    Purpose: The aim of the study is to analyze environmental awareness among employees of companies producing plastics, and subsequently to draw conclusions about the level of their pro-environmental awareness. The motive for the implementation of pro-environmental awareness research in plastics-producing plants was their harmful impact on the environment. Design/methodology/approach: The research was a survey that was carried out among 44 workers of plastics enterprises located in south-eastern Poland in the first quarter of 2018. During the selection of companies for research, it was included: their location (south-eastern Poland), long-term operation (more than 30 years), the same type of activity (production of plastics), and whether pro-environmental activities were practiced. Findings: It was concluded that the level of awareness of the employees of plastic industry employees was on a low level. Research limitations/implications: The research sample is only a preliminary sample. It is planned to obtain data from a larger number of companies and verify the data. Practical implications: Enterprises should focus on meeting customer needs and maintaining high-quality products, but taking into account pro-environmental measures that should be a priority. This is possible if pro-environmental awareness is continually shaped. Social implications: The pro-environmental awareness is small among employees from the enterprises, in which pro-environmental actions were not practiced. Employees do not know how the processes are carried out in the company and whether they have any impact on the natural environment. Additionally, the employees of companies not used pro-environmental activities are unaware of the threats resulting from the activities of their company and do not know that other companies about the same activities already apply such activities. Originality/value: These results will allow better decisions in the context of sustainability and improvement actions to achieve a higher level of awareness among the plastic production companies' employees.

    The underlying objective of the paper is to indicate pro-environmental awareness level in micro and small enterprises and its influence on this sector’s activity in the context of environmental management. The author has introduced a taxonomy of pro-environmental awareness and also pro-environmental security, pro-environmental culture and pro-environmental ethics. Heterogeneous pro-environmental attitudes of units/entities (including business entities) have been aggregated in the paper, in the context of their transformation from a passive towards active attitude. The elaborated levels of pro-environmental awareness growth have been summarised in a chronological grasp, which constituted the subject of the research with reference to the subject matter of the paper defined in its title. The author has also justified the selection of the research subject - micro and small enterprises, which are a source of surface contamination (local one), but not always perceived as beneficiaries of the natural environment. With reference to the adopted subject of the research the author has made an attempt to evaluate the pro-environmental awareness of the purposefully selected population of micro and small enterprises. Maturity level of their pro-environmental awareness has also been evaluated according to the adopted scale described and explained in the theoretical part of the paper, which is a narrow part of the conducted research and an attempt to answer the question: What is the maturity level of pro-environmental awareness in micro and small enterprises and is it reflected in their green activity in the conducted business activity?.

    Today, the more and more intensive use of natural resources and consequent environmental degradation have made the issue of sustainable development a central place in many discussions going on in scientific circles. In this light, ecological awareness, as well as pro-ecological attitudes and behaviors of people seem to be only too significant. The aim of this article is to present the results of research conducted among the inhabitants of the Municipality of Zawadzkie, Opole Voivodeship. The study examined the relation between the level of environmental awareness and manifestations of environmental attitudes and behaviors. The obtained results were also subjected to a comparative analysis of two groups of respondents: inhabitants of towns and villages. The study did not show any significant differences between residents of towns and villages in terms of their ecological awareness and environmental attitudes and behaviors. It can therefore be concluded that changes in the sphere of awareness and specific environmental actions that are being taken in the surveyed community are not related to the place of residence. Residents of towns and villages have a similar access to knowledge and cultural changes concern both groups. It is worth pointing out that awareness as such and knowledge of the environment does not guarantee developing proper attitudes and pro-ecological behaviors, and changes in the area of specific environmental activities are of a long-term nature and do not occur overnight. Research has also shown that although knowledge about ecology is not always reflected in everyday attitudes and behaviors of the respondents, changes in environmental direction can be observed in both urban and rural areas.

    The level of environmental protection awareness among students is not sufficient. Although the research was carried out at an interval of 11 years, the state of awareness has not changed to the extent expected, and, in some areas, the studies show a decrease in taking environmental action. Raising the level of environmental awareness and shaping attitudes is only possible in the course of environmental education and comprehensive information on the condition and needs of the environment and the pro-environmental activities being taken in the immediate and more distant environment. Students’ level of knowledge shows the need to take immediate actions which influence the information resource as a base to start shaping pro-environmental awareness. Ecologically aware individual will be undertaking in daily life environmentally friendly activities and will be making choices that are not harmful for the environment. The fact of deterioration of results indicates the need for intensive environmental education and verification of the effectiveness of various institutions in this respect.
    Poziom świadomości w zakresie ochrony środowiska wśród studentów nie jest wystarczający. Mimo że opisywane badania przeprowadzone zostały w odstępie 11 lat, nie zmienił się on w stopniu oczekiwanym, a w niektórych obszarach nastąpił nawet spadek podejmowanych działań proekologicznych. Podnoszenie poziomu świadomości ekologicznej i kształtowanie postaw możliwe jest tylko w toku edukacji ekologicznej i obszernego informowania na temat stanu i potrzeb środowiska oraz działań prośrodowiskowych prowadzonych w najbliższym i dalszym otoczeniu. Stan wiedzy studentów wskazuje na konieczność podjęcia natychmiastowych kroków, by wpłynąć na zasób informacji będących bazą do rozpoczęcia kształtowania świadomości prośrodowiskowej. Świadoma ekologicznie jednostka będzie w codziennym życiu działała w sposób przyjazny dla środowiska i dokonywała wyborów, które nie będą środowisku szkodziły. Przedstawione wyniki badań wskazują na konieczność intensywnej edukacji ekologicznej oraz weryfikacji skuteczności działań różnych instytucji w tym zakresie.

    This article addresses the issue of environmental awareness of future managers as a key element in the development of sustainable organizations. Partial results of the survey conducted among students of the Faculty of Management of the Częstochowa University of Technology were presented. The research aimed to get to know the views and attitudes, to define the level of ecological knowledge, and to identify the pro-environmental behavior. Due to the wide scope of the study, this article focuses mainly on the results of first part of research - views on environmental issues.

    The aim of the study was to identify pro-ecological behaviors undertaken by students of the Faculty of Economics of WULS-SGGW and the problems accompanying such activities, as well as to assess the behavior of family and friends and the approach of decision-makers to environmental issues. The survey technique was used in the research. The sample consisted of 119 respondents from all degrees, forms and fields of study at the Faculty. Only half of the respondents considered themselves pro-ecological consumers. Students also assessed their families more favorably than their friends in this respect. However, a much larger percentage of the sample participants declared that they regularly undertook specific activities in this area, the most popular of which were reusing plastic bags during shopping and the use of public transport. The least often, students decided to buy organic food and industrial ecological products. There were some significant differences in the declarations of men and women. Students of the Faculty of Economics of WULS-SGGW in their behavior and frequency did not differ significantly from their Polish peers. The main barrier to their pro-ecological behavior was the high cost of ecological goods.
    Celem badań było rozpoznanie zachowań proekologicznych podejmowanych przez osoby kształcące się na Wydziale Ekonomicznym SGGW w Warszawie, towarzyszących im problemów, a także ocena zachowania rodziny i znajomych oraz podejścia decydentów do kwestii proekologicznych. W badaniach wykorzystano technikę ankiety. Próba liczyła 119 respondentów ze wszystkich stopni, form i kierunków studiów realizowanych na Wydziale Ekonomicznym SGGW. Jedynie połowa respondentów uważała się za konsumentów postępujących proekologicznie, studenci dużo przychylniej oceniali w tym zakresie także własne rodziny niż znajomych. Dużo większy odsetek uczestników próby deklarował jednak regularne podejmowanie określonych działań w tym zakresie, z których najpopularniejsze były wielokrotne wykorzystywanie foliowych toreb w trakcie zakupów oraz korzystanie ze środków transportu zbiorowego. Najrzadziej studenci decydowali się na zakup spożywczych i przemysłowych produktów ekologicznych. Zaobserwowano przy tym pewne istotne różnice w deklaracjach kobiet i mężczyzn, ale w swoich zachowaniach i ich częstotliwości studenci Wydziału Ekonomicznego SGGW nie odstawali znacząco od rówieśników z Polski. Główną barierą ich zachowań proekologicznych były wysokie koszty ekologicznych dóbr.

    W artykule zaprezentowano przegląd wyników badań empirycznych dotyczących wpływu wybranych czynników determinujących zastosowanie dobrych praktyk środowiskowych w małych i średnich przedsiębiorstwach (MŚP). W pracy zaakcentowano szczególnie rolę indywidualnego zaangażowania właściciela/menedżera w implementację praktyk środowiskowych, wyrażone poprzez jego świadomość ekologiczną i proekologiczną postawę. W opracowaniu zaprezentowano teoretyczny model uwarunkowań zewnętrznych świadomości ekologicznej i stosowanych praktyk środowiskowych.
    The article presents a review of the results from empirical studies relevant to the influence of specific factors that determine the implementation of good environmental practices in the SME sector. The concern, the understanding of environmental awareness and the pro-environmental attitude in implementing environmental practices as they relate to the individual entrepreneur was particularly emphasized. The article presents a theoretical model of external influences on environmental awareness and practices in SMEs.

    The main cognitive objectives of this paper are the following: to present previous results and achievements in the field of research on pro-environmental behaviours in the hotel industry, to identify major barriers to the shaping of such behaviours, and to specify directions of further research on this topic in the context of sustainable tourism development. The dominant research method used in this paper is a systematic analysis of the available literature on the subject, but the authors also use their own knowledge and experience resulting from conducted quality audits. An analysis of the previous publications in this topic allows the authors to identify the major barriers to the shaping of pro-environmental behaviours in hotels in both the objective dimension (concrete actions and problems) and the subjective dimension (all people who should manifest pro-environmental behaviours). The paper discusses various theories and models explaining the process of the occurrence and development of pro-environmental behaviours in hotels. They can constitute a basis for hotel managers to create their own training programmes aimed at the shaping of pro-environmental behaviours.
    Głównymi celami poznawczymi artykułu są: ukazanie dotychczasowego dorobku dotyczącego badań nad zachowaniami prośrodowiskowymi w branży hotelarskiej, identyfikacja głównych barier kształtowania tego rodzaju zachowań oraz sformułowanie kierunków dalszych kierunków badań nad podjętą problematyką w kontekście zrównoważonego rozwoju turystyki. Główną metodą badawczą była systematyczna analiza literatury, lecz autorzy wykorzystali również wiedzę z własnych doświadczeń wynikających z przeprowadzania audytów jakości. Analiza dotychczas opublikowanych badań pozwoliła na identyfikację głównych barier kształtowania zachowań prośrodowiskowych w hotelach zarówno w układzie przedmiotowym (konkretnych działań i problemów), jak i podmiotowym (wszystkich osób, które powinny przejawiać zachowania prośrodowiskowe). W artykule omówiono różne teorie i modele wyjaśniające, w jaki sposób dochodzi do rozwoju zachowań prośrodowiskowych w hotelach. Na ich podstawie menedżerowie hotelowi będą mogli tworzyć własne programy edukacyjne, których celem będzie kształtowanie zachowań prośrodowiskowych.

    Balanced development is at present a challenge for creating awareness not only of a particular society, but also in the widest sense a whole generation of people. When such issues are undertaken, the role of education during all stages of teaching should be taken into consideration, especially in the range of promoting the idea of responsibility for the natural environment and eco-development. It is a specially important element of teaching according to the principle of pro-environmental education to undertake all actions in the educational centers, which aim is to stimulate the environmental awareness of young people as well as to prepare the pedagogical staff in the implementation of the wide range of methods and strategies that allow to get the best results during the process of educating the young generation.
    Zrównoważony rozwój jest aktualnie istotnym wyzwaniem w kształtowaniu świadomości nie tylko danych grup społecznych, lecz również – w szerszym rozumieniu – ogółu obywateli. Podejmując tę problematykę, należy zwrócić szczególną uwagę na rolę edukacji wszystkich etapów kształcenia w propagowaniu idei odpowiedzialności za środowisko naturalne i tym samym ekorozwoju. Szczególnie ważne w kształceniu w myśl zasad edukacji prośrodowiskowej jest podjęcie w placówkach szkolnych wszelkich działań, których celem jest stymulowanie świadomości środowiskowej młodzieży, a także przygotowanie kadry pedagogicznej do wdrażania szeregu metod i strategii pozwalających na uzyskanie jak najlepszych wyników w procesie edukacji młodego pokolenia.

    The aim of the article is to present the state of environmental knowledge of young people. Contemporary perception of environmental problems has been evaluated in recent decades. More and more often are the problems related to climate change and our role in activities to maintain the values of the natural environment directly visible. The implementation of the idea of sustainable development not only in economic but also social life creates opportunities for both broadening one’s knowledge and taking actions for nature. Environmental awareness presented in the article is based on the assessment of the state of ecological knowledge. The research, on the basis of which the article was developed, was carried out in 2004 on a group of students from Warsaw University of Life Sciences, and was repeated in 2019. The research was carried out in a group of students of the faculty of Economics. The obtained results indicated that the main sources of acquiring knowledge on topics related to the environment are changing, and the role of education and training in the educational institution is increasing. On the other hand, the level of ecological awareness, expressed in the state of knowledge, varies in terms of subject matter. In the case of defining the five researched terms, it was possible to observe a higher correctness of the assignment of terms and their definition among the respondents from the second survey carried out in 2019. The respondents from the repeated survey also showed a higher level of knowledge in the field of knowledge of national parks in Poland.
    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie stanu wiedzy ekologicznej młodych ludzi. W ostatnich dziesięcioleciach współczesne postrzeganie problemów środowiskowych ulegało ewaluacji. Coraz częściej dostrzega się problemy związane ze zmieniającym się klimatem oraz rolę człowieka w działaniach na rzecz utrzymania walorów środowiska przyrodniczego. W artykule świadomość ekologiczną oparto na ocenie stanu wiedzy ekologicznej. Badania przeprowadzono w 2004 roku na grupie studentów kierunków ekonomicznych SGGW w Warszawie i ponowiono je w 2019 roku. Z uzyskanych danych wynika, że zmieniają się główne źródła pozyskiwania wiedzy na tematy związane ze środowiskiem, a także zwiększa się rola edukacji i kształcenia w instytucjach szkolnictwa. Natomiast poziom świadomości ekologicznej wyrażony stanem wiedzy, był zróżnicowany pod względem tematyki. W przypadku definiowania pięciu badanych terminów zaobserwowano wyższą poprawność przyporządkowania terminów i ich definiowania wśród respondentów z drugiego badania realizowanego w 2019 roku.     Artykuł przedstawia zadania pastoralne parafii w Polsce w dziedzinie ekologii. Z powodu degradacji środowiska naturalnego cierpią przede wszystkim ludzie. Ponieważ to działalność człowieka przyczynia się do dewastacji natury, dlatego najbardziej skuteczne w ochronie środowiska będą działania podejmowane w obrębie parafii, których „domem” jest terytorium, na którym zamieszkują jej członkowie. Pierwszym zadaniem jest działalność na rzecz uświadomienia proekologicznego, dalej nawrócenie ekologiczne i zmiana stylu życia parafian na co dzień. W praktycznych wskazaniach zostały zaproponowane konkretne działania w parafiach na rzecz ochrony środowiska w Polsce, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem ochrony życia osoby ludzkiej od poczęcia do naturalnej śmierci.
    The article presents pastoral tasks of parishes in Poland in the field of ecology. Environmental degradation first and foremostly affects people. Since it is human activity that contributes to the devastation of nature, the most effective way to protect the environment seem to be actions undertaken in parishes and on the territory where their members live. The first task consists in raising environmental awareness among parishioners, followed by ecological conversion and change their daily lifestyle. The article presents some practical guidelines regarding specific actions proposed in parishes for the protection of the environment in Poland, with particular emphasis on the protection of human life from conception to natural death.
