Opis:
In this research, the most appropriate probability distribution function for modelling RF signal path loss values in both wet and dry season months over urban, suburban and rural environments of Ondo State are presented. The data used consist of a drive test measurement campaign carried out in a typical urban, suburban and rural areas of Ondo State, South-western Nigeria in both wet and dry season months. The received signal strength (RSS) values were collected and recorded in log files alongside other environmental parameters using TEMS investigation tools. Path loss values were deduced from the measured RSS values. Some selected probability distribution function namely: gamma, lognormal, extreme value, logistic, Weibull and normal distributions function were fitted to the measured path loss values and the best suited one determined using three different metric measures. Results obtained show that normal distribution presents the best probability distribution curve for modelling the RF signal path loss over different micro-cellular environments of Ondo State. A typical result of the rural environment indicates that in wet season months, the normal distribution has RMSE of 7.060 dB, Relative Error of 12.480 % and R2 of 0.988, in dry season months, the RMSE is 9.060 dB, Relative Error of 13.450 % and R2 of 0.985. When compared with other distribution models, the same trend could be seen in other environments, although with different values of RMSE, Relative error and R2. The mean and the standard deviation parameters for the normal distribution estimated, vary seasonal-wise and are environment dependent. However, the rural environment exhibited a wider seasonal variations when compared with the other environments. The results of this research is useful as a first-hand information in the planning of future wireless propagation channels in the studied environments.

Opis:
The paper discusses service load measurements (weight of construction materials, small equipment and workers) conducted on 120 frame scaffoldings all over Poland in 2016‒2018. Despite the fact that the scaffolding should ensure the safety of its users, most accidents on construction sites are caused by fall from height. Service loads are one of the elements affecting the safety of scaffolding use. On the basis of the studies, maximum load on one platform and maximum load on a vertical scaffolding module for one day were obtained. They were treated as the random variables of the maximum values. Histograms and probability density functions were determined for these variables. The selection of a probability distribution consisted in the selection of a probability density function by means of fitting curves to the study result histograms using the method of least squares. The analysis was performed for distribution Weibull and Gumbel probability density functions which are applied for maximum values of random variables. Parameters of these functions can be used for the purposes of the reliability analysis to calibrate partial safety factors in simulation of service load during the scaffolding failure risk assessment. Besides, the probability of not exceeding the standard loads provided for frame scaffoldings for 120 weeks was established on the aforementioned basis. The results of the presented research show that in Poland there is a high probability of exceeding the permissible service loads in one year and thus there is a high risk of scaffolding damage.

A composite plate (matrix and reinforcing elements) under conditions of plane deformation is considered. According to the elastic properties, the material of the plate is considered orthotropic with uniformly distributed defects-cracks that do not interact with each other. The geometric characteristics of defects are statistically independent random variables – the half-length and the orientation angle between the defect line and the axis of orthotropy with a larger Young’s modulus. The ratio for the failure loading integral probability distribution function of the composite was obtained. The dependencies of the researched composite probability of failure (reliability) for the different number of cracks (plate sizes), different types of loading and various values of the exponential distribution parameter are calculated and investigated graphically.

An embedded time interval data acquisition system (DAS) is developed for zero power reactor (ZPR) noise experiments. The system is capable of measuring the correlation or probability distribution of a random process. The design is totally implemented on a single Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA). The architecture is tested on different FPGA platforms with different speed grades and hardware resources. Generic experimental values for time resolution and inter-event dead time of the system are 2.22 ns and 6.67 ns respectively. The DAS can record around 48-bit x 790 kS/s utilizing its built-in fast memory. The system can measure very long time intervals due to its 48-bit timing structure design. As the architecture can work on a typical FPGA, this is a low cost experimental tool and needs little time to be established. In addition, revisions are easily possible through its reprogramming capability. The performance of the system is checked and verified experimentally.

Hypotheses about expected value of random variable can be verified by means of the parametric sequential probability ratio test in case of the known class of this variable's distribution. The problem with verification of such hypotheses occurs when we have no information about random variable distribution. Then, we have to apply non-parametric methods. The author of the paper proposes the application of pseudo-likelihood function instead of likelihood one in the statistic of sequential probability ratio test. Examples of application of the test based on the likelihood function ratio in selected kinds of distributions are presented together with the results of Monte Carlo analysis concerning properties of these tests.

In this paper the properties of the above cosine based PDF are considered. The possibility of its applications in the routine data assessment and in virtual instruments with automatic uncertainty calcula tions is recommended.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to recognize the possibility of downscaling probability density function (PDF) of daily precipitation by means of canonical correlation analysis (CCA). Sea level pressure (SLP) over Europe and the North Atlantic was used as a predictor. A skilful statistical model could be used to generate projections of future changes of precipitation PDF driven by GCM (General Circulation Model) simulations. Daily precipitation totals from 8 stations located on the Polish coast of the Baltic Sea covering the period 1961-2010 were used to estimate the gamma distribution parameters, and only wet days (i.e. ≥0.1mm) were taken in the analysis. The results of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and comparison of empirical and theoretical (gamma-distributed) quantiles proved that gamma distribution gives a reliable description of daily precipitation totals. The validation of CCA models applied to gamma parameters revealed that the reliable reconstruction of precipitation PDF is possible only for average long-term conditions. In the case of individual months/seasons the agreement between empirical and reconstructed quantiles is poor. This study shows the potential of modelling of precipitation PDF, however efforts should be made to improve model performance by establishing more reliable links between regional forcing and the variability of the gamma parameters.

The characterisation of probability distribution plays an important role in statistical studies. There are various methods of characterisation available in the literature. The characterisation using truncated moments limits the observations; hence, researchers may save time and cost. In this paper, the characterisation of three general forms of continuous distributions based on doubly truncated moments has been studied. The results are given simply and explicitly. Further, the results have been applied to some well-known continuous distributions.

A Fibonacci-type probability distribution provides the probabilistic models for establishing stopping rules associated with the number of consecutive successes. It can be interpreted as a generalized version of a geometric distribution. In this article, after revisiting the Fibonaccitype probability distribution to explore its definition, moments and properties, we proposed numerical methods to obtain two estimators of the success probability: the method of moments estimator (MME) and maximum likelihood estimator (MLE). The ways both of them performed were compared in terms of the mean squared error. A numerical study demonsrated that the MLE tends to outperform the MME for most of the parameter space with various sample sizes.

This paper describes a new method for generating stationary integer-valued time series from renewal processes. We prove that if the lifetime distribution of renewal processes is nonlattice and the probability generating function is rational, then the generated time series satisfy causal and invertible ARMA type stochastic difference equations. The result provides an easy method for generating integer-valued time series with ARMA type autocovariance functions. Examples of generating binomial ARMA(p,p-1) series from lifetime distributions with constant hazard rates after lag p are given as an illustration.

This paper presents a new proposition on how to derive mathematical formulas that describe an unknown Probability Density Function (PDF3) of the spherical radii (r3) of particles randomly placed in non-transparent materials. We have presented two attempts here, both of which are based on data collected from a random planar cross-section passed through space containing three-dimensional nodules. The first attempt uses a Probability Density Function (PDF2) the form of which is experimentally obtained on the basis of a set containing two-dimensional radii (r2). These radii are produced by an intersection of the space by a random plane. In turn, the second solution also uses an experimentally obtained Probability Density Function (PDF1). But the form of PDF1 has been created on the basis of a set containing chord lengths collected from a cross-section. The most important finding presented in this paper is the conclusion that if the PDF1 has proportional scopes, the PDF3 must have a constant value in these scopes. This fact allows stating that there are no nodules in the sample space that have particular radii belonging to the proportional ranges the PDF1.

Opis:
A simple approach for CMOS integrated circuit (IC) design taking into account a process variability and oriented towards optimization of a parametric yield has been presented. Its concept is based on cumulative distribution functions of random variables representing IC performances subject to process variations. In the method it has been assumed that CMOS process statistical data are expressed in terms of so-called process parameter distributions. Thus the design centering is done via layout parameter tuning. The approach relies on maximizing the probability that random variables corresponding to IC performances remain within the performance boundaries. Also, a methodology for statistical characterization of CMOS process has been briefly described. Finally, the method operation has been illustrated using analytical and SPICE models of CMOS inverter, operational amplifier and ring oscillator.

Two non‑parallel lines will be named as bi‑lines. The relationship between the definition of the bi‑lines function and linear regression functions of the distribution mixture is considered. The bi‑lines function parameters are estimated using the least squares method for an implicit interdependence. In general, values of parameter estimators are evaluated by means of an approximation numerical method. In a particular case, the exact expressions for the parameter estimators were derived. In this particular case, the properties of the estimators are examined in details. The bi‑lines are also used to estimate the regression functions of the distribution mixture. The accuracy of the parameter estimation is analyzed.
