Contrary to the predictions that the informal sector in developing countries, particularly Africa is marginal and exhibits tendency to disappear as most of these nations’ experienced satisfactory level of economic development. The informal sector has not only increased in intensity, it has grown to dominate economic activities in Africa countries. The purpose of this paper is to examine the epistemic reflections of the traditional view of the informal sector in developing countries vis-à-vis evidence of the failure of its transient predictions in Africa. To achieve the objectives of this paper, systematic review of literature on these issues were presented and discussed. The paper revealed that the growth of the informal sector has occurred in connection with declining competitiveness and productivity performance in Africa resulting to rising economic depression, growing unemployment and poverty level among others. Additionally, the informal sector has been generally neglected and has suffered severe discrimination in a number of important dimensions; hence, there is growing neglect and political will to propel the transition of the informal sector into formal economy. Against the aforementioned backdrops, the paper concluded that though, the informal sector is neglected, it has however, come to be a key components of the Africa economy. Similarly, against the apparent economic challenges presently ravaging most Africa countries, the informal sector will continue to gain popularity. On this note, the paper recommended the need to promote equitable linkages between the informal and the formal sector through appropriate inclusive policy framework with a view of increasing the wider development implications of the informal sector initiatives, as well as the political and institutional barriers that impede its activities and growth.

In the systemic approach, a production company is a complex system of objects and relations between the objects, as well as between the system and its surroundings. The large number of variables and company performance assessment indicators result in the constant search for the methods of formalising the mutual dependencies. The discipline which, through the integration of multiple processes, enables the discovery of practical solutions is logistics engineering. In Poland, the term is not very common, while in the USA (for example), logistics engineering – taking advantage of mathematical methods and cutting edge science, is a widely used tool supporting the everyday business activities of companies. The article describes primary tasks of logistics engineering in relation to production companies. Furthermore, original algorithms for the improvements of company productivity are presented.

Purpose: Analyzing value created by marketing should cover at least two important points of view. The first is related to the problem of value created by marketing for customers, and the second is related to the value created for the organization (enterprise). This article is focused on the second point of view. Each organization formulates some expectations toward marketing, and next evaluates the results of using marketing in a more or less systematic way. The purpose of the article is to establish a theoretical model of this evaluation using three dimensions: marketing effectiveness, marketing efficiency and marketing productivity. Methodology: This study was of a conceptual character. Findings: In presented concept, the expectations toward marketing and value created by marketing are expressed by marketing performance. In turn, marketing performance can be perceived in the three dimensions of marketing effectiveness, marketing efficiency and marketing productivity Originality: The problem of value created by marketing for the organization (enterprise) isn’t too often analyzed in the literature. Existing literature offers an analysis all these dimensions but in most cases in separate way or with some important inconsequences.

The current research was aimed at exploring the relation of managers' ability in performing managerial three-fold roles with staffs' productivity by considering the moderating role of managers' personality characteristics within Shiraz's Social Security Branches. The methodology is descriptive and falls under correlative type researches. The statistical population of this research consists of staffs at the Social Security Organization in the city of Shiraz who amounted to 367 people as well as managers of Social Security Branches who numbered 50 people. By using Krejesi and Morgan Table and via simple sampling method, the number of 186 staffs and 45 managers was selected. In this research, tools for gathering data involved inventories and three questionnaires were applied where the reliability of the questionnaires was measured based on Cronbach's alpha coefficients. Cronbach's alpha value for the Managers' Personality Traits Inventory was 0/73, Managerial Roles Inventory, 0/79, and Staffs; Productivity Inventory 0/87. Data were analyzed via using PLS software, the path analysis research model and by using SPSS software as well as Pearson tests paired T, Wilcoxon and Man Whitney. Results pertaining to path analysis research model suggested that Managers' Personality Traits modified the relation between managerial roles with staffs' productivity in a positive way. Also, data analysis results illustrated that there was a significant relationship between the ability to conduct threefold managerial roles (decision making, information and communications roles) and staffs' productivity. Also, ability in performing threefold managerial roles did have the capacity to predict staffs' productivity. Therefore, all research hypotheses were confirmed.

Satellite-based irrigation performance is a valuable tool for improving yields in irrigated areas across the world and requires adequate land for long-term development. This study aimed to increase irrigation performance and yield gap variation of rainfed crops using the database of FAO’s Water Productivity Open Access Portal (WaPOR) and the Global Yield Gap Atlas. The evapotranspiration (ET) performance of irrigation is expressed in equity (CV of ET), reliability, adequacy (CV of ET), and water productivity (kg∙m-3). The rainfed crops are interpreted in terms of metric tonnes/ha. Specifically, 20,325 km2 of suitable pastoral land across eight sub-classes was converted to rainfed rice, sugarcane, maize, and vegetable crops. Results showed that the R2 value was 0.97 at Baro Itang and -0.99 at Sor Metu, with the Baro Gambella sub-catchment having the largest yield gap of 4.435.2, 8.870.4, and 10.080∙106 kg when the yield increased by 1/3, 2/3, and 3/4. On the other hand, Gumero Gore had the smallest yield gap of 10,690, 29,700, and 33,750 kg, respectively. The management regime was 2.87, 0.87, and 0.35 kg∙m-3 for growers in the estate, farmer association, and individual, respectively. The study concludes that no single irrigation technique can be considered the best, and a thorough analysis of spatiotemporal variation of the irrigation performance indicators and the yield gap in the water-scarce lower Baro watershed is required.

The introduction of High Productivity Vehicles (HPVs) in Australia, through the Performance Based Standards (PBS) scheme, was predicated on new mechanical engineering standards that were mandated especially for these new vehicles. These standards improved vehicle stability, general performance and safety, especially safety. Two national surveys showed both massive safety and productivity benefits compared to conventional Australian road freight fleets. The first Australian PBS vehicles operated under permits from 1997 but the formalized Australian scheme was implemented in 2006. So arguably the introduction of HPVs under permit and now under a formal regulatory PBS framework has allowed some 20 years of research observations. However, only one major type of single rigid, high productivity truck, without a trailer, has been active in an urban environment as a pilot, over that time. This paper examines this special urban High Productivity Vehicle which could be exceptionally useful for the urban freight task in many countries should they ever adopt it.

Although the Australian road freight transport industry has seen three mass limits reviews in the mid 1970s, the mid 1980s and in the late 1990s, (Hassall, 2005), there were two very significant truck configuration changes that happened in the mid 1980s and then again in the early 2000s. The first was the trials of a variant of the Canadian B-train (the B-Double) which was introduced into Australia in the mid 1980s. This ‘Australian’ B-Double could achieve payloads some 30% to 40% higher than the conventional ‘semi trailer’ articulated combination. By 2016 some 18,900 of these vehicles were operational in Australia. The second adoption of new vehicle configurations started in 1999 through the National Road Transport Commission (NRTC), who adopted, and further developed, another Canadian concept, that of “Performance Based Standards” (PBS). This effectively allowed for new, flexible truck designs, as long as the vehicles performed against a set of 17 specific technical engineering performance criteria. This Performance Based Standards approach, since 1998, also allowed even larger configurations to B-Doubles to be used by operators. The benefits of these new configurations have already delivered billions of dollars in kilometre savings to the road freight industry and to its customers, as well as very significant safety benefits to the community.

This paper presents the results of studies of the relationship between level of advancement of IT solutions used in Polish enterprises of food processing and the company's financial situation, logistic costs, position on the market against the sector, and quality of IT support of logistics. The results showed no significant correlation between IT solutions advancement level and financial situation, and logistic costs. These results corresponds with the productivity paradox signaled in the literature. However, there was an average correlations between the IT solutions advancement level and position on the market against the sector, and quality of IT support of logistics. The studies used the results of a survey conducted in 2009-2011 among Polish food processing sector enterprises.

The aim of the study was the analysis of the condition of goat breeding and husbandry in the Kujawy-Pomerania Province and in country. The results concerning milk and reproduction performance of goats from this region can be used for working out a regional breeding programme. The following was taken into account in this study: the number ofWhite and Coloured Improved goats covered by the performance recording, number of goats entered in the flockbooks, milk performance results for the Kujawy-Pomerania Province as well as for Poland for the years 1996–2009, using the information published by the Central Animal Breeding Station and the documentation of the RegionalAssociation of Sheep and Goats Breeders in Bydgoszcz. The number of flocks of White Improved goats covered by the performance recording in our country decreased from 170 in 1996 to 0 in 2009. A similar downward tendency was observed for the number of goats under milk recording. In the Kujawy-Pomerania Province, the number of goats under milk recording increased from 45 in 1996 to 289 in 2007, and fell to zero from 2008. Analysing the population of Coloured Improved goats, it turned out that, on average, in the whole country, the number of flocks of this breed increased from 17 in 1997 to 23 in 2004, and then decreased to 1 flock in 2009. Similarly, the number of goats under milk recording increased from 175 in 1997 to 917 in 2004 and then fell to 22 in 2009. In the analysed period, the extension of lactations, increased yields of milk, fat and protein and similar contents of these components in milk were found inWhite and Coloured Improved goats.
Celem pracy była analiza stanu hodowli i chowu kóz na terenie woj. kujawsko- -pomorskiego i kraju. Wyniki dotyczące użytkowości mlecznej i rozpłodowej kóz z tego rejonu mogą być wykorzystane w opracowaniu programu hodowlanego regionalnego. W pracy uwzględniono: stan liczbowy kóz ras białej i barwnej uszlachetnionej objętych kontrolą użytkowości, liczbę kóz wpisanych do ksiąg zarodowych, wyniki użytkowości rozpłodowej i mlecznej na terenie województwa kujawsko-pomorskiego, jak również w Polsce w latach 1996–2008, korzystając z informacji opublikowanych przez Centralną Stację Hodowli Zwierząt oraz z dokumentacji Regionalnego Związku Hodowców Owiec i Kóz w Bydgoszczy. Liczba stad kóz rasy białej uszlachetnionej objętych oceną użytkowości na terenie kraju zmniejszyła się ze 170 w 1996 roku do czterech w 2008 roku. Podobną tendencję spadkową zaobserwowano w liczbie kóz będących pod oceną mleczności. W województwie kujawsko-pomorskim liczba kóz pod oceną mleczności wzrosła z 45 osobników w 1996 roku do 289 w 2007 roku, a kozy wpisane do ksiąg zwierząt zarodowych stanowiły ok. 98% kóz ocenianych. Analizując pogłowie kóz rasy barwnej uszlachetnionej okazało się, że średnio w całym kraju nastąpił wzrost liczby stad tej rasy z 17 w 1997 roku do 23 w 2004 roku, a następnie spadek do pięciu stad w 2008 roku, podobnie w liczbie kóz pod oceną mleczności ze 175 osobników w 1997 roku do 917 w 2004 i spadek do 134 w 2008. Podobnie jak w kraju, tak i na terenie Bydgoskiego Okręgu Hodowlanego zaobserwowano wzrost liczby kóz rasy barwnej uszlachetnionej z jednego stada w 1997 roku utrzymującego 17 kóz pod oceną mleczności do 2 stad o liczbie kóz 134 osobniki, z czego kozy wpisane do ksiąg zwierząt zarodowych stanowią ok. 95,5%.

Subject and purpose of work: The article compares cleaning services markets in Warsaw and Moscow. The productivity of work is the subject of the research, but not in the traditional neoclassical nterpretation, but within the institutional economy. The aim of the article is to show new ways of analyzing work productivity using institutional methodology. Materials and methods: The article uses a conventional method, which is a combination of institutional and neoclassical methodology. It covers sociological research tools and statistical methods of data processing used for quantitative analysis as part of the institutional approach. Results: Similar parameters of human capital indicators were obtained in the employees of both markets. The indicators of opportunism in the representatives of the employees of the Moscow market are much higher, which significantly reduces the quantitative values of the institutional work productivity in Eastern markets. Conclusions: In order to increase institutional work productivity in Eastern European markets (Russia) and to reduce opportunistic behavior of transaction participants, it is necessary to modernize institutional environment in these countries.
Przedmiot i cel pracy: Artykuł porównuje rynki usług porządkowych w Warszawie i Moskwie. Przedmiotem badań jest wydajność pracy, lecz nie w tradycyjnej interpretacji neoklasycznej, a w ramach gospodarki instytucjonalnej. Celem artykułu jest pokazanie nowych sposobów analizowania wydajności pracy za pomocą metodologii instytucjonalnej. Materiały i metody: W artykule zastosowano konwencjonalną metodę, która jest kombinacją metodologii instytucjonalnej i neoklasycznej. Obejmuje ona socjologiczne narzędzia badawcze i metody statystyczne przetwarzania danych wykorzystywane do analizy ilościowej w ramach podejścia instytucjonalnego. Wyniki: Uzyskano podobne parametry wskaźników kapitału ludzkiego u pracowników obu rynków. Wskaźniki oportunizmu u przedstawicieli pracowników rynku moskiewskiego są znacznie wyższe, co w znacznym stopniu obniża ilościowe wartości instytucjonalnej wydajności pracy na rynkach wschodnich. Wnioski: Aby zwiększyć instytucjonalną wydajność pracy na rynkach Europy Wschodniej (Rosja) oraz ograniczyć oportunistyczne zachowanie uczestników transakcji konieczne jest zmodernizowanie środowiska instytucjonalnego w tych państwach.

The participative standard with feedback condition was superior to the assigned difficult (140% of normal) standard with feedback condition in terms of worker productivity. The percentage increase in worker productivity with the participative standard and feedback condition was 46%, whereas the increase in the assigned difficult standard with feedback was 23%, compared to the control group (no standard, no feedback). Worker productivity also improved significantly as a result of assigning a normal (100%) production standard with feedback, compared to the control group, and the increase was 12%. The participative standard with feedback condition emerges as the optimum strategy for improving worker productivity in a repetitive industrial production task.

The influence of monetary incentives on the motivation of employees was considered in this article. A calculation of the interrelationship between monetary rewards and labour productivity was provided, as the most visible quantitative indicator of employee motivation. In the course of this research, the specific components of the overall payroll were examined, and their impact on the productivity of employees was determined. The results of the study indicated that extra pay, bonuses, and inducement pay had a positive linkage with labour productivity, whereas the basic wage level and indexation were not found to have a significant effect on motivation. It was considered important to establish the most suitable recommendations for managers, in terms of improving their system of financial rewards with the objective of enhancing the level of employee motivation.
Celem artykułu jest rozpatrzenie wpływu bodźców monetarnych na motywację pracowników. Przeprowadzono rozliczenie związku między bodźcami monetarnymy i wydajnością pracy, jako najbardziej oczywistym ilościowym wskaźnikiem motywacji pracowników. W pracy rozpatrzono elementy konstrukcyjne funduszu pracy, a także określono ich wpływ na wydajność pracy. Wyniki badania pokazały, że istnieje pozytywna korelacja między dopłatami, premią, nagrodami finansowymi i wydajnością pracy, w tym czasie jak istotnego wpływu pensji i ideksacji na motywację nie było stwierdzono. Uzasadniono odpowiednie rekomendacje dla menedżerów, co do doskonalenia systemu nagród finansowych w celu zwiększenia motywacji pracowników

Hospitals are the most important and costly component of the healthcare system. Therefore, hospital performance evaluation (HPE) is an important issue for the managers of these centres. This paper presents a new approach for HPE that can be used to calculate the efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity of hospitals simultaneously. Efficiency refers to the ratio of inputs and outputs, effectiveness refers to the extent to which outputs align with predetermined goals, and productivity refers to the sum of both efficiency and effectiveness. To this end, a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model is developed to simultaneously measure the efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity (DEA-EEP) of hospitals. DEA is a linear programming technique that in its traditional form, calculates the performance of similar decisionmaking units (DMUs) that have both inputs and outputs. In this study, the inputs are the number of health workers, the number of other staff, and the number of patient beds; while the outputs are the bed occupancy rate and the bed turnover rate. A target value is set for each output to measure the effectiveness of hospitals. The advantage of the developed model is the ability to provide a solution for non-productive units so that they can improve their performance by changing their inputs and outputs. In the case study, data of 11 hospitals in Tehran were evaluated for a 3-year period. Based on the results, some hospitals experienced an upward trend in the period, but the efficiency, effectiveness, and productivity scores of most hospitals fluctuated and did not have a growing trend. This indicates that although most hospitals sought to improve the quality of their services, they needed to take more serious steps.

Nakłady pracy na wykonanie procesów budowlanych są uniwersalną charakterystyką do planowania robót. Poprzez ich analizę określa się koszty pracy, zużycie czasu pracy zasobów, możliwości współpracy zasobów (współużytkowania zasobów w realizacji kilku zadań), niezbędny czas na wykonanie zadań, i inne istotne parametry analizy planistycznej. Możemy też prowadzić symulację realizacji przedsięwzięcia, bez lub z analizę ryzyka dotrzymania określonych terminów i kosztów. Zagadnienia te są przedmiotem niniejszej pracy. Proponowane techniki rozwiązywania problemów zostały podporządkowane dążeniu minimalizowania strat z tytułu niepełnego wykorzystania potencjału produkcyjnego zasobów czynnych.
Man or machine hours needed by various resources to complete construction works are the basis for work estimation and scheduling. In particular, they enable the planner to estimate labor costs or time needed to complete the task, review the resource of workload and availability of resources assigned to particular task, check the possibility of sharing resources across various tasks and determine other rates and factors useful in works scheduling. The project schedule can be analyzed both without or with and in consideration of risk of the end date of the project being pushed out or going over budget on the project. Issues presented above are the subject of this paper. The methods of solving described problems consider the optimization of a loss that derives from partial utilization of assigned the resources.
