    Opis:
    The main features of the Cloud Computing system developed at IFJ PAN are described. The project is financed from the structural resources provided by the European Commission and the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education (Innovative Economy, National Cohesion Strategy). The system delivers a solution for carrying out computer calculations on a Private Cloud computing infrastructure. It consists of an intuitive Web based user interface, a module for the users and resources administration and the standard EC2 interface implementation. Thanks to the distributed character of the system it allows for the integration of a geographically distant federation of computer clusters within a uniform user environment.

    Celem artykułu jest porównanie wydajności pięciu popularnych rozwiązań wirtualizacyjnych stosowanych w modelu chmury prywatnej. Analiza została przeprowadzona dla pięciu wirtualizatorów: Proxmox, OpenVZ, OpenNebula, Vmware ESX, Xen Server. Do badań wykorzystano narzędzia OpenSSL, GeekBench i Phoronix-test-suite w celu wykonania testów wydajnościowych. w porównaniu uwzględniono wybrane metody szyfrowania, wielkość bloku danych oraz prędkość kompilacji.
    The aim of the article is to compare the performance of five popular virtualization solutions used in the private cloud model. The analysis was conducted for five virtualizers: Proxmox, OpenVZ, OpenNebula, Vmware ESX, Xen Server. OpenSSL, GeekBench and Phoronixtestsuite tools were used to perform performance tests. The comparison included selected encryption methods, data block size, and compilation speed.

    Chmura obliczeniowa (Cloud Computing) stanowi obecnie ważny trend na rynku IT. Usługi Cloud Computing polegają na dostarczeniu i udostępnianiu wydajnych i skalowalnych zasobów IT (sprzętu, oprogramowania i usług), a usługodawca, którym jest zwykle podmiot zewnętrzny (ewentualnie wewnętrzny dział IT), oferuje usługi informatyczne odbiorcom za pośrednictwem sieci. Chmura obliczeniowa dynamicznie się rozwija zarówno w Polsce, jak i poza jej granicami i coraz częściej uzupełnia, a nawet zastępuje klasyczną formę wdrożeń technologii informatycznych w organizacjach. W artykule, na bazie raportów i opracowań firm analityczno-doradczych i innych organizacji, przedstawiono aktualny stan i prognozy rozwoju Cloud Computing w Polsce oraz niektórych krajach UE. Wskazano również bariery warunkujące dalszy rozwój Cloud Computingu w Polsce.
    Cloud computing is now an important trend in the IT market. Cloud Computing services function by delivery and provision of efficient and scalable IT resources (hardware, software and services), and the service provider, which is usually an external subject (or internal IT department), offers IT services to customers via the network. Cloud computing is growing rapidly, both in Poland and abroad, and more often complements or even replaces the classical form of implementation of information technology in organizations. In the paper on the basis of reports and studies research prepared by different organizations the current status and forecast of Cloud Computing development in Poland and in some EU countries were presented. It also identified barriers conditioning the further development of Cloud Computing in Poland.

    In the paper analysis of available, free Cloud Storage services for company/enterprise applications is presented. The choice of the most appropriate cloud service will be associated with such features as its compatibility in relation to the terms of use, data security, performance and stability. Performed analysis focuses on solutions which the license does not prohibit the use of their free version of the service for commercial purposes, in the company. An important factor, partly influencing for the choice, will also be intuitiveness, additional functionality and ease of use offered by client applications.

    More and more frequently companies decide to get rid of certain functions of their structures by using outside firms to provide components and services. Outsourcing, very popular in recent years, has the purpose of reducing spendings in departments of a company. However, it this goal achieved? Often, such cost reduction is connected with the dependence of the customer on the supplier - which can, in the long run, globally contribute to raising costs. Will such delegation of certain responsibilities not cause a significant danger of losing its independence and a gradual increase in spendings in such a way that, in a broader perspective, they will be much higher than the costs before outsourcing? What will happen when a company dependent on its supplier or provider wants to pass another or a different company a particular job? Furthermore, if the company management decided to dispense with the services offered by a third party - would we be able to import the data that we receive into any other system? The compilation is an attempt at familiarizing the reader with the meaning of Cloud computing, as well as the concepts directly related to it. An attempt has been made to systemise the knowledge of the subject and present the main premises and hazards that are associated with the implementation of solution.

    The article describes the causes of the economic and organizational case for implementing VDI solutions in the learning centers of Academic Centers. The analysis laboratory infrastructure allows for better understanding the broad ability to adapt to VDI and range of benefits they receive, administrators and staff research and teaching. Described implementation is based on VMware Horizon View 5.The author was the originator of the concept of VDI implementation at the University of Economics in Wrocław and participant of the project team.

    Artykuł dotyczy omówienia wybranych aspektów finansowych wpływających na kształtowanie się korzyści finansowych powstających dzięki wykorzystywaniu przetwarzania w chmurze obliczeniowej. W części wstępnej znajduje się wprowadzenie na temat sposobów oceny korzyści finansowych w IT w sektorze publicznym w ujęciu literaturowym. Następnie opisane są uwarunkowania prowadzenia inwestycji IT w jednostkach samorządu terytorialnego. Poruszane są zagadnienia związane ze specyfiką współfinansowania przedsięwzięć informatycznych ze środków pochodzących z funduszy europejskich oraz wskazane wymogi prawne i organizacyjne związane z procesem planowania i rozliczania tworzenia systemów IT. W dalszej części przedstawione jest, w jaki sposób postrzega się na poziomie lokalnej administracji możliwości powstawania korzyści finansowych dzięki wykorzystywaniu przetwarzania w chmurze. Rozważania te są poparte materiałem pochodzącym z wywiadów, przeprowadzonych w kilku jednostkach samorządowych. Podsumowanie zawiera wnioski dotyczące potrzeby opracowania metody analizy korzyści finansowych powstających dzięki prywatnej chmurze obliczeniowej administracji lokalnej.
    The main objective of this paper is to discuss financial benefits of a private cloud for the local government. A traditional approach in financial analysis of using IT in the public sector is analysed. At first, the article describes some methods used to assess the benefits of using IT in the context of the existing literature. Then considerations are presented concerning investment processes of IT in the units of local government. The issues related to nature of co-financing of IT projects from European Funds are discussed. In addition, legal and organisational requirements for this are indicated. In the following part we present the local administration’s perception of financial advantages of cloud computing. These considerations are supported by the material derived from interviews conducted in several local government units. The summary contains conclusions and talks about the need for developing a method that would allow to analyse the financial benefits for the local administration generated by a private cloud.
