Schistosomiasis is the major source of morbidity in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. It is estimated that 207 million people are infected, of which 97% are in Africa. The aim of this study was the determining of prevalence as well as the phylogeny of S. haematobium among school children in Argungu Emirate, Kebbi State Nigeria. A total of 325 urine samples was collected from school children between 7 to 14 years. S. heamatobium eggs was examined under dissecting microscope and DNA was extracted from urine sample and COX1 gene was amplified by nested PCR. The PCR products were purified, sequenced and analysed. This study showed a prevalence of 32.09%, with male pupils having the highest prevalence. S. haematobium infections in children who fetch water in the river have 24 times higher risk of being infected while those who bath in the river have 158 times higher risk of being infected. Our sequences were phylogenetically related to S. haematobium isolate U82266 from Kenya and consistence with the predominant species in Africa. This was the first S. haematobium and S. mansoni co-infection reported in Nigeria. S. haematobium infection is prevalent among school age and significantly associated with water contact.

The aim of this study was to observe the importance of sport activities among 5th grade pupils in the canton of Schwyz (located in Central Switzerland) and to identify possible differences between children of various nationalities. The cross-sectional study was carried out in 30 randomly selected classes during the school year 2015/2016. The sample (n = 468) consisted of 52.8 % boys and 47.2 % girls, aged 10.8+0.7 years old. Socio-demographic characteristics, interests and participation in sports were established using a standardized questionnaire. The majority of the observed primary school children (85.7%) participate regularly in sports. Approximately 5 hours of sports are practised on average per week; about 18 % are engaged in such activities for more than 7 hours. The percentage of fully sport-abstinent children is around 3.5 %. In accordance with other studies, the influence of immigration backgrounds seems to be mainly moderated by gender. While boys with foreign or Swiss origin are equally enthusiastic about sports, there is clearly a lower level of participation in sports in general and especially in sports clubs among girls who come from an immigrant background. Therefore, they should be considered one of the important target groups for exercise promotion programs.

The work concerns the issue of the influence of the training on the empathy and the aggression in group of children 6–9 years old. The subject of the research was to determine the level of aggression in group of children 6–9 years old, conducting training of empathy, and re-examination of the level of aggression. Aggression was examinated by modified version of questionnare ‟My life in school” created by Tiny Arora, with polish adaptation by Tomasz Kołodziejczyk. The empathy training included eight exercises, the aim of which was to develop skills related with empathy. There was 100 students of elementary school in the study group, 52 girls and 48 boys. A conducted statistical analysis confirmed the correlation between the empathy training and the level of aggression in whole study group. However, a hypothesis about relationship between sex and effectiveness of training weren’t confirmed. Both boys and girls empathy training brought results, although it was more effective in first group. The empathy training was proven to be effective. It reduced the level of aggression in the study group of 100 children 6–9 years old. These findings prompted to number of doubts and thoughts about its implementa on and encouraged to reflection the improvement of future research trials. It is certain, however, that empathy training reduces aggression and can be an effective tool in dealing with aggression at school.
Praca dotyczy problemu wpływu treningu empatii na poziom agresji u dzieci w wieku 6–9 lat. Przedmiotem badań jest określenie poziomu agresji u tychże, przeprowadzenie treningu empatii, a następnie ponowne zbadanie poziomu agresji. Agresję badano zmodyfikowaną wersją kwestionariusza „Moje życie w szkole”, opracowanego przez Tiny Arora i zaadoptowanego w wersji polskiej przez Tomasza Kołodziejczyka. Trening obejmował osiem ćwiczeń, których celem było rozwinięcie umiejętności związanych z empatią. Badania empiryczne zrealizowano wśród dzieci w wieku 6–9 lat, czyli uczniów klas 1–3 szkoły podstawowej. W grupie badanej znalazło się sto dzieci: 52 dziewczynki, 48 chłopców. Przeprowadzona analiza statystyczna potwierdziła związek pomiędzy treningiem empatii a poziomem agresji w badanej grupie. Nie potwierdzono natomiast hipotezy o związku płci i skuteczności treningu. Zarówno u chłopców, jak i u dziewczynek trening empatii przyniósł rezultaty, chociaż w grupie chłopców były one lepsze. Trening empatii okazał się skuteczny. Zmniejszył poziom agresji w badanej grupie stu dzieci w wieku 6–9 lat w ciągu jednego tygodnia. Badanie nasunęło szereg wątpliwości i przemyśleń dotyczących jego wykonania i skłoniło do refleksji nad udoskonaleniem przyszłych prób badawczych. Pewne jest jednak, że trening empatii obniża poziom agresji i może stanowić skuteczne narzędzie w radzeniu sobie z agresją w szkole.

The authors of this article concentrate on the use and role of fairy tales in foreign language teaching to primary school children. They discuss these notions on the basis of scholarly literature and questionnaire responses of 2nd- and 3rd-year students of pedagogy and language studies at Wielkopolska University of Social and Economic Studies in Środa Wielkopolska. Apart from pointing to the necessity of introducing fairy tales in education, particularly foreign language education, they identify and describe in their account a number of tools which can be helpful for the presentation and discussion of content from fairy tales in a foreign language class at the primary school level. They also enumerate a number of effects which children’s work with fairy tales brings and in the end they draw conclusions with regard to the subject in question.

This study aimed to evaluate the dynamics of emotional and psychological behavior indicators in children aged 7-8 years in modern society. The study was conducted in 2018-2019 in Moscow (Russian Federation) and included a total of 600 children of the second – third grades in three secondary schools. The first group included children from families with high social status and higher education of both parents, the second group comprised children from middle-class families with secondary special education of parents, and the third group enrolled children from low-income families with incomplete secondary education of parents. Children were tested for aggressiveness as well as attitudes toward family members. It has been established that in the first group, the model of upbringing was dominated by hyper-socialization of the authoritarian type. In the second group, the model of education was more balanced, symbiosis and cooperation dominated, exceeding the other parameters by 1.3–1.9 times (p ≤ 0.05). In the third group, average and high levels of aggression were stated to be significantly higher – 1.6–2.2 times (p ≤ 0.01). In the third and first groups, there was a direct connection between the frequency of instrumental aggression and negative attitude towards siblings (0.65 and 0.84, respectively).

The goal of this paper is to determine the areas of inefficiency of educational influences in the field of Polish language education in teaching early primary school children. Three areas require a fundamental change: language training focused on the implementation of the knowledge of the language structure, training the skills of written expression, and developing attitudes that make up the culture of being in a diverse information environment. Showing omissions of school in these three areas, the paper presents a project of language education oriented not towards familiarizing a child with the knowledge of the language structure, but towards portraying the nature of language, i.e., taking interest in how a child, while applying language, marks its being in the world, how it acts via language, how it uses language to reach the mysteries of the world and what it does with language during this operation. The final comments suggest that school is there to help a child to interpret the world, to recognize various phenomena, to assume attitudes towards them, and to make their independent evaluation.

The topicality and the context of this research are related to the phenomenon of wellbeing and factors influencing it, regarding early childhood and primary school. The aim is to study, analyse, and identify the key factors of promoting the wellbeing and healthy lifestyle of a child. Children’s wellbeing, therefore, and health and safety are more than just physical wellbeing; it should be seen holistically, as a whole welfare, and it depends not only on the environment where the child is raised, but also involves emotional support from all the people who are connected with this little human being. Thus, the first years for children at school and also for teachers (especially young teachers who have just begun their career) are a special time in their life because during this period the experience of what the child and the teacher is, and how strong and essential their connection will be, is formed. It is very important already at the early stage to understand that each child is different; they have different physical and emotional development, individual characteristics, as well as a different approach to understanding and learning things. Therefore, in the primary school it is important for the teachers to create a positive, highly social, interactive and creative environment so that the children can develop and learn more successfully. Wellbeing has a great importance in the school environment in order to create teachers’ and children’s satisfaction with life, positive relationships with others, as well as a positive and successful learning environment. The family, as well as the teachers who are involved in the development of the children’s lives, especially in the first grades at school, are one of the most essential factors that define the personal growth of the young children.

Seventeen workshops on STEAM and Media Literacy, involving 500 children aged 3-10, their families and other community members, in a pandemic context, was the end result of the third phase of the ‘Digital Citizenship Academy’. This community-based action research project began in early 2015, in a Lisbon neighbourhood of Portugal. The workshops were planned, implemented, monitored and assessed by 29 teachers during an online training initially planned to be developed on site. Despite the Covid-19 outbreak, teachers implemented strategies to overcome the lack of resources and autonomy of many students, especially younger ones, and the training focus remained on the production of scientific, artistic, technological, but also media content. The workshops allowed the creation of media and STEAM products primarily focused on the arts, but in which science, technology, engineering and mathematics were present. Results point to the fact that STEAM projects gain in relevance when associated with Media Literacy activities, and vice versa. Although there is a general feeling that the situation resulting from the pandemic prevented the achievement of more significant results, the training course was suitable to pedagogical practices, provided an opportunity for sharing of experiences, practices and ideas, fostered cooperation and interdisciplinary, and resulted in useful resources.

Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia analizę nowo powstających polskich szkół, a jego celem jest określenie najważniejszych tendencji i problemów projektowych w kontekście wysokich oczekiwań stawianym obiektom dla najmłodszych użytkowników. Analiza wykonana została w oparciu o dane źródłowe (materiały projektowe) i obejmowała badania układu funkcjonalnego budynku oraz lokalizacji obiektu w odniesieniu do jednostki osadniczej. W rezultacie udało się zidentyfikować kilka tendencji dominujących w projektach oraz elementy występujące tylko w pojedynczych przypadkach. Na ich podstawie można zdefiniować wnioski charakteryzujące architekturę nowo powstających szkół, wskazując mocne strony opracowań oraz elementy, które należałoby brać pod uwagę w przygotowywaniu przyszłych projektów szkół w kontekście dzisiejszego podejścia do projektowania. Bezsprzecznie jakość przestrzeni oraz architektury analizowanych obiektów reprezentuje wysoki poziom. Pozostają jednak obszary, w których wiele można zrobić, aby architektura współczesnych polskich szkół jeszcze lepiej odpowiadała wymogom zmieniających się uwarunkowań społeczno-gospodarczych.
This article presents an analysis of newly established Polish schools and its aim is to identify the most important trends and design problems in the context of high expectations for facilities for the youngest users. The analysis was based on source data (design materials) and included an analysis of the functional layout of the building and the location of the facility in relation to the settlement unit. As a result, it was possible to identify several trends dominating projects and elements occurring only in individual cases. On their basis, it is possible to define conclusions characterizing the architecture of newly created schools, indicating the strengths of the studies and elements that should be taken into account in the preparation of future school projects in the context of today's approach to design. Undoubtedly, the quality of the space and architecture of the analysed objects is on a high level. However, there are still areas where much can be done to make the architecture of contemporary Polish schools to even better meet the requirements of the changing socio-economic conditions.

Background. In the group of school-aged children nutritional education (NE) enables an early development of healthy eating habits, which can be transferred to the adult life. Objective. The aim of the study was to assess the long-term effect of a one-time nutritional education, including also culinary workshops, on the level of nutritional knowledge (NK) of early school-aged children as well as to analyse the nutritional content of the children’s books. Material and methods. The study was conducted among second- and third-grade pupils from a primary school in Warsaw (n=76). The level of NK was determined using the same, self-administrated questionnaire at each of the three stages of the study. Results. The level of NK was assumed as very good in 47% of respondents before the education, in 91% immediately after the education, and in 74% six months after it. Out of all 23.0 points (max.) on average 18.1 points were obtained at the first stage, 21.1 points at the second stage and 19.7 points at the third stage (p<0.001). Immediately after the NE and six months after it the level of NK increased significantly (comparing to the first stage) especially on these topics: the daily water requirements and the recommendations on physical activity (p<0.001 for both questions). Conclusions. The results of the study confirmed the effectiveness of a one-time nutritional education on the level of nutritional knowledge. Moreover, results show that in the research group nutritional knowledge about importance of physical activity, adequate nutrition, eating varicoloured vegetables and fruits, screen time limits and distinguishing between healthy and unhealthy products was satisfactory, even at the baseline, but in the main source of fats in a diet, the role of milk products, the effect of having too little water in a diet and the sugar content in food children’s knowledge was not enough

The present text deals with the cooperation between teachers and parents in the field of upbringing. The analysis of ranges, aims, forms of co-operation and factors stimulating its effectiveness was conducted based on the research done among 90 primary school teachers from Poland and 120 from Hungary. The cooperation between teachers and parents rests on e.g. exchange of experience and it is a significant factor supporting the comprehensive children’s development. This close cooperation enables early diagnosis and elimination of critical problems.
Niniejszy tekst dotyczy współpracy nauczycieli i rodziców w zakre-sie wychowania. Analiza zakresów, celów, form współpracy, czynników warunku-jących jej efektywność została dokonana na podstawie badań przeprowadzonych wśród 90 nauczycieli szkół podstawowych z Polski oraz 120 z Węgier. Współ-praca obu tych środowisk polegająca m.in. na wymianie doświadczeń stanowi istotny czynnik wspierający wszechstronny rozwój dzieci i umożliwiający wczesną diagnozę i eliminowanie niepokojących zjawisk.

Anthropological concept of rites the passage in the sphere of pre-school education was applied in the paper. In the case of the ritual of appointing as preschool child one faces specific ritual as regards the place in which it takes place (kindergarten institution) and persons to which it is applied (children at the age of 3 and 4). The aim of a ceremony is socialization of an individual and integration with a group in the first place. Rites of passage share with the analyzed preschool ritual such features as rigid role scheme, structure of a ceremony of ritual actions, functions of a ritual, and the fact that by this ritual integration and cohesion of a group is maintained and the children’s bound with kindergarten workers is augmented. Although the ceremony of appointing as preschool child does not change the status of an individual, it performs important role related to role playing, international functions and the functions set on auto-identification of a child (that stem from group activity). Moreover, by the ceremony the youngest children can show their parents that they learn new abilities, partly different than the ones they experience at their homes. Methodological approach used in the study can be labeled as participant secret observation, close to the “participant-as-observer” category. The ceremony was observed in one of kindergartens in Toruń, in 26 children group, labeled as “Ladybirds”. Field observation was completed, firstly, by the photographic documentation (done during the ritual), secondly, by the ritual scenario (written by the kindergarten teachers), and thirdly, by the interview with the tutor of the observed group of children.

Opis:
Celem było ustalenie struktury zainteresowań sportowych dzieci uczęszczających do klas III szkoły podstawowej. Główny problem badawczy to pytanie: Jaka jest struktura zainteresowań sportowych dzieci uczęszczających do klas III szkoły podstawowej? W pracy wykorzystano metodę sondażu diagnostycznego. Posłużono się kwestionariuszem ankiety. Badaniami łącznie objęto grupę 131 osób. Chłopcy zdecydowanie częściej interesują się dyscyplinami sportowymi związanymi z piłką: piłka nożna, piłka ręczna, koszykówka, siatkówka. Dziewczęta natomiast wolą gimnastykę i lekkoatletykę. Ulubione zajęcia na lekcjach wychowania fizycznego według uczniów klas III szkoły podstawowej to gry zespołowe: zbijak, dwa ognie, piłka nożna i piłka ręczna oraz wyścigi rzędów.
The purpose was to define the area of sports interests of children attending the third year of primary school. The main research problem is the question: What is the area of sports interests among the children attending the third year of primary school? The thesis includes the method of diagnostic survey. The questionnaire was used. A group of 131 children were involved in this research. Boys are more often interested in sports disciplines connected with a ball: football, handball, basketball, volleyball. Girls, on the other hand, prefer gymnastics and athletics. Favourite activities of children attending the third year primary school during physical education classes are team games like: dodgeball, football, handball and “row racing”.

Opis:
The article presents the history of the Bible Work of St. John Paul II in the Diocese of Rzeszów in the years 2006-2017. The first part refers to the origins of the association and its expectations from the Bishop of the Diocese, the Diocesan Curia and the Moderator. The Bible Work of St. John Paul II in the Diocese of Rzeszów was publicly inaugurated on 21 October 2006 during the Priestly Day of Holiness. The second part elaborates on the achievements of the described institution. Among them it should be listed: the establishment and running of the Bible Study of the Diocese of Rzeszów, the publication of the "Bible Bulletin", the organization of Bible competitions for primary school children, the organization of symposia and conferences, the organization of the Bible Week, cooperation with the University of the Third Age of the Diocese of Rzeszów. The last part of the article presents the personal status of the Biblical Work, which has permanently joined pastoral activities of the Diocese of Rzeszów.
