżka krytyczna omawianego projektu nie możne mieć wiele opóźnień, ponieważ będzie to skutkowało opóźnieniem całego projektu. Niezwykle przydatna okazuje się funkcja ścieżki krytycznej oraz wykres Gantta. Wniosek: Program Microsoft Project 2010 idealnie nadaje się do tworzenia harmonogramu projektu z uwzględnieniem budżetu, zasobów oraz terminarza. Przedstawia graficznie problemy zaistniałe w przedsięwzięciu co znacznie ułatwia ich odnalezienie i późniejszą korekcję.
Introduction and aim: In modern times, project management is an inseparable element of professional activity and effective development of many enterprises operating on global and local markets. Project management is enormously popular and even necessary during creation of IT systems or computer networks. This article presents scheduling as an element of management system during installation of IT Network. It includes planning, timetable, assignment of resources to specific tasks, evaluation of risks and assessment of budget. Material and methods: The article discusses concepts and terms related with scheduling. Microsoft Project 2010 software has been used to tackle this issue. The software is simple and easy to use. It contains all tools and components necessary in creating a correct schedule. Results: In the example given in the project calculated the duration of the construction of the network and its cost. The cost included wages of employees and the purchase of materials. The critical path of the project can not subsequently have a lot of delays, as this will result in a delay of the project. Extremely useful function turns out to be the critical path and Gantt chart. Conclusion: Microsoft Project 2010 is ideal for creating a project schedule with regard to the budget, resources and schedule. Graphically illustrates the problems occurring in the project making it much easier to find them and the subsequent correction.

The subject of project managers' competencies was very popular in scientific research over the past decades. A great number of academic researchers studied the field of project manager's competencies, its impact on project success and correlation to project performance and key characteristics of a project environment. The aim of this literature study was to analyze methodological aspects of aforementioned studies in order to identify research patterns applied, research instruments used, respondents' profiles and others. It's understandable that publications related to competencies of project managers can be found in leading project management journals. These articles constituted also a basis of the analysis. Furthermore, publications considered were narrowed to those focused on at least one of three appointed aspects, namely identification of competencies, their evaluation or relative importance assessment. Over a dozen of articles were obtained as the outcome of journals review. Key characteristics of selected studies were systematically analyzed and compared, including, among others, construction of the respondents group, examined subset of competencies and the approach adopted to identification and evaluation of competencies. As a result some patterns and repeatable elements were found. Moreover, two identified contentious practices were discussed - usage of a self-assessment to evaluate performance of respondent and usage of project success criteria aimed at assessing the performance of a project manager.

This work demonstrates correlation between technical system efficiency criterion and complex system efficiency criterion in which the said technical system operates. Furthermore, the said correlation may be expressed by means of a set of separate particular criteria of a complex system. Methodology of choosing the technical system for project implementation within the framework of project-oriented organization of a complex sociotechnical system is also proposed. The offered method provides for a basis algorithm for calculations of situational efficiency criterion for technical system supposed to be applied within the project. The criterion in question indicates the extent to which the technical system is suitable for implementing its objective under specific conditions arising at various stages of the project implementation.
W pracy omówiono korelację między kryterium efektywności systemu technicznego i kryterium efektywności złożonego systemu, w którym wspomniany układ techniczny działa. Ponadto, wspomniany związek może być wyrażony za pomocą szeregu odrębnie określonych kryteriów złożonego systemu. W artykule zaproponowanio także metodologię wyboru systemu technicznego dla realizacji projektu w ramach projektowo zorientowanej organizacji, złożonego systemu socjotechnicznego. Sugerowana metoda przedstawia algorytm będący podstawą do obliczenia sytuacyjnego kryterium efektywności systemu technicznego, który miałby być stosowany w ramach projektu. Kryterium, o którym mowa, wskazuje w jakim stopniu system techniczny jest odpowiedni do realizacji swojego celu w określonych warunkach pojawiających się na różnych etapach realizacji projektu.

Purpose: the aim of this article is to identify the place of social responsibility in the area of project management. The article is aims to determine the areas of interpenetration or mutual relations between Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Project Management (PM). Design/methodology/approach: this paper reviewed different definitions of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), project and project management. The article is an attempt to systematise the relatively new concept of Project Social Responsibility (PSR), which requires combining the CSR concept with a project approach. Since each company, apart from its current activity, carries out or will carry out projects in the future, the aim of this article is to identify the place of social responsibility in the area of project management. The article is of an analytical nature. Findings: none of the mentioned definitions of project management or the project itself referred to the company's strategy, social, environmental or even stakeholder impact. Moreover, stakeholders are one of the main reasons for the implementation of projects. Originality/value: the comparison made between 'CSR' and the term 'portfolio management' already indicates a greater correlation between these concepts. It may therefore be assumed that the place of Corporate Social Responsibility is in the portfolio management and involves planning and implementation of current activities, programmes or projects relevant to the company's strategic objectives and taking into account their impact, as well as the impact of the company itself on CSR areas.

Artykuł bazuje na standardzie PMI® (Project Management Institute), w którym opisana jest metoda wartości wypracowanej, jako jedna z technik używanych do kontroli postępu realizacji projektu. Dalej przedstawione zostały podstawowe elementy metody wartości wypracowanej używane do szacowania postępu realizacji projektu, podstawowe formuły niezbędne do analizy harmonogramu i kosztów projektu oraz prognozowania jego zakończenia. Artykuł kończy opis zasad praktycznego korzystania z metody wartości wypracowanej, jak również propozycja standardu raportowania. Przedstawiono tutaj również problemy związane z korzystaniem z metody wartości wypracowanej. Artykuł zawiera przykład użycia metody wartości wypracowanej do kontroli postępu realizacji przykładowego projektu.
The article is based on the PMI® (Project Management Institute) standard, in which the Earned Value Method is described, as one of the techniques used to control the progress of the project work performed. The article starts with a brief introduction, followed by a presentation of the Earned Value Method on the background of project management processes in PMI® methodology. Then are presented the basic elements of Earned Value Methods used for the progress of the project work performed estimation, the basic formulas necessary to analyze the schedule and project costs and forecasting the project completion. The article ends with a description of the principles of the practical use of the Earned Value Method, as well as the proposed reporting standard. Presented here are also problems associated with the Earned Value Method using. The article contains an example of using the Earned Value Method to control the progress of the project work performed for a sample project.

The complexity and uncertainty of the modern world encourage companies to use nowadays project management practices. Research of project management maturity allows assessing how well companies are prepared to run projects. The main motivation behind the article was lack of project management maturity assessment on the Polish logistic market. In the article, the authors describe research that gives an overview of the subject which was conducted in logistics companies operating on the Polish market. Methods: Quantitative approach delivered by an online survey was chosen as a method of research. Purposive sampling research strategy was used. Researchers surveyed 60 biggest logistics companies operating on the Polish market (according to revenue) receiving 13 responses from which 12 were used. Results and Conclusion: In the perception of responding managers from the biggest logistics companies operating on the Polish market, they are functioning in a volatile and uncertain environment with a strong need for successful changes and project implementation. Even though one could think that therefore researched companies are mature in the project management or the innovation management area, our research showed otherwise. Project management maturity is still in development phase and innovation management is nearly non-existing, which shows that logistic companies operating on the Polish market are in painful process "learning of project management by experience".
Wstęp: Złożoność i niepewność współczesnego świata zachęca firmy do używania współczesnych praktyk zarządzania projektami. Analiza dojrzałości zarządzania projektami pozwala ocenić jak dobrze firmy są przygotowane do prowadzenia projektów. Główną motywacją dla niniejszego artykułu była niedostępność badań nt. poziomu dojrzałości zarządzania projektami na polskim rynku logistycznym. W artykule autorzy opisują badanie, które dotyczy tego tematu i które zostało przeprowadzone w firmach logistycznych działających w Polsce. Metody: Jako metoda badawcza wybrane zostało podejście ilościowe przeprowadzone za pomocą ankiety internetowej. Przeprowadzono badanie w 60 największych firmach logistycznych działających w Polsce (według przychodu), otrzymując 13 odpowiedzi, z których 12 zostało wykorzystanych. Wyniki i wnioski: W postrzeganiu ankietowanych menedżerów, firmy logistyczne działające na polskim rynku funkcjonują w zmiennym i niepewnym otoczeniu, z wyraźną potrzebą wdrażania zmian i realizacji projektów. Wydawałoby się, że z tego powodu badane firmy będą dojrzałe w zarządzaniu projektami lub zarządzaniu innowacjami, jednak nasze badania wykazały, że jest inaczej. Dojrzałość zarządzania projektami jest nadal w fazie rozwoju, a zarządzanie innowacjami praktycznie nie istnieje, co pokazuje, że polskie firmy logistyczne są obecnie w bolesnym procesie "uczenia się zarządzania projektami przez doświadczenie".

This paper is aimed at using an ERP database to identify the variables that have a significant influence on the duration of a project phase. In the paper, some methodologies of the knowledge discovery process are compared and a model of knowledge discovery from an ERP database is proposed. The presented approach is dedicated for the industrial enterprises that use an ERP system to plan and control the development of new products. The example contains four stages of the knowledge discovery process, such as data selection, data transformation, data mining, and the interpretation of patterns. Among data mining techniques, a fuzzy neural system is chosen to seek relationships between data from completed projects and other data stored in an ERP system.

In the article the author presented the example of a management system implementation in an enterprise. The elements of the system were discussed, especially the role of a project manager in the system. The range of procedures realized in the frame of the system was analysed. Additionally, the practical conclusions were given deriving from the process of preparation and implementation of a project management system in a specified enterprise.

Biuro Zarządzania Projektami (PMO – Project Management Office) to jedna z najnowszych koncepcji w zarządzaniu. Rozwój działalności projektowej wymaga posiadania kompetencji nie tylko w zakresie zarządzania projektami, ale również w zakresie jednolitych zasad monitorowania i koordynacji realizacji wielu projektów jednocześnie. Centrum takich kompetencji jest właśnie PMO. Artykuł stanowi wprowadzenie w problematykę PMO. Omówiono podstawowe elementy koncepcji PMO, modele dojrzałości (doskonałości) organizacyjnej w zakresie zarządzania projektami. Przedstawiono sposób oceny poziomu dojrzałości organizacyjnej oraz wpływ tej oceny na przedsiębiorstwo. W zakończeniu przedstawiono zalecenia dotyczące wdrożenia PMO w przedsiębiorstwie. Artykuł dedykowany jest osobom zainteresowanym problematyką PMO, oceną poziomu dojrzałości organizacji w zakresie zarządzania projektami oraz wdrożeniem PMO w przedsiębiorstwie.
PMO (Project Management Office) is one of the newest idea in management. Project activity development requires competences not only in the scope of project management but also in the scope of homogeneous principles of monitoring, as well as coordination of many project realization simultaneously. Center of such competences establish exactly PMO. Article include to PMO problems introduction. It discuss basic elements of PMO concepts, models of organizational maturity (fineness) in scope of project management. Article presents manner of level organizational maturity estimation and it influence on organization. At the end article presents recommendations concerning PMO in organization deploying. Article is dedicated persons interested of PMO problems, level of organizational maturity in the scope of project management estimation, as well as PMO in organization deploying.

The article Changed results of studies conducted among middle management staff of one of the companies in construction and assembly of the knowledge of the methods and tools of project management and project managers competence. Employees who participated in the study, acting as contract manager and the object of their direct involvement investment plans are realized in the form of projects related to industrial insulation, scaffolding and assembly services in many areas of both construction and industrial applications. The choice of this group of respondents was not accidental, since the contract manager most often determine the success project. The study was conducted in one of the companies in Opole province. The study involved 16 respondents from 26 project managers employed by the company. The main objective of the study was to gain knowledge about the competence of project managers (contracts). Conducted for this purpose a survey which was anonymous and contained 29 questions. Questions related to the competence of the project manager. Competencies that have been studied are: technical, social, organizational and managerial. The results of the study were a surprise to both the investigator and the President of the company, because it turned out that the steering contracts employed by the company are not familiar with common methods and tools of project management. The reason for these results is the lack of use of the names of these methods the company. The company carries out its projects based on internal procedures "Service Delivery", which is part of the Quality Management System. The procedure is developed on the basis of the methods of project management. Although the project managers use the methods and techniques of project management, are not using their common names only the term "Service Delivery". Due to this fact cannot determine the technical competence of project managers in this factory.

The objective of the paper is to characterize the negotiations within project management area, being the ones of the most important types of business negotiations. The concept of project management was presented as the context of those negotiations. Then, their features were described as well as their types were distinguished. Summing up the paper, the subsequent areas of research were pointed out.

This paper deals with PM training efficient and profitable for all stakeholders. The inspiration to write it was the author’s rich experience as a trainer and an IPMA Project Excellence Award Assessor. There are three reasons for writing the paper: to encourage managers to better prepare such training (formulation of needs and expectations by them), to indicate the main points of content and the method of training for inexperienced trainers and to promote the PE Award. The methodology used consisted in observation, interviewing and inquiring. Basic results are: showing managers the weight of needs and expectations formulation, the content and methods of training and PE Award promotion. Conclusions – training more profitable for companies and interesting for participants and trainers. The PE Award is more recognized worldwide.
Praca dotyczy szkoleń z zarządzania projektami, skutecznych i użytecznych dla przedsiębiorstw, instytucji i organizacji. Inspiracją do jej napisania było bogate doświadczenie Autora jako trenera PM oraz asesora konkursu INTERNATIONAL PROJECT MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION Project Excellence Award. Są trzy powody uzasadniające napisanie tego artykułu. Zachęcenie menedżerów do lepszego przygotowania szkoleń z zakresu PM (sformułowania potrzeb i oczekiwań), podpowiedzenie niedoświadczonym trenerom głównych treści i metod szkolenia oraz promowanie idei PE Award. Zastosowana metodyka polegała na obserwacji, wywiadzie i ankietyzacji. Zasadniczymi wynikami są: ukazanie menedżerom wagi właściwego formułowania potrzeb i oczekiwań, treści i metody szkoleń oraz promocja dobrych praktyk w postaci PE Award. Wnioski – szkolenia z PM są korzystne dla przedsiębiorstw/organizacji i ciekawsze dla uczestników oraz trenerów. Ponadto, konkurs PE Award jeszcze bardziej rozpoznawalny w świecie.

Nowadays an increasing number of enterprises realize the importance of competitiveness improvement through collaboration. It is obvious that the collaborative network is becoming an effective tool that enables small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to survive under the global crisis pressure. It enforces enterprises to focus resources and means on the main activities, and to rebuild the architecture for manufacturing system in effective ways. Therefore, we decided to continue working on research topic of collaborative manufacturing projects management. In this paper we introduce the novel framework for the further development of the existing collaborative network concept in which we combined multiple project management methodology and fractal model of collaborative network of enterprises. The proposed framework enables SME-s to use resources more efficiently, reduce manufacturing costs, rapidly respond to customer demand changes, increase the productivity, reduce total lead time of collaborative projects, improve the products quality, improve the practice of collaboration in multi-project management, improve stability, share the expensive costs and equipment, reduce inventory, raise the accuracy of the forecast, reduce the data entry time, and improve the performance of delivery. In this paper, we will present the project-based fractal collaborative network framework, multiple project management and fractal model framework. We will introduce our vision of information and communication processes in the novel collaborative network, tasks and relationships of collaborative enterprises project managers, external and internal relationships of project managers.

The aim of this paper is to identify the role of projects in the development of innovative company on the example of selected innovative enterprises from Lower Silesia. The enterprise selected for the research was the Samorządowy Informator SMS Sp. z o.o., which provides five main e-services. Each of those was designed basing on project management methodology and is a response for the market needs. The article presents the development of selected e-services and the enterprise development that could be reached through these e-services. Orientation for projects is one of the pillars to implement company’s strategy. The analysis of the enterprise indicates that ability to create e-services as well as effective project portfolio management helps in company’s development on a competitive market.

Strategy determines long-term objectives of enterprise, which correspond to the main directions of operation and presents the allocation of resources to meet those objectives. Strategy is being implemented through the regular operation and strategic projects created for increasing the operational effectiveness, competitiveness and business efficiency. Conditions of implementing those strategic activities, as a key actions for a long term company success, should be taken into the detailed investigation. Considering the above, the paper’s goal was to analyze the impact of potential barriers of strategic projects implementation that constitute the strategic management processes in Polish companies. The survey was completed in 2016. The CATI method was used to obtain the information. The survey covered 168 small, medium and large enterprises representing services, industry and construction, agriculture, fisheries and forestry. Following results are addressed both to professionals and scientists in field of strategic management and project management.

The authors draw attention to the fact that the initial enthusiasm and uncritical assessment of projects, as an antidote to the bureaucracy of the public sector, may be premature. Projectifi cation causes a number of changes that are not always positive and also further limit the activities of public organizations.

W artykule można znaleźć odniesienie do komercyjnych rozwiązań z dziedziny zarządzania projektami. Artykuł przede wszystkim prezentuje opis oprogramowania opracowanego dla projektów prowadzonych według metodyki Scrum. W artykule autorzy odnoszą się do rozwiązań komer-cyjnych wykazując zalety opracowanego rozwiązania. Przedstawiona aplikacja webowa zawiera w sobie funkcjonalności, które ułatwiają pracę zarówno stronie zarządzającej, jak i stronie odpowiedzialnej za rozwój projektu. Oprogramowanie jak i sama metodyka opracowane zostały głownie dla projektów informatycznych, jednak nie przeszkadza to w użyciu ich w innych sektorach. Autorzy w artykule prezentuje podstawowe zasady panujące w projektach prowadzonych według metodyki Scrum, a następnie pokazują jak zostały one zaimplementowane w formie aplikacji webowej. Aplikacja zawiera funkcjonalności, które znacznie podnoszą efektywność pracy według metodyki Scrum. Artykuł w szczególności adresowany jest do osób zajmujących się zarządzaniem projektami, w szczególności wg. wymienionej metodologii.

The aim of the study is to present and describe a possible interaction between currently en vogue economic spheres - project management and marketing. On the basis of the research carried out, the authors identify key elements of marketing instrumentary which might be applied by project planning and implementation within a developing region of the Slovak republic. The method was analysed in practice for a chosen type of a project related to life-long learning education which was implemented in the Presov self-governing region. The article is one of the outcomes of the research project Research on determinants and activating elements accelerating regional development and proposal for an informed model aimed at increasing competitiveness of the region with the support of a specific marketing instrumentary registered at the Grant Agency of the Slovak Republic, filed under 1/4638/07 and at the Centre of excellence CEVKOG.
Celem pracy jest przedstawienie i opisanie możliwych interakcji pomiędzy bieżącymi sferami ekonomicznymi - zarządzanie projektem i marketing. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań autorzy zidentyfikowali kluczowe elementy instrumentarium marketingu, które mogą być stosowane przy planowaniu i realizacji projektów w rozwijającym się regionie Republiki Słowackiej. Metoda została przeanalizowana w praktyce dla wybranego typu projektu związanego z kształceniem ustawicznym, które zostało wdrożone w regionie samorządowym Presov. Artykuł jest jednym z rezultatów projektu badawczego Badań czynników i elementów aktywacji przyspieszenia rozwoju regionalnego oraz propozycji dotyczącej świadomego modelowania w celu zwiększenia konkurencyjności regionu przy pomocy specjalnego instrumentarium marketingu, zarejestrowana w Grant Agencja Republiki Słowackiej, złożony w ramach 1/4638/07 oraz w Centrum doskonalenia CEVKOG.

Aim/purpose – This research presents a conceptual stakeholder accountability model for mapping the project actors to the conduct for which they should be held accountable in artificial intelligence (AI) projects. AI projects differ from other projects in important ways, including in their capacity to inflict harm and impact human and civil rights on a global scale. The in-project decisions are high stakes, and it is critical who decides the system’s features. Even well-designed AI systems can be deployed in ways that harm individuals, local communities, and society. Design/methodology/approach – The present study uses a systematic literature review, accountability theory, and AI success factors to elaborate on the relationships between AI project actors and stakeholders. The literature review follows the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) statement process. Bovens’ accountability model and AI success factors are employed as a basis for the coding framework in the thematic analysis. The study uses a web-based survey to collect data from respondents in the United States and Germany employing statistical analysis to assess public opinion on AI fairness, sustainability, and accountability. Findings – The AI stakeholder accountability model specifies the complex relationships between 16 actors and 22 stakeholder forums using 78 AI success factors to define the conduct and the obligations and consequences that characterize those relationships. The survey analysis suggests that more than 80% of the public thinks AI development should be fair and sustainable, and it sees the government and development organizations as most accountable in this regard. There are some differences between the United States and Germany regarding fairness, sustainability, and accountability. Research implications/limitations – The results should benefit project managers and project sponsors in stakeholder identification and resource assignment. The definitions offer policy advisors insights for updating AI governance practices. The model presented here is conceptual and has not been validated using real-world projects. Originality/value/contribution – The study adds context-specific information on AI to the project management literature. It defines project actors as moral agents and provides a model for mapping the accountability of project actors to stakeholder expectations and system impacts.

Laslau Mare is a mature gas field in Transylvania Basin. The field exploitation began in 1975 and has been operated since then by Romgaz. In 2004 Romgaz entered into an Association agreement with Schlumberger to rehabilitate Laslau Mare field. Association’s main goals for project rehabilitation has been maximization of field potential by increasing gas production and reservoir ultimate recovery factor. The incremental production, defined as the additional gas volume obtained above a production baseline negotiated at project inception is the key objective of Association. According to Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) framework from the Project Management Institute (PMI), the project management breaks in processes groups, knowledge area and professional and social responsibility all of them being integrated in a system approach. This paper examines key aspects of the project management system processes, adapted to the oil and gas industry and implemented in our project to meet and exceed project goals.

Przeprowadzona analiza skłania do stwierdzenia, że zwiększanie dojrzałości projektowej może stanowić istotne wsparcie dla tworzenia ładu projektowego w organizacjach. Tym samym wpłynąć na lepsze zrozumienie problematyki działalności projektowej, rozwój kompetencji projektowych oraz zwiększenie spójności prowadzonej działalności projektowej. Wyciągnięte wnioski bazują na wynikach badania ankietowego na próbie 93 organizacji non-profit funkcjonujących w Polsce.
The article is concerned with matters of project management maturity and project governance. Theoretical and empirical considerations are related to non-profit organizations operating in Poland. Project governance in non-profit organizations is a new research area. Deepening research into this issue can significantly contribute to the effectiveness of projects. The analysis conducted leads to the conclusion that increasing project management maturity can provide significant support for the creation of project governance. Thus, it may influence a better understanding of project activities, the development of project competences and an increase in the consistency of project activities. The conclusions drawn are based on a survey of a sample of 93 non-profit organizations operating in Poland.

The aim of the paper is entering the discussion concerning the sources of competitive advantage in project management in basic local government units in Poland. The focus of the paper is placed on the selected elements of the sources of competitive advantage in basic local government units in Poland, namely tasks implemented in projects. The paper consists of two main parts. In the first part of the paper, a starting point was the presentation of the essence of competitiveness and competitive advantage in the process of project management from the perspective of local government units in Poland. In the second one, the results of the research proceedings concerning the importance of tasks implemented in projects in projects in basic local government units in Poland were discussed. The considerations presented in the paper refer to the results of the research proceedings, which took place in two stages. The first stage of the studies was conducted in 2013 and it concerned the years 2010-2012, the second stage – in 2018, and it concerned the years 2016-2018.
Celem artykułu jest włączenie się w dyskusję dotyczącą źródeł przewagi konkurencyjnej w zarządzaniu projektami w podstawowych jednostkach samorządu terytorialnego w Polsce. W artykule skoncentrowano uwagę na wybranych elementach źródeł przewagi konkurencyjnej w podstawowych jednostkach samorządu terytorialnego w Polsce do jakich należą zadania realizowane w projektach. Artykuł składa się z dwóch zasadniczych części. W pierwszej części artykułu punktem wyjścia uczyniono przedstawienie istoty konkurencyjności i przewagi konkurencyjnej w procesie zarządzania projektami z perspektywy jednostek samorządu terytorialnego w Polsce. Natomiast w drugiej omówiono wyniki postępowania badawczego nad znaczeniem zadań realizowanych w projektach w podstawowych jednostkach samorządu terytorialnego w Polsce. Przedstawione w artykule rozważania odnoszą się do wyników przeprowadzonego postępowania badawczego, które przeprowadzone zostało w dwóch etapach. Pierwszą część badań przeprowadzono w 2013 roku i obejmowała ona lata 2010-2012, drugi etap badań zrealizowano w 2018 roku uwzględniając lata 2016-2018.

This article considers the important role of digital communication in interdisciplinary projects. This paper describes the experience of interdisciplinary project teams and points to the consequences of the choice of communication channels and tools influencing project deliverables within those teams. The first section of this paper considers the influence of digital transformation on project management. The second section describes key project success factors concerning all types of projects and concludes that communication is one of important factors. The third section briefly defines interdisciplinary projects: SQUAD and BIM. This section also describes the communication methods and techniques that were used within these projects. Celem opracowania jest prezentacja roli pełnionej przez jednostki wspierające zarządzanie projektami w uczelniach publicznych. Dążąc do realizacji tak postawionego celu, wykorzystano metody analizy źródeł literaturowych i danych statystycznych udostępnionych w bazie KSI SIMIK 07-13 oraz badanie ankietowe. W artykule przedstawiono projekty unijne jako istotny element kształtowania rozwoju publicznych uczelni technicznych w Polsce. Następnie omówiono w nim główne zadania jednostek wspierających zarządzanie projektami. Zaprezentowano także analizę danych uzyskanych w trakcie badania ankietowego dotyczącego zarządzania projektami unijnymi w publicznych uczelniach technicznych w Polsce. Respondentami byli kierownicy projektów unijnych realizowanych przez publiczne uczelnie techniczne w perspektywie finansowej 2007-2013. W wyniku przeprowadzonych analiz wskazano na istotną rolę jednostek wspierających zarządzanie projektami w publicznych uczelniach technicznych w Polsce.
The aim of the study is to present the role played by units supporting project management at public universities. In pursuit of this objective, methods of analyzing sources and statistical data provided in the KSI SIMIK 07-13 database and the questionnaire survey have been used. The article presents EU projects as an important element of shaping the development of public technical universities in Poland. Then it discusses the main tasks of individuals supporting project management. The final part of the text presents an analysis of data obtained during the survey on the management of EU projects in public technical universities in Poland. Respondents were managers of EU projects implemented by public technical universities in the financial perspective 2007-2013. As a result of the analyzes, the role of units supporting project management in public technical universities in Poland was pointed out.

The article analyses literary sources that describe non-traditional methods of project management that can be applied to projects protecting people and territories from emergency situations in the constantly changing environment. Presented are the main features of projects for protecting people and territories from emergency situations. Two types of flexible and extreme project management, which is best suited for such projects, are considered. The definition and main features of flexible project management are presented, as well as the basic principles and methods of flexible control, such as: Scrum, Lean, Extreme Programming (data as of 2018), with the main advantages and disadvantages shown. The positive and negative aspects of extreme management are analyzed, too. The use of these techniques will be effective if the project is in an environment of uncertainty and has no limited resources. In practice the implementation of such approaches in the projects for the protection of population and territories from emergency situations will have a positive effect, provided that all performers will share the principles of flexible management. The possibility of avoiding financial constraints on the implementation of such projects has been shown.
W artykule dokonano analizy literatury opisującej metody zarządzania projektami, które mogą być zastosowane do projektów ochrony osób i terytoriów przed sytuacjami kryzysowymi. Przedstawiono główne cechy projektów ochrony ludności i terytoriów będących lub mogących być w kryzysie. Rozważono dwa rodzaje elastycznego i ekstremalnego zarządzania projektami, które najlepiej sprawdzają się w tego typu projektach. Przedstawiono definicję i główne cechy elastycznego zarządzania projektami. Ponadto omówiono podstawowe zasady i metody elastycznego sterowania, takie jak: Scrum, Lean, Extreme Programming. Podano statystyki za rok 2018 dotyczące wykorzystania tych metod przez kierowników projektów. Określono główne zalety i wady tego typu zarządzania. Zaproponowano definicję i zakres ekstremalnego zarządzania projektami oraz wskazano pozytywne i negatywne aspekty tego podejścia. W wyniku przeprowadzonych badań ustalono, że stosowanie tych technik będzie skuteczne, jeśli projekt znajduje się w środowisku niepewności i nie ma ograniczonych zasobów. W praktyce zastosowanie takich podejść w projektach ochrony ludności i terytoriów przed sytuacjami kryzysowymi będzie miało pozytywny efekt pod warunkiem, że wszyscy wykonawcy będą podzielać zasady elastycznego zarządzania.

Purpose: The dynamic economic changes in recent years have made the principles of sustainable development gain more and more importance and there is a great need to maintain a balance in the social, environmental, and economic dimensions. This has also been observed in project management, whereby the concept of sustainable project management plays an important role in both practice and science. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in scientific publications on the concept of sustainable project management. The article presents the assumptions of sustainability in a project and the identification of research directions in this area. The study aims to present the results of the literature review and answer the two research questions: which research areas related to sustainable project management dominate the literature and what are the further research directions in the field of sustainable project management? Design/methodology/approach: The study was conducted based on a literature review in the field of sustainable project management and sustainability in project management. Scientific articles indexed in the Scopus database, published before 2022, were used. A keyword analysis was carried out, on the basis of which subject areas related to sustainable project management were distinguished, and the most cited articles were reviewed to extract recommendations for the directions of future research. Findings: The literature review, taking into account sustainable project management, show that project lifecycle, project success, and risk management are dominated research topic in the articles. Further research directions suggested in the literature indicate, inter alia, to extend the scope of research on sustainable project management to different countries and sectors. Originality/value: The literature review is based on the most recent publications. Moreover, in addition to the traditional literature review, keywords were analyzed and other research directions were analyzed, which was rarely seen in publications that focused mainly on the synthesis of conclusions.

Agile methods for project management are often treated as methods for mitigating risk. However, there is disagreement as to whether explicit methods of risk management should be used in projects which are executed according to Agile methodology or is the implicit risk management built into Agile methodologies sufficient. To contribute to the discussion, an attempt has been made to identify risks that are either caused by the introduction of an Agile methodology to a project or become more significant when such methodology is in use. If such risks exist, this would be evidence that explicit risk management is required, even in the case of Agile methodologies. The results of this research may be useful for any organization that is in the process of selecting a methodology for project management and is considering Agile methodologies.

Identification of key success factors is of significant importance for the smooth management of projects and this phenomenon has been explored by numerous studies. However, a cognitive gap remains regarding the strength of the relationship between key success factors and the level of project maturity. The aim of the article is to identify key success factors in project management in the basic units of local government in Poland and to verify the extent to which these factors depend on the degree of project maturity of the organization. The article is based on the assumption that a link between project maturity and key success factors in project management exists. The starting point of the study was the specificity of project maturity of an organisation from the perspective of project management excellence. The relationship between these factors and levels of project maturity of the surveyed units was verified, which allowed to identify factors having a significant impact on the level of excellence in project management in the organisation. Research covered 1,900 basic local government units in Poland. The article presents research results in dynamic terms covering two periods, 2010–2012 and 2016–2018. The research procedure was based on a standardized questionnaire with unit scale responses, and brought quantitative results that would allow drawing general conclusions and findings.
Identyfikacja kluczowych czynników sukcesu ma istotne znaczenie dla sprawnego przebiegu zarządzania projektami, a zjawisko to stanowi przedmiot licznych badań. Jednakże wciąż istnieje luka poznawcza odnosząca się do siły związku kluczowych czynników sukcesu z poziomem dojrzałości projektowej. Celem artykułu uczyniono identyfikację kluczowych czynników sukcesu w zarządzaniu projektami w podstawowych jednostkach samorządu terytorialnego w Polsce oraz określenie zależności tych czynników z poziomem dojrzałości projektowej organizacji. U podstaw niniejszego artykułu leży założenie o istnieniu związku pomiędzy dojrzałością projektową a kluczowymi czynnikami sukcesu w zarządzaniu projektami. Punktem wyjścia w badaniu uczyniono specyfikę dojrzałości projektowej organizacji z perspektywy doskonałości zarządzania projektami. Relacje pomiędzy tymi czynnikami a poziomami dojrzałości projektowej badanych jednostek poddano weryfikacji, co pozwoliło wyznaczyć czynniki mające istotny wpływ na poziom doskonałości w zarządzaniu projektami w organizacji. Badaniami zasadniczymi objęto 1900 podstawowych jednostek samorządu terytorialnego w Polsce. W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań w ujęciu dynamicznym obejmujące lata 2010–2012 oraz 2016–2018. Postępowanie badawcze oparte na ustandaryzowanym kwestionariuszu ankietowym z wyskalowanymi odpowiedziami pozwoliło na uzyskanie kwantytatywnych wyników, umożliwiających wyprowadzenie ogólnych wniosków i konkluzji.

In recent years we have observed the global awareness of threats posed by unrestrained and irresponsible growth gaining ground. Hence, continuous searches for sustainable solutions which enable to put in place measures that promote global, national, and local efficiency seem to make sense.This paper aims to examine and assess the current state of affairs and proposes directions for the development of sustainable and socially responsible project-related activities. It explains how the idea of social responsibility emerged as a natural consequence of the evolution of an organisation with respect to sustainable development. Against the background of these notions we define the place and role of project management in socially responsible development and discuss different views on the subject presented by authors from different countries. Theoretical considerations are supplemented with the discussion of the findings of own surveys focused on the role and relevance of social responsibility in project management in organisations active in this field in Poland. It was an exploratory study, the first of its kind in Poland.

Purpose: The main objectives of the paper are to explain the importance of project governance for the management of projects in an organization and to indicate its place in the Organizational Project Management (OPM). Design/methodology/approach: Narrative literature review. Analysis of the publications from influential databases was conducted, that led to formulation of general conclusions and field for further studies. Findings: Internal project governance should fulfil four basic functions: regulatory, defining strategy, control and management support, as well as be a mandatory part of OPM. Practical implications: Project-based organizations should focus their project governance on value creation by supporting management process on 4P levels. Practitioners cannot treat project governance as just a control system. Originality/value: Fundamental issues were related to presentation of internal and external project governance, with their scope and features, description of relations between project governance and OPM, as well as formulation of various questions that highlight potential further fields of research.

Turnera i R. Müllera. Proces badawczy oparto na studiach literaturowych i badaniach własnych. W artykule dokonano analizy dotychczasowego dorobku poświęconego analizowanej tematyce. Wyniki badań empirycznych wskazują, że preferowanym przez większość wykonawców prac w projektach jest styl demokratyczny. Natomiast w praktyce zarządzania projektami, wykonawcy ci wskazują na stosowanie przez kierowników stylu demokratycznego oraz stylu autokratycznego. Zarówno preferencje respondentów, jak i praktyka nie są zbieżne z ujęciem modelowym.
The aim of the article is to present the relationship between the practice of managing project teams and preferences of team members in this area and a model approach to management styles in particular project phases, based on the concept of J.R. Turner and R. Müller. The research process was based on literature studies and empirical research. The Authors evaluated current achievements regarding to the topic analyzed. The results of empirical research indicate that the most preferred leadership style is the democratic one. On the other hand, in the practice of project management, project teams’ members point out the use of democratic style and autocratic style. Both the respondents’ preferences and the practice are not coherent with the model approach.

Portale crowdfundingowe oferują szeroki pakiet narzędzi umożliwiających finansowanie oraz prowadzenie małych projektów za pośrednictwem Internetu. Celem artykułu jest wykazanie w jakim stopniu narzędzia oferowane przez portale crowdfundingowe mogą wspomagać zarządzanie projektem uruchomienia nowego produktu lub usługi. Artykuł ma również zweryfikować poziom wiedzy menedżerów przedsięwzięć crowdfundingowych z zakresu zarządzania projektami. Metodyka badawcza objęła arkusz ankiety skierowany do kierowników projektów w wybranych trzech polskich portalach crowdfundingowych.
Crowdfunding platforms offer a wide range of tools to finance and run small projects over the Internet. The purpose of this article is to study by what extent the tools offered by crowdfunding portals can assist project management to launch a new product or service. The article will also verify the level of project management knowledge of crowdfunding project managers. The research methodology included a questionnaire addressed to project managers in selected three Polish crowdfunding platforms.

W artykule rozpatrzony jest system bezpieczeństwa przedsiębiorstwa przemysłowego. Pokazana jest konieczność stosowania zarządzania projektowego w celu osiągnięcia pożądanego poziomu bezpieczeństwa. Autorzy proponują realizować przedsięwzięcia z ochrony pracy jako projekty. Aktualne jest pytanie dotyczące wyboru stosownego projektu. Czas jego początku lub inicjowanie wyznacza się na podstawie oceny potocznego stanu bezpieczeństwa przedsiębiorstwa. Wykorzystana jest metoda Mamdani’ego w celu utworzenia niewyraźnego wniosku o konieczności i inicjowania projektów zapewnienia bezpieczeństwa przedsiębiorstwa przemysłowego.

Skuteczne zarządzanie projektem jest uzależnione od kontekstu, w którym projekt jest realizowany. Aby wykorzystać potencjał otoczenia projektu, zespół zarządzający powinien zrozumieć to otoczenie oraz nim efektywnie zarządzać. Podejście kontekstowe w zarządzaniu projektami może być rozważane na poziomie pojedynczego projektu i będzie wtedy związane z procesem uwzględniania w projekcie uwarunkowań wynikających z jego otoczenia, ale także na poziomie systemowym, czyli całej organizacji i będzie wtedy oznaczać umiejętność dopasowania stosowanych technik, metod i narzędzi zarządzania projektami do poziomu dojrzałości projektowej organizacji.
Successful project management depends on the environment in which the project is implemented. To utilize the opportunities given by the project environment project management team should understand this environment and manage them effec-tively. Contextual approach in project management can be considered at the project level and then it can be connected with the process of taking into account the contextual conditions in project implementation. It can be also seen as the organization’s ability to adjust the project management techniques, methods and tools to the level of project management maturity (systemic level).

A project is a temporary endeavour designed to produce a unique product, service or result, with a defined beginning and end (usually constrained by time, funding or deliverables), which is undertaken to meet unique goals and objectives, typically to bring about beneficial change or added value. Space projects involve a complex process and usually take many years to be developed. The development of complex project requires the cooperation of several organizations, which share a common goal: namely, to create a product that satisfies the consumer’s needs (technical performance) within cost and schedule constraints. To reach this goal, corresponding technical activities, as well as human and financial resources, need to be organized and coordinated in a well-organized manner. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify the importance of project knowledge management in local government organisations in Poland. Design/methodology/approach: The analysis carried out for this paper included a literature analysis, survey research and analysis of the research results. The hypotheses set for the research were verified using statistical methods on the basis of the collected data from a questionnaire survey addressed to randomly selected district offices and town halls in Poland. Findings: Based on the literature review, the paper confirms the relevance of knowledge management and project knowledge management in the activities and development of organisations. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that local government organisations in Poland manage project knowledge because they are aware of its importance in effective project management. Originality/value: Project knowledge management is not only important in companies, but also in local government organisations for effective project management. Collecting and documenting project knowledge and experiences from projects helps to reduce errors during subsequent projects.

Purpose: The goal of the study was to examine project managers ability to apply different styles of leadership depending on the project situation. Design/methodology/approach: LEAD-Self questionnaires were used as the main research tool, which is based on the Model of Situational Leadership by P. Hersey and K. Blanchard. The tests were carried out in 12 production plants located in Poland, Italy, Spain, Turkey and China. The plants produce parts for household appliances, automotive and HVAC industries as well as intelligent power grids. 45 project managers participated in the study. Findings: Research results indicate that project managers have a wide range of styles, yet their adaptability is low and moderate level. None of the surveyed project managers has a high level of adaptation. This means that the project managers participating in the study use only the basic leadership style and only occasionally use supporting styles. Practical implications: Implications for organizations and project managers are given in the publication. The most important of them is training project managers in the field of situational leadership model and making managers aware of the strengths and weaknesses of each style, so that they are able to adapt them to the situation and to be ready to act by individual team members. Originality/value: The publication refers to the issue of situational leadership in the context of project management, which broadens the knowledge of human resource management in project management, and highlights the importance of adapting the leadership style of a project manager to a specific situation. The publication can be valuable for organizations implementing industrial projects and for project managers themselves.

Project management (PM) involves decision-making processes related to reaching project goals, resources allocation, timelines, intended outputs, outcomes, long-term impacts, etc. Decisions create challenges for those involved in leading and managing projects, such as information overload, time constraints, uncertainty, and biases. Decision-making in PM is especially supported by risk analysis focused on the identification and assessment of factors that could affect (positively or negatively) a successful project delivery. Uncertainty in estimating project risks is considered one of the major challenges in Management Science. The paper draws attention to the root cause of uncertainty in human reasoning in relation to decision-making processes with particular emphasis on risk analysis. A literature review revealed that the area of risk assessment in PM has been dominated by qualitative methods that do not take uncertainty into account. Therefore, the main objective of this paper was to apply the Dempster–Shafer theory (DST), which provides a framework for representing uncertainties by allowing beliefs to not be assigned to a specific subset. Accordingly, the applied research design was employed in this study. The re-search sample included 60 experts that assessed project risks. In order to determine the belief (Bel) and plausibility (Pl) functions, all the evidence was combined using Dempster’s rule of combination, in order to arrive at quantified beliefs. The final results of the study showed that this evidence-based framework for project risk assessment is applicable and easy to use, even for a large number of experts and could support PM practitioners in risk management and decision-making.
