Opis:
The creation of units with product specialization is assumed to be a general criterion in the design of production systems’ structure. In relation to the existing production structures, the general research of division, i.e. research on the possibility to deepen product specialization, is especially essential and useful as it preliminarily informs about the possibility of division into smaller production units (also with product specialization). For new systems, the possibility of dividing the whole set of items (predicted for production) and workplaces into product specialization units is being examined. Assessing the possibility of dividing existing grade I production units into smaller product specialized ones or a possibility to create new units from the beginning, may be achieved on the basis of the so called division susceptibility index.

Opis:
Appearance of flexible supply networks can be seen as a response to changes in global markets, being a step beyond the linear supply chain topography. However, when dealing with multiple organizations and multiple processes within a complicated network, identifying and locating a member that has responsibility and/or competence in a particular part of the network can be a laborious, time-consuming process. Knowledge sharing is aimed to assist in solving this problem. The approach presented is based on application of such technologies as ontology and context management, constraint satisfaction and profiling. Ontologies provide for semantic interoperability between flexible supply network members. Usage of the context makes it possible to consider current situation in order to provide for actual knowledge or information. Competence profiles of the supply network members facilitate knowledge sharing and simplify partner selection. They allow formalizing and sharing member's knowledge and competencies. Constraints are used for knowledge description. This enables usage of constraint solvers for finding solutions in various situations.

Opis:
Manufacturing engineering is supposed to provide analyses related to various aspects of manufacturing and production in order to maximise technological, energy, and economic gains in relevant production processes. The present paper gives a recapitulation of several publications by present authors, presenting considerations of the energy efficiency of biofuel production. The energy efficiency is understood as the ratio of energy obtained from biofuels produced basing on crops from a particular area to the energy required to satisfy needs of all subsidiary processes assuring correct functioning of the production system, starting from operations aimed to obtain agricultural crops, and ending with the conversion of the crops onto biofuels. Derived by the present authors, the mathematical model of energy efficiency of biofuel production is extended to a more general form, and applied to the analysis of quantitative relations between energy efficiency of sc. “energy plantations”, and further elements of biofuel production system converting harvested biomass into biofuel. Investigations are aimed towards the determination of the role of biomass as a source of energy.

The paper presents issues of production processes design and improvement. In order to visualize the production system functioning and estimate its efficiency, a simulation model has been created, on which a simulation experiment was carried out. Due to many factors influencing the effectiveness of processes, it was suggested to use multi-criteria evaluation tools to choose the rational solution. Three criteria have been assumed, according to which particular improvement variants were evaluated. Also, criteria weights have been set according to the Saaty’s method, and particular solution variants have been assessed separately with respect to each criterion. On the basis of the presented course of action, the best solution has been selected from among the analysed options.

Traditional mission of a university includes two elements: research and teaching by making reference to the state-of-the-art cognitive content. A third, new element of the mission is their direct public service. In recent years we have been stressing the role of higher education institutions in the shaping of social and economic reality, where active involvement in development processes of regions and countries are a challenge. The paper discusses educational policy of universities in the context of needs and expectations of the economy, especially of local production systems. Theoretical considerations are the point of departure for the presentation of the results of studies conducted under the Project “Policy and tools of creating human capital in the region” in higher education institutions in the Lodz Region. The market of educational services evolves dynamically and, as a result of overlapping external and internal conditions, the latest 20 years provoked revolutionary changes also in the universities in the Lodz Region. On the one hand, universities seek their own, individual development paths, diversify their educational offer to be competitive and, on the other hand, they start cooperating with one another and with the external world both in the area of education and research. That initiates or enhances economic cooperation and the development of network relations through, inter alia, developing and supporting territorial forms of cooperation, e.g., LPS, various types of economic collaboration, improved communication and integration between economic circles and educational institutions.

Today, the manufacturing industry must adapt to dynamic customer needs, changing from time to time following market trends. So that the production process in manufacturing requires adjustments, one of which is by forming social manufacturing. This study aims to create an integrated production system model based on social manufacturing, which involves several Socialized Manufacturing Resources (SMR) as manufacturing resources that are socialized to produce a product. The methods used are field observation, literature study, design of a social manufacturing-based production system model, model simulation using ProModel software, and analysis of model simulation results. In this study, the simulation involves four SMRs, each of which makes a part that has been given specifications by the manufacturer based on customer requests. The product produced is the Sanitation Chamber, which is equipped with a control system to monitor reading data via the internet. The model simulation uses the Pro Model software and analyzes resource use, location utilization, and resource costs.

Global economic crisis has brought into question sustainability of many industrial enterprises, especially Large-sized Enterprises (LEs). However, the strength of the European economy are not Large-sized Enterprises, but Small and Medium-sized industrial Enterprises (SMEs). As an alternative to LEs there is networking of SMEs into flexible production networks. Inside production network SMEs can collaborate on new product development forming Virtual Enterprise. SMEs collaborating as one Virtual Enterprise can be seen as a sustainable Large-sized Enterprise. However, to achieve sustainability through production networks, i.e. Virtual Enterprises, it is essential to choose an optimal combination of SMEs in Virtual Enterprise formation process. Since it is a complex task that requires the use of multi-criteria decision-making methods, in this paper PROMETHEE method is used.

Within 200 years since the industrial revolution manufacturing systems have often changed their faces. Emerging nations, new markets, new inventions and the changing needs of the society forced them to adapt. Until today, the arising challenges are immensely diverse: highly individualized products, decreasing manufacturing time, limited resources and critical ecological footprints are only a few of them. Oftentimes solutions for these issues and other future requirements can be found by interrogating nature. Applying knowledge of biological principles to industrial manufacturing processes is recently referred to as "biological transformation of manufacturing systems". Hereby three levels of a biological transformation are introduced, starting from inspiration over integration to the interaction of biological and technical systems. The paper illustrates the idea of biological transformation with specific examples for each level. On the inspiration-level the design of manufacturing systems with elements of natural ecosystems is described. Thus flexibility is increased, material cycles are closed and waste will be reduced. Furthermore the integration-level is illustrated by the use of microorganisms in cutting fluids. Finally, evolutionary computing within an automatic joining cell is shown as an example for the interaction-level.

In this paper, and after addressing the lean/sustainability challenge in a the literature to define main research orientations and critical points in manufacturing and then maintenance specific context, two case studies have been conducted in two production systems in Morocco and Canada, within the objective to set a clearer scene of the lean philosophy implementation in maintenance and within the sustainability scope from an empirical perspective. To activate the social dimension being often non-integrated in the lean/sustainability initiatives, the article authors reveal an original research direction assigning maintenance logistics as the leading part of our approach to cover all sustainability dimensions. Furthermore, its management is discussed for the first time in a sustainable framework, where the authors propose a new model considering the lean/sustainable perspective and inspired by the rich Human-Machine interaction memory to solve daily maintenance problems exploiting the operators’ experience feedback.

The realization of digitalization in production companies – currently also referred to as Industry 4.0 – aims for reduction of internal value creation costs as well as costs for intercompany collaboration and plays a key role in their current strategy development. However, related strategy research still lacks to provide operationalized digitalization methods and tools to practitioners with scientific rigor as well as real-world relevance. To challenge this status quo, we present a scientifically grounded 14-step procedure model including 11 practically tested tools, developed specifically for real-world application. The model leads practitioners from their first contact with industrial digitalization, through the maturity assessment of 143 digitalization items, until the implementation of a KPI-monitoring system and a continuous improvement process. We applied and re-worked the procedure model during three years of application. Validation and Feedback from practitioners and scholars indicate, that the model drives strategy development towards objective and data-based decision making and increases stakeholder engagement in organizations considerably.

Today, value chains are considered fractionally and on the basis of simplified model assumptions. Interactions between processes, materials, means of production and individuals acting in this environment as well as the effect of changes on the product usually are not known exhaustively. In order to take corrective actions towards these deficits, self-optimizing production system technologies can be used. They provide systems that emulate the "human" ability of reaching a decision with technical architectures. The goal of these approaches is to steadily analyze and evaluate the actual status in technological as well as in organisational areas and conduct a system adaptation to alternating objectives. Central questioning in this field of research is how to survey production data in order to detect correlations of production parameters and their influence on product parameters, how to derive decisions from this knowledge and how to learn from the consequences. Application technologies capable of taking on these tasks of self-optimization to emulate intelligent behaviour are analysed. The aim is to identify the competencies of these technologies, in order to build a cognitive system architecture based on applications especially suited for each task that has to be fulfilled to emulate cognitive human decision making processes.

Opis:
The computer modelling and simulation finds wide usage in the improvement of production systems like workplaces. Production systems are so complex, that without computer it is not possible to realize detailed analysis of processes taking place in them. The methodology for projects of workplaces improving with application of the software supporting duty analysis of the human body is presented in this paper.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to present a model of material flow organisation in a changing production system operating under small batch production conditions. Material flow is an element of the value stream that transforms production inventory into a finished product, creating value for the purchaser. Material flow management aims to ensure the consistency of supply and reliability of the production processes being carried out. Carrying out simulations for various production scenarios will be the basis for developing an effective method of material flow management in small batch production of cutting tools. Material flow simulation makes it possible to uncover selectively disruptive factors in existing production systems in order to systematically improve systems. Implementing material flow simulation in a timely manner allows the right trajectory to be established before manufacturing reality knowledge is available.

Opis:
The incompleteness theorems constitute the mathematical core of Gödel’s philosophical challenge. They are given in their “most satisfactory form”, as Gödel saw it, when the formality of theories to which they apply is characterized via Turing machines. These machines codify human mechanical procedures that can be carried out without appealing to higher cognitive capacities. The question naturally arises, whether the theorems justify the claim that the human mind has mathematical abilities that are not shared by any machine. Turing admits that non-mechanical steps of intuition are needed to transcend particular formal theories. Thus, there is a substantive point in comparing Turing’s views with Gödel’s that is expressed by the assertion, “The human mind infinitely surpasses any finite machine”. The parallelisms and tensions between their views are taken as an inspiration for beginning to explore, computationally, the capacities of the human mathematical mind.

Opis:
This paper presents the issue of task scheduling, which aims in establishing a sequence of tasks, which maximizes the utilization of company’s production capacity. The problem belongs to the NP-hard class, optimal method of solution has not yet been found, only approximate solutions have been offered. Regardless of specific production system, while considering reception of new tasks into the system, current review of the state of the system is required in order to decide whether and when a new order can be accepted for execution. In this paper, the problem of task scheduling is limited to determining the field of possible solutions to the problem of appropriate prioritization of production (production orders) which in turn will be accepted for execution on the assembly line in the car industry company. Simplified structure of the production system, orders transition paths and scheduling concepts within the system limitations have been presented.

Opis:
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań z lat 1999-2003 nad efektywnością systemów produkcji roślinnej w warunkach nawodnień deszczownianych w wybranych 25 gospodarstwach z regionu Kujaw. Stwierdzono ścisły związek między stosowanymi w gospodarstwach systemami produkcji roślinnej a efektywnością deszczowania. W gospodarstwach stosujących okopowo-zbożowe systemy produkcji roślinnej średni przyrost wartości produkcji roślinnej pod wpływem deszczowania wyniósł 1075 zł·ha-¹, wskaźnik dochodowości osiągnął wartość ujemną -167, a wskaźnik efektywności wyniósł 87%.
Results of studies on the efficiency of plant production systems based on sprinkling irrigation are presented in the paper. The studies were carried out in the years 1999-2003 in 25 chosen farms in the Kujawy region. Close relationship between plant production systems applied in the farms and sprinkling efficiency was found. In the farms applying tuber crop-cereal plant production systems the mean increase in plant production value under the influence of sprinkling was 1075 zł·ha-¹, the efficiency index attained negative value of -167 and the effectiveness index was 87 %. Sprinkling irrigation in this group of farms was an inefficient measure. In farms applying the tuber crop-vegetable-cereal, cereal-vegetable-tuber crop, tuber crop-cereal-vegetable and cereal-vegetable systems, irrigation was the efficient measure. It resulted in the increase of plant production value from 1620 to 3293 zł·ha-¹, in the increase of efficiency index from 27 to 1622 zł·ha-¹ and the increase in effectiveness index from 121 to 197 %.
